The Ruination of the USG Ishimura

Soul calendar year 2508 in orbit around Aegis seven in the cygnus system several million light years from Earth the pride of the CEC Fleet and the greatest Hope For Humanity orbits the planet the massive Planet cracker the USG ishimura is preparing to perform its 35th and final Planet crack ending its 62-year career with a bang but unbeknownst to the many of the crew on board this planet crack won't be like any other in the ship's history and will end in the deaths of every soul on board to understand the ishimura and its purpose we need to go back to a time before its building Earth ventured out into the Stars expanding Humanity's Empire thanks to the invention of the shockpoint drive by Hideki ishimura in the 23rd Century small ships were able to reach the farthest reaches of space but the point of this wasn't simply to boldly go and explore Earth's resources were dwindling at an alarming rate skyrocketing the need for new sources of vital ores petroleum and gases life on Earth became strained sources of food power and other vital needs were sometimes not meant colonies were established about the soul system and beyond but soon they too were blood of resources Humanity looked to be on the very brink of Destruction a slow and painful death of starvation of resources this was until 2446 when the Concordance extraction Corporation made a final leap till this point only small shuttle type vessels were capable of shock Point travel but to save the earth and its colonies massive mining ships were needed to perform long-range shock Point jumps thus the massive United space-faring Guild ship ishimura was built in a dock in orbit around Earth this vessel would be the first of its class and a pioneer of a new type of mining named after the inventor of the Revolutionary shockpoint drive it would be the largest vessel to ever utilize one meaning it could perform distant mining operations before transporting the materials back to earth and its colonies the massive 1.6 kilometer ship would also develop a new method of mining called the scan and catch method using an array of multi-spectrum deep core scanners and sensors it could scan a passing asteroid for Vital ores and resources then utilizing an array of powerful gravity tethers it would literally catch the passing asteroid and Pull It in to be mined smelted and stored all on board the ship the ship would then store the processed ore on board before removing any excess material and jettisoning it into space but its most impressive mining method and what the ship and subsequent vessels in its class came to be known for was its Planet cracking Planet cracking was an extensive form of deep mining developed exclusively by the CEC for its Planet cracker class vessels it involved first scanning and scouting out a suitable planet or Moon afterwards a colony was established on the planet to prep it for mining a huge ring-shaped Colony about a kilometer in diameter would be built around the chosen side of the planet crack usually a spot rich and minerals are valuable or then excavation would be done digging out the desired chunk of the planet large gravity tethers would be constructed on the surface of the dig site once this was complete a planet cracker would be brought into geosynchronous orbit over the dig site the ship would then use its powerful gravity tethers to pull the Chunk from the planet literally cracking the planet's crust before hoisting it up to the ship to be stripped and smelted down to its valuable components this method was time consuming and often rendered the planet uninhabitable sometimes completely destroying the planet if not the entire system removing large amounts of Mass from a planet greatly affects its gravitational field if done enough times it could even affect the other planets in the system throwing off their orbits each subsequent crack also produced a massive debris field that would often form a ring of debris around the planet but the yield was massive bringing in trillions of tons of minable material with each planet crack the first object to be cracked by the ishimura was Saturn's moon Titan it was a massive success leading to several other cracks on the moon until eventually only the core remained it yielded huge results prompting the CEC to build four more smaller Planet crackers seemingly overnight the resource problem had been all but solved the resource wars in the colonies fizzled out the USG ishimura did seem like it was the savior of humanity the ishimura was around 1.6 kilometers long and roughly 1500 meters from lower gravity tether stanchions to the top of her or storage Towers she was split into nine sections or decks the bridge was the nerve center of the ship it featured a massive Atrium style Command Deck with a massive windscreen and banks of the latest and greatest consoles featuring data streaming from an array of on-board sensors it also featured the captain's Nest where the commanding officer would keep a 360 degree view of the entire Bridge team just aft of the bridge section was the ship's Central Computer core this section acted almost like a cic on a military vessel it allowed remote access and many of the ship's subsystems in case the bridges incapacitated or locked down next was the crew deck ishimar was designed for deep space travel with missions that could last years to make these missions more manageable not 100 of the ship's 1300 Souls were actually crew many on board were actually dependents of the crew there to