youtube-dot-com off hand Disney coming and back at you with another veiny Disney video again everybody there are many many different reasons why I love Disneyland and one of those reasons is how unique and how many little tiny touches Disneyland has that Walt Disney World and other Disney parks around the world just don't have today I figured we could just take a step back and everyone could relax and we could talk about all the little weird quirks Disneyland has that other parks all over the world just don't seem to have weird funny and sometimes dare I say even charming little touches that Disneyland has what exactly do I mean when I talk about all these little weird touches Disneyland has well stay tuned because today we are going to be talking about the weird quirks of Disneyland now when Disneyland construction began in the mid 50s I think it's safe to assume that building codes were a little different back then I'm not saying that this entire video revolves around building codes but these building codes sometimes play into the weird quirks that I'm talking about the Alice in Wonderland Fantasyland dark ride being the only dark ride that consists of two stories is definitely affected you see the ride was temporarily closed on July 15th of 2010 after California's department of occupational safety and health pointed out to Disney that it lacked handrails on the second floor and if the ride ever needed to be evacuated guests might trip up and fall off the second story which would not be great for publicity so now on guests left-hand side as they exit the Queen of Hearts Castle scene there's a very cleverly disguised handrail to keep the Disney lawyers happy and yeah I guess to keep the Disney visitors safe the handrail has got some leaves on it it's cleverly disguised as some vines and I think it's really funny because it's something you would only see ever at Disneyland and it's not just because the Alice in Wonderland ride is only at Disneyland another cute little quirk I think Disneyland has not by choice of course is how small everything is now it's common knowledge that Disneyland does not have as much room as Walt Disney World and we've talked about sight lines before so I'm not going to rehash the awesome Tiki Room jolly holiday fusion that happens but another year to Disneyland quark has to do with sight lines found in New Orleans square I learned this on my most recent trip to Disneyland and it surprised me because I'd never noticed it before you see Walt Disney knew about sight lines and when they were constructing New Orleans Square Walt knew that there was no snow ever in New Orleans no snow in New Orleans well that's not a problem it never snows in Southern California unless you're looking at the Matterhorn the snow-capped peaks of the Matterhorn bobsleds ruined the illusion that you were in New Orleans because there's no snowy mountains in the sight lines of New Orleans so what did Walt do to fix this problem of a giant snowy mountain smack-dab in the middle of New Orleans he planted a gigantic tree in the shape of the Matterhorn it's really meant to obscure the guests view of the Matterhorn next time you're in New Orleans square take a look in the general direction of the Matterhorn and you'll just see a giant pine tree or whatever kind of tree that is I'm no dendrology another fun and quirky use of these sight lines having to do specifically with the Matterhorn takes place on the storybook land canal boats in fantasy land while riding past the miniature scene of Pinocchio's village look at the mountains in the background and how they perfectly line up with the Matterhorn these supposedly tiny mountains in the background of this miniature scene are supposed to be the Swiss Alps with the Matterhorn towering above them in the background they're the same color scheme and a very similar shape and design to the Matterhorn so I just think this is a really fun way to build the scene and not break the sight lines but everybody we are here to talk about the weird quirks you can only find at Disneyland and when I think weird things about Disneyland I immediately think of the half red half white bulb at the Koch corner the urban legend goes that one day Walt Disney was strolling down Main Street USA when he saw two white light bulbs next to each other at the Koch corner or the refreshment corner if that's what you want to call it and this completely broke the pattern of the red and white bulbs that lined the refreshment corner so Walt Disney himself called a painter over and had them paint half of the bull red to correct the pattern and since then instead of having to paint the bulb red every time they did a refurbishment or it burned out Disney specially ordered a half red half white bulb for the coke corner to keep the pattern consistent now if that's not something you will only ever find at Disneyland watch I don't know what is now oK we've talked about sight lines we've talked about light bulbs but what about bathrooms I know you guys are all clamoring to hear about the weird bathrooms at Disneyland and there are a few strange bathrooms at Disneyland both in location and in theming let's talk first about the well-hidden tiki room bathroom and for anyone wondering I'm just I'm lying this bathroom does not exist don't worry about it let's keep it a secret everyone directly to the left of the entrance to the main Tiki Room show building is the secret restroom it used to be a very well-guarded secret and not a whole lot of people knew about it but more and more people know about it every single day but it's a good place to go if you need to escape the crowds and just be by yourself for a little while and do your business now I've talked about the Tiki Room restroom before but I haven't talked about the Indiana Jones restroom since the wait times for Indiana Jones are always so so very long Disney decided that it would be in their best interest to put a restroom in the queue for Indiana Jones this secret restroom is located behind the elevator near the loading zone but if you think you can just stop in and take a break whenever you need while you're waiting in line you have to ask a cast member to open the door for you so you can't exactly camp out in there but it's still a really cool hidden room also just a real quick off hand disney pro tip that has nothing to do with the video the best restrooms on Disneyland property are easily the restrooms next to the Mandara Spa at the Grand Californian just walk into them and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about and the last quirk that Disneyland Park has that none of the other Disney parks around the entire world can lay claim to are the kitty cats now this is a very well known fact but it's something that's unique to Disneyland so I felt like I absolutely had to include it in the video originally stray cats and house cats from all over Anaheim California came to Disneyland to get a little bit of free food and why would you ever want to leave the happiest place on earth especially if you get free food all the time from those dumb humans so these cats took up residence in Sleeping Beauty Castle for about the next two years until the sleeping castle walkthrough open the cats were kicked out and were left free to roam the parks at their own leisure I'm fairly certain they moved back in once the walkthrough was closed for about seven years in 2001 and now that the walkthrough is opened again I'm pretty sure they had to leave but now they are free to roam the entirety of the Disneyland Resort not just Disney Land Park but also Disney California Adventure and the hotel properties Disney allows them to stay because they help keep the bug and um Mouse populations under control I've seen multiple Disneyland cats but I've actually had an experience one-on-one with a Disneyland cat at the Tangaroa Terrace at the Disneyland Hotel I was sitting there minding my own business eating my french toast when a cat walked along and just stared at me for a long long time and not at a distance mind you he was about a foot away from me now I'm deathly allergic to cats so I didn't go near him but I looked at him and we both looked at each other for a long time and there's a mutual respect there and eventually he left and I was left wondering where he was going and what his goals were so Tangaroa Terrace cat if you're out there if you're watching this video it was nice meeting you and those are some weird quirks you can find at Disneyland are there any that I missed what are your favorite little tiny personal touches that you can find at Disneyland that aren't found anywhere else in the world I'd love to hear from you guys down in the comments and remember you have to look really really close at things when you're at Disneyland or else you'll miss the awesome tiny Swiss Alps
