[Music] this is actually quite the quite the high terrain rating [Music] [Applause] [Music] hello everybody this is ke94 and welcome to another episode of ke 94's geocaching Adventures here on hollyburn Ridge just across from Brothers Creek here we're going to be looking for some geocaches in the rain it's going to be fun there's some very creative ones up here so tag along on another geocaching Adventure let's go [Music] [Applause] all right I feel like this is an episode out of destination Adventure here shout out to his channel by the way highly recommend giving his channel a watch as well look at these ruins apparently according to this label this is a 1912 Mill site and what I seem to see here is a it looks like a rail of some kind there's a cable here way back in the turn of the century logging was a major industry here as well as the rest of the Pacific Northwest the Pioneers came here and they realized there's so much Lumber here this is going to be our main resource so pretty cool to see all the Stu own wall masonry here as well as uh some of the old artifacts that have been left here check out how thick this wall is it's about I say it's about 2 ft thick and uh this would be another classic place for a geocache site I actually surprisingly do not believe there is a cash here I'd have to check my map either way I've already found it and we're going to be hiking to a cach that I have not found but the things you find are the woods here likely this Mill was for processing Lumber and and I'm guessing I don't know what this is for I believe that's a stove top it looks like a stove top or some kind of door um that has since kind of broken off if anybody in the YouTube world can let me know in the comments what that what you think that might be this would be awesome cuz I'm I'm curious to know what all this all these fragments are about but I like how they were just left here and you know no graffiti and all that stuff this looks like an old piece of a chain link very cool oh and I see some writing here let's see what this writing says uh it's like 1891 okay so this steel was likely forged in 1891 by STI B bam or St yeah St STI B bacham 1891 hear that I think I think it's another geocache calling out to me that it it needs to be found like right now I hear it you see it I don't see it I don't see it maybe it's in here I don't know I don't know maybe let's go further down the sound is getting louder it's little cash voice is saying find me find me could it be inside the stump it's very possible anything in there no not by the looks of it all right let's let's regroup here do you see something odd here cuz I certainly do something does not look normal here you know when a cat hides under the blanket and only its tail is showing and you think the cat you know knows that it's going to be found but really in it's mind it's thinking it's hiding I'm pretty sure this is kind of what the Geocache is best hiding spot ever oh and it's been eaten by Critters holy moly geocache site this has being nibbled holy moly okay well I think the log book is writable yeah looks like the log book here is uh is in a nice plastic bag so going to sign this move on to the next one I'll be real honest with you got some major spook Vibes here it's like kind of foggy kind of rainy and I expect to see some kind of bipedal bear-like figure that some might call Sasquatches appear behind a stump playing peekaboo or something when you go out in the woods today so a trend that I have noticed and it's probably made by people but so these are ancient springboard notches so back in the logging days uh a logger would hit this with an axe and put a springboard in that he would stand on the springboard and cut the rest of the tree down because the springboard gives them a bit of height well nowadays springboard notches also can double as eye sockets and some people put rocks and the springboard notches because you know it's a funny thing to do and I'm seeing a lot of them around [Music] here so right now I'm gaining altitude and uh gradually gaining altitude and as you can tell by my winded talking that it is quite a bit of exercise in the rain but this will get me higher up so that once I get to the caches I can just work my way down and eventually to a way out so fingers crossed that I don't have to do too much of this up and down stuff but it's beautiful out here in its own Eerie way I have to say I check out this stump here this is a stump that was obviously old growth and obviously has since uh ex passed on yeah they do kind of just melt in your I really like them I'm going to guess that this stump was struck by lightning at one point seeing that it was really charred and you can actually walk in here and uh it's amazing how soundproof these uh these old stumps are the thing things you discover while geocaching this is an absolutely beautiful little canyon and if it really weren't for the game I mean yeah sure as a muggle ey would have probably found it but it would taken me a little longer maybe to find this is so cool to be able to be out here allbe it in the rain but provides kind of a neat effect to the whole West Coast Vibe no geocaches that I found here recently or out to find but just wanted to show you that really cool spot and perhaps in the warmer Seasons a good swimming hole right now climbing out of this Canyon at the site of another geocache and just want to show you doesn't this look like a castle and uh spoiler alert this this uh cach is called tree Castle so we're going to take this and woo we got ourselves a classic plastic container here full of stuff and a log book says geocache site please read so if you don't know what a geocash is and you see these leave them be I have a decision to make and that decision vision is whether I go further north up the mountain to find more caches and then work my way back down to the cluster or do I just turn back now and aim for just