Michael Brown one minute from mark one minute [Music] you [Music] and stations now the final time check before the start of our number one of the line of fire with dr. Michael Brown 30 seconds until our number one from mark that was her final verbal time check for the line of fire with dr. Michael Brown we'll have a long tone at 10 seconds before followed by a short one at five seconds have a great afternoon everybody [Music] well let's dive in to some of the big questions about Ezekiel's temple it's time for the line of fire with your host activist author international speaker and theologian dr. Michael Brown your voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution Michael Brown is the director of the coalition of conscience and president of fire school of ministry get into the line of fire now by calling 866 3 4 truth that's 8 6 6 3 4 truth here again is dr. Michael Brown welcome friends to our thoroughly Jewish Thursday broadcast today is the day of the funeral for George Floyd who would have imagined when he started his day not that long ago that the whole nation would know his name that there would be protests riots around America that we could be watching societal shifts in many ways we've imagined any of that we hope that he was in right relationship with the Lord and despite his horrible death enjoying God's presence now 866 3 4 truth 8 6 6 3 4 8 7 8 8 4 it is thoroughly Jewish Thursday so any Jewish related question of any kind any Jewish related comment argument you'd like to have with me it's about Hebrew language about messianic prophecy if it's about modern State of Israel as long as it's Jewish related give us a call eight six six three four eight seven eight eight four I want to look at a fascinating subject before we look at news in Israel before I share a very moving article with you from a Christian Zionist friend before we take your calls I want to look at Ezekiel's temple now spoiler alert let me tell you upfront I am NOT going to reveal the this is it now you go out that we solved all the problems and that's not gonna happen in fact what I want to do is present some of the problems and raise some of the challenges and some of the mystery of this passage so if you think out loud with me Ezekiel the 36th chapter it speaks of the Jewish people returning from exile to returning from Babylonian exile and and God sprinkling clean water on their hearts in the land and putting his Torah in their hearts and giving them a new heart and a new spirit right so that was not fulfilled with the return from Babylon so we still await that and we see it partially ongoing and Jewish people returning back to the land and little by little coming to faith in Messiah but expect to see a massive increase in that chapter 37 the valley of the dry bones again a picture first of X Isles coming out of Babylon but with other applications through history until the end of the age then Ezekiel 38 and 39 the gold and Magog prophecy it apparently speaking about end time war with Israel against her enemies and then that's followed by Ezekiel 40 through 48 Ezekiel 42 48 and there there is a glorious vision of God's glory returning to the temple that had departed in Ezekiel 10 because of Israel's sin now the glory returns and Ezekiel who himself as a priest is now involved in a vision he is a he is officiating there in the temple and involved with what is going to happen and there is rebuking for Israel's uncleanness and things like this but this glorious structure will be built and the sacrificial system will be restored and there'll be a prince he'll be leading in the midst of it you have all of this going on and then you have this river that comes from from God this you know Ezekiel it gets deeper and deeper a famous passage right until the you can swim in it and then that goes out and the sea q47 that brings healing that the leaves of the trees on the banks of the river bringing healing to the nation's it's a glorious passage it's a very mystical passage and at first glance when Ezekiel is receiving it as a captive in Babylon himself you would think that this is a temple to be built when they return from exile they should build according to this pattern which would be different than then the Torah pattern in certain ways they should build according to this pattern and God will miraculously turn the heart of his people to him and the glory of God will be there this was this the expectation on the return from exile but it didn't happen I remember Zeke is gonna be officiating entities Ezekiel you you he's being spoken to directly and supposed to show the plans to his people and when they see it they'll be ashamed here we are in exile this is what God wants to do this is fascinating now was it built no some christians say it's all symbolic it is symbolic of future restoration and all the details just symbolize aspects of worship and meeting with God and purification and so on it's a beautiful interpretation but I don't see it sustained scripturally in other words with all respect to those who have argued for it eloquently over the centuries right until our or day the the problem the problem is that it seems odd to go into so much detail in so many ways when it's just symbolic and when it's not actually supposed to be physically built but if it is supposed to be physically built that presents a problem for many Christians because it Institute's the sacrificial system if it's supposed to be literally rebuilt it provides challenges for traditional Jews because the dimensions don't fit so let's look at this Ezekiel 45 verse 22 I want you to look with me at the commentary of Rashi Russia being the foremost rabbinic commentator of Bible and Talmud living in the 11th century so it says the Prince shall make on that day for himself and for all of the people of Israel a bowl for a sin offering and and then you've got the