of giving we're gonna welcome up david chan with a great message for us today and thank you welcome to church everybody thanks scott and heather what's up c3nyc happy sunday we're so glad you're here with us today my name is david if you're not mad and so excited to be encouraging us in a time of giving giving is something that we get to do each week as a church there are a couple of ways that you can give either by downloading the push bay app or by clicking the link if you're tuning with us online or by scanning the qr code on the card on the seat in front of you well before we before we dive into giving would love to encourage everyone from the book of 2nd corinthians 4 18. it says so we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal you know of all the five senses you know seeing is often or sight is often the sense that we that influences us the most right you notice that like what we see often influences us the most and it can apply to a lot of different things but specifically in the area of managing our finances or spending we often spend on what we can see oh i want to buy this thing because it looks nice or it makes us look nice right but oftentimes when it comes to giving we sometimes struggle with giving because we often look and see oh maybe the giving that i'm giving doesn't necessarily benefit me immediately right so we look at what is seen but today the lord is encouraging us from this verse in 2nd corinthians 4 18 to not look at what is seen but to look at what is unseen because as we build god's kingdom as we build the church in new york city paris and berlin as we sow as we build his house there is bigger it's better it's more eternal and it's more lasting than whatever we can be buying and spending in our daily lives today so as we give as we prepare to give maybe ask ourselves lord in my area of giving and managing my finances am i putting it in things that are seen or things that are unseen let's bow our heads and pray heavenly father we come before you in jesus name we fix our eyes on things unseen and today as we give to you honoring you in obedience we want to put in things that are eternal not temporary but things that have a lasting impact as we build your church as we build your kingdom in new york city paris and berlin in jesus name amen amen and a man well so excited we're starting off our new series better now so excited to hear from our pastor phil moore kicking off the series but before that we're gonna tune our eyes to the screen to hear a story of what god's been doing in someone in our community how they've been impacted by the love of jesus let's tune our eyes to the screen and hear carol's story i grew up in mexico and i studied in a catholic school we studied in texas i would cross every day the border i thought of god as a like a ruler and if i would be a good person that he would also be like good to me but if i didn't obey him or something like i kind of felt like he would punish me so in 2019 i was just out of a very difficult relationship i was depressed my heart wasn't in a good place and i felt distant in that moment like from god because of all of like who i thought he was and my perception of him i had decided that i needed to hold on to something during that like very difficult moment in my life i felt like i really touched like rock bottom during that time i i was friends with austin he actually sent me a youtube video of pastor georgie uh preaching and i just loved it like the word she spoke that day really touched my heart so he invited me to attend like an online um sunday like sermon which i did i remember that when i got connected like everyone was writing in the chat i'm usually like a shy person but i was like yeah well why not and i was like hey i'm carol from mexico and everyone was like so welcoming geraldine sent me a personal message to who like welcomed me to c3 church and to pray for me i always had trouble with um [Music] like knowing who i was so once i got to know jesus and know that my identity uh is in him that he is the one who actually defines me and i am his daughter during my dinner uh party i remember that last year sam one of our like friends was sharing her experience when she got baptized into three and i just got like it touched me it touched my heart and i just loved um her sharing that moment that was obviously like super important to her so that's that was the first time i actually felt that i wanted to like i want to get baptized crystal told me a few months ago that they were planning on like on some dates for baptism i got excited but not too excited because i know like new york city is quite far from monterey obviously the first thing i did was like just check um airplane tickets and things like that i prayed a lot and some of my friends from monterey they asked me that like why are you going all the way to new york city to get baptized you can get baptized here i just i just feel that i couldn't like get baptized in any other church but my church and my church is c3 nyc so i wanted to share that moment with my family with my community and that's why i'm here so i would say that if you're afraid of taking that step or if there's so many doubts that you're not sure of where even to start god's there and he really like he it doesn't matter which way do you start or if it's just a little tiny step you take he's waiting for you with open arms so i'm better now because jesus is my best friend and i get to share every part of my day with him and i'm just