mod organizer 2 is by far the most feature-rich and extensive mod manager for any Bethesda title this will be the most simplest and easy guide to installing mod manager 2 and as a bonus I'll be installing a mod to show you the basics of how the program functions before we get started let's go over some requirements and notes for mod organizer 2 to work properly we should make sure that we have the visual studio 2019 redistributable to make sure we have this click the link in the description and then click the bottom link here once that installs open the.exe and you should see something like this install this like you would any other program but if you already have it installed like you see I have here you'll see uninstall and repair just click repair if you've done any previous modding to Star Fields such as using Vortex then I'd recommend a complete clean reinstore Starfield or just go to your library right click star Field properties installed files and then click verify Integrity of game files this will make sure that star field is not corrupt or missing files I would also recommend launching the game once and making sure everything works perfectly this is where you would usually download mod organizer 2 but as of recording this video starfield's support is in its early stages therefore we will be downloading this tool from the official Discord once you have entered the mod organizer 2's Discord server on the left head over to Dev builds scroll all the way down to the bottom and here you'll see the latest beta build of mod organizer 2. simply click the second link which is the installer once this opens up hit download and then download anyway once it's downloaded simply open it click I accept and next this is the directory that mod organizer 2 will be placed what I do and what I suggest you do as well is make sure all of these folders are super organized so to do this we're going to be changing this directory the only place that you should not be installing mod organizer 2 is in Windows protected files such as program files or programs files 86 you should also not be installing it to any game directory for me I'm going to be changing this from the C drive to a dedicated modding drive so to do this click browse close down the C drive open up the drive that you would like to install it to for me I'm going to be installing it to my f Drive make a folder inside this drive and call it anything you like for Simplicity I'm going to be calling it modding then inside this modding folder click make a new folder and call this anything you'd like I'm going to be calling it mod organizer 2. now click OK and as you can see the file directory has now changed click next and I would recommend leaving this as is and just pressing next again next and install now leave this box ticked and click finish so now we can begin setting up mod organizer 2 for Star field because we didn't uncheck the box mod organizer will load up and we'll see this menu right here click next and you can either create a portable instance or a global instance so a portable instance is One Singular in-store of mod organizer that can manage a single game this will mean that you will need to install mod organizer as portable on every single game that you want to mod whereas Global instance is one installation of mod organizer 2 that can manage multiple games at once there are occasions where portable instances are great but in this case we're going to be selecting Global instance here you'll see some games that is detected and you should see Starfield here if not click browse and go to where Starfield is installed so for me I have Starfield on my H Drive steam Library steam apps common Starfield select folder here you can customize the name if you want I'm not going to and now we select a folder where the data should be stored this is where mod organizer is going to store the majority of the stuff such as mods I'm going to do something very similar here to what I did when I installed mod organizer 2 and that is place it on a separate Drive instead of the C drive so to do this I click the three dots here and then I head over to that drive that I place mod organizer on earlier I click on that modding folder again and here you can see the installation of mod organizer 2. I'm going to right click and create a new folder and I'm going to be calling this mod organizer 2 instances inside this instances folder I'm gonna make another folder and I'm going to call this one star field this is so if I install any other games let's say for example I'm gonna also mod Fallout 4 then I would create another folder in here and I would call it Fallout 4 but for now we're just modding Starfield left click this star field folder and click select folder in the bottom right now the next step we need to tick this show Advanced options here this is the specific drive that it will be installing downloads mods profiles and the overwrite folder this percentage-based directory percentage means that it will be installing into this drive at the top this is fine except for two the mods and overwrite folder should preferably be where the game is installed this is purely for Speed if you've already put this instance on the same drive as your game or on a speedy drive then this probably won't apply to you but the F drive that I've been mentioning this whole time that has all my mod organizer 2 stuff so far is a very slow hard drive therefore I'm going to change the mods and overwrite directories to the Speedy SSD drive that also has my Starfield game so I'm going to click the three dots next to mods then I'm going to head over to my H Drive now in here I'm going to create a new folder and call this mod organizer 2 mods and over I'm going to go inside this folder and just create two separate files that say mods and overwrite I'm going to select mods and click select folder and then I can just come down to overwrite click the three dots and select the overwrite folder so now to recap I have mod organizer 2 installed to my super slow hard drive which is the F Drive I also have the instances folder in here as well but I've changed mods and overwrite to my H Drive which is not only my more fast SSD drive but is also the drive that Starfield has installed to now finally that I've explained all of that let's press next and click finish mod organizer 2 will Now launch if you see this pop-up here just press yes all this means is that when you're browsing Nexus mods and you hit the mod manager download button it will open mod organizer and install the mod through that now that we're inside mod organizer let's go over a few settings that I recommend tweaking head over to this tools icon up here and then click update to beta version make sure both of these are ticked I would also recommend ticking compact list all this does is make the download list a little bit more tidier by making everything shorter this is especially useful when you're downloading a ton of mods next I recommend changing the theme so that you're not constantly flashbanged there are a ton of styles to choose here the one I would recommend is vs15 dark press ok to apply this also go over to the Nexus page and just make sure that you're connected to Nexus if you aren't it's just as simple as pressing connect to Nexus here and then logging into your Nexus account now that we've done all that let's go over installing your first mod with Mod organizer 2. let's start with something super simple if you haven't seen my video on Star UI then check it out in the link in the description or using the card in the top right I've said this before in my previous modding tutorial guide but it's super important that you read the description of every mod every mod is different and some mods might have completely different installation steps to others or have conflicts with mods that you already have installed the reason I've picked this mod though is that it's probably the most simplest mod to download at the moment just click files there is only one file to choose from click mod manager download slow download and then you might see a prompt at the top of Google asking if you want to open mod manager simply click yes and then if you open mod manager and go over to downloads you will see Star UI here has the status of downloaded right click this and click install this is what's known as a faux mod all it is is simply a set of options that you can choose from depending on what you want to install so for example mod manager we're obviously going to be selecting mod organizer 2 and then you can choose what FPS you install star UI if you're installing star UI I would recommend 60fps here press next and install now all you need to do is check the box and that will mean that you have installed your first mod of mod organizer 2. you will also see because I have Starfield script extender already installed it has already made me a tool here that I can simply click run from if you want to know how to get at the script extender then head over to the link in the description that will take you to my modding guide for Starfield this will teach you all about enabling Starfield for modding but for now this is the basics of getting mod organizer to set up and how to install your first mod with it if you have had any problems whilst installing mod organizer 2 then simply comment below and I will do my best to help you out but now that you have mod organizer 2 set up it's time to install mods so why not head over to this video where I talk about star UI inventory and how great it is or this video where I go over the 10 must-have mods for Starfield [Music]