Passover going on but the seems to be contradictions between those laws and the laws of Tora so Rashi comments on this and says our rabbis said that they sought to suppress the Book of Ezekiel for his words contradicted the words of the Torah indeed kanayo the son of Hezekiah the son of geryon is remembered for good for he sat in his attic and expounded on it but because of our iniquities what he expounded on these sacrifices why a bull just goes on it was lost because for iniquities it was also in other words the Talmud states that this man otherwise unknown spent night after night in his attic working on this trying to reconcile everything and he figured out how it all works but we lost we don't have it anymore let's look at the actual Talmudic description there so this is again in the Babylonian Talmud tractate Huggy God so um let's just see here okay we've got a scroll down Kai towards the end of this passage let's keep scrolling down keep scrolling down it's right towards the tail and keep going down keep going down alright let's just see and keep going alright tell you what since we were doing a lot of radio here to write the text I had sent Kai that's that's what we wanted to to pull up that one section so the Talmud goes on to explain that he used X number of cruises of oils you know to Kindle his his lamp his oil lamp and he worked any any any discovered at all so he's remembered for good but as Ross she says centuries later we don't actually have it so from a traditional Jewish viewpoint there are challenges because it contradicts because it contradicts what is written in Torah about various laws and sacrifices and and and dates and things like that that's a that's a problem traditional gym for Messianic Jew traditional Christian it can be a problem because what he need a sacrificial system for when Jesus died for sins once and pro why do you need a sacrificial system that's redundant and it's rebuilding what is what is past so it presents problems there and from a historical viewpoint it presents problems because you expected them to build that when they came back from exile but of course they weren't worthy of doing that they were not righteous as they were supposed to be that never happened maybe you could say it never will happen but then the sill in the Bible so it's very puzzling now Oh a couple years ago I was praying a lot about the passage and studying it and looking at it and feeling that the Lord wanted to give me some insight not that I'd be the one to discover but just that that I felt like the Lord was gonna help me with some insights so I was praying about it thinking about it and one of my closest colleagues writes to me Mike you have any insights in Ezekiel's temple God giving you any insights I forget the exact wording it's like funny you should write because I'm praying about this very thing in studying and then I was out with colleague and we were in Kansas City and went to a prayer room to pray and some folks said hey would you like us to pray with you and and they're involved in prophetic ministry to see if the Lord shows us anything sure so sure enough here's a prophetic word that God's gonna give me insights into Ezekiel's temple yeah so I do hope one day to study dig more and see if I can learn from what others have learned and get some other insights that would be helpful I'm sure there's been great insight from many angles up to now but a counter missionary Tobias singer claims that it presents a massive problem for Christians because the text repeatedly mentions Hamas see the Prince the Prince the Prince then this outreach Judaism website he says the prince is the Messiah and here the Prince is offering sacrifices why in the world would the Messiah be offering sacrifices results in Jesus is offering sacrifices and I'm thinking about this today because the caller asked that very question yesterday I said hey I might come back to that today show you something interesting Rashi again for most Jewish commentator on Ezekiel chapter 44 verse 3 Rashi on Ezekiel 44 verse 3 and he's talking about the prince right the prince he is a prince he shall sit there in to eat bread before the Lord and Rashi explains it the high priest is a prince and because of his importance he will be permitted to eat the meat and bread of hallowed status in that gate so interestingly what Toby sing a dozen tube this is very typical where there's a solid answer that refutes him within Judaism he won't tell you that it exists Rashi doesn't believe it's the Messiah here he believed it's it's the high priest now there many other Jewish interpreters that say this is the Messiah but there's nothing in the text that system a sudden think it takes proclaims in any messianic terms or gives him any messianic status and Rashi doesn't even think it's the Messiah here since the high priest who's a prince what do you know the Christian answer is either that the sacrifices are symbolic in Ezekiel or just as Old Testament sacrifices pointed forward to the Cross future sacrifices will point back to the cross for many that's unsatisfying but that's another option we know elsewhere like you know in Jeremiah 33 it mentions Thanksgiving offerings and things like that from that some of the rabbi's concluded that in the world to come there will still be offerings but they will only be Thanksgiving offerings and not offerings dealing with sin so that's another aspect for another period of time Lots unpack Lots unpack right we'll we'll get your calls we come back you [Music] [Music] you we know because salvation is from the Jews there was obviously a defined group of people the the Jews and in the ancient world people are known as the Jews and in the world today still known as the Jews so is it ethnic is it religious well it's a combination of both all right on the one hand if you are a physical descendant of Abraham Isaac