so we recently got new leaks from mors Law's Dead who is a popular leaker with a bit of a hit or miss track record with regards to accuracy however after his leaks from yesterday on his YouTube channel we did see that Tom Henderson over at Insider gaming did corroborate his reporting regarding the code named Trinity PlayStation 5 Pro we learned a bit more about its capabilities both in rasterization Ray tracing its use of machine learning and implementation of AI and a new upscaling technology they're calling pssr and a bit of some of the features we might expect to see so uh rendering is said to be 45% faster than the PS5 which that's rendering so it's not that we're going to see nearly 50% increased FPS than what we might expect to see on the PlayStation 5 right now just that in GPU limited situations games where the graphics portion of the PlayStation 5 Apu is the limiting factor you could see up to 45% increases that also applies to the next statistic which was two to three and sometimes four times the performance in R tracing situations now personally I've never been much of a stickler for R tracing it's cool I think the Quake 2 demo from back in the day where R tracing was added was pretty nice but and same with the portal RTX demo that we saw on PC last year but for me R tracing is a bit superflous I'm fine with screen space Reflections and traditional lighting implementations um but it is nice to see that they do have this increased potential I'm sure there will be at least some games that take advantage of it that make this uh quite interesting uh moving on the Tera flop of this are at 67 at 16bit now for comparison the Xbox series X is at 12 Tera flops but that's floating Point 32 not 16 so you can sort of divide this and you'll get your 33 and a half to be comparable to the Xbox so this is about three times the computational power in with regards to Tera flops in 33 and A2 versus say the 12 and the series X this is sort of a meaningless number personally it gives sort of some context but until we sort of see it in games I'm hesitant to sort of give this number really any any value outside of the theoretical potential the cell processor back in the PS3 was supposed to be incredibly powerful and it certainly did materialize just some very beautiful looking games and more so than the 360 in some cases but I don't believe there was ever a time where I saw a PS3 game and thought to myself like wow this must have been only possible thanks to the cell theoretical potential is great but actual implementation I think is what counts for people uh and for everyday users who might actually be purchasing this thing for playing games which is the primary purpose the next thing is a bit more interesting so they're detailing is called pssr which is PlayStation spectral super resolution upscaling back during the PS4 Pro we had something called checkerboarding which was a bespoke method for upscaling what would have been less than 4K resolutions up to 4K for 4K TVs and it worked pretty well I mean you could definitely tell you sort of see where the checkerboarding was occurring if you stopped and sort of took a look and I'm sure if you had watched enough checkerboarded games versus true 4K You' be able to notice the difference similar to how you can not noce games running at 4k on PC where dlss or FSR is implemented at various degrees be it quality or performance you can certainly probably train yourself to look at that and notice it but when you're on a TV maybe 7 ft away I would be surprised if most people can actually tell the difference this is pretty interesting especially because checkerboarding only really appeared on the PS4 Pro as a rendering technique for upscaling uh this pssr is supposed to be more scalable and it's supposed to be able to be used as a sort of futureproof methodology for say maybe the PlayStation 6 or consoles thereafter where this kind of Technology could be used to allow upscaling so I like to see this sort of forward thinking it's very interesting to see that they're going to embrace this if you're familiar at all with dlss or FSR or even xss for Intel on PC you'll know that these kind of upscaling Technologies can dramatically improve frame rates and you do take a hit to image quality but at least with dss3 and FSR 3 those technologies have gotten quite sophisticated and quite good at replicating high resolution images without being as noticeable that they're implemented versus what they used to be in their previous iterations so very interesting to see this happening and then they talked about support for 8K which I mentioned in my last video was this is sort of corroborated with the previous reporting from Insider gaming uh last year I don't think akk is going to be that impactful for this product I don't think most people have 8K TVs I don't think they're very cheap to buy I don't think 8K is very interesting as far as like a feature set it'll be nice in the future where say maybe in you know 6 years or 5 years r k TVs are is as sort of proliferated as 4K TVs are now that this kind of thing will be available but as far as the here and now I don't expect any game to really run at 8K unless it's something like maybe a Castlevania re-release or some kind of 2D game I could see 8K being interesting sort of you know an 8K image super sample on a 4K TV could be quite enjoyable to look at but not expecting many developers to take advantage of that and then the reporting does mention an AI accelerator now I don't know exactly what they're anticipating using AI with there's not really many details on that Tom Henderson did respond regarding the AI aspect of this device that the AI stuff is exciting and that developers had said to him that they are working on some controversial stuff related to that no idea what that means exactly but I'm sure we'll find out in due time there's been a lot of consternation among developers and sort of the Zeitgeist around how much implementation should there be of AI in art like games obviously games for some people are just Commodities and products and for other people they're art and for some people they're both personally I wouldn't want to see too much of AI with regards to like the creative aspect of things but I'm sure there are ways to utilize Ai and machine learning in impactful ways for say the way computer controlled NPCs behave in a game it'll be interesting to see just what they're able to use this sort of AI engine for it's still being reported that it's slated for this fall I don't know if it's just because of all the numbers flying around but this is starting to seem less and less like a device that is going to cost anything less than $600 and actually I wouldn't be surprised if maybe it's now 700 just considering how expensive it must be to develop this kind of midgen refresh with this much technology and this much power behind it I don't know how well that's going to go you would expect that a purchaser of this device is going to be one of your most dedicated and one of your most Enthusiast grade consumers so there's probably a lot of wiggle room they have on how much they can charge for something like this and I'm sure Sony will probably take a loss on it regardless unless they're charging maybe 800 plus for the device I think I would buy one at maybe $600 or $700 PlayStation is my main platform at the moment it's hard to say based on the limited information we have about what the feature set will be uh Tom did mention men in one of his other tweets regarding this that it seems like there's not going to be very much first party output later this year so you do have to wonder just how well it's going to go over if they're trying to launch this device with say no first-party titles and only say partner thirdparty titles that take advantage of the AI accelerator inside the device along with the increased computational uplift from this device so still very interesting really excited to see what this ends up being really curious to see how they're going to unveil the device I don't think they're going to wait till the Showcase I would imagine they're going to do their own Standalone event uh I think I know last time we got a full presentation with Mark cery detailing a lot of the different details around this console so I'm sure we'll learn more at a standalone event later this year hopefully before the Showcase but I'm not holding my breath that's going to do it for me guys thanks again for watching and I'll see you in the next one
