The title should say "High Frequency Trading", duhh. This is actually the third film in a trilogy:
Interesting to hear 1st-hand anecdotes but honestly didn't learn much on details, so a bit disappointed.
To sum up - there are special order types available to those who know about it and it allows them to jump ahead of others in the regular queue.
These HFTs shave pennies off of pennies off of pennies. It's like if you go to a store to buy something, and upon further investigation, find out the price on a $22 item was $0.01 higher than it would have been because an additional middle man was involved. As far as a the flash crash it impacted the HFTs not investors.
Then one HFT, the main source of the doc.. is mad because some others bent the rules - Uh... they are all trying to bend the rules as cleverly as possible with their algos.
As for the secondary plot twist, the impact on "Capitalism" - there is none.
I thought it was funny though that one guy listed BASIC as part of his programming expertise and it was dutifully reported on his onscreen bio.

A little bit biased. There's some good information, but many of these documentaries have a strong "cognitive dissonance", guilt, or an overall rejection of their roles. They try hard to present it as an evil - something bad running amok.
Anybody know of any documentaries specifically about the flash crash? Great watch.
It's an interesting documentary.
I have heard about Dave Lauer before from people in the industry, who say that he was a hack and wasn't able to keep his head above water at Citadel, and lost his job. Therefore, he started protesting what HFT firms do.
