The Paldean Pokemon they WANT you to Forget! 🦩🐦🏗️

every single generation of Pokemon has had their uh under baked designs or like Pokemon that seem like filler on purpose you know like they were made to be forgotten in a couple gens Think Like Love disk and comfy yeah both fit their regions perfectly but like afterwards uh or like quill fish nobody fought a single think about quailfish until Legends Arceus finally spiced it up tranquil chat hot seal finian and Pokemon Scarlets and violet continues with this even doubling down on non-evolving bird Pokemon like think about sigilant it's Unique it cool halucha hell yeah Skarmory more like scar marry me flamingo FL flamigo it's a flamingo Bombardier yeah that's that's the baby delivering stork but it drops rocks instead squawka Billy you mean chadot too they are all over the region they are the loading screen and yet I just know that nobody will remember them in a couple of generations and maybe that's the idea they're just filler birds I mean they do fit the region they're in aldea but I don't really think they have staying power but regardless of that we've been talking a lot about bird Pokemon on this channel lately and these three are on today's menu let's go over and explain the design origins of the three paldean bird Pokemon they want you to forget we'll start with flamingo [Music] flamigo from yeah that was right flamigo you know simpler Pokemon that are just kind of an animal that is so cheap there is already something in it foreign that are just kind of an animal or a thing with one little add-on to its design it's nothing new I mean who could forget the classics caterpillar goldfish is actually a coin seal pigeon pigeon again pigeon a third time even if you wanted to stretch the definition of a pigeon but at least those pigeons evolve in fact then they couldn't really pack details into tiny little Game Boy Sprites so they had to be simpler but game freak really dared to release a regular flamingo in 2022 even it doesn't like it but honestly I kinda respect him for it now before we begin the Deep explanation of our Spanish Flamingo friend you should know amigo is Spanish for friend so yes it is simply a flamingo friend a lot of Pokemon fans have wanted a flamingo Pokemon for decades since it's such a unique bird so unique that they really can just make it a Pokemon outright right and no one will complain because they're super cool Birds right hey God can I copy your homework yeah okay oh yeah this is mine now though as you'd expect with me talking about it and all there's plenty of references hidden under the wing of this one my favorite question is always what is a flamingo doing in an Iberian inspired region well Spain is home to two species of the bird the greater and lesser Flamingo the former is the most common within the Iberian Peninsula yes but its feathers are mostly white not exactly that iconic pink flamingo color but it does make a great fit for flamigo's shiny color but the Lesser Flamingo on the other hand is much closer to what we'd expect a flamingo to look like even down to the darker Wing band but here's the thing really it's just that this quote unquote greater Flamingo really Falls flat pretty much every other species of flamingo matches the pink feathers we'd expect and arguably to a greater degree in fact it's the American Flamingo that possibly matches the closest even down to the yellow eye and pale beak yeah this seems to be the perfect match and given how widespread American culture is it makes sense that if you're going to make a flamingo Pokemon you might as well base it on the most popular and well-known flamingo this iconic sculpture was first designed by Dawn Featherstone in 1957. you can see their influence in flamigo's design from the weird ground stake legs to the unnaturally rounded Bill like yes real flamingos do have this exaggerated lower mandible shape because it helps them with Filter feeding but even then it has a rigid squarer shape you'd more so expect from nature and flamigo just has this sort of artificial plastic Aura to it does it not lawn flamingos became popular in America and various European countries due to their striking pink color that contrasted against other popular lawn ornaments of the time like gnomes thank you oh yeah lawn gnomes had been popular since the 1800s but then these plastic flamingos came out and oh geez they just scream Punky counterculture don't they so bright and Loud against the Black and Whites of the world at the time they said look at me thanks to the Glorious post-world War II economy in America everyone who's white can afford a nice glorious house in the suburbs American Dream achieved and this is my trophy it was really going against the grain of traditional style but of course over the decades they did get so popular that they uh stopped meaning the positive things today they're probably the most recognizable element of hitchy Americana style a design noteworthy for its Whimsy and tackiness trailer park Chic if you will and if you've ever seen those old Countryside attractions on a road trip chances are you've seen similar femings today plastic flamingos outnumber real flamingos and by a wide margin of that there's probably some sort of dystopian morale here but that goes beyond the scope of this video what's important is what they represent today that a lifetime has passed since their invention they're just kind of gen Fleet 180 of their original purpose kind of fitting for a Pokemon that literally has a graphical error in its Pokedex photo look these two have a second pair of tucked Wings not seen anywhere else in the game so unless we're dealing with a secretly biblically accurate Flamingo this is definitely a graphical mistake normally this would be a bigger deal but considering scarlet and violet