what is that sound high in the air murmur of maternal lamentations what is that city over the mountains cracks and reforms and bursts in the violet air for me it's like an offering it's a response to the pandemic it's it's like a ritual and we're all going to be together in the parking lot we're all going to be safe but it's like a gift to our community it seemed like a perfect time to rethink the piece in its totality um elliott was responding to a pandemic in world war one and was clearly very depressed about what was going on in the world and it was at a moment of rethinking culture and regenerating culture and regenerating a sense of self and i think that's what a lot of people are going through right now uh well when the pandemic hit my first thought was we have to pivot to online and then the second thought was what's what's theater in a pandemic what does that look like what are how do the limitations become creative uh what are the new forms that might be possible and so i think that's how we landed at a drive-in theater april is the cruelest month breeding lilacs out of the dead land mixing memory and desire acting the piece is basically i would equate it to getting on a wild horse and trusting that you're not going to fall off so it's an epic poem there are many characters it's a major experiment but like i always say i i am attracted to the impossible [Music] do you
