video game designer best known for co-developing many popular valve games in 1996 he started working with others on a quake world mod called quake team fortress after the success of quake team fortress he was hired by valve and began work on co-developing team fortress classic and team fortress 2. he has also co-developed many other games such as half-life alex mk complete edition this game is an expanded version of mortal kombat a soft reboot to the mortal kombat franchise it was released in 2012 for consoles and on pc in 2013. in early 2021 it was removed from steam following changes in warner brothers games network tuesday this refers to how every tuesday at 7 p.m eastern standard time steam will undergo routine maintenance it usually lasts around 5 to 10 minutes not too much to say on this moving on nine years i believe this either refers to the nine years bad john steen awarded to players who have had a steam account for nine years it could also refer to the nine years of service group which is a group full of people with the nine years of service badge steam workshop the steam workshop is a hub of player created content and tools to publish organize and download that content into your games different games will utilize the workshop in different ways such as in left 4 dead 2 the workshop mods can change the player models weapons and utilities community bands the steam community ban is a ban which restricts access to the steam community features for breaking the rules and guidelines or as a result of a lock placed on your account a steam community ban is generally issued by a community moderator or steam support staff member some only last 15 days but some are permanent steam forums the steam forums were steam's official forum page hosted by val the forums held the official discussion boards for many games such as tf2 half-life and portal the forums were replaced by steam discussions the steam forums aren't gone forever however as they are simply hidden from the public only moderators and admins can view the old forums back valve anti-cheat or vac is an automated system designed to detect cheats installed on users computers if a user connects to a vac secured server from a computer with identifiable cheats installed the vac system will ban the user from playing that game on vac secured servers in the future off topic this refers to off topic a discussion board in steam discussions where users can discuss off-topic subjects such as oh i don't know favorite ice cream flavor anime games so uh there are an abundance of anime and hentai games on steam some are normal such as final fantasy and the others they're pretty disturbing the cake is a lie the cake is a lie is a catchphrase popularized by the game portal and is often used to convey the message that a promised gift is being used to motivate without any intent of delivering the phrase which is seen written on the walls by an old lab work named doug ratzman soon became a pretty big meme on the internet mike harrington mike harrington is the co-founder of valve and a former microsoft employee he along with gabe newell created the small company in 1996 and released their debut game half-life in 1998 which became an immense success in 2000 he left valve and dissolved his friendship with newell to spend more time with his wife naming and shaming naming and shaming is when you post someone's profile url or id on a forum or any public board slash area not many people know that naming and shaming is a violation to steam's rules most of the time people will post the steam id of someone and request the readers to mass report the said profile for hacking or cheating the meaning of steam i think the meaning of steam refers to why steam was created steam was developed in 2002 when valve needed a platform where they can easily update their multiplayer games but it soon expanded into the largest digital distribution platform for pc gaming steam deck the steam deck is an upcoming handheld gaming computer developed by valve and is basically a steam version of a nintendo switch like the switch it can be docked and connected to a tv it is set to release questions seems happy to respond people have said he hasn't responded but others state he has indeed responded to them there is a page where you can email him but i haven't gotten a response yet [Music] burning flames team captain the unusual burning flames team captain is one of the most valuable and rarest items in team fortress 2. it has even surpassed the golden frying pan and rarity and the cosmetic became a meme in the tf2 community the current price for one is around 8 000 keys or roughly 18 500 us dollars old boy counter strike scene so after searching for a while i managed to find what this was talking about old boy is a 2003 south korean neo-noir action thriller film one of the scenes is inside a internet cafe and inside the cafe we can hear people playing counter-strike so there's that nail gun the nail gun is the cut weapon from team fortress 2. it was going to be used by the scout and would act similarly to medics syringe gun in the early trailers for team fortress 2 the scout can be seen with the weapon land the locator lambda locator is an achievement in half-life in order to get the achieve you need to find all 45 lambda logos in the game it is a pretty difficult achievement to obtain but it is possible make a tf2 wish and get it this refers to a steam guide titled make a tf2 wish and have it come true the whole gist of this kind is to wish for any tf2 