increase the morale on board some on board were colonists for the colonies set up for the purpose of prepping a planet for cracking the crew deck was designed to house residents and crew featuring The amenities one would expect for recreation and everyday living a mass Hall lounges gym a zero g basketball court even a small Casino all luxuries to make the black darkness of space seem just a bit more like home on the ishimura's extensive mission the engineering deck was the heart of the ship keeping the ship running and functioning here the ship's Army of nearly 200 Engineers worked around the clock to keep the ship in functioning order the exact type of Drive systems are closely guarded company Secrets but they were capable of lifting around 525 trillion kiloton loads into orbit there was also a shock Point Drive capable of Performing faster than light travel on the massive ship a first of its kind this deck also housed the ship's gravity centrifuge the centrifuge was designed to keep the ships stable whilst hoisting massive loads of raw material or during Planet cracks vital and delicate engineering centers were kept Immaculate through the usage of decontamination Chambers leading in and out of them the flight deck is located on the top side of the vessel around the center line this was a series of docking Bays for the multitude of vessels departing and arriving on the ishimura featuring an almost Airport terminal like Lounge these Bays allowed for shuttle traffic for transporting Personnel PlanetSide or to other ships it connected to the cargo bay allowing shuttles to load ore for transport the exact number isn't known but it's believed the ishimura had a minimum five Personnel shuttles designed for deep space travel The Vessel would of course need plenty of food to feed the 1300 Souls on board the ship featured a Hydroponics deck to perform two duties firstly producing food for the crew and secondly to produce oxygen for all of those on board this deck was located on top of the massive or storage Towers it was so successful that it was noted that the lead horticulturalist Elizabeth cross had an excess of food during the mission over ages 7 and was willing to donate spare food to the colonists on the planet underneath Hydroponics was located a large filtration system that also connected to the medical deck and other parts of the ship this system was used for the removal of waste products as well as for moving air throughout the ship whilst removing carbon dioxide just below the flight deck was the maintenance deck this deck was obviously for the maintenance of the shuttles should they need it the damaged shuttles could be placed on a track and brought in for flight Max to do routine or emergency maintenance on the ships or Colony shuttles along this dorsal section of the ship and near the Command Deck were many of the ship's Escape pods these could also be brought into the maintenance deck for repairs in the four section of the ship above the bridge in crudex was the medical deck to subsidize the extensive running costs of the ishimura a large portion of the vessel was contracted out for medical research and development because of this the ishimore's medical deck was massive and housed over 60 medical professionals and researchers the deck featured multiple state-of-the-art facilities such as a zero-g therapy room an ICU and imaging and Diagnostic Center a bio lab a cryolab a chemical lab and a large morgue the large morgue was probably wasn't a red flag at all I mean deep space mining is a dangerous job so best not to look too deep into it on the underside of the ship four of the ore storage Towers was the mining deck the mining deck was a massive four-deck section of the ship raw material from the pulled section of the planet was brought up and processed on this deck unusable material was discarded while ore was smelted and stored on the ore storage deck located just aft of the mining Deck The Ore storage deck was exactly what it sounds like two massive zero g Towers used for the transportation of the millions of tons of ore and other vital resources obtained during the ishimura's mission the raw material would be kept here until it can be offloaded by shuttles or other means in the process of cracking a planet many times a large debris field is produced when material falls off the planet chunk the ishimura was thus fitted with a large array of mass Driver Auto cannons these cannons made up the Asteroid Defense System or ads this ads could automatically track and Destroy incoming asteroids or debris that threatened the whole of the ishimura in extreme circumstances they can even be utilized for self-defense should the ship come under attack the demise of the USG ishimura actually begins in 2505. the Concordance extraction Corporation discovered the planet hs7 in the restricted cygnus system but CEC never let something as Petty as laws get in the way of them making some credits a full survey of the planet found a rather unassuming looking planet to be an absolute wealth of ore and other vital resources initial scans of the crack site found the composition of the cracked portion to be nearly 65 ore almost double the normal yield a colony was established and for three years the site was prepped for Planet cracking five weeks before the planned date of the planet crack a discovery is made on Aegis 7. a massive Stone artifact known as the red marker is discovered on the planet the significance of this artifact is tremendous the marker is a religious