good morning and welcome to the race to vegas this is gonna be an electric road trip of course but i'm starting here with the volkswagen golf r because of course it's been known for some time that you can take a combustion car like the golf and go anywhere for years it's just not even been a thought but with the electric cars coming on the market everyone's like you can't go anywhere and we're like uh you know this whole channel is dedicated to showing you you can go anywhere so not only can you pretty much go anywhere with an electric car fairly easily at least in most parts of the u.s what we want to find out is is a tesla faster or is a non-tesla electric car faster there's two charging standards in the u.s the tesla supercharging dc fast charging system this is for fast charging and the ccs fast charging system chademo you've probably heard of it it's kind of dying out we're not even going to focus on it so we've brought five cars to go from our office here in fort collins to las vegas we have a tesla model three uh performance is a brand new car it's like less than 200 miles on it super fresh this is gonna be a really interesting one we have the hyundai ioniq five i like this particular car because it's the sel and not the limited so it actually has a little bit smaller wheels all wheel drive variant we have a tesla model x a long range 348 miles of epa range i think that is the longest range car here uh we tried to get a model s long range but everyone we know in colorado was at this tesla cyber thing opening in texas so anyway and then we have the car that's going to win of course the porsche tycoon because we're driving it uh me and alyssa will be taking the ticon 4 cross turismo and we're just topping it up to 100 because ultra competitive i'll explain the rules and then we have the mustang machi extended range all-wheel drive and in my testing maki's just go so far on a single charge as well it's got little skinny tires to help with range and range has been a big focus on this car so not only is this a little bit of a race between the cars that were that are going to be going there to me the reason we put this together is to test the infrastructure i put a poll out on twitter recently and i said what do you think is the fastest way to travel a tesla or you using the public dc fast charging network everyone said 75 of the people said tesla stuff i genuinely mean this seriously i don't know what's going to win today it could be a toss-up really between any of these cars it's going to be very interesting and so let's run the intro slide and then i'll tell you all about the rules and then we'll hit the road [Music] so the rules for the challenge today it is what five in the morning right now something like that uh we've all come here and we are all charged to 100 and so it is a little bit of a challenge between the cars too and that's why we have so many and so you know everything i think is topped up to exactly 100 state of charge uh all the tire pressures are set at manufacturer rated all of the speeding stuff has to be capped at five miles an hour over the speed limit gps verified so that means we can't do full cannonball style ripping it from charger to charger we actually have to maintain normal road speed so no more than five over uh according to gps which is gonna be really interesting and then it all comes down to the driver to optimize their strategy someone may choose to go slower to extend their range some may choose to go faster but ultimately from here in fort collins to las vegas is about 830 miles it's 12 and a half hours of driving according to google maps without charging all of these cars are going to have to make at least two three or four charging stops to get there and that's the point of this video is purely to see what the experience is like at tesla superchargers versus public dc fast chargers and which is faster so let me walk you through some of my thoughts here the tesla model 3 performance and the model x long range will utilize tesla's supercharger network and well i'll you know each driver will have a camera and they'll explain what they're doing with their strategy inside but essentially um there's not version three superchargers along the entire route and i think that's representative of the country today about i think half the chargers will be about version threes and half will be about version twos version two supercharging maxes out at 150 kilowatts version two version three supercharging maxes out at 250 kilowatts both of which these cars can both take advantage of in terms of the public networks i imagine most of us are going to utilize electrify america because they have 350 kilowatt stations along the highway the entire route which is fantastic so we have the hyundai ioniq 5 which is just known for absolutely smashing charging records that car may not be as efficient as some others but there's some tricks zach can pull out of his sleeve and the thing should charge at about 235 kilowatt peak super deep into the pack if conditions are fine the porsche tycoon this one's across turismo i of course selected one on the arrow wheels the 19-inch wheels and um you know this i i'm just very familiar with this car we've once set the cannonball record using a ticon i know how to optimize the car it loves to be run down to zero percent plugged into a 350 kilowatt charger and it is the fastest charging car here at a peak of 270 kilowatts however it's not the most efficient car here today and so that's going to be a really interesting one it also doesn't have a ton of total range i've actually tested this car at 70 miles an hour at 250 miles which beats epa but it's nothing like what the model x can do in the real world the model 3 or even the mustang mock e which our friends patrick and liv from the maki vlog will be piloting they'll of course have a camera inside so if you aren't subscribed to the maki vlog do that now basically this thing is magically efficient over the rockies i don't know how foreign has done it but i've driven maki you know california route 1 and extended range over the rocky mountains and both times achieved well over 300 miles going up over the mountain pass and into grand junction pretty insane car uh from a range perspective but not the best charging in this particular one you'll get about 150 kilowatts maybe 160 on a good day and so this is sort of pretty efficient for an suv but not the fastest charging thing so each car's got their own i would say strengths and weaknesses and genuinely have no idea what the results are going to be that's why we're doing this is there a prize if you get to vegas first master bedroom at the airbnb and a car does that work space in the garage the master bedroom yeah that's right there's two garage spaces so you can charge and and the master bedroom that's that's what you get if you win uh let me just explain very quickly what's going on here with the model 3 performance you'll see tyman's inside hello uh time is not driving that car that is our friend drew from martian wheels tesla model 3 and um basically this is going to be just a crazy long one or two part video here just on out of spec motoring so you know uh we'll have a full wrap up on out of spec reviews drew and alice own this car alice is in her third trimester she's pregnant and we didn't they didn't want to come up here and you know at three o'clock in the morning and all this stuff so what we're doing is we're putting timing in the car with weight ballast um sandbags to simulate the weight of drew and alice and their little dog ruby and then they're going to intercept each other somewhere along the route pretty early on and then uh time is going to swap cars with drews and come back up here so basically you'll see time in for the first bit of this drive and then for the majority of the video it's really going to be drew and drew was one of our uh you know co-drivers on the cannonball he knows how to optimize evs i i think this car really has a chance of winning here today i i genuinely have no clue what do you think jordan behind the camera what do you think uh yeah i want to say model x long range because i really love it but i could really be wrong i think you might be wrong i have no clue the thing is so this is our friend brandon from teslaflex over here and uh basically he is a fantastic uh social media content creator and now youtuber getting there um and so follow his channels we'll have everything linked in the description of course he just traded his model s plaid for the model x long range and um good color combo too white seats looks nice six-seater uh but he's never really optimized an ev on a road trip before so this is gonna be interesting yeah he's just gotta listen to the tesla nav my favorite car here is a ticon so i'm still gonna vote for that even though you're gonna be in the ionic five yep prediction sir well there's only one car that's gonna win obviously it's my car the hyundai ioniq five i sent some bias i i've got a little road trip experience in me i've got one trip under my belt and i've got to say the hyundai is going to take it because i've got faith in the fast charging it's going to get us there