had so so many bugs on launch yeah this one kind of just flew under the radar for most you can't even make a mistakes right flamigo why are you so generic I guess game freak will never move away from generic normal flying birds will they oh oh now wait a minute this is interesting it's fighting type I know some say that its body somewhat resembles a cartoon boxing glove like hitmonchans maybe and I do sort of see the detail of the big swollen lower lip like the big bruised Loops of boxes after a match but these details seem more coincidence than the concrete it also looks kind of like a balloon animal or a pool floaty of some sort with the Pokedex backing this one up saying this Pokemon apparently ties the base of its neck into a knot so that the energy stored in its belly does not escape from its beak so the same way you tie up balloon animals notably balloon animals do also fit into that Kiki Americana style I was talking about earlier but also a balloon animal could double as an inflatable punching bag I suppose but perhaps its fighting type is more to do with its well toned and trained body as a dancer we see quite a number of dance-based Pokemon with the fighting type for similar reasons to be such an intense dancer you gotta be fit and well trained in your movements not only do flamingos themselves do these rather intense synchronized dancing rituals but flamigo is a flamingo in Spain so it's doing Flamenco Flamenco is a style of dance and music and if you didn't know it is one of the main musical styles of Spanish culture this style was previously Incorporated by oricorio in the alola region but as a staple of Spanish culture there is no way they couldn't reuse the concept here the only problem is how to incorporate it okay everyone we need to come up with a new Pokemon to represent Flamenco one of the most iconic dance styles in all of Spain let's hear your ideas oh a flamingo flamingos are pink and Flamenco is a romantic dance style also Flamenco sounds like Flamingo oh how about a flamingo the courtship displays of these birds look like they're dancing and they've got those Woofy feathers like Flamenco dancers and also Flamenco sounds like flamingo wait wait what about a regional Gardevoir or gothatel we have a lack of regional variants so far and a fan favorite feminine Pokemon could be a great way to express the deep and Rich culture of the region oh how about a flamingo because it sounds like Flamenco so yeah even if flamigo does have some deeper Inspirations they were really determined to make this one as generic of a flamingo as possible because Flamingo Flamenco Flamingo Amigo Flamenco that's that's seriously the most significant reason they added this Pokemon now but even if that is completely true which it most likely is there are some notable reasons to create a flamenco Flamingo besides the name Flamenco is a style of musical expression characterized by various key aspects including gitara Palmas and baile otherwise known as guitar clapping and dance in English I don't have much to say regarding guitars but the signature hand raised pose flamigo strikes closely resembles a sort of wing clapping pose this itself is a reference to a similar pose real Flamingo strike known as the wing salute sure it's not your typical Flamenco pose that again is better portrayed by oricorio though there's no rule saying that you can't incorporate arm raises into a flamenco dance besides even if it's not a full-on Clap the ballet is what ties flamingos and Flamenco together whether it be pet parakeets bobbing to the radio or morning doves sending me on a nostalgia-driven depression spiral birds are the most musically friendly animals in the animal kingdom and nothing shows this better than their courtship dances during the breeding season various birds will put on special dances in an attempt to woo ladybirds who've cut the fellow's eye this includes some pretty odd displays though undeniably one of the most significant is performed by the Flamingo and here it is in all of its chaotic Glory yeah this is definitely a lot to look at but there's some clear patterns here when broken down flamingos are unique due to their tendency to perform mating rituals in large groups this makes it difficult to decipher what exactly is going on but every individual performance generally follows the same beat a combination of head flagging marching and vocalizations in fact their movements are so similar that flamingos will often synchronize with one another which ties everything together literally but let's face it this courtship dance isn't really all that similar to Flamenco but we're looking at this all wrong perhaps considered to win day it is a concept incorporated into Flamenco characterized by a profound emotional intensity that arises in an individual while dancing the feeling is described almost as having a spiritual possession overtaking one's body as the Rhythm guides their movements this effect is especially strong when shared with others which is why the style is recognized as one of the most romantic dance styles in all of global culture the same is true for flamingos even if the outward appearance is uh different but it's the same sort of emotional experience maybe you know that magical feeling when you're sharing a deep moment with someone or your entire colony in this case and that's why it's called the synchronized Pokemon it's a reference to the chemistry share between two Souls while in a courtship dance the knot in its throat could even double as a reference for the nervousness one experiences around their Crush you almost get a knot in your stomach or or not in your throat even and there's even the saying tying the knot with the one you love and this detail is so important to the design that it's referenced in almost every other language's