The Sopranos: "Johnny Cakes"

what is up sopranos fans kino here and we are back with another day of sopranos timber today we're looking at the eighth episode of season six johnnycakes now tony and carmela are really worried about aj he's a college dropout he's working at blockbuster part-time and he isn't really interested in anything productive he doesn't want to do anything with his life um he even sells the drums that his father bought him so that he can go out clubbing every night uh with his friend hernan now hernan is played by vincent piazza who will later go on to play lucky luciano in boardwalk empire and that crowd pretty much only hangs around with aj um because he's tony soprano's kid and they either want to you know learn more about what the gangster life is like or they want to get something from tony like money or power or something like that so that's the only reason they associate with aj later on however aj decides that he needs to avenge his dad to get revenge on junior for shooting him so he goes and sees junior who's currently locked up at the mental home and while he's there he accidentally drops the knife that he brought to kill junior with and he ends up getting tackled by security and taken down now tony is able to keep aj from getting arrested or getting in trouble um and he yells at him for being stupid and basically almost ruining his life by doing this aj says that he did it because tony always talks about the godfather and his favorite scene being where michael avenges his father um and kills the men who attacked him but tony tells him that that's just a movie and he needs to grow up and you know not take things like that too seriously and i think that this is kind of a shot at the people who um take the show way too seriously and who try to live their life by like fictional stories um so i think it's kind of a joke in that regard later on however aj passes out at the club from a panic attack basically being overwhelmed by all the feelings he has as tony soprano's kid and what that means for him meanwhile vito is still hiding out in new hampshire he can't even tell his wife and kids where he's at um because he's scared that if anyone ever finds out they'll come kill him phil especially really wants to kill vito um because vito married his cousin and he takes as a personal disrespect his cover story for being in new hampshire that he tells all the locals is that he's there to write a book on rocky marciano but while he's there he starts to grow close with jim the owner of the local diner whose nickname is johnnycakes the title of this episode one night after being out at a bar uh jim ends up kissing him but vito pushes him away and this leads to them getting into a fight you know vito just can't accept the fact that he's gay he doesn't want to be out like that on the ends of attacking jim who beats him and basically leaves him there later vito apologizes though and admits that he has been living in the closet this whole time and finally admits to someone that he's gay they make up and later on they take a motorcycle ride out to the country and end up having sex so we can see a relationship developing between these two meanwhile tony is approached by a real estate agent named juliana skiff she represents jamba juice who wants to buy the chicken store that tony owns he doesn't really want to sell the building because the business has been there forever and it really gives a lot of character to the neighborhood however he is interested in juliana she is beautiful and he wants to you know have sex with her she eventually convinces him to accept the deal and they end up going back to her place to celebrate and this leads to them starting to have sex however tony really feels guilty about cheating on carmella especially after she took care of him after the shooting and he abruptly leaves in the middle of sex and goes back home however he's still pretty angry about not getting sex and so he ends up yelling at carmelo when he gets home so we can see that even when tony does the right thing he still ends up making a mess of it by his actions later on the chicken store is sold to jamba juice and patsy who collects money from the place um complains that it's over for the little guy earlier in the episode they tried to uh shake down this big coffee chain to get protection money like they do with small businesses um but it doesn't work because the corporations are just way more powerful than the mafia and they're taking over this old neighborhood they're revitalizing it and it's basically over for the mafia as these corporations come in and start taking everything over but it's a pretty funny uh image that uh patsy is complaining about basically being the victim in this circumstance uh but that