and i think i'm going to be able to skip at least one charger that i don't think anyone else is going to skip so let's do it yeah yeah okay i genuinely haven't even looked at the route yet yeah wow vegas this vegas is that way maybe is it actually i don't know jordan said this morning kyle looks at the looks at the next charger at 10 percent yeah when we get down i mean i know where all the chargers are to vegas i'll just pull into whichever one i think is the last one the tycon can make it to the thing is though a couple chargers have some downed ones yep that's true and there's a couple stations that only have one 350 kilowatts you and i need the 350s the machi does not really need the 350s the maki just needs to go get food and hang out for 40 minutes but if the maki can go farther they could block a 350 out of us so can we just make a rule where you don't you try not to block everything i will win okay no that'll be cool this is um this is gonna be great enough waffling let's get in the cars and go to vegas let's do it let's go to vegas all right so tyman's taking over the very first leg just 50 miles down to denver and then you're swapping we got some sandbags here to simulate the weight difference because we know everyone's gonna freak out that there's just one car in here and so we use sand instead of water or anything because this doesn't really retain heat um so anyway basically um this will simulate the weight difference between you and then drew and alice right we think hopefully so what's your strategy to get the car to him you want him to win or lose uh it doesn't matter to me so you're just going to drive normally i mean i'm just going to do five over the speed only yeah five over the speed limit and use autopilot and cruise yep all right what do you charge up to 100 yep dang that looks good let's do this thing yeah we'll see we won't see you guys at all today different charging networks what was that no we can't there's no chargers in wyoming are you going north no yeah we got let's do that yeah we're all going to do i-70 so we'll all stick together until you have to pull off the charge or everyone's going to be dropping off i imagine something like that cool well let's uh five cars to vegas the race to vegas is on we are in the tycon we want drive mode range i think we're gonna go absolutely full out heated seats no climate control we need every last drop of helping this thing with its efficiency being not the best um but if we leave last we can actually get some arrow advantage behind the cars i've left some variants in the rules for sneaky action it's called 31 degrees no one's battery is warm we all left the cars overnight here so no one's preconditioned we're all leaving cold soaked pretty much charged we're actually only at 97 state of charge indicated the battery pack actually is still kind of warm from yesterday's driving so we're heading out this is going to be crazy are they starting i think they're starting oh they're starting they're going first cars out and you'll have to adjust the cameras as we get going yeah this is it we're starting woo we haven't even put in the navigation where we need to go yet but we need to have the car pre-conditioned for our charging stops of course the thing is what i don't want to do is you want to hear my strategy a little bit alyssa yeah what is it okay we're not going to pre-condition the car right now okay here's the reason why when when you put in the the route plan that you need to go in the tycon basically oh we're at a disadvantage we got to make the lights um when you put in the route plane it's going to try and warm up the battery pack we're going for it you've got to try and warm up the battery pack to get the fastest charging the thing is we're going to go up over the eisenhower tunnel and vale pass which is going to be huge elevation changes i think if we can um basically warm up the car on those stretches then we won't waste energy trying to warm it up now is my idea okay first charge is going to be our that's going to be our weakest point because it like no matter what you do i've always consistently pulled in even at 10 it's like 60 percent you get like 60 kilowatts for like 15 minutes and then it ramps up unfortunately it's very temperature dependent too yeah so we may have to like romp on it and like warm up the battery ourselves because this is the only car without battery preconditioning which is maybe the mustang it's installed they just haven't like put the software on oh we're all taking a little bit different route what's going on here we have the tycoon next to us there's two different ways to get to the highway yeah that's not the good way though kyle can't help but race see that's how we're gonna get kyle to drain all of his battery yeah i don't know where they're going but haha they have a plan of their own bye and now we have the porsche theonik interesting wow this is we could hold everyone up at the lights like you know if it's a green light we just wait there until it goes yellow and then go well no no that's too much how badly do we want the ticon to win i guess the idea here really isn't we don't want any car to win or lose for me personally i genuinely don't know if it's faster to road trip a tesla or a non-tesla vehicle brandon forgot his chargers so he's running back now but we're ready to hit the road and win this race let's go well we are just trying to get out of town right now i was drafting behind timing but we got stuck in a little traffic and now i can't catch up to get on his bumper always fun pulling out all the ev range stops i'm really curious to see how all of our other friends competitors are going to handle their cars today because i think a lot of it also comes down to how you use the car and what's nice at least in the tesla world is we have an expert user drew who knows how to optimize every last drop out of that car and we have brandon who just got his model x who's going to be using the route planner and so a little bit different uh you know type of strategy there perhaps and then in terms of the electric car stuff we are technically in the shortest range car here by quite a bit uh what's the ionic ionix 250 yeah so i think we're in the lowest range car here by at least 20 or 30 miles and i think we still have a chance of winning just because we can optimize the fast charging and the ionic's not really that great on range either in the real world this car actually goes farther than the ionic on the highway in our testing in the in our testing the ionic did 227 miles this did 250 something so pretty close uh gonna be really interesting to see what happens here but i think it's you know step one of getting our audience to understand it's not about the total range of the vehicle that only helps you on leg number one it's all about the charging on a road trip and that is where this ticon just absolutely shines time it's already getting messed up as to where to go here we go i-25 south to denver then we're going to go over i-70 into the mountains and then hit i-15 to vegas we're all taking the same route we are not slowing down for the on-ramp so just hammering it through here no rules against that speed limit 65 come on timing let's go 70 miles an hour all we can do right now adaptive cruise control on the closest drafting he's going way too slow should we go for a pass getting stuck in traffic we're just motoring through we still got people that are tailgating us but guess what we have rules we can't go more than five overs sorry everyone [Music] so we just got passed by the uh ford machi although we were in kind of a semi-truck situation so that they used it to overtake us took advantage but no worries we have 95 percent 250 miles estimated that's like the gasoline meter so um let's do a little lane change oh nice hda2 in action watch it click off the blinker oh nice but they're using blue crews which they just got last night apparently yeah pretty interesting does blue crews do lane changes i think so i don't know it's been a while since i've used it yeah all right we're gonna get going to the first supercharger hopefully this is one of the only two or three we need to go to we're going to edwards so i'm gonna start the navigation let's see it's gonna take um two almost three hours and it'll bring us down to 27 percent let's do it let's go so here in the ticon you can see we actually are at 71 miles an hour instead of 70 in a 65 and that's because here our gps meter on the phone aka waze uh shows that it's 70. so we'll take that and tycon reads under by one mile an hour here at these speeds so you'll be seeing an indicated six miles an hour over most of the day today uh allegedly because we follow all rules and regulations of the road at all times of course so we just got passed by the uh ford machi although we were in kind of a semi truck situation so that they used it to overtake us took advantage but no worries we have 95 percent 250 miles estimated that's like the gasoline meter so um let's do a little light change oh nice hda2 in action watch it click off the blinker oh nice right now we have the tesla model x on autopilot and we're looking at our navigation