foreign hey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today we're going to be taking a look at an awesome mini handheld known as the Neo or the Mayo Mini Plus I'm not exactly sure how to properly pronounce it but either way we've got an awesome handheld here a little bit of an upgrade from the original Mini this is a great pocketable retro device it's actually one of my favorites this is kind of a carry around that'll go anywhere with you but you know the screen itself and the unit itself is a little small for some people overall it's a great performer really fun to have with you basically anywhere you go but now we've got kind of an upgraded version which does come in a bit larger and this does have a lot of great features built in and like I mentioned it's been a little hard for people to get their hands on but recently there's been an uptick in availability I've had this since it released I just didn't do a video on it because I knew it was going to be sold out everywhere and I figured I'd go ahead and make the video now just to give you a look at this thing they do offer several different color variants but I opted to get the crystal purple personally I call it atomic purple and I think they did a great job with this thing it looks absolutely amazing as you can see it is much larger than the original Mini we've now got a 3.5 inch display and a 3 000 milliamp hour battery but overall I mean we've got the same basic design of the original Mini and uh yeah I really do like this unit just a bit larger for uh people with larger hands still very pocketable and portable and inside of the box with the one that I picked up I only got a USB type-c charging cable and a glass screen protector it's actually great to see that screen protector included and just to give you a quick size comparison we've got the original Mini on the left we've got the Plus on the right and as you can see yeah I mean it is coming in a lot larger but taking a look at the overall units design including the rear we've got basically the same design obviously we're not getting any analog sticks but we've got a decent d-pad here start select a b x y we've also got a dedicated menu button taking a look at the bottom of the unit we've got our 3.5 millimeter audio jack USB type c and a Micro SD card slot over here on the top we've got our power button and on the left hand side we've got our volume rocker and of course around back we have an easily removable battery our shoulder buttons and our trigger buttons taking a look at the specs when it comes to the CPU we've got a cortex A7 arm dual core CPU at 1.2 gigahertz a 3.5 inch IPS display at 640 by 480. this is fully laminated and I'll tell you they definitely didn't skimp on this display it is absolutely beautiful and one thing I actually love about the software here is we can actually get in here and adjust the color profiles Hue brightness and everything like that definitely a big step up from some of the other handhelds we've seen on the market which are just kind of set from the factory this way we can kind of fully customize the color profile we'd like to see on this display this is using a single speaker design we've also got a vibration motor and I'm going to be testing out the stock firmware this is a Linux operating system but there are custom firmwares out there that you can install on this unit very easy to use interface here from the main menu we've got our recent favorites games apps and our settings going into each one of these sections from games will allow us to kind of choose the game we'd like to play and from here these are a lot of Standalone emulators straight in the game section we've got GBA Game Boy Mega Drive Super Nintendo NES Game Boy Pocket Game Boy Color PC engine I'll tell you given the lack of analog sticks and the power the CPU is putting out basically we can go up to PS1 on this unit if you'd rather use retro Arch cores for your emulation we do have a retro Arch section with a ton of pre-installed cores here this will offer more customizability than a lot of the Standalone emulators that come pre-installed we've also got an app section A lot of this stuff is in Chinese so I'm not exactly sure what it is but you know when it comes down to it I'm just worried about Retro Gaming on this unit and there are thousands and thousands of games that are going to run at full speed on this thing and finally heading over to settings we've got a lot of customizability that we can do with this thing like changing up the themes we've got our brightness control and like I mentioned a little earlier we can also adjust the Hue contrast saturation and Luminosity of the screen itself this comes in really handy for customizing your personal color profile on this display you can get it to look exactly how you want moving down the list here we've got the basic we can change the language remapper Keys we've got those themes and all the way down here at the bottom we've got a hardware test just to give us an idea you know if our buttons are working correctly and after we remap them we can kind of see exactly how we have them mapped but yeah this does come in handy just in case you're running into an issue with firmware and you don't have a button working but uh themes is going to be really important to a lot of people there are a lot to choose from here and I know with custom firmware we've got a lot more that we can mess around with right now I'm using the default theme which I think looks good but uh we can always Swap this out if we