and Jacob then you would be considered a Jew right you were part of that people ethnically so in the same way someone that lives in America sand Americans some of the lives in Italy satalia if you've been there for generations generations that your heritage and then maybe you go to another country for a little while so you're an American in Italy or an Italian in Germany right so the same thing with a Jew you can be secular you can be religious but you're still a Jew ethnically the other way that you can be a Jew is religiously if you practice Judaism if you do what Ruth did and turn away from the gods of the Moabites to worship the God of Israel and be joined with the people so someone can convert to Judaism and they are now considered Jewish and their children would then be considered Jewish all right so you have people who are ethnically Jewish and are not religious and then you have people who are ethnically non viewers who convert to Judaism and now become part of the Jewish people so it is both ethnic and religious that being said if you completely depart religiously over a period of time you'll lose your ethnic identity as well [Music] it's the line of fire with your host dr. Michael Brown get into the line of fire now by calling eight six six three four truth here again is dr. Michael Brown yes yes yes it is Thursday Michael Brown thanks for joining us before we go to your Jewish related calls I want to bring on a friend from Bronx New York pastor de Mesilla bury us there's a major event about to happen in New York City and I thought it's it's important that we get word out to all of you in the city that might be able to participate with this pastor Dimas welcome back to the line of fire are you there sir oh yes we are on the air live right now hey dr. Brown nice to talk with you thank you how interesting I think I saw your testimony maybe 10 12 years ago I'm one of the Christian TV shows and then you kind of dropped off the radar screen for me and then someone sent me a link the youtube link that you were debating Rabbi Shmuel II I guess about a year ago and so that kind of made me you know start looking you up again and I just love what you're doing how calm you are in those debates it's pretty amazing so I want to start off by telling you I'm a messianic but do you believe they're like you yeah and so when I looked you back up on the internet I found that your mother and my mother have something very much in common they gave birth to two Jewish boys of the same day so seriously three seriously yeah we got the same birthday as year a couple years older than I am okay so anyway I grew up in a conservative Jewish family four years of Hebrew school Bar Mitzvah became a believer in in Jesus in 1981 so you know so I you know went all-in and loved to study the Word of God loved the study the Hebrew not nearly is as diverse as it is you are you know I love that but I do you know in and I have been teaching men's groups and Bible studies and smuggled for many many years so something that comes up that I've tried to explain but I think your listeners would probably love hearing you explain it mm-hmm Enoshima Amari Israel in Iowa and I heard the word of heart meaning compound unity and I believe there's another word you need which means single absolute unity I don't really like the word Trinity because it implies three gods when there's not I like the word compound unit is used in the Shema so I kind of like for you to speak to that and maybe just tell people yeah yeah actually there there are a number of misconceptions involved that we tried to correct for for many many years at Cod in and of itself just means one it doesn't mean compound that doesn't mean exclusively sing that just means one like one day or one Rock or one group or just means one so the same way in English one can have a wide variety of meaning so you talk about one couple one team one galaxy one person right that it's just soon find one but can it be used to speak of several things that are one well what's the first time that F Codd is used in the Hebrew Bible Genesis 1:6 there is evening and morning you'll miss hard day one one day so evening and morning together make up one day the next time it's used is Genesis 2:24 that Adam and Eve the two become one flesh Prasad one the two become one flesh it's then used in for example Ezekiel 35 about the many different parts of the tabernacle will make one tabernacle as colic can also be used to refer to that one alone so just that one like Solomon alone some on that one will be the heir in first chronicles of the 29 so in in dude six for the Shema hear o Israel it could be translated the Lord is our God the Lord alone that's how some rabbinic interpreters actually understand it that one alone is our God not meaning he there not many of him who would be thinking there many of him okay that one and that one alone or it could be saying the Lord our God the Lord is one but that doesn't tell you if just like a day is evening and morning and and and one flesh is man and woman and one Tabernacles many parts the tabernacle it doesn't tell you that it is not specifically referring to a a God I use the term complex in his unity now there is the word yah he'd which is distinctly one that one meaning one only and in some later Jewish confessions of faith God is referred to as yah he'd but that's actually not what's in the Bible and the whole purpose of Deuteronomy 6:4 was not even to discuss the nature of God it was to say that Yahweh and Yahweh alone is our God and that there's one Yahweh there not many different Yahweh's like the Yahweh in this city in the Yahweh in that city in yelling that no no one Yahweh one Yahweh only and he's the only one that we worship that's the emphasis so Jeff in my book answering Jewish objections to Jesus vying to its five I'm series vol 2 I get into that in depth and