to go to las vegas here's the superchargers we might not hit them all but we're just planning out the route right now okay so right now our efficiency is average of 367 watt hours per mile which is the equivalent of 2.7.7 miles per kilowatt so pretty good in the rest of them passing the maki getting passed by a pontiac g6 well i mean that's the superior auto yeah it is he can stop her oh here comes here comes daddy kyle's see this is how we drain kyle's batteries off and they slow it down is he really bright checking me yeah the mockie's passing me oh my gosh he's kyle did that on purpose yep see you kyle oh we're gonna sportboat it that's it kyle we can go up to 80 right there's 80. yep there's kyle we just did five over and we're probably yeah 80 might kill our efficiency but that was worth it we got the monkey and the ioniq five all lined up i kind of slept on the speed limit situation uh yeah it jumped up to uh 75 which means we can go five over we can go 80 what am i thinking man still early in the morning we can go 81 miles an hour indicated here so let's uh pick up the pace a little bit kyle i was blocking in the ionic five there trying to not let him pass us but now there's more traffic around can't pull any stunts like that beautiful mountain views off in the distance this morning absolutely gorgeous here they go going for their pass we can't go any faster than we are right now come on porsche it's literally neck and neck we're gonna have to make some driving maneuvers here i think we go right late what do you think alyssa right lane always raley okay pull this off here we go and we're still thinking so that ticon looks good and the wheels the air wheels at speed just look like discs i love that we have both decreed that it's already more exciting than we thought it would be it's 6 15 a.m we've been driving for like 40 minutes and we have the porsche and the ioniq 5 around us we don't know where the tesla is uh who else do we have two teslas we have the model 3 and the model max and the model x they're off on their own thing um but it's actually quite exciting now we're behind the ionic 5 and the porsche's in front of us it's all sort of pacing each other it's really going to be the chargers and the charging that's the the kicker for this well the main thing is that i think is going to happen is depending on the range of that each car is getting in like how often they're going to have to charge so and and then down to the strategy so the model x driver was talking about maybe only charging two times or three times which would be phenomenal for reducing your stops but you've got to stop and go to the bathroom and that's actually not the most efficient way to stop a lot of times with an ev depending on the charging curve so who knows and then the tie can it loves to be run down to near zero and then charge very quickly at a 350 kilowatt charger but i think it's kind of interesting because not only do we have a bunch of different vehicles but we have a bunch of different drivers so every driver has a different strategy and a different vibe like i think the guy in the model x was like yeah you know casual like we'll charge we charged two or three times he seemed pretty chill um like very confident in his supercharger network and in his tesla um the guy in the onyx 5 also seems chill like he wants a comfy road trip five right kyle uh he's gunning it he's ready to go you know he's cannonball king he knows this stuff um and i think you and i we're somewhat in between like we're really excited about it but we also want to be comfortable and do some looping and i already have to go to the bathroom oh totally yeah i mean and i'm trying to try not to drink the coffee that much but it's early we haven't slept so yeah we've got different cars and different drivers different vibes it's very realistic really and so far thumbs up on blue cruise that is so weird all right so what are your predictions who do you think's going to win this journey honestly i've been hearing a lot of about the thai king i've heard a lot of people thinking that is going to win but i think we got them yeah but also like you have to map those charging stations out like i don't know if you can pre-condition and stuff but what if the chargers are broken yeah i like honestly superchargers they're really reliable i don't have to worry about anything like working if one's not working i can move to the next one i don't have to worry about paying or like let's hope there's not traffic at the chargers or traffic on the road traffic at the chargers but we're gonna hit ski traffic well it is what it is so there is a problem with the model x it has two long ranges too efficient because right now it thinks i'll get to the supercharger with 34 and earlier it was saying 27 why is this car so good it's too efficient gosh hey hey hey don't do it don't do it come on i did it at least let's be reasonable let's just go 68 all right 68 that's not reasonable and then we'll just go auto and we do have um climate control in its eco setting eco plus doesn't allow for climate conditioning so at least eco will get warm but i'm turning air conditioning off race car driver the maki is taking the hov all right we paid buck 25 uh depending on how far we're going but they got some slow traffic coming so it's looking pretty worth it already oh god the hov crew is going for it we're gonna we're gonna sneak in on this action over here okay so we'll we'll jump on that train what's up hey time in how's it going in the tesla uh lovely except that there's traffic are you in the hov no get and i don't want to charge him uh so you're gonna make him lose a race over two dollars uh well are you in the hiv we all are hyman he was not in the express lane like everyone else but he is now because peer pressure um sorry drew you might get a toll in the mail there you are here you go [Music] there we go now we're all lined up so what's your efficiency so far just out of curiosity we've tried i'm at 78 okay six last charge uh 324 ooh we're at 346. oh this thing's thirsty so yeah we are adjusting our strategy and i think we're gonna try to push to glenwood springs we'll see and um it says 163 miles 219 projected on the gasoline meter so that's a pretty good delta between those oh we're going to pass the mustang because we're going to break past the mustang oh he didn't want to he didn't want to do it yep all right now we gotta get over it so right now there's some traffic but there's an express lane and i'm paying a dollar to go like almost a speed limit she's kind of slow right now i'm unsure of time and strategy to get off the highway to meet up with drew but it must be at this exit anyway the only way they can make up time and speed is by charging so there he goes hazards to say goodbye and a little flash from us see you later time in and uh tymon will no longer be present in the video he's going back home and there's wait there's drew and alice in the miata they're doing it on the exit ramp are you kidding me they're gonna do like an f1 style pit change race knowing drew but we have to pursue pursue and eke everything out although alyssa made us turn on the climate control and it feels so much better in here yeah but everyone else has their climate control on so it's it's more than fair they took the sand out now they're transferring everything over and i can take the miata home they've all passed us now you're in last place currently drew i tried my best and then we had traffic well you're limited to five over which you're saying right yeah but we all left at the same time which was 30 minutes late keys in it keys in it tank's empty keys in it thanks empty come on good luck so everyone's just filming each other good looking car man let's see if we can see if you can do the turn no hands yeah should we do a test of how long it'll let you leave your hands off it's probably a while isn't it yeah it's it's a good distance the kia or the korean brands really let you go a long time without touching the steering wheel i could be messing around in my back seat or something or there's no there it is it was the first morning so yeah i mean that was probably like pretty good a minute yeah got a nice sunrise beautiful mountains can you imagine doing this trip the other direction just through kansas so the speed limit back there says 65 65 the car says 55. it's there's so many changing speed limits we need to be just totally laser focused to make sure we don't miss this yep speed limit 65 will the car pick it up will the car pick it up no interesting it's neck and neck up the first hill and the maki is right behind us too take a look this is very good car for filming they can't even hear us they must be listening to music [Music] [Music] it's neck and neck up the hill there's really nothing we can do it's just who can navigate traffic better and hopefully we both don't go for the middle at the same time calling drew and the tesla what's up uh so are you behind the helm now sorry are you driving yes oh yeah okay oh yeah um are you on the hill climb we're on the hill climb oh we're at exit 254 right now uh okay uh i think i'm probably a few miles behind yet uh yeah