item and once you have received the item you shall help another user with getting their item it's a pretty interesting guy your steam account dies when you die this would be very bad for people who have spent [ __ ] thousands of dollars on steam black mesa black mesa can refer to two things one is the black mesa research facility a scientific research complex built around an abandoned cold war icbm launched silo in the new mexico desert in the united states the site was the location of the black mesa incident the result of a resonance cascade which would have catastrophic ramifications upon the planet for years to come the facility was destroyed by the mark iv thermonuclear device some day after the cascade the other is a game called black mesa which is a modern remake of half-life day of defeat day of defeat is a team-based world war ii first-person shooter of the european theater of world war ii the game takes place around 1944 and players can play as the axis powers or the allies the goal of the game is to complete various mission objectives varying from capturing flags scattered across the map to the destruction of key objective installations face its sketchy terms of services this refers to faces interesting terms of service such as governing law and disputes having to include your phone number credit card information facets anti-cheat is also pretty sketchy too january 2nd 1994 the only thing i can find on this is that on blender's official steam store page it says the release date is january 2nd 1994. blender's birthday is considered to be january 2nd 1994 so that's why it says that date default avatars the steam default avatars are the built-in avatars that you can use in the steam profile editor these avatars are usually just images of characters from certain games that the user owns the tf2 ones are the best ones and there is no debate in that portal equals half-life 2. i think this is a theory about how portal is half-life 2. it is confirmed that the portal universe is in the same universe with the half-life series so maybe that has something to do with it i don't really know team fortress 2 the greatest steam game of all time i mean team fortress 2 is an online multiplayer first person shooter game the player can play as nine different classes which all have different play styles and abilities as of now the game is currently undergoing a bot crisis yet is one of the most popular valve games source 2 source 2 is a video game engine developed by valve as the successor to the original source engine the engine was announced in 2015 with the first game to use it dota 2 being ported from the original engine that same year since then val's artifact dota underlords and half-life alex have all been made with the engine accidental reports this refers to how users might accidentally report someone there is a scan going on out there in which a friend of yours would message you saying they accidentally reported you this scam actually happened to me and i lost maya for around a week ripoff games this refers to games that copy or rip off from other games an example would be pretend which is a ripoff of [Applause] reproduction simulation an increase in authority and status over others or out of genuine sympathy and identification with the combines aims jurassic island the dinosaur zoo this game is clearly a ripoff of jurassic park and it received horrible reviews with mostly negative reviews it is regarded as one of the worst steam games of all time unreleased ji weapons i don't know what j.i means so that steam and valve have made these include the meet the team videos and the [ __ ] masterpiece that is man vs machine the other could refer to steam and valve showing interest in making a movie around half-life portal or even tf2 hopefully that does happen in the future g-man equals zen this is a theory that the g-man one of the main antagonist of the half-life series is zen the border world dimension of the half-life franchise used to travel through dimensions so is g-man the actual dimension or is he like governor or president of zen i don't [ __ ] know accc vs valve corporation the australian competition and consumer commission or accc announced it was taking action against valve in 2014. on march 29 2016 valve was found guilty of breaching australian consumer law because valve claimed consumers were not entitled to a refund for digitally downloaded games purchased from valve via the steam website or steam client in any circumstances valve had excluded statutory guarantees and or warranties that goods would be of acceptable quality and valve had restricted or modified statutory guarantees and or warranties of acceptable quality during the prosecution of this case valve implemented a refund policy for steam purchases but the case still reviewed valve's actions prior to the onset of the lawsuit the court overseeing the case sided with the accc in assigning a 3 million australian dollars about 2.1 million us dollar fine against valve in december 2016 as well as requiring valve to inform australian consumers of their rights when purchasing games from steam in january 2018 valve filed for a special leave of the court's decision appealing to the high court of australia the high court dismissed this claim in april 2018 asserting that valve still was liable under australian law since it sold products directly to its citizens prospero prospero was one of valve's first game designs slated to come out shortly after half-life the game was to emphasize exploration an