the happiest because he lives inside of my heart come on hey come on can we thank jesus for carol's story what how good is that and can we thank elsie as well to know elsie is to love elsie but such a cool story i mean uh carol if you're watching um from mexico today we want to say we love you we honor you you're amazing and um i just love jesus he's just so good like he changes people's lives you know uh and that's why we're here today uh if he didn't i might as well pack up and go home because this is just a ted talk and it has no spiritual power or value uh for your life but if it's not a ted talk and jesus is alive and he is moving uh then something significant can happen in this moment uh and i love i'm gonna introduce myself in a minute because you're like who's this guy talking to me i'll get there tough crowd but i love oh hi ava thanks for our tattoos we love them don't we love them anyway um no i love i love uh just the worship today uh that second song um there's something powerful when you declare truth that jesus is uh there's only one name there's only one way that we can be saved and it reminds you of uh just how radical this good news in this gospel is i want to encourage you to even in your home and uh when you're uh and just put worship on in your apartment put worship on in your commute uh because we need god awareness we need because here's the thing uh there's only one way for our soul to be saved but there's so many other good news and gospels that's trying to tell us there's other ways to be saved so that's why we lose our confidence so we need to sing songs like that in your devotional time because it'll help you in jesus name amen cool you guys with me cool hi guys up there you're well awesome so good to be in church uh should i smile more okay my name is fillmore um uh me and my amazing smart wife um get to be a part of the team here uh pastor joshua georgie are the lead pastors of c3 nyc across paris berlin right here in new york um and if you would have saw the artwork for better now zev kelsey is the culprit of that which is uh our pastor's uh son so how many know van gogh and god and unknown zelf okay in jesus name uh and today we're in a new series called better now so i'm gonna say better now come on it's not just a song that we're singing because it's good and i love the video no it's a it's a theological reality for everyone uh that is in christ that we are better now uh and effectively that's why the the book of romans is written uh the apostle paul who got saved radically uh was set apart to be an apostle to the gentiles uh and he finds himself writing a letter to a church that he had never been to but he said he longed to to kind of see them so today what i'm going to kind of do is just kind of give you an introductory to one of the reasons why paul is writing this and one of the reasons why we wanted to do this series um and then next week janelle is going to preach and it's going to be amazing and if you don't like me you should come next week because you like her uh and uh but just a bit of context about the book of romans we're gonna spend about eight weeks is that right amy eight weeks okay eight weeks going through the book of romans you should read it we got a like a bible plan and a website and all the things that will be launching tomorrow for you to see to study along so we just really want to help you but a bit of context about the book of romans is written by paul about 80 57 so uh for about the first two decades of the church it was predominantly a jewish church in rome because in acts chapter 2 when ryan preached the first series of churches we saw that the holy spirit fell upon a room and it says in acts chapter 2 verse 10 that visitors from rome were there in jerusalem at the time so boom they get they insane they've like sensed god's spirit they're like oh my goodness this is amazing they go back to rome and they start to start to plant churches and god started moving uh and i'm not sure if their worship team was as good as ours but that's debatable you know uh and what happened though in 1849 i believe uh the emperor of rome effectively kicked all of the jewish people out of rome so if you were jewish you were kicked out of rome and all the jewish christians were just eliminated and then when he died in 80 54 they all came back now by the time they get back to rome all the jewish people uh the church was full of non-jewish people gentiles the gentiles all the positions of leadership the pastors the leaders uh so you can imagine that's pretty awkward right particularly because jewish church had jewish customs and i could imagine you know like them coming back like yo what's this song we're singing i was used to father abraham had many sons and y'all are like singing some like you know this is a rock band what's going on here um but but what happened was there was like this contention because they're like yo like you know y'all are doing it wrong like we are the real christians you know like we are the real believers like the jewish people like you know we come from abraham we got the law we got the torah and then like the gentiles are like nah fam like the reason that we got the gospel is because y'all were disobedient and y'all don't know what y'all are doing so there's like this you know there's like this east coast west coast war going on you know i'm saying and uh that's what's happening in this church and paul is writing to them trying to honestly he's trying to like you know that