two miles behind it so are you are you gonna make it all the way to glenwood springs for your first charging stop uh i'm gonna i'm i'm looking at that now so okay yeah i don't think so we'll probably need to do edwards uh but i really haven't haven't looked yet i'm trying to get ways going and just going the speed that i think is actually 70 and uh yeah so timing was going one over so one over okay yeah and i just yeah i'm trying to get ways going so i actually know what the exact yeah sounds good we are uh yeah the ticon teetering between two and three percent arrival in glenwood springs glenwood okay yep so that's that's our move okay well thank you tyman for the uh the help this morning uh we needed to leave from denver for a few a few different reasons so uh we can actually be on this trip so yeah we're gonna try to go to glenwood springs and looks like we have a nine percent arrival at this point so uh yeah should be it should be pretty good to go to the furthest possible supercharger and uh yeah we'll see how uh see how it looks as we go through the mountains okay so patrick just did a little hop skip and a jump in front of the tie cam that's behind us um because we're coming up on our first charger we have us the thai can and the onyx 5. what if someone else is at the charger the tycoon's going to take 350. so we got to get this little jump ahead right because there should be four stalls and if one is down or in use or something like that that means who knows we could fill them all up yeah i want to get there first if possible but we're not exceeding the speed limit it went from 55 to 65 so as soon as it did i he zipped ahead and kind of surprised kyle uh by doing it really quickly so now he is blue cruising at 70. oh at 69.68 yeah we got traffic oh we got traffic okay and the speed limit is 65 so we're five miles over or less because of traffic um so we're in front of the tican and then the theonik5 is behind um i'm wondering if they're gonna play hopscotch too and zip hide with us they're still behind everyone this is fun and interesting are you hyped yet kyle's just pulled off he pulled off yeah he hopped out yeah okay so now we're good to go oh i hope they're okay oh i'm sure he's like let me get something from the trunk or whatever okay i guess we'll find out later or maybe this is a strategy and then we're gonna go back and check on them and then that's what they wanted all along we're not suspicious at all so alyssa it is 7 12 a.m on a friday which means the inside ev's podcast live is happening here momentarily which means you're gonna have to drive [Music] oh wow maybe i shouldn't hold the phone and film why don't you hold this everyone's so sideways on this thing the other way um so uh have you ever driven a tycoon you must have i thought i drove it in germany but honestly now that i think of it i don't think you ever let me drive it in germany maybe not anyway uh sounds like uh basically let me show you how you get in and drive it you so you sit over here and then you just put your foot on the brake put it in d and then to set the cruise control you just push the stock away from you and six over indicated okay well thank you you're welcome he's he's very good at thorough explanations of things i already know oh you know maybe it's pretty self-explanatory okay well let's do it then okay looks like we're good to get to glenwood springs with plenty of buffer showing nine percent now uh still got a lot of climbing to do but at these speeds we are pretty darn efficient i'm never getting this kind of efficiency uh so we confirmed our speedometer is one mile per hour slower than reality so we're doing five miles per hour over plus one okay we are pulling uh traffic is slowing down there's a chain station here okay pulling over full brakes driver change let's go quick go for it go go go go go oh we got to get a thumbnail video update we are approaching uh door actually we're at georgetown here's georgetown right here just past georgetown lake and uh mustang maki in front of us kyle just pulled off to the side of the road we don't know why i don't know this it looks like a very fast pull-off and i saw his door open really quick this is a wild mystery it's not very out of spec of him the only thing i could think of is we got so little sleep last night i wonder if he faded fast he's like alyssa you have to drive that's a possibility it's a possibility but we'll see i do have his location so i'm going to check that in a second yep you're in drive you know how to operate this machine full beans all right don't go over uh 71 you can go yep 71. well that was about the quickest driver swap we've had what do they call that chinese fire drill you should drive in the right i am going to very nice i need to adjust my mirrors i can't see that would help all right i'll reach over and help you out status update we have entered the beautiful mountainous area of frisco and we are behind the mustang and this is the exit for the first stop to charge which i don't think the mustang needs to but will they i think he's doing it he's in the turn lane we according to all of our resources need to stop and charge it's like it's really close oh look at this traffic but oh traffic this is an erection oh it's not i mean according to this it's not oh it's not yeah no it is it is a better route planner you're froze up a better round planner we just passed them i'm so sorry i'm so sorry i'm so sorry i'm not from here i'm so sorry i'm so sorry sorry sorry my mistake uh how about blinkers for thank you yeah dude this isn't the exit look 203 203. dude look how bad this is can we look at this we're at exit 203 yeah and this is like super frozen or something this is messed up see you later better outplay better uplander has an android auto app which is cool but it sucks it's terrible um so we have to go which way i don't know dude i'm frozen all right i guess i will uh oh there it is that's glenwood oh no and brandon and kyle are behind us by a couple miles drew probably just behind them we are in the tycon cruising through frisco i actually had massive connection issues oh nice revel nice sprinter do you see that alyssa oh it's beautiful look at the views up here how are you enjoying the tycoon so far uh it's nice but it does not drive well in the range mode so in range mode it's a little too stiff for you no it's too bumpy yeah too bumpy yeah okay well we're not gonna put it in comfort mode which makes this thing float like a cloud yeah because that'll cost us time and we're we're balancing between a two and three percent arrival so we're just kind of keeping with that so nice job driving appreciate it and then all the guys have pulled off here i believe the maki and the ionic five the two cars ahead of us because we had to switch to charge and we're on our way if we can be the first one here and get a 350 kilowatt charger we might just hold the lead but i think right now this puts us back in front because we are going on that full charge down to zero yeah that's the line there's the ionic five going over and we're continuing on i bet they could have made it if they stretched it yeah i don't think they have that you don't think they have the cajones all right well looks like you do we're going to keep it going oh i always do yeah you'd like to run it down to zero yeah why not yeah yeah i totally agree you paid for the battery use it except porsche gave us this car so we didn't pay for the battery well they technically what do you mean who paid for the battery though really do we know no pulling into the charger mustang's pulling in over there we're gonna find out what state of charge they're at because we're at 38 which is feels unfortunately high but we're going to uh charge up and then skip um glenwood all right we're pulling up on the charger with 102 miles of range 45 battery left let's get plugged in patrick is already on it i tried to tap and pay but it's not tapping come on tap tap tap that's all right i'll just do the plug-in charge all right there we go that's a good sound ah come on speed up speed up come on come on 80. 87 93 96. oh come on get get over come on come on come on over hungry come on hey it's cold it is really cold come on so are you sure you're going five over yes speed limit's 65 right now right exactly are you the car right behind us yes yeah well we actually had to pull over and do a driver swap so you and us we are the two in the lead right now no the only question is we don't know where the model x he's is or no we just don't have a way to track uh jordan's been keeping track of everything he needs you to share your location with him and find my friends yeah you just go to jordan's contact interview and then share location for the next 24 hours slowing down slowing down 93. hey 92 oh so we didn't get really great speeds um come on hopefully this will do should we see how the ioniq is doing it's nice with the sun out yeah it is i should have had this ready one thing i learned with these on my road trip don't plug in the car first oh start the charger first because it'll time out because it'll try to do plug and charge on the car for some reason now she's going hopefully listen to the speaker voice yes yes we did it all right what are we gonna pull cold getting at 70. 