that cluster well as some of you might be noticing I am walking and I just so Happ be walking North because I'm sure that many of you geocachers out there will agree that you can't find just one and if I see more cashes on my map I'm going to be tempted to go for them so here we go going further north getting further up than altitude may come across a bear may come across a mountain lion jaguar tiger who knows what's up here either way the geocaches are calling let's go the name of the cache is called Big Tree I wonder if it could be there let's take a walk up here and see this is an old growth Western red cedar tree if I recall if I know my trees and I think the cash will likely be at the base of this tree and I always check the back of the tree first but sometimes what happens so I I actually should have checked the front of the tree first and still has not stopped raining and I may have taken the hard way around this tree because it is likely if the cash is going to be here it might actually be down there we got this folks we got this hey it's a Geo it's a dirty Geo dirty cash being all covered in dirt all right let's go sign this thing things I do for vlogging and geocaching oh and the log book is a little bit must just a little bit all right I'm just going to like prop you oh I'm going to prop you here handy dandy pen sign the log in the rain try to keep the log book nice and dry oh yeah all right let's keep you dry I want to uh provide a bit of perspective here about how muddy the trails are just want to show you so this mud that's not so deep it's this yeah feel that look at that look at that the [Music] trail I'm sipping too the trail is getting narrower and narrower and I'm still still kind of far away from the cashes that I'm intending to grab so hopefully we're going to get a good chunk of these [Music] today this isn't stable oh that flexed [Music] when you are hiking along these Trails it is super important to be paying attention to the trail markers they are in this case kind of a Scarlet orange as you can see here coming up really important that you're keeping an eye out for those because if you don't see them there is a likelihood that you are not on the trail and sometimes you'll come across an old decommission Trail and that trail will take you perhaps nowhere and don't you just love it when the Creeks become Trails or the trails become Creeks oh my goodness oh well Crossing okay challenge accepted I'm going to avoid this puddle to the best of my ability I'm going to have to do a little bit of a little bit of a detour around here cuz I am not going to put my already wet feet in that puddle to make them even more wet starting to feel the seepage folks it's seeping through okay and of course the mud does not cease it is refusing my cease and assist order that I verbally gave it I request you to cease and assist mud please cease and assist your muddiness I am encouraged though because there's a geocache on the way all right folks I'm going to make sure that this log book stays dry to the best of its ability and I'll try with my best ability to keep it nice and dry because let me tell you the rain status report has not let up oh and my hands are really cold and it's like late may like it's it's actually it feels like winter time and uh I'm also soaking wet and distracted about being soaking wet so there we go going to sign the log book pets 94 May 26th 2024 Bazinga cash Zinga get a load of the size the sheer size of this tree now okay under the shadow of the hollyburn fur I'm here to look for another geocache obviously that's what this whole channel is about but it is also about showing you some of the off the beaten path places and right now I'm so soaking wet and my feet are so soaking wet I hope all of you are comfortable at home with a nice warm cup of coffee booya another one for the wind under the shadow of this gigantic tree oh man what a what a journey this has being today try to cat this bus but I don't think I'm going to make it look at that waterfall okay we're going to cross this carefully and uh apparently there's a cash coming up and uh is it as if I jumped into a lake is how wet I am right now and uh this is actually quite the quite the high terrain rating okay I'm getting closer getting closer to it as you can tell it's getting a little dark now and uh this really has been a classic adventure and I need to find this one more cache to feel sorry I'm sorry 19 M 17 M the Cash's name is Junction stump and I think we're at the junction here and uh there are a lot of [Music] stumps and uh we got to find the right one I think I think it's over here somewhere I think perhaps it's the one oh oh this is special what so this is what I mean by kill rag this is a fake stump fantastically well done this is a classic kill ride cache and uh woohoo Bingo got it and we're going to sign the log book and we're going to try to get our butt back to a bus which I'm sure I've missed um here's the log book [Music] okay so walking through wet Shrubbery is probably the closest thing you can get to to jumping into a lake um my feet my hiking boots got so full of water that I could see the water like if I kicked the air I uh I could see the water fly out from my boots that's how much water was in them and so my motoa pandai right now is to get back to a roof a warm roof over my head and uh doing my level bass two dry off cuz uh this is just being an intense day of rain and uh my my hands are so cold too this is being uh it's not June yet but it feels like junuary some people call it junuary and I do believe that there's an element of Truth to that let close this thing up and we're going to put the cash back I think he used a bucket used some chicken wire and created a fake STM out of that super well done worthy of a favorite Point nice thank you kill rag for that one appreciate it this episode's for you take care and uh till next time everybody e e