name for the Pokemon and speaking of names amigo why that's just sort of a PG way of describing a lover isn't it game freak has this weird aversion to referencing anything romantic lately as seen with Pokemon Masters ex referring to Valentine's Day as Valentine's Day a day to celebrate being friends Pals that's all it might be Valentine's but love is not real ironic considering the Fiasco that spawned from The Game's name chains a couple years ago though but here's the thing since we can't really directly reference lovemaking at all what do a pair of lovebird Pokemon do instead well they fight of course their Pokemon pokedex thanks to a behavior of theirs known as synchronizing an entire flock of these Pokemon can attack simultaneously in Perfect Harmony what says I love you more than ganging up on an unsuspecting victim this too can be explained by the courtship dances aside from just looking violent and chaotic in general if two flamingos eye the same mate they may break out and do actual depicted as the harbingers of New Life War scientists aren't 100 sure where this Legend started from but we do know that it was somewhere in Europe and when it comes to the wind though well this stork child connection goes back to prehistoric times as in before history was being written so we don't really know but there is this sculpture from the Bronze Age depicting a stork it's believed to be a baby toy of some sort so perhaps the earliest on record reference of stork baby connections you see Timbo when a mommy and a daddy love each other very much a magical stork will deliver them a new baby to celebrate their love but to give it a total 180 and not reference real lovemaking again Bombardier instead will just give you a rock but you still have to love and take care of it though because it's like a pet rock small tangents actually because maybe that's an intended reference that rocks were a meme in the late 70s and early 80s and still occasionally get references it was literally just smooth rocks from Baja California Mexico that were put into perforated boxes with bedding they were gag gifts for sure and even included little care instructions like like a pet care or how to raise a baby book and this wouldn't at all be the only American thing in paldea especially considering Spain colonized the area initially but let's look at the real animal this is the white stork a very real non-mythical animal that exists it's found across much of Europe including the Iberian Peninsula and like wow it is just so similar to the Pokemon it's flamigo all over again even the shiny is just based on the Oriental stork which just looks somewhat different but the original is an exact one-to-one even Behavior wise storks were gifted a spear-like beak to easily hunt fish as their primary prey but in a display of the greatest evil known to man they adapted to use their beaks to brutally murder several babies like I can't even show this on YouTube without getting demonetized it's no wonder you're dark type your straight up evil and it's not even just rival nests but you stab your own Young Too absolute horror that's nature for you they gotta conserve on resources so they eliminate the runt this makes the survival of the stronger young more likely as there's more food allocated to its growth oh it's still messed up for it to go out of its way and just stab other animals babies just because it can though but at least the Pokemon isn't this outwardly evil Maybe well as seen during the urban mystica Trials of scarlet and violet the Titan Bombardier drops boulders to try and stop you from reaching the top of the mountain this rock dropping behavior is not one exhibited in storks but rather comes from other species like the Egyptian vulture they do this as their main food sources eggs and bone marrow are protected by a hard exterior so they fly up high and drop it on hard surfaces to break them open crows do this too we briefly talked about their tool use in the corvinite video but when you do it it's annoying like what are you doing you're dressed like a nanny with your upwards bun and your apron that doubles as a baby bundle like I get it you're disguising yourself as a positive role model to create a false sense of security but don't you have a job or something even your nose looks like a baby spoon you're just throwing spoon build birds in there too now oh no you don't I will not let you here comes the airplane me [Music] plane that's it just like flamigo this one's name isn't particularly clever either a bombardier is a military position specifically someone within a Bomber Crew who loads and deploys bombs from an airplane Bombardier just fits the word bird in there and it fits the role of both a bombarder and the bomber plane you know because it's a bird specifically it's based on the Fiat br-20a bomber plane which originated in the Italian military though its primary use came during the Spanish Civil War because the Italian legionary Air Force decided to get involved supporting the Nationalist cause against the second Spanish Republic this aerial support was devastating to The Republic ultimately leading to their defeat and allowing the fascist dictator Francisco Franco to take power if you know anything about Spanish culture or fascism you know that this was a very bad thing so another reason for Bombardier to be dark type and wouldn't you know it the planes themselves were named after storks that's what chiconya means in Italian it's just stork so who would have thought that an evil bomber stork who terrorizes the lands of paldea would be based off of an evil bomber plane that terrorized the lands of Spain and is named after a stork just fun times all around and I bet they put these connections on a bird that's culturally connected to delivering babies because they're