70 kilowatts 70 we're like 80 something now i can barely hold the phone without shaking though how do you win a t-shirt oh my god what's your charging or state of charge i'm a 45 you 38. 38. you guys zipped right to the front there we thought we had you so our app froze up and it said exit in half miles we're like oh this isn't our exit and then it said exit now oh that's intense all right we're at 49 i can barely feel my fingers 80 kilowatts 79 49 and not too bad we spent a dollar 24 and we've only been charging for three minutes and i'm already frozen let's go let's just go have a little a little peek at how they're doing over here they were at 30 something i've already forgotten what they said but their charger is at the rear 40 state of charge out of curiosity come on and at 70 kilowatts 71.73 74. oh am i making it go faster by being here all right so the ionic 5 is plugged into the 350 kilowatt charger and only getting 75 kilowatts or so um they got 24 minutes left until 80 percent let's go back and check ours now if i keep walking back and forth maybe i will stop freezing we're at 51 state of charge already i'm gonna have to run to the restroom 86 kilowatts that is great wow that's really good good job maki okay oh my goodness you guys the maki is doing so well that is so exciting 88 kilowatts and holding steady it uh it was like we never got a usual like 1 30 or so i mean it is really freezing here um but the fact that it's holding steady at 88 kilowatts and we have the ionic five at 75 kilowatts on the 350 and we are on a 150 so that is just great that's great i'm freezing it's very picturesque and very cold here wow the tycoon wants to do a deep charge 28 minutes so we're going to be going up to 80 percent-ish yeah 85 2 arrival so yeah we need this thing to be warm uh basically when we get closer to the charger i think we're going to take it out of range mode and go potentially into sport mode just to try to get the car to get the warmest possible battery pack that we can to get the best charging here but i can't believe it says one of four available i hope i mean good thing we're the first ccs car good luck everyone else so since we're speed limited the only opportunity to make up any time on the road is when a speed limit changes so if you're going from 55 to 65 you just want to immediately get up that you know additional five miles per hour and we've been pretty good at that but it seems like the car ahead of us has not been because we're catching them all right so i'm the only one with everyone's location and we got the mustang maki right there we are right here both charging and they pulled in with about 45 we pulled in with 38 and then kyle and drew which is the ticon and the model 3 are neck and neck right about halfway between frisco and vale they've already passed us by quite a bit and brandon is just a couple miles behind them in the model x brandon james so it's a close race with them but they're taking a different charging strategy than us changing plans i think we need to unplug and go to glenwood really yeah because a better route planner says we need above 80 to get to grand junction and we're at 70 kilowatts still still yeah oh my gosh so i think we need i don't know man what do you think the cold getting is terrible yeah do you think we should ride it out go deep here stay here 30 minutes we could see the same same charging there yeah did we go deep here and then go all the way to grand junction that's probably the more guaranteed move because glenwood does only have two chargers and if we stop there we could have the same speeds because we're still not warmed up so might as well slide it warm up here just warm up here buy dc fast charging or unplug and go and yoyo it more yeah but that didn't really help us that much yeah we didn't do very much yo you know like you gotta really really yo-yo yeah we could skip glenwood we're trying to get we're trying to escape globally now grand junction sucks because it's really far off the road yeah so that's what we're trying to skip for a junction i may try to skip grand jury we're getting 93 now which is not too bad about [Laughter] 175 miles which is three hours of driving yeah my bladder is about two hours [Laughter] it may not matter yeah and i'm doing that turns deep at glenwood skip grand junction but then you're gonna have to rely on the one that only has two operating ones in utah that one that's a must do no matter what wow i feel like we could skip it in uh if we charge them deep in grand junction i could we could skip that one potentially that's that's a scary stretch this also depends on how slow your car is because if we if we hit good speeds well once this thing warms up we're off to the races yeah it's like 200 yeah they're gonna yeah they start blasting but when it's cold so that's the thing do i just warm it up here and let it because this will warm it up better than driving it though you know so if we were talking like real road trip i feel like we don't stop with glenwood all right so we're at 32 right now uh we just passed ionic 5 like 15 minutes ago because they had to stop in charge of walmart i'm still going with my first supercharger in edwards we'll be there in 20 minutes it's ridiculously cold okay what we decided is we're gonna get 200 miles of range-ish because glenwood is 170 away the brand junction is 1.75 grand junction is 175. so this gives us wiggle room um i can barely move my lips it's so cold and that's wiggle room to account for the cold we may still pop off in glenwood and then skip grand junction but we'll need less of a charge there i don't know we'll see what do we have to get like 120 out of this 90 something 90. i thought they were coming to charge they are not see how the ionic is doing 10 minutes left until 80 they're at 104 that's nice it's uh took a second for them to warm up they're doing pretty well and threw a weight about a quarter inch from my head and that's oh we got a new software update to the maps that's good yeah what is that gonna do though well let's see what's it gonna get there with let's see now it says three percent but it wants us to charge there even longer that's very interesting so yeah i mean the car is gonna change strategy based on a whole bunch of dynamic conditions we're heading there 62 miles we have 91 miles of range but we still have some elevation to deal with um climate control running nicely and we're in range mode and you're seemingly settling into the ticon just fine oh i fit just like a glove like a glove going through veil right now could be skiing but we're driving an electric car yeah that looks pretty nasty doesn't it i see dirt that's like east coast conditions right there yeah i thought we moved to colorado for good skiing supposed to be the prime mom yeah we're past prime now anything's now just spring skiing bonus shorts and a t-shirt down the hill look how bumpy it is no i know it's gnarly that is one thing to say for the maki it is kept extremely solid the whole time uh the ionic five they were struggling to hit 70 for a good chunk of it and now they're definitely warming up but we've kept uh we went pretty fast about a hundred not as fast as we would have liked but then it has stayed around 89.90 the rest of time so if we go past 80 it'll be interesting to see what that looks like but i don't know if we will even we might be out of here before then okay we're at 79 we just figured out we have enough charge to get to grand junction but i am going to let it go go for a little bit i want to see what happens when it hits 80 percent um as we know the maki usually drops down to 11 kilowatts but we now have the update so it will not drop down to 11 kilowatts but it will slow down i think it slows down to about 43 the last time i did a test but it's cold so we'll see what happens and there it hits 80 and i don't know if you can see it it won't focus there we go so it dropped to 48 47 46 so yeah it's settling in at 46. at 80 percent i think we're going to go ahead and disconnect let me check in the car we're at 204 miles so i think that's good to go i'm going to go ahead and unplug let's go heading out yeah we're heading out we just hit 80 good luck so we have the option to go to glenwood i mean the grand junction uh but we may stop in glenwood if we need a bathroom sounds good see you guys i'll see you somewhere we are getting close to 80 on our end two minutes left to 80 finally went above 120. all right we're bathroom breaking 80 percent 105 miles our range has increased so would we like to recalculate chargers all right we are sending it sending it just hit yeah 79. it's about 99. the gum says we got like a 60 mile buffer so i think it's more than good piece of cake so we're heading straight to grand junction they're stopping at glenwood springs most likely we're not sure they're not sure yet hopefully hopefully for our sake we can't get last we could not get lost we were hoping for a solid second yeah we're talking off camera i think it'd be really interesting we did this trip exactly like this in the summer when our car does not