line in the song says having you is the best part of me and the better now so that's what jesus that's what paul is trying to convince the roman church of because what they're thinking is like the jewish people like you know what the best part of me is like the fact that i'm jewish and the fact that like i got the law i got to like think the fact that you know i come from abraham and like you know like we do the sabbath and we don't eat pork you know so like that's why we are the best and the gentiles are like no bro like we're free you all are doing all that weird stuff like we're the best and and paul is like no jesus is actually the best thing about this church and all of y'all fussing and all y'all fighting y'all don't know what y'all talking about because all have sinned and all have fallen short of the glory of god so have you heard that verse before oh so that's why he's writing that because they essentially think that they're better than the other so there's all these like cultural worlds going on so that's like the context here so uh romans chapter 5 uh it picks up here in verse 12 says therefore just as sin entered the world through one man and death through sin and this way death came to all people because all sinned so um i'm just keep reading to be sure sin was in the world before the law was given but sin is not charged against anyone's account where there is no law so uh when adam sinned there was no like you guys know the ten commandments so the ten commandments didn't come to moses and that was like some years i'm not sure it was a few hundreds of years before that came but what what the writers what paul is saying he's like listen sin came through adam and it wasn't necessarily because of the law it was because people are sinners and they do stupid things that's essentially what he's trying to say like it's kind of rude but nevertheless death reigned from the time of adam to the time of moses even over those who did not sin breaking can command as did adam who is the pattern of the one to come which is jesus we'll talk about that a minute so um three kind of ways i want to kind of categorize this today and the reason i'm sitting down is not because i'm trying to be you know studious or anything but i hurt my foot on my my calf playing basketball yesterday i blame it on lucas he invited me so you know lucas blame it on him but three categories i want to kind of break this up is our our ruin our rescue and our reign so why are we better now so so i want to kind of effectively communicate and here's what it's going to do it may hurt you but it's going to heal you and it may humble you but what i believe by the end of this you're going to have a hope that is so secure in jesus that when you lay your head down at night you're going to be like man i'm so thankful that jesus met me i'm so thankful that jesus found me you know what i mean so that's what i want to kind of communicate okay so the first question i want to ask is who is adam like who is he you know uh some people believe that adam is like this mythological creature and that the book of genesis is just like an allegory and it's not necessarily literal no paul thinks that adam was a historical person uh any things that he was wrong and why is he trying to say this because he's saying listen sin the sin that is in the world the the defying of god the the hatred the division the racism the prejudice the the pride the the the all like that came to the world through through adam and what he's trying to say is all have sinned because of that one act and not only have all sin so all have inherited that sin but also all have inherited the consequences of that sin which is ultimately death now some of you are like why because i wasn't there i wasn't in the garden why do i have to you know have all of this problems and trauma and all of these things why is it and we think somehow that if we were in the garden we would have done something differently right that's because we're so prideful the word adam literally means human so what the writer is trying to communicate or what god was trying to say uh adam represents all of humanity and all of humanity has a fundamental core issue and it's this thing called sin and it's gonna get bad in a minute i'm gonna just keep talking but it's gonna get good i promise okay we're gonna get to why we're better now okay but just stay with me uh but blessed all have sinned uh inherited this sin and we have this and and one of the things that sin does jesus says this the the light of god has come into the world but we have loved darkness more than we love light so one of the things that sin does it actually it affects our loves like our ability to like my ability to love my wife my ability to love you my beliefs will love god but sin has infected that it it is it is it is so so so he's trying to like all of us kind of come into this and he's writing them because they're trying to like act like they got it all together and they don't need jesus and he's like no no no all of y'all was it and it all came through adam and this is important because what this does is it eliminates the categories that we like to put people in so you and i we like to put people in good good good people and bad people categories and have you ever noticed you're always in the good per person category right like think about this who moved here to new york who moved here to new york moved here okay okay right like the part of the reason you moved here is because you're trying