just so happens to be a pretty big action between fascists and people who obsess over reproduction yeah you're a dirty homophobe aren't you cool yeah I said it and now we get to talk about you and you and you and you it's guacabilly there are more mischievous than evil thankfully which is why it sticks to the normal type of the three of them we've covered so far this one offers the most unique design yet in terms of base design I don't think it's a surprise to say that it's a parakeet the Pokedex kind of gives that one away but there's over 30 species of parakeet across Iberia alone and most of them are green the sort of default color for this Pokemon but they of course are also found in blue and yellow and the real parakeet that matches them the most it's the monk parakeet the dead giveaway here is the gray spot on its forehead really if everything's a match well aside from the pompadour hairstyle which could be inspired somewhat from another parrot species like the cockatoo they got that crazy hair but there's an even bigger cultural influence that fits perfectly and as the name flies squawkabilly is a noisy walkability fashion style popular with an American and Japanese culture the most noteworthy feature of the style includes a long black leather jacket and the previously mentioned pompadour hairstyle Spock Billy's back feathers do Point downwards creating the appearance of a long coat too in America the style was adopted by greasers in the 50s even Elvis Presley dressed like this for a time so of course the animal most known for talking and singing would be associated with the most famous rock and roll singer of all time Fame and wealth is all a bird could ask for so why are these ones so well as while Elvis obviously and all that American greasers themselves were not they didn't get Rowdy from time to time but it was the Japanese gangs known as bosozoku who are the bad boys of the country hoodlums motorbike gangs loiterers who later adopted the rockabilly aesthetic and purposefully made their motorcycles as loud and bright and obnoxious as possible like you know the weird starmobiles that team Star had like that so I guess those were more zakatara which was the same thing but a truck instead of a bike but like still same Association it also likes blockabilly these Pokemon prefer to live in cities they form flocks based on the color of their feathers and they fight over territory it's just like how gangs divide themselves into groups and often signal those groups by color so too do the squawk abilities but as also described by the Pokedex these groups aren't evenly sized with their being significantly more green and blue individuals than white ones this is reflected in real life house parakeets too green and blue are by far the most common colors and yellow is fairly abundant as well but not as much whereas white is truly the rarest of them all as this is a reference to lucism a condition where an animal is born with almost no melanin which sounds a lot like albinism but the main difference is lucistic animals can still have some melanin most commonly in the eyes truly albino eyes will always appear red here's a side by side of a lucistic versus albino snake for example what's interesting is even though there's been plenty of albino mammals and reptiles almost no truly albino birds have been documented even these white peacocks that are often called albino aren't look at the eyes boom lucistic so yes here are the lucistic squawk abilities make up the smallest group seeing as leucistic birds are rare as well and here's a fun fact that may or may not be intentional these are also the four colors of the Brazilian flag notable because Brazil started as a Portuguese colony and is home to millions of brightly Birds but what's especially cool is that even the abundance of their flag colors perfectly reflects guacabilly's color abundance green yellow blue white it's all fun and games to commit Petty crimes but eventually you will need to turn your life around and that's what the paldean taxi service is for since gorvanite is unable to fill the role in paldea because the best Pokemon exists as their Predator squawk abilities have taken their place and it's kind of a play on the common Trope in media where a troublemaker in early Seasons decides to turn their life around and reintegrate into society as a different person by the end of a series it's also a small Trope for them to become a taxi driver upon turning around it's just common for taxi drivers to be ex-criminals after all I know this town like the back of my hand from my game days yeah I know all the sleazy parts of town I know where you can get some illegal Goods sure I'll take care of you and lastly consider how American greasers and the bosuzoku are biker gangs motorbike culture is a huge deal in Spain as I explained in this video about the Box legendaries here but just know Spain's Barcelona is the number one city in the world for per capita motorcycles and as a whole country Spain is number four and MotoGP the international Superbike Grand Prix it's headquartered in Madrid Spain Spain is often considered one of the best countries in Europe for biking at all like motorbiking bicycle biking other things with bikes can you tell that I don't even know how to ride a bike so really it's no wonder we got cyclizarre in the main two box legendaries that you ride around on like motorcycles so what's another biker gang reference in squawkabilly huh yeah I thought so also consider that greasers and rockabilly sort of eventually evolved into our modern biker gang stereotypes with the dark clothes dark jeans leather jackets and all that and of course the biggest and most well-known biker gang in the world is the Hell's Angels and they have their biggest Hub outside of North America Spain so it