intricate storyline and combat by using psionic powers influences would have included the video game missed and the works of jorge luis borges as the design of quiver the original code name for half-life started to take over some of prospero's initial goals prospero evolved into a massively multiplayer game which was also intended to be distributed with a mix of official and user-created players providing dynamic fast-paced zombie fragging with both objective and survival-based missions as a team of special military operatives utilized in the range of powerful weapons and equipment players are tasked with curing infected areas of a post-apocalyptic world by planting controlled explosives before pulling a short sharp exit for what it's worth codenamed cure is a pretty good zombie game dead vans i couldn't find anything on dead vans but the one thing i did find was a van mod for left 4 dead 2 so that's something left 4 dead 1 and 2 early videos this refers to the many early videos made for the left for dead franchise for the first one there is the four minute long opening cut scene displaying francis and zoe in a sort of romantic tension between each other and louise would be a kind of comedic relief character these character personalities were never used a game due to poor reception there are also the numerous teachers and trailers for both games the gnome of healing this entry refers to noam chomsky a garden gnome and improvised weapon exclusive to the dark carnival campaign in left 4 dead 2 players who score over 750 in a shooting gallery game are awarded the known and must take the gnome all the way back to the rescue vehicle in the concert campaign to earn the garden gnome achievement super bernie world super bernie world is up there with tf2 in terms of greatest steam games it is a political retro game rendered in classic nest style and colors and has the player controlling us senator bernie sanders as he travels the u.s and free the usa from the clutches of four republicans in their castle lairs it's obviously made to promote bernie sanders campaign for president team fortress team fortress is the name of the official team fortress 2 youtube channel the channel includes the meet the team videos update promos something we haven't seen in for [ __ ] years in fun showcases the channel has been dead for three years lost references in half-life 2. this refers to the hit show lost being referenced in half-life 2. there is a dharma-like logo with three white trees hidden on a wall this is referring to the white forest station where the player is headed there is a crt monitor displaying the numbers a recurring string of numbers featured and lost in a blocked hidden room in the second level poker night at the inventory poker night at the inventory is a poker video game developed by telltale games it features four characters from different franchises tycho rocky from the penny arcade webcomic max from the sam and max franchise the red heavy from team fortress 2 and strong back from the home star runner web series unfortunately the game was delisted from steam in may 2019 since the game had unlockable content for other games this meant those unlockables couldn't be obtained anymore the more wanted unlockables are from tf2 and some are the iron curtain luger and enthusiasts timepiece playground screens [Music] what you just heard was playgroundmemory.wave a creepy sound file from half-life 2. it is used when the player approaches an abandoned playground meaning the combine got rid of the children and in the half-life 2 beta there's even child labor involved but we'll get to that later number three games this is a joke amongst the valve community about how they will just never make a number three game for example portal portal 2 no portal 3 team fortress classic team fortress 2 no tf3 half-life half-life 2 no half-life 3 and no half-life alex is not half-life 3 if you want a half-life 3 then read mark laidlaw's epistle 3 blog half-life hostile takeover half-life hostile takeover is a cancelled expansion pack for half-life and intended for release in august 2000. it was first announced in march that year though rumors of its existence had persisted since the previous year unlike the three expansions created by gearbox software it did not return to black mesa research facility and instead took place at allied processing a related support facility and followed a character described as a junior g-man as he defended the facility against government agents presumably the hecu the game was allegedly 60 complete and around 90 days from shipping when it was cancelled half-life in lost this is an easter egg in the previously mentioned tv show lost the characters yusuf and haddad can be seen playing the 2001 playstation 2 version of half-life remember that crt computer in half-life 2 that displayed the numbers well if you switch it on you can see a comment from the devs of the game it says the producers at valve promised the directors from lost to put it there after there had been references to half-life and lost pretty cool [Music] raps cuddle rabbs cuddle is the name of gabe newell's official steam profile no one really knows what rav scuttle means one person you slash strange new rash suggested it could be a reference to the horrific kids book and movie watership down as one of the characters is named rab's cuddle you also can't friend the account as its friends list is full ea tried to purchase valve this is indeed true around 2012 ea sought to buy out valve for a