icon to the Galaxy spanning Church of unitology the church being a younger religion still spans the Galaxy and has millions if not billions of members started in 2215 on Earth the Church of unitology believes the human race was created by some kind of alien beings they believe that all humans will be reunified after death using the power inside of the marker they call this event convergence and it can only be done with the knowledge stored in the marker they believe that death is just the beginning and that through convergence they will achieve godhood the pull of the church is massive and far-reaching members of the church achieving ranks through devotion and monetary donations meaning the highest ranking members are those of high influence politicians doctors scientists company representatives and spaceship captains the more influential a person the more desirable they were to the church word of the markers Discovery reached the CEC who jumped at the find they prepped the flagship of their Fleet the USG ishimura and stacked her crew with unitologists from the captain to the chief medical officer only loyal unitologists were chosen for the mission the ishimura set out to crack Aegis 7 but more importantly to retrieve the marker and bring it to the church and to Earth but upon discovering the marker the colonists on Aegis 7 felt a change insomnia became a rampant issue in the colony many reported disturbing dreams and an inability to sleep as insomnia progressed dementia set in some reporting seeing things long-lost relatives or lovers no longer there dementia soon led to violence sometimes just angry outbursts others performing physical acts of violence a minor named Brant Harris went to one of the colony's doctors begging for help with his insomnia but nothing was working his body resisting even chemical sedatives becoming irate Harris took the doctor hostage forcing the hospital staff to call the colony security team as the security forces arrived to subdue the minor Harris opened fire on them with an industrial mining tool striking a nurse and cutting her in half killing her instantly as the time until the planet cracking would take place ticked away cases of dementia insomnia grew on top of that violence became rampant more cases of homicide and suicide were reported than the colonial security could manage two weeks before the ishimura would arrive 50 unitologist colonists gathered in the center square of the colony and committed ritual suicide they were offering their bodies to the marker preparing themselves for a convergence finally the ishimura arrived in system and an orbit of Ages 7 only to find the colony in complete turmoil the ishimura security team brought on board several individuals for detainment and extradition back to the inner colonies to stand trial for homicide also brought on board were dozens of bodies interned into the morgue they were there additionally to be autopsies and researched for medical study as the Asian were preps for Planet crack unbeknownst to many the red marker is brought on board the ishimura and prepped for its trip back to Earth seemingly as if reacting to the removal of the marker all hell broke loose on the colony during the planet crack all contact was lost with the colony colonists began to die in an alarming raid something seemingly attacking the colony in a desperate bid to protect the ship and the marker the ship's Captain Benjamin Matthias issues a no-fly order barring any flights to and from the planet seeing the massive casualties mounting on the planet the ship's Chief security officer Alyssa Vincent protests wanting to take a squad of officers to the planet's surface to investigate but she was overruled by the captain unbeknownst to the ishimura's crew the colony had come under attack a virus of Unknown Origin began infecting and changing the deceased colonists an infection that Twisted the body structure and reanimated the dead it drove them to hunt down and murder others letting them too become infected while Matthias was simply trying to save the marker his actions could very well have saved the ship had they worked at this point the colony was in full-blown chaos several individuals loaded up on the shuttles in a bid to escape the doomed Colony several took off from ages 7 one shuttle shortly after liftoff crashed back down into the pad the explosion killed dozens and took out several other shuttles leaving the rest of the colonists to their doomed fate three shuttles approach the ishimura being ordered Away by the flight control officer the captain strictly enforcing the no-fly zone he had established when the shuttles didn't turn back the ads cannons were turned on them the mass drivers shredded one shuttle killing all on board another shuttle was peppered and impacted into the hull of the ship but one vessel successfully made it into the ishimura's hangar onboard was digform and Colin Barrow his deceased wife Jennifer Barrow and unbeknownst to him an infected colonist transformed into a creature called an infector the thing did exactly what it was named for infecting Colin's wife who subsequently killed him the trio of infected colonists then retreated into the ductwork of the ishimura the infection of the ship had begun the first place the infected traveled to was the ship's morgue loaded with dead colonists the Necromorphs got to work increasing their numbers security teams are sent to the hangar deck to lock down the crash shuttle only to find it completely empty other than some blood