cold gate we are out of here they're probably not too far behind us and i'm going to go ahead and turn off the heat okay because the car is pretty toasty right now yeah it feels great that was super frosty outside all right so model 3 model x and tycon are all neck and neck and they're approaching edwards which i think is probably the tesla charger well i don't know if there's a tesla charger there but i don't know if it's one that they'll use so we'll see if any of them stop we should know in the next few minutes um but they're all really close together kyle is pushing on to glenwood so see uh i mean i know he'll make it but we'll see how his charging speed is and also how uh yeah how far he goes after that we'll see if he stops in grand junction or he continues onward but we're just going to go straight to grand junction yeah i'm straight there how long was that charging session no just looking at that 24 24 55 so yeah 25 minutes that was our charging not yeah with our speeds pulling in was rough so well hopefully this battery stays warm we might rubber band it more on the next uh charger and we should have enough range to do just that yep so we left pretty much with the mustang they did get a head start on us on the highway but they are way up there and i feel like they're pulling on us and we're doing exactly five over gps verified so yeah i don't know something could be fishy is blue crews saying the speed limit is like 70 and he's going 75. blue cruise is like shh we won't tell if you want to be quiet oh this is such a beautiful drive out here okay so we just made it to the tesla superchargers and there's another tesla charging check that out we got the tesla model 3 just ahead we are here in the porsche tycon we're both arriving into glenwood springs with a single digit percent state of charge but supercharger there at least is 120 125 kilowatts you know what we can charge at 270. so while he might be a little bit more efficient we can just smoke him with charging i mean assuming we can get this thing to charge at 270 kilowatts yeah that is that is a huge thing there's only two available stations in glenwood springs two offline and someone's using one right now so we should be able to get it and it is the 350 kilowatt that's open but who knows what's going to happen by the time we get there could be a disaster we'll see loving today's driving though absolutely beautiful here's brandon making a tick tock about his tesla but we just got to the supercharger and we're about to plug in he just has to film it for tick-tock look at the wrap so i only have about four supercharged stops left and i'll get there tonight and plug it in all right so we're charging right now it says about 12 minutes we're currently at 30 percent and our charge rate is 250 kilowatts look 900 miles per hour okay supercharging done we need to go go go go go go unplug quick quick quick we gotta go we gotta wait race to win go go go okay so we just left the supercharger and now our next supercharging destination is 137 miles away are you ready we're gonna make it oh yeah we're definitely gonna make it and we're gonna win yeah we're ahead of some people right now we're gonna win hey alyssa so we need to talk strategy here um i'm thinking it's 20 miles to the charger our battery's at 86 degrees fahrenheit average temperature thankfully the porsche gives you all of the data which is really nice right here on the instrument cluster i think we take it out of range mode put it into sport mode which really doesn't affect the range too much because it no longer does the rear axle disconnect yes i knew that yeah and um maybe it will just make the preconditioning logic a bit more aggressive so usually the only problem with coming in with a really hot battery down low when we need to do a deep charge is you don't want to overheat the battery throughout the charging process but thankfully this car is pretty good cooling where it can pretty much manage itself especially in 32 degree temps it's a hot day maybe i wouldn't take the same strategy not a hot day exactly 32. so let's take it out of range mode into sport and let this thing get as warm as it needs to get for this charging session sport mode activated you hit the button down here and uh yep so 16 state of charge and it's already trying to warm up you can see it going 86 87 and that's just what it's going to do and hopefully walk its way up to about 90 or so yeah sport mode says one percent arrival one percent means we can still make it sweet we're still just pacing with drew checking in with the updates of everyone's location me and zach are driving through vail right now as we speak beautiful gorgeous beautiful veil mustang is just ahead of us i think still hammer right there somewhere up there um and actually just ahead of us is brandon brandon i think stopped in avon at the supercharger there drew did not which is interesting uh because brandon has more range i'm pretty positive yeah so interesting early stop i don't think he stopped long because he already stopped and left um kyle and drew are neck and neck approaching glenwood not there yet but they're now stopping clinton yeah kyle will be stopping glenwood i don't remember if there's a supercharger there but if there is drew's probably gonna stop there too please monitor range one percent arrival sport mode just to warm up the battery pack beautiful views through here are you getting off of this exit up here yes same here but i think ours is closer to the highway i don't really know yeah i'm sure i'm sure it will be yeah i don't know why the car is predicting a three percent arrival if we're only two miles away what state of charge are we at twelve percent what oh i'm dumb it's i was reading the wrong thing this is three percent into vegas it's nine percent here oh haha uh yeah because we when we use the tycon stuff we always just put in charger to charger i've never used trip planner before all right stop signs are just a suggestion we have way more battery than i thought we would so you gotta rip it slam on the brakes rip it right up to the speed limit they're just a suggestion you don't need to stop right by the police station go don't fall we gotta make this thing happen this one's fine off the highway any faster right now in front of us yeah we can do it 25 right up to 30. that's faster than 30 alyssa you're still faster than 30. you got it it doesn't do off throttle regen like the tesla does yeah it's not one pedal porsche's strategy is to do it with the brake pedal here we are pulling into the glenwood springs electrify america station let's get it on over we gotta find the one working 350 kilowatt station according to the app two are down and one is in use but i don't see any card here yeah the app can be wrong all right we're pulling into the glenwood sparring supercharger and plugging in excuse me people make a u-turn so we gotta find the 350s usually they're in the center at these types of installations and the answer is yes in the center all right you got to park it out it's in the front just block all the chargers that would be an interesting tactic all right perfect stop stop perfect all right [Music] okay so it says the chargers offline but it's very clearly available on the screen here maybe it just doesn't have connectivity uh plugging in let's activate it with the app it does have plug-in charge but the porsche app and everything thinks this charger is down so let's see if we can get it going redwood springs number three available what does it say here can't read these dang things it's just black that's not it says electrify america that's about it okay hold on i just initiated plug in first work this is what's going to hold this up here it says plug in first it literally is plugged in come on [Music] and charging come on come on come on there we go all right ramping up okay plug yeah the station's not recognizing that the car is being plugged in it's probably right is that one available [Music] yeah uh-huh no yes we gotta it's just no no communication on this handle all right get that handle pulled out on the right side [Music] i can't with left hand [Music] all right let's see plugged in will this one work this thing says it's still initiating charging for that charger which had no recognition so my app's bricked until this times out this says it's connecting the vehicle and if i go to the porsche app to activate the charger because again this one's number two here we go start charging it can in theory plug in charge but this is quicker it says good it says connecting the vehicle let's go baby come on we need 270 kilowatts things are clicking initiating charging come on [Music] see at the tesla supercharger i bet drew's just going to go plug and then it's going to charge and we're just messing around with all this [Music] we're charging 138 kilowatts hop in there take a look at the screen and we blocked the ionic guy from coming here too oh no now we're not charging [Music] what on earth here we are trying to showcase ccs works and it's and it says please unplug [Music] let's try it again let's try it again so unlocking i'm gonna pre-activate the charger this time okay pull this up