staggering 1 billion dollars ea in case you don't already know or forgot is the worst company in america thankfully the talks did not progress far and valve wasn't bought out despite the billion-dollar offer newell said valve would prefer to disintegrate the never sell out drunken fool drunken fool is a steam account but the twist with this account is that the account is run by an actual valve employee drunken full was banned because of the golden wrench a super rare item in team fortress 2. the wrenches were these super rare items that randomly dropped over the period of about a week something leaked from val and it turned out the drops weren't random they dropped at set times and the person who crafted something closest to that time got a golden wrench drunken fool went on a server and did a countdown in voice chat to the time the wrench was supposed to drop they all crafted at that exact moment and one of them got a golden wrench within a few days drunken fool and the guy who actually got the wrench were vac banned this caused a massive amount of controversy since vac bans are only issued for people who use external programs to cheat drunken full was not using an external program just leaked data some other wrench holders even deleted their golden wrenches in protest drunken full was then unbanned but the other wrench holders were not drunken also created the tf2 idle program which allowed players to earn items without even launching tf2 and also indirectly caused the halo cost the fallout created when valve released the cheaterslim and halo he was also the creator of tf2items.com and one of the 100 owners of the golden wrench until it was stripped from him as part of his permanent back ban from steam gunslinger pro 2009 gunslinger pro 2009 is a gary's mod arg channel centered around a channel titled gunslinger pro 2009 who makes gary's modern machinimo videos around the late 2000s to early 2010s the videos on their surface appear to be little more than the typical videos one might expect to be produced by a gary's mod channel such as short surreal humor team fortress 2 videos and tutorials but it quickly becomes clear that something much more horrific is happening the ragdolls gunslinger uses for his videos are alive and the evident one being the blue spy who attempts to escape from gunslinger multiple times before something very horrific happens to him i won't reveal what happens next because i highly recommend you check out the channel if you haven't already steam skins steam skins are an in-game feature that allows players to be able to change things that are in the steam client some of which include fonts color schemes and user interfaces pretty neat gordon freeman in the mad max game this is an easter egg found in mad max a 2015 action adventure game in one of the areas of the game you can find a gratuitously placed crate in and among a number of boxes and marked with a fairly obvious three there's also the charred remains of the spectacled man and a severed arm holding tightly onto a crowbar this is a nod to gordon freeman bad water videos 2009 this channel is another gary's mod arg channel very similar to gunslinger pro 2009's channel bad water videos videos consist of machinimas involving the character melanin a superhero who usually has to save a red engineer from his arch nemesis the key the near a blue engineer whose face is entirely a mouth the teethener works with dr metalhead a medic with some kind of a metal ball with a red eye it's shown that the ragdolls are alive and that they've been mutilated in order to create the characters the arg follows a red scout as he tries to escape the player both channels are very interesting and i may make a video on them soon ascend free roaming vr experience the ascent is a free-roaming highly immersive virtual reality experience harnessing the power of under floor base shakers haptic suits smart plugs and gun stocks with additional hardware the ascent brings you and your team right into the game with tailored special effects feel the ground beneath your feet shake when enemies approach feel the grasp of your enemy with tailored haptic body feedback feel the air rush over your head with smart plug climate control the experience is a very cool yet very costly game as the game costs a staggering 1000 to purchase this is a twitch emote featuring an image of spanish comedian and actor juan joy borja better known as the spanish laughing guy in late summer 2019 the custom emote gained popularity on the streaming platform as a way to convey laughter unfortunately juan passed away in april 2021 rest in peace scram shrek 5 scram was a free-to-play shooter game with elements of dlc around may of 2021 the game's title was changed to shrek 5. what the heck here's another shred the developers ripped out the actual game and replaced it with a video of shrek the users noticed their items that they had spent money on were gone the developer was then terminated from steam shrek 5 can no longer be bought weapon icons are fonts in half-life 2 and gary's mod the weapon icons seen in the head are actually fonts and can be found in the game files [Music] this is true in an interview from 2012 gabe newell publicly stated that he does like to show my little pony friendship is magic and says that he is a brony but is there anything you secretly geek out about uh i watch my little pony you're a brony yep oh my god now gabe could have been pulling a prank or was being serious but this was nine years ago so he's likely over it and
