On the internet it's long been clear that intelligence agencies record everything... ...and do whatever is technologically possible. However, I never imagined it to be so widespread. On the TV news I learned that not far from my house... ...the NSA has a military base. So I wrote a funny article... ...in which I, on behalf of the NSA Protection Association... ...propose an introduction weekend to get to know the spies... ...and maybe become friends. Four days after I posted it online the police paid a visit. They rang the doorbell, and there was a police car parked outside. They wanted to know if it was a demonstration... ...and how many people would show up. I said: It's not a demonstration. It's just a hike with a bunch of friends. Just the idea that I'm being monitored... ...means I have to be careful of what I think in my head... ...and what I say to others. When I tell someone something I soon think: He could betray me. Or: What do other people think? I can step on people's toes... ...or it could become awkward, so then I just won't say things anymore. Then I won't speak out about abuses... ...because I'm afraid of being shut out.