discuss Akkad if you want it in a shorter version my book the real kosher Jesus you'll find really helpful I get into it there and you just want to get something for free everybody listening watching take advantage of this go to my website ask dr. Brown org ASX dr brown org go to the website and sign up for emails when you do you'll automatically get a mini book and ebook called seven secrets of the real Messiah and one of those we talked about God's complex unity so that's that's an excerpt from the real kosher Jesus so you get the free mini book ebook when you sign up for our email so do that if you're if you don't get them asked dr. Brown Dell or guess Cade your Brown Doug this way you won't miss an article you won't miss a video that's one or you get the book the real kosher Jesus which is a great learning tool for Jewish to give your Jewish friend or great for believers to find out more about the Jewish roots of their faith or go into more depth still get volume two of answering Jewish objections where I get into this or get all five volumes right we'll be right back with your calls [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so why does a good God allow evil in the world I don't just mean suffering but but evil things that are so ugly things that are so dark things that are so despicable things that are so contrary to goodness why does God allow them in his world and the answer is simple and that answer is choice that answer is freedom he has given us a choice he has put us in an environment where we can choose good we can refuse evil God could have created Adam and Eve and given us no choice he put them in a beautiful perfect world and said you can obey and be blessed or you can disobey and be cursed he gave a choice because love cannot be coerced and if I said to each of you I can do an operation on your brain you'll no longer be able to make choices but you'll be trouble-free the rest of your life would you take that or would you say no I'd rather be able to make choices here's what God said to the people of Israel Moses gave this challenge in Deuteronomy 30 verse 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I've set before you life and death blessing and curse therefore choose life that you and your offspring may live he gives us a choice and says you determine whether it will be blessing or curse whether it will be life whether it will be death and even in this world where there is evil there is pain there is hardship we can learn through it we can grow through it everything that this world means to drag us down and destroy us can help us draw closer to God the things that are meant for evil can be turned for good often it's through suffering and pain that we grow closer to the Lord often it's by seeing evil that we determine all the more to do good and be vessels of good so even the evil can be used for good purposes and then having made our choice having cast our lot having said Lord we want you and we don't want the evil the day will come when Jesus will return when we will be resurrected when we will be with him forever and when we will be in a perfect world where there is no sin there is no evil there is no pain there is no death and God will wipe away every tear from our eyes that day will come but right now we're in a world with darkness and light with blessing and curse with good and evil we make choices and even when evil comes to our door it can be turned around as an opportunity for greater good our God is a redeemer hey friends many more resources waiting for you on our website ask dr. Brown dot-org I look forward to being with you there dr. Michael Brown your voice of moral cultural and spiritual revolution here again is dr. Michael Brown welcome welcome to thoroughly Jewish Thursday yes America continues to be rocked we continue to be shaken in ways that we haven't cumulatively in our history yeah if you think of the Civil War and the divisions in America and the bloodshed there that's unprecedented there are other things in and of themselves unprecedented but everything happening at once this is a time of shaking there's a time for us to rise up as God's people and lead the way in making a difference and when you study that Hebrew Scriptures this is thoroughly Jewish Thursday you can't get away from the fact that justice matters to God that these were things of great importance to him that when you see Israel being judged in the Old Testament you'll see three cardinal sins idolatry and justice and immorality and these were the things that brought judgment down on Israel it's a time now where we need to humble ourselves and cry out for mercy friends it's an urgent hour we as God's people must lead the way on every front and make Yeshua Jesus known let that be our loudest and clearest message 866 3 4 truth all right with that let's go to the phones and then a little while I want to share a very moving article from a colleague who lives in Bethlehem as to why he is a Christian Zionist I think you'll be touched by it let's go to Waterloo Iowa Daryl welcome to the line of fire how are you doing very well thank you ok get right to the point I've been doing a tremendous amount of studying God's really blessed me far as that goes I'm having a problem seeing the third person in the Trinity as we know it is and just to emphasize I'm not a Unitarian I'm sure I clearly see the Sun in Jesus's appearance and you know in the Old Testament right so yeah I like how you say I've read some of your things and listened to the way you speak on this topic that you call it God's triune nature and I don't think I've ever actually heard you say that there is a third person as most Trinitarian speech oh yeah absolutely no no absolutely emphatically there is and I've taught on this in great great detail with many many verses so is your problem seeing the Holy Spirit in the distinct way in