want to got that purple look with this one bit hard to see in brighter scenarios because uh that purple is just kind of lined purple but there's another one here that gives us bigger icons which does look great especially if you go with like the crystal purple or the atomic purple version but for this video I'm just going to be sticking with the default theme I do think it looks great and I mean it definitely gets you by just super easy to use interface anybody could pick this up and fully adjust it to their liking but obviously when it comes down to it these are all about gaming playing your favorite retro games and we're going to get into some testing here we're starting out light with uh Game Boy so we've got original Game Boy and I'm using the Retro Arch core here just because it's a lot easier to swap that color palette out I love the pea green look and you might notice we've got a pretty decent looking bezel here a little battery indicator over on the left hand side and this was set up directly through retro Arch you can always disable it if you don't like it and you can colorize original game boy if you want to but I think it looks great like this moving over to some Sega Genesis or Mega Drive in other parts of the world we've got gun star Heroes and this is another one of those emulators that's going to run really well on this device so we've got basically the full Mega Drive slash Genesis catalog that we can play on the go here and I'm not sure how well it's coming across on camera but as we know a lot of these Genesis games use really bright colors those bright blues and greens like the Sonic franchise and these games look so good on this little IPS display turbo Graphics 16 or PC engine depending on where you are in the world will run really well on this Hardware this system has always been a really easy one to emulate but it doesn't take away from it because it's a lot of fun to play in a handheld like this and with the games like Bonks Adventure or bounce Revenge those colors really do pop on this screen moving over to some Super Nintendo we've got Mega Man X2 and I do like this d-pad does take a little bit of getting used to it's not as stiff as I'd like it to be for a little handheld like this but it's not completely wobbly or anything like that and we will take a look at a fighting game we'll test out some special moves in a second but one of the main systems I love emulating on handhelds like this is GBA especially with this screen I know I keep saying it but you know I'm really impressed by this 3.5 inch display I think they've done a great job with choosing this one here and when it comes to the original Mini that one also had a really beautiful screen on it but personally I do prefer this one given that we have a larger play area moving over to some cps2 using the final burn Alpha emulator and with this I figured we'd go ahead and do a little bit of d-pad testing Marvel vs Street Fighter pretty decent here I did miss a few moves here and there but it's something I could get used to like I mentioned it's not as tight as I wish it was but overall after using it for a little while I can definitely pull these moves off [Music] okay so here we have some PlayStation one and I just wanted to show you some of these Standalone emulators do have their own dedicated settings so for this one here we do have some frame skip going on and I'm going to turn the FPS on so it's now in the lower left hand corner and obviously we've got frame skip set to Auto it's going to need it for harder to emulate games so something like bloody Roar 2 and even Tekken 3 will require a little bit of frame skip but it's not noticeable usually I really do hate using it but on the smaller display it's still really smooth and while I'm here I figured I'd test out one more Playstation One game Gran Turismo it seems to be working great I'm actually having a little bit of trouble here because I've got the camera filming the screen it's a bit hard to play this racing game here while I'm filming the screen and everything but if I did have this closer to me it shouldn't have an issue with it something like Colin McRae Rally 2.0 is a really good example so overall I've been really enjoying the Mio Mini Plus and to tell you the truth if I had to choose between the two I would probably go with the plus and not because it's the newer model just because I do prefer a larger display just taking a look at the original any there's not much room here for my hands now don't get me wrong this is one I've carried around quite a bit but now you know seeing how small it really is compared to the plus it really feels more like a keychain emulator device the plus can still fit in your pocket still a very small device really great performance for what we have here but you got to keep in mind this is not designed to do high-end inhalation Dreamcast and emulators like that are going to be out of the question given the hardware we have here but there's still thousands and thousands of games that are going to run at full speed on the plus if you're looking for a highly portable retro handheld this is something I could definitely recommend and if you're interested in learning a little more maybe picking one up I'll leave some links in the description and I do plan on messing around with some custom firmware here in the near future so if you're interested in seeing a video like that make sure you let me know in the comments below but that's going to wrap it up for this one and like always thanks for watching