to get away from those people those bad people in the midwest okay those people in the south like they don't like if they were just like me they just thought like me voted like me hung out like me dressed like me when then then the world would be a better place can i tell you that god does not use our categories and what he's trying to get us to understand is that no all of you come in through the same way and you all got the same fundamental problem and what he's trying to get us to see is that listen the core problem going on in the world it's not them it's all of us you know what i mean like like like he started like and that's what the jews were doing they're like you know they're wrong i'm right and gentile's like they're wrong i'm right and then god's in heaven like you're both right everyone's wrong what do you think everyone's wrong but everyone's loved and that is the good news but what happens is we sort of put people into these categories and we think that man you know if we can just deal with the rich people you know then the world will be a better place if the rich people would just stop being selfish and the rich and people they're like oh if we can just deal with the poor people they can just try harder you know then we'll have world peace no that's not the answer why because the core issue is the fact that we have all been affected by this thing called sin and that is why things are this way and and here's the thing like i know that this is not necessarily something that we all want to hear but it is uh the reality of what's going on and and and we know this is true because like you ever see never played like hide and seek with a two-year-old right anyone okay well i have cousins that are two and we play hide and seek once uh and upon like their first couple times ever playing i i'm the one that introduced the game to them okay let's play hide and seek right so they had never even played the game before and we're playing hide and seek and they go to count and i go to hide and i'm looking back and they're counting like one two and then they're looking three how did they learn that they learned that because they come from adam are you following me you know what i'm saying so like you don't have to be taught how to sin like you just come out of the womb like mine have you ever had a baby say yours [Applause] no right because so i'm trying to like make the case because somebody like no i'm good okay how's it going for you we all come into this world with that thing that we inherited from adam and the core problem underneath all our problems is sin and all of us come from adam which means all of us equally need jesus the same and this is what i'm trying to get because here's the thing the longer we become christian the smaller the cross becomes because we start to think that it's art like you know the older brother story we are so good at being the older brother because we start to believe that it's our serving and it's our prayer and that's our bible reading and it's all these and it's the fact that i know the the five and we start to think that that is somehow what marriage god's favor nope not at all my friend all of us and we're gonna i'm gonna prove it to you okay because you don't believe me i'm gonna prove it to you you guys ready um so it says this that that that death came through sin so there was a physical death so jesus says if you eat from the street you're surely gonna die and um eve like that promise is empirically proven uh because last time i checked every single human being has died and that's just a fact of life here's the thing we were not created and intended to do that but sin actually brought that so there's this physical death but there's also this spiritual death this sense of alienation the sense of man like i i like i'm created by god and for god but this this sense that man there's when i come into the world i like i have this sort of distance or this alien nation from god but then there's this eternal death this this idea that man ultimately if i don't follow what paul is about to tell me to follow and trust in jesus to be the one that overcame death to be the one that lived a sinless life then then there's consequences for that and we don't like it but take it up with jesus not me okay it says this in verse uh 14 it's nevertheless death reign from the time of adam to the time of moses even over those who did not see him by breaking your command who is the pattern one says this but the gift is not like the trespass so the trespass was adam's obedience he took that you know treat the eve and they kind of they sin first of all if it was me i'd have been up that tree way faster than both of them okay uh how much more did god's grace in the gift that came by the grace of the one man jesus christ overflowed to many nor can the gift of god be compared to the result of one man's sin can i read that one more time because that's really good news nor can the gift of god the grace of god be compared to the woman i said translation here's some really good news christian there is more grace in jesus than sin in you that's really good news because if you're anything like me you've said some things and done some things this week that could be classified as sin and don't you love how time we we like love to spiritualize it you know the devil's really testing me okay let me debunk that real quick james won can we put up james 1 verse 13. james 1 verse 13. uh it says this in james 1 verse 13 basically when tempted no