The TRUTH About the U.S. Landcruiser's Return

Toyota's bringing back the Land Cruiser to the U.S market not so fast no they're not at all today we're going to talk about the new watered-down Land Cruiser coming to the U.S market now let's get straight to it and talk about what they deleted what Toyota deleted from the Land Cruiser coming to the U.S market the Land Cruiser but before we can understand that we have to quickly realize why Toyota removed the Land Cruiser 200 from the U.S market a few years back and that's simple it just wasn't selling so why did Toyota decide to bring it back people said I want the Land Cruiser in the United States but they weren't buying the Land Cruiser when it was here because it was too much money and they didn't understand the off-road features so what changed did Toyota change or did the American Market change the short answer and the point of today's video is the American Market didn't change Toyota changed and what I mean by Toyota changed is they took off a lot of stuff from this Land Cruiser Coming to America so let's jump right into it right off the bat they cut kdss on the new Land Cruiser in half they have they cut the sway bar disconnect system on the Land Cruiser in half so in the World Market you get the Land Cruiser 300 which has ekdss which is a front and rear sway bar disconnect the system has been out in its older form the kdss system for years it's on this Lexus GX 460. it disconnects the front and rear sway bar it's also on the Toyota 4Runner off-road package it disconnects the front and rear sway bar also on the older Land Cruiser 200 it disconnects the front and rear sway bar the new Land Cruiser 250 coming to the U.S gets only the front sway bar disconnect in other words they took the kdss system and halved it it's ekdss but only on the front axle they omitted it on the rear again overseas you can disconnect both front and rear but in order to make the new Land Cruiser more affordable to Americans they had to remove the ability to disconnect the rear sway bar now Toyota is carefully covering up for this with some marketing Magic by calling the system a front sway bar disconnect which is just a marketing gimmick for people who don't know go wow you can disconnect the front sway bar on this new Land Cruiser you can always disconnect automatically the front and rear on these gx460s on your Toyota 4Runner off-road Edition and your Land Cruiser 200. now with this new Land Cruiser we can only disconnect the front not the rear cost savings by Toyota sneaky how Toyota markets the front sway bar disconnect as you getting something when in reality you're getting something taken away now the next thing is 2 Toyota had to cram a hybrid system in the back you cram the battery in the back seat to where the point is they had to get rid of they had to delete the back seat to fit the battery so if you look inside the new Land Cruiser 250 you're going to see this big giant awkward hump because they had to jam the battery pack back there and in doing so they raised the floor level so much that they had to get rid of the back seat completely so Land Cruiser has traditionally seeded seven okay way back when short it's seated five but in modern times it has seated at least seven that's how it's been so a core Land Cruiser feature is to go anywhere with everybody now you can go anywhere with almost everybody because they had to delete the third row it's cost savings now deleting the rear seat is a little bit subjective but it is an SUV sport utility vehicle and you're removing that utility part by deleting that third row all right the next thing is the front Locker the Land Cruiser 300 has a front Locker Center locker and rear Locker now this is in addition to track a track and MTS Etc but they omitted the front locker from the Land Cruiser 300 in the world market uh that is available in the gr sport spec this vehicle could have had a front locker but they decided to just omit it again cost savings now you could make the argument that deleting the front lockers no big deal a track will do the same thing but do note that the front Locker is not there lastly is the again the engine so the engine should be the twin turbo V6 instead you get this hybrid setup it makes the car more affordable to most buyers and that was Toyota's goal here which is we can bring the Land Cruiser back to the us but we got to make it affordable because no matter how how many times Americans say we want the Land Cruisers they refuse to pay for it now let's play devil's advocate for a second and talk about you know is this good or bad what does this mean well from a marketing perspective it probably is a good thing because most people have no clue what I'm talking about all they saw with the Land Cruiser press release in the US was the Land Cruisers back in the USA yay without realizing just how much stuff was deleted from it nor what that stuff means so Toyota is counting that most people who want the Land Cruiser are not actually going to do what the maker or the inventor of Land Cruiser wanted was people take it off-road so they're counting on most U.S buyers getting the Land Cruiser just to say they have a Land Cruiser and not actually off-roading if you did actually off-road Your Land Cruiser you would immediately realize just how many important Land Cruiser features are missing so now for the good news there is a real Land Cruiser here in America well coming soon it's the gx550 that is literally the World Market Land Cruiser the quote real Land Cruiser you're going to get the same frame the same wheelbase but you're going to get that twin turbo V6 you're going to get the rear Locker the center Locker you're not going to get the front locker but you're going to get the full front and rear ekdss system the full system you're not going to get a third row seat but you're gonna you're gonna get luxury on top of it so it's the closest thing to the real Land Cruiser the gx550 okay remember this is all for fun Toyota is awesome it's going to be a hit either way a lot of these little changes or differences are subjective but in off-roading every centimeter matters and traditionally the Toyota Land Cruiser has had it all as far as off-road features a lot of those features key features are missing from this American spec version we could argue day and night about the engine should it