what number is it number two so i'm gonna go here combo ccs number two it still thinks it's occupied but there's someone there start charging so it's sending the signal we're gonna wait now it says please plug in so payments process has been taken care of so we're bypassing plug and charge we've already got payment authentication in the car come on and then we have to let each other talk to each other for 45 seconds or so cable cooling on initiating charging car what does it say if you click the battery in the screen here what are we getting 139 that's not very good oh 2 39. now we're talking now we're talking hell yeah this is how we win we get the fast charging that's the fastest charging speed you'll see on any car well maybe the teslas will do 250 but as pac voltage comes up a bit we should see 270 around 50 because these are still limited to 350 amps so the tycon can technically do about 270 kilowatts here or at least a little bit closer uh but these chargers are just amperage limited but on with an 800 volt car it's not as big of an issue 250 kilowatts right into this thing okay i got to use the bathroom quick update we're in the canyon heading down towards uh linwood springs kyle and drew are stopped at goodwood springs i saw on the map that they're both pulled off at the tesla supercharger for drew electrify america for kyle kyle's ripping it at 250 kilowatts and uh yeah that's uh that's we're angry we should have stopped back there i think we probably could have made it but the car was telling us it could i better ralph player was telling us we couldn't so we just played it safe but i think uh i don't know a little bit close just checked and brandon just passed glenwood wow yeah kyle and drew are still charging there so brandon is now in first place overtaking the original drew and kyle first place they were in first place for a while um so we'll see how long that lasts i'm not sure what brandon's actual state of charge is or where he's planning on charging but this will be did he stop pretty early i think he stopped at avon so he probably went real deep yeah i think that's a strategy yeah he that would be interesting honestly i kind of want the model x to win yeah mostly because this one kyle does not win but kyle's looking pretty good right now as far as time yeah yeah i think that icon is going to be the winner here that thing is so good that's what that's my choice of car yeah but you never know that model x i mean if he's actually getting 300 miles of range i mean yeah i don't know yeah well alyssa i think we're in the lead i've been checking on the tycon through the app what first of all what is this this is not the competitive spirit that we need here it is needy that dehydrated okay this is ridiculous this is called health and also what kind of snacks did you get anything healthy yeah trail mix okay so tycon's charging i think it was literally a few minutes and i think we're almost ready to go that's the beauty of this car so we just rushed the shopping trip inside of target we're going to give ourselves a competitive disadvantage with this water and uh what i'd like to do is maybe look at our next charging stops and figure out our plan because if we can skip grand junction that would be awesome because grand junction is like three or four miles off the highway it sucks so we just passed everyone in glebewind springs because we got enough charge in edwards so now we're just going straight to grand junction so we have charging only i think for 13 or 14 minutes you have 14 minutes and added 52 kilowatt hours it's still doing 160 kilowatts at i don't even know what state of charge we're at it doesn't show me um let's see 70 almost 69 doing 160 kilowatts pretty good um anyway that's not too slow we we smoked drew since we're here i think we just see if we can stretch it to green river and skip grand junction let's see if we can do it okay well you can see the battery pack's getting nice and toasty 125 that's pretty good we want to go here to plug share and network error i think one of the reasons this station has a lot of issues like that charger doesn't show as offline but in the app it does is i think there's just weird cell service connectivity stuff going on here but thankfully we had a great charging session after a bit of kerfuffle getting it started kerfuffle how would you describe it i don't know oh look the porsche wants to go to green river what i think we're going to do is not use the charging planter look i can't even load plug share here oh wait here we go so here's grand junction and here's green river jordan is giving us updates they're they're coming into glenwood springs now wow we really gotta go okay um green river utah apple maps we lose elevation to green river but after green river it's pretty crazy 186 miles to get there we have 186 miles projected we should wait for it yeah we'll give ourselves a little bit of a 10 mile buffer at least and then i checked if we check on the stations in green river to see what's working zach told us that this one had some stuff going on so definitely should skip grand junction just so you can see look how far off the highway it is it's like way down in grand junction not off the highway it's a disaster and then green river let's take a look this one's interesting because it's off the highway but it's at least on this road that you can take the whole way around it shows as one 350 kilowatt station available and two other stations offline so two of four stations are available and we have three ccs cars that all have to stop there unless zach's planning something to skip it maybe that's a big stretch you better be prepared for crazy elevation after mhm so i guess we'll charge up here to 80 give ourselves some buffer another four percent and hit the road i agree cool so i've just programmed into green river electrify american station it's pretty easy you just tap on it on the map it says we'll get there at seven percent we should go we're tapered down to what speed 86 kilowatts yikes this thing charges so fast we barely had time to do anything right though but we have good news yes look how perfect kyle's salsa fits it's like the car's made for me all right let's do this thing all right the guys are coming in on the highway through the section only a few miles back we're gonna try and keep the lead i don't know if they have enough juice to pass the station we're a little bit off the highway too so let's go unplugging got the stats we added 65 kilowatt hours in i don't know but we can check the stuff later on let's just reset our trip should have done this before come on um i don't know oh uh 348 watt hour per mile to get here three hours 44 minutes we did 218.6 miles on the charge well it's a race between the model x and the ticon everybody else is just right behind us right behind us but they have to charge so well they have to charge in grand junction which is where the model x has to charge too but the model x didn't have to take the frisco stock right so that's where big range is helpful cheers cheers all right so almost done charging next stop green river utah says a four percent buffer on arrival we're gonna get that up to maybe about 10 and probably leave when that's gonna say five minutes remaining or something like that um new car so don't really not really dialed into it yet but uh yeah if we can cut it a little closer and save some time as we go on and learn we will do that what is your status uh we are i think pretty much ready to go very nice just don't want to leave too early and be wrong so what's your plan you skip in grand junction yeah yes because we're going the speed limit exactly that was our plan so we charged in exactly 14 minutes and we are pretty much been on the road for a while oh wow yeah so uh taikon uh tycoon is winning well i think uh we'll see it's starting to freak out it's showing things are not available and now it's fine i just had a little mini heart attack for some reason i don't think it they thought i was touching the wheel i don't know oh look over there what's that there's cows i see cows i love cows they just make me happy so situation update going through some beautiful canyons here wow we live in a gorgeous place here in colorado don't we this is just absolutely stunning um we have a six percent projected arrival i thought it was funny the whole first leg of the trip i'm referencing this number that's what the car is trying to get us to vegas with um you know tip this is my typical way of road tripping which is you know let me figure out the charger i want to go to and then look here so that's the number that we can look at now that's six percent to green river the problem with green river is there's one working 350 kilowatt station and there's one working 150 kilowatt station we will be the first ccs car to green river so awesome uh the big question is the model x i have no idea where brandon is at all and we don't have his location on a map and if he is in grand junction and he can go from grand junction to st george or grand junction to somewhere draper utah somewhere over there then that model x may have a chance of really smashing this thing even though he's at the