one should say god is tempting me for god cannot be tempted by evil nor does he tempt anyone so god cannot be tempted by evil so like there's never a time when you do evil that god was involved and that's good because the the the evil that's happening in the world that's not god i'll tell you who it is keep going verse 14. okay but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and entice each person it's time to wait next verse and after desire has conceived it gives birth to after desires has deceived it gives birth to are there areas and places and spaces that you're going that gives that that kind of tempts these desires on the inside of you you know what i'm saying so like we love to blame it on like god's testimony the devil's trying me but like what were you doing last night at like where were you at at those were you with people that were tempting you were you in spaces like that's not god fam you know what i'm saying like i love you and i love me and i do that too you know like we love to over spiritualize even like you know like god's really testing me or like he's really like testing my patients and we use that as an excuse to just like be rude to people no okay here's also a crazy thing i've been thinking about so you know like the garden is this okay are you guys good to just be or can we just teach real quick okay so you know how the garden was perfect the garden was like perfect conditions there was no like you know no mama issues no daddy issues like their dad was god you know what i'm saying and like they still sinned and here's the thing sometimes and this is no they're that we do like i like i do act out because of stuff that has happened to me but what we like to do is defer the responsibility for our actions as if we that's not the core issue with your parents and the core issue with me is the fact that i come into this world with sin you know what i mean so like because sometimes we like to like excuse ourselves for being rude to people no no if that's not who you are in christ that's not who you are the new you is the true you so like i love enneagrams and all these things i love it but that does not give you an excuse to be a jerk or to be anything that god has not called you to be in christ you know what i mean so but i'm gonna show you why oh god help me okay so for if by one man okay the judgment follow one sin brought condemnation but the gift follow many trespasses and broad justification for if by the trespass of the one man death reigned through that one man how much more will those who received received received so condemnation is earned like the effects of adam that is we earn that you don't you don't earn god's grace you receive it you don't earn righteousness you receive it you don't earn justification you receive it nobody's getting to heaven because they earned it the only righteousness that's going to be in heaven is the righteousness of jesus because consequently just as the one trespass results in condemnation for all people also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people for just as one through the sin of the one many were made sinners also through obedience many will be made righteous so jesus is talked about elsewhere in the new testament as the as the last adam so adam was the first type and first representative and jesus is the second so jesus is the one that can be our substitute because jesus is sinless jesus was born of a virgin so he did not come into this world with sin he was not the holy spirit is is is what god so that is why we need jesus to deal with our sin problem does that make sense because he is perfect so we cannot more money more career more fame our way out of the sin problem but that's what we think because what society has effectively done and said i don't need god anymore i got reason i got intelligence i got technology i got academic scholarships i got degrees i can i i don't need the problem with that is if you don't need god the sin thing doesn't go anywhere you know what i mean like there's still problems in the world this good world that god created so that means that jesus is the only answer okay so i'm sorry i'm getting excited about this so what i want to do is kind of show you okay in christ in adam we sin in christ we are sinless in adam there was death in christ there is a life and adam there's condemnation in in christ there's justification in adam there's disobedience in christ there's perfect obedience to the point of the cross jesus perfectly obeyed everything that was in the law in adam humanity's made sinners in christ were made righteous and adam trespassed in christ free gift adam turned for the father in the garden jesus turned to the father in the garden adam was naked and ashamed jesus was nearly naked and bore our shame adam's sin brought us thorns jesus wore a crown of thorns adam substituted himself for god in the garden that's what sin does it substitutes ourselves for god i become god i become the authority i become jesus was god substituting himself for sinners adam said that a tree jesus bore our sin on the tree adam died as a sinner jesus died for sinners so jesus is the true and the better adam [Applause] and that is why we need jesus does that make sense so you know that scripture that we love right if anyone is in christ the old is gone and the new is here come on somebody it's a it's a great scripture what is the old that is gone though the old that is gone is the old way of trying to make your way right before god because