Trails leading away from it with a small army of infected now spilling out of the morgue and into other parts of the ship the unsuspecting crew of the ishimura were descended upon crew performing their daily routine were caught entirely unaware as no alarms were sounded to this point security teams were now inundated with panicked calls as crew reported alien creatures killing the crew unaware that these creatures were the reconstituted members of their own crew family friends and co-workers while the Necromorph swept through the ship security made a vain attempt to quell the undead but the creatures seemed very resilient to contemporary Small Arms able to shrug off otherwise lethal amounts of gunfire it wouldn't be revealed until much later that the most Surefire way to subdue them is the removal of their limbs if it didn't kill them they'd at least slowed them down but the marker was on board as noted before on the colony it was affecting the mental state of the crew the captain was now under an immense level of stress The Devout unitologist was maintaining a one-track mind he was dead set on returning the marker to Earth he denied any request for a distress call stating the outbreak was a test from God even as the situation grew dire and more reports of attacks were spreading throughout the ship captain Matthias only grew more erratic another unitologist on board Chief science officer Terence kind cited the marker as being the cause vouching for its immediate removal this only provoked the captain further pushing him into a bout of paranoid rage finally Dr kind declared Captain Matthias unfit for Duty and relieved him of command he ordered the captain restrained so that he could be sedated but a struggle ensued ending with the needle of the sedative being jammed through the captain's eye and into his brain killing him instantly whether it was intentional homicide or an accident Dr kind fled the bridge leaving the bridge team in a state of pandemonium Prue were slowly but surely being picked off as the army of Undead grew with each death of a survivor pockets of survivors formed in medical and Engineering ragtag groups forming barricades and last bastions to fight against the Necromorphs all across the ship there were heavy reverberations All of This ship's 50 deep space Escape pods began to launch every single one of them was empty the crew were trapped like Rats on board with time running out and the ship being taken over by the dead Dr kind realized there was only one hope left to destroy the ship and prevent the infection from spreading to the rest of humanity he made his way to the computer core and sabotaged the ship's engines the heavy chunk of Aegis 7 now weighing down the ishimura causing her orbit to begin to Decay this would cause the ishimura to crash back into the planet destroying the ship the marker and all on board Chief security officer Alyssa Vincent discovered kind's plan but too late she was unable to get the engines back online with most of the crew gone and all hope lost Vincent sacrificed herself to be able to launch a probe with a distress call on it this would likely have been the end of the ishimura survivors numbered in the dozens if not the single digits the Necromorphs were on all decks fleshy growths were forming all across the ship its orbit decaying and its systems were failing but fortunately or unfortunately the signal Vincent sent was picked up by a passing shuttle the USG kelian the Kalyan was a zebra industry shuttle contracted by the CEC the crew was being sent to investigate the communications blackout on the USG ishimura on board the Kalyan was acting Commander CEC Chief security officer Zach Hammond pilot Corporal Aiden Chen co-pilot Corporal Haley Johnston computer specialist Kendra Daniels and the Starship systems engineer Isaac Clark the kellyanne attempted to contact the ishimura to request permission to land but owing to the communications blackout established by The Late Captain Matthias and the fact that 99 of the crew were reanimated corpses they received no word back after the Kelly and collided with floating debris they made an emergency landing the ship's main hangar Bay co-pilot Haley Johnston received minor injuries in the crash but the callian would need to be repaired before it could fly off the ishimura Hammond decided to lead the group of others into the ishimura to investigate what was going on leaving Johnston to work on the kellyan while they were gone it didn't take long for the group to come under attack by Necromorphs though catching Corporal Chan off guard and killing him the group splitting up and running for their lives deeper into the bowels of the ship before even having the option to escape the ship the USG Kalyan was attacked by Necromorphs while Clark and Johnston were still on board they attacked the ship's Singularity core causing it to detonate killing Johnston their only way off the ship now destroyed Chief Hammond was now dead set on getting the ishimura functioning and finding a way off the ship the small group got to work restoring power to areas removing quarantine lockdowns and lockouts set up by the crew they repaired the ship's tram systems discovering the engines had been sabotaged and the orbit was decaying they refueled the engines and restarted them they restarted the ship's centrifuge to keep the tectonic load beneath the ship's stable to keep the hole from being battered to Pieces by debris they restored the ship's ads system they even purified the air production system in Hydroponics they finally were ready to repair the ship's communications array having repaired almost half the ship's systems while under constant attack by the reanimated crew but the small group had been under the influence of the marker since being on board it was messing with their minds by now influencing them they were starting to see hallucinations and make bad decisions Chief Hammond encountered the reconstituted corpse of his old shipmate Corporal Chen near the bridge he trapped the reanimated Corporal in one of the only functioning Escape pods in the ship unable to Bear seeing his friend in such a state he launched the Pod once Communications were back online Daniels made an emergency distress call which was miraculously almost instantly answered an Earth Defense Force Destroyer United space-faring military or USM Valor responded immediately the ship entered the system near the ishimura and was on course to intercept the ship they responded that they had picked up a life pod from the ishimura and were in route to assist that life pod was of course the one with the infected Chen inside Daniels attempted to warn The Valor not to open the pod but it was of course too late Necromorphs had killed part of the crew and had attacked the bridge out of control the Destroyer collided with the ore storage deck completely destroying the ship and killing most of the crew had they not been dead already by this time Chief Hammond had had it he declared the ishimura a total loss and then the mission was now changed to evacuate at all cost Daniel's located a shuttle in the ishimura's hangar that needed a singularity core Clark and Hammond decided to board the USM Valor and take the core from the destroyed ship in doing so they found that the Destroyer was packing a full complement of ammunition including nuclear Ordnance they were in the cygnus system to stop or destroy the ishimura on top of that they were attempting to recover the marker for earthgov before recovering The valor's Singularity Corps Hammond still under the effects of the marker and countered Chen once more Delirious he saw chana's alive and unchanged Chen attacked Hammond who was jolted from his dementia only to throw Chan and himself into the shielding of the core killing themselves but allowing Clark to grab the core for the shuttle with the shuttle repaired the determination was made that the marker needed to be returned to the surface of Aegis 7. the markers seemingly being the source of all the horrors that befell the ship the last two off the ship were Isaac Clark and Kendra Daniels with the marker aboard the shuttle shortly after the gravity tethers on the ishimura failed dropping the massive several trillion ton tectonic load onto Aegis 7 below with the massive weight of the ore gone the ship was slingshot out of Aegis 7's orbit out into deep space where it floated aimlessly in the cygnus system this surely seemed like the final fate of the ship its entire crew now dead and shambling about the ship the Earth government put out a statement about the famous ship saying it its crew and the Aegis Colony were all destroyed in a terrorist attack all the while searching for the remains of the ship as well as the marker meanwhile a group of illegal miners known as the magpies were mining the cygnus system using a device called The Nest or a shock ring this device was able to locate Scrap and Salvage and shock point it into the ring unfortunately the salvagers accidentally shot pointed the ishimura right on top of themselves destroying the device and much of their Salvage it also subsequently liquefied every Necromorph on board desperate for a Payday they boarded the ishimura to investigate its viability as scrap or possibly Ransom it off to CEC or earthgov shards of the red marker were found embedded in the hull and as the marker does started driving the crew insane one of the magpies recovered A Shard and fled the ship while the others began infighting not long afterwards the Necromorphs as Necromorphs do reanimated and started attacking the magpies the lone Magpie who left with The Shard brought it to the Earth gov ships in the system attempting to get paid for the find she was of course shot because the government is evil as in the case in most horror genres earthgov was notified of the location of the ishimura and finally it was taken into custody and the shards of the marker removed afterwards it was transported to Titan station the Station built upon the remnants of the Moon that the ishimura had stripped bear at the beginning of her life how fitting that before her demise she would be stationed here to be cleaned and sanitized of evidence in 2511 three years after the events of the Aegis 7 incident another Necromorph outbreak occurred on Titan station this time in quelling the infestation the marker that had been brought to the station was destroyed causing the station's reactors to overload and detonate caught in that explosion was the USG ishimura the ship after 65 years of existence was vaporized in a massive Supernova ending its career and the horrors it faced April Fool's considering doing Dead Space for a while now because I just love the Dead Space series it's an absolute gem in the horror genre and the recent remake is just um chef's kiss just beautiful oddly enough while my other video on the Nostromo and the pillar of autumn had an incredible amount of information to go off of not so much with the ishimura I found myself having to scrounge for information kind