slow uh charger now this route i really liked because it showcases the best and worst of both networks you'll hit the brand new version three superchargers with 250 kilowatt charging and liquid-cooled handles but then you'll also get some of the old legacy hardware like uh grand junction like glenwood springs that are version two before they were even updated to 150 kilowatts back when they were 120 and the case with electrify america these stations aren't all in working order across the way uh my understanding is there's a part shortage to get parts to fix the stations that they've installed of course electrify america just um came out with the announcement that they're creating their own hardware which i'm really excited to test and that might just be the key to all of this um but you know even though we have faster charging here with the ticon you saw it there there's still some you know negotiations you gotta have with the station and it's much easier when you're the only car there if it was me zach and patrick all rolling up at the same time in our three ccs cars it would have been a total disaster us trying to move around each other yeah well anyway that's that's what we're doing now it's still early days for eevee road tripping i'm not saying eevee is the best for everyone gas car still the quickest i enjoy the eevee stuff because you just never know what's gonna happen it's kind of an adventure don't you think alyssa yeah yeah gives you a good time to tunnel there we go here we go we can't drive fast because we're stuck at five over all right we're pulling into the supercharger at grand junction it says there's only two available but i see a lot so this won't be as bad actually hey hey so uh what what's going on over there just plugging in at glenwood not glenwood um grand junction oh take a look at this plane coming out that's so cool um yeah we are just about to pass grand junction oh really yep and so we are uh yeah there's like a fire fighting plane i think that's what that is take a look yeah it's a water plane yeah water plane that's awesome uh yeah so we're a few miles outside of grand junction do you know what your charging stops are you going to go to green river or are you going to skip green river um so my next one yeah green river and then ridge field okay so we're heading direct to green river right now okay so i'll be i'll be like on board in 15 minutes well that's gonna be the plan your goal is to like leave hopefully before we cross into grand junction which i think we're about 10 15 minutes away or so okay yeah yeah that should be perfect but that's a pretty slow charger there are you having to share stalls with anyone no it's actually it's empty i saw i'm at 111 111 that's about all that thing will do because it's max out at 120. yeah and yeah because i i said the only two charges available on the screen so i was kind of worried that there would just be a ton of people here but yeah there's literally just a model y pulling off to grand junction just behind the maki looks like brandon is here in grand junction we are sending it to the charger stuff's flying everywhere and we are at 16 state of charge gosh [Laughter] we are about to pull up at the grand junction charger at the sam's club and it's a much different story than it was uh this morning patrick's really getting it but it is 56 degrees it was like close to 20 last time we were charging so um hopefully the machi pulls in and starts sucking up some charge but the ionic 5 could do the same and could really pull ahead so i feel like this charging stop could be really telling about how the rest of the race is going to go or yeah lisa's segment and who knows what they got to charge to and what they're coming in at um it might be interesting they may need more charge but get there faster they might we are at 18 percent um oh he's cutting through he cut through the parking lot oh wow all right pulling in we have a mustang maki gt performance very nice but he's taking up a 350 kilos one more charger so we're gonna take the remaining 350 kilo charger and hope for good speeds let's see good efficiency coming we got like 3.5 or something like that yeah yeah ours dropped down eventually but let's see what our charging speeds [Music] [Music] 113 115. we need double that gt performance good spec from washington so he's also on a road trip but yeah taking the 350. that's a bad move i mean tightly was the only one here but uh still well one of two tycoons have pulled in or two ionics i feel like new ev owners my wife said this on a road trip new ev owners they just assume 350 is going to be the fastest no matter what yep it's just numbers yeah it's just bigger numbers better yeah that's what they immediately assume that's why we need more uh more knowledge in the world exactly okay guys right now we are supercharging in grand junction we have about five minutes left and our average efficiency was actually 285 watt hours per mile which is also known as 3.5 miles per kilowatt so we're doing pretty good we got our wheat thin snacks and we got our bangs and we are doing good yeah kyle just called me uh apparently they just passed us but we might be able to catch them with the next stop so it's gonna be a tight race so we better leave as soon as this is done charging okay it's time our trip is done let's go let's go let's go quick unplug unplug go go go all right go go go in the car in the car go close door closed door let's go run run run run for it so who was the instigator what of that little that little cutting corner right there oh yeah yeah yeah that was awesome 18. i got my water you got to make sure you stay hydrated okay stay hydrated this man's focusing 90. they're getting 90 kilowatts we haven't started yet come on come on come on this really is the battle of the cars now [Music] processing payment take our money okay now we're gonna be exiting the state of colorado heading into green river utah where we're gonna end up with 13 charge currently we're at 46 charge so let's hope we can make it we got this they're at 17 already uh 118 kilowatts which is good good i feel like they should be speeding up beyond that can you see hopefully 118. 23 minutes left until 80. uh yeah yeah and patrick is trying to tap and pay what problems are we having trying again oh i did it i got it processing payment [Music] come on hey oh payment decline you hear that we're heading to utah well this one's doing fine come on [Music] it's got it it's just connecting the vehicles uh okay come on come on come on like 10 minutes in authorized okay so he swiped his credit card that's what you did right i'm not sure what price it got [Music] they are probably 20 minutes to 80. are they going to 80 actually don't know 19 percent we're at 123 kilowatts nice yeah we're good to go yeah hey what's up how goes it with the maki life uh we're in grand junction we just started charging um i had a couple of payment declines because i was trying to swipe and tap and everything besides plug and charge um but we're doing pretty good diamond started charging like two minutes before us well and it charges really fast so uh is this your first charging stop uh a second we stopped in frisco ah frisco well only just because we had to use the bathroom so i was like we might as well use get some charges yeah that makes sense yeah okay we're strategizing we see them checking out our car let's see how they're doing right here go go go go go we hit 59 close enough close it up all right how's everyone doing they're out of here green river say hi to amy yeah bye maybe we're debating 102. [Applause] we could we could skip it we're only 43 though but what if it keeps going fast to 90. status update first of all this is why grand junction sucks to charge out because you have to drive through half the entire town and get to the charger plus it was a sam's club parking lot with horrendous traffic and it's friday morning so not quite the weekend but sort of just depends who you are now you know why people skipped grand junction yep so kyle skipped grand junction very clever um but we stopped brandon stopped drew is also skipping grand junction so drew just passed us he is now in third place and uh but we left the mustang monkeys still had 40 we had charged the 60 so we are going to take advantage of this head start and get to green river we have quite a buffer 100 miles to get there 160 almost on the gesso meter so we just hit 59 percent a better route planner said we needed to hit 58 percent the car said to hit 55 to make green river uh so i'm gonna go ahead if i can get back to the screen i'm gonna go ahead and hit stop and we're gonna go to green river i thought about trying to skip print green river but i think it'll take too long to charge and we'll probably need a bathroom break there after that i think uh some of the advantage uh that the infive is gonna have for the warm battery may be offset by hopefully some of our efficiency so it's i might have to hit stop on the car instead because it's gone through the stupid laggy ea screen yeah this one is being weird it keeps popping up this uh pricing screen it's odd all right all done let's get out of here [Music]