you thought see the law was a trick in the sense that it's part not a trick sorry that's bad theology it was it's good and it's perfect but what it did was it revealed just how much humanity could never ever in its own actually obey god the way that god's holiness requires to be honest because he's holy he's perfect so here's the good news i now have been given a righteousness and an obedience in a resume that's not my own like okay lashon is brilliant as stats right in analytics so if i was to go and apply for a job in analytics with my resume get out of here buddy because i don't even i don't even know how to use a calculator okay but if myself went and applied for a job but i took her resume and put my name at the top but had her credentials you better believe i'm going to be accepted not on the basis of my on the basis of her credentials what is the gospel he who knew no sin became sin for us so that we could become the righteousness of god which means that when that first song gone no matter if i sin three seconds ago three days ago last night i'm gonna lift my hands and be bold why because i am not worshiping worshiping with confidence on the basis of my perfection and this is why people when they sin they distance himself from church that's why covet wrecked the church because people was willing because they have no accountability and they come back and they're like oh my goodness like i am out of a rhythm and you think that like you're accepted on the basis of your rhythm or your performance or your and we distance ourselves from dinner party when we look at porn or we do all this stuff can i tell you we're not accepted on the basis of anything if your faith is in jesus christ his work and this is the fundamental difference for every religion c.s lewis was asked this what's the difference between all word of religions he chuckled that's a easy one grace grace unmerited favor and grace you know that a christian when a christian gets to the judgment deceit we're not like hebrews says we're not like our sin the judgment of our sin was already taken on the cross i'm i'm ready for i'm gonna be getting rewards you know what i'm saying i'm ready for my rewards like heaven for the judgment seat for the christian is reward time baby like okay check hebrews read it you don't believe me that's what the scriptures teach and this is good news so the old is going condemnation is gone we love the verse there's now no condemnation for those are in christ jesus but there is if you ain't in christ jesus that's just the reality of the fact fam i'm sorry there is condemnation and and part of the condemnation is the fact that our sin like there will be ultimate day of judgment but there also our sin judges us and of itself romans 1 talks about how like you know people just wild out and god just gave them over to the effects of their sin like heaven could come to earth but hell also be ruling up in this piece too james talk about it your tongue can bring hell to earth so we experience the condemnation of our sin here and now when we don't allow the grace of jesus the righteousness of jesus the holy spirit to purify us of that so the gospel so janelle's going to explain that a bit more next week so i'm not going to go into like how we live it out now in the sanctification process but the good news though the gospel is not about your works is jesus was born of a virgin he lived perfectly he died he was rose again and he ascended and we now are the recipients of that and just like the jews and gentiles they're fighting they're trying to like run up in their pedigree paul's like no all of you all have sinned but the gift of god is jesus christ and now you can receive and be justified okay and the reason because like what i'm i don't like i just wish that we as christians were more humble right like i myself i'm so not humble like i'm 10 years into being a christian and i swear i'm like awesome it is so weird and like we walk around because i got a microphone in my hand like somehow there's a chasm and a gap between people between you or not this is not the gospel that paul preached did you know and i'm going over time because i got to get this word out my spirit okay later on in paul's life like chronologically if you look at his life paul is the one that wrote this he's like planet churches all the way he's basically like the christian like who's saying boat like he's the boss right you know who's saying both this who's like an awesome person okay like later on in his life he's like oh my goodness i got like i'm the least of the apostles like i got oh like like jesus i'm the chief he called himself the chief sinner so so what happens is here's the thing right so like here's the tension like i'm a recovering sinner and i'm a developing saint so we need to live in that tension like like in christ i'm a saint but i have to walk that process out so like jesus is covering me like like like honestly right now like i look as good to as christ to god the father he's like oh my goodness whoo that's that's perfect that's holy that set apart but in my practice i still have the effects of adam that i need to walk out so we need to live with that humility is this too deep is this are you guys following me okay so i'm trying to help us because what happens is you become a christian like why am i not changed because you're a recovering sinner and you're developing to live out your saintly identity and become more like christ but paul was just so aware of the fact that he says i am who i am by the grace of god i am who i am husband wife christian believer accolades we are who we are by the grace of god and here's a crazy thing somebody like you're still thinking about the fact that you gotta be the recipient of adam's sin you're like you're you haven't got from that part you're like what i wasn't even that's unfair what's more unfair is that we are all the recipients of jesus work that we had nothing to do with his you know what i'm saying that's way more unfair do you follow me so four quick things that happens now that we're better now first is we have a new righteousness you have a new righteousness and it's not paul says i don't have a i have a righteous apart from the law of translation i have a righteousness apart from my goodness my perfection so we need to see each other like this so a new righteous me a new like like has god the father ever been pleased ever not been pleased with the righteousness of god's son no so now in christ that's who i am i receive it that's what the scriptures just teach i have a new justification meaning that i'm not condemned anymore i'm justified i'm not guilty y'all got to film me snoop dogg was right if he's talking about his faith in jesus you know what i'm saying so i'm justified whoa praise god i have new life adam brought death christ brought life that's why jesus says hey nicodemus uh you gotta be born again he's like go on my mother's womb what are you talking about no no no born again born from born with new life born with the life of christ you need a new dna you need you need you need the holy spirit to come on the inside of you so a new life we have new life now and we're going to talk about how do we live out that new life in the next seven weeks so make sure you come back and the last thing is we have a new reign and the verse it says how much more will those who receive the the abundance of the grace of jesus christ reign in life so through adam death and sin reigned through jesus grace reigns so we are under a new authority a new king so that's good news because the power of my old life see the power of jesus is way stronger than the sin of adam because some of us got addictions in here some of god said can i tell you oh i'm gonna feel this thing strongly the power of christ to overcome is stronger why because you're no longer under the power of saying you're now under a new reign and a new authority i don't care what the doctor said i don't care what your family history is i don't care what epigenetics says i don't care because here's the thing oh i'm i just got to teach this okay so because what happens is we we listen to we we settle for like diagnosis of the world but so much of the world does not even believe in a supernatural worldview does that make sense so they don't believe in demons they don't believe in the power of the holy spirit so we need to be careful about who we see like i'm about to start therapy yes but i'm going to a christian therapist that believes in the power of the holy spirit why because i don't want someone diagnosing me with something that does not have a context for the god that got out of the grave you know what i mean so you need to be careful as a christian because you need to understand that you're under a new reign i'm helping somebody today i'm just going to tell you you're going to get this word or you're going to get this word okay so we have a new reign and that's what it means to be a new creation jesus is he's he's creating a new humanity he's bringing a new humanity and that's why he's trying to write to the roman church he's like listen y'all are so stuck down here i'm up here y'all are so focused on democrat republican black white asian latino korean japanese rich and poor i'm up here i am creating a new humanity that's going to deposit a new holy spirit and what i'm doing is is far greater and far powerful and all of humanity can now be under new reigns so the church is under a new authority a new head a new king and jesus is leading us so why do i have hope for the future despite the fact that covet is ravaging churches and its ravaged churches everywhere why because jesus is our authority and jesus is building this thing and jesus is building my life and jesus is building my marriage and i know i got some stuff that's wrong with me and i know but can i tell you my faith and my trust is my hope is the one who suffered a good work in me he will rule and he will reign and he will lead me into new life in jesus name let's stay into our feet oh okay i just had to get that out okay read romans all summer it's roman summer okay it's not hot girl summer or hot boy summer it's roman summer but hey christians can we be humble can we stop wearing our like badges of like honor and like theology you know because here's the thing if you're okay i heard this i'm stealing this but i'm gonna if you are wrong in the way that you're right you're wrong even if you're right so i'm not saying don't stand up for issues i'm not saying don't confront sin regulation says be gentle in how you restore so if we are here holding up our like you're self-righteous and that is pharisee material and jesus see jesus offends everybody here friends the person which is out here walling out here from the person who think that because they do good the younger brother and the older brother in luke 15. jesus coming straight for you for your your your edges okay and he's gonna deal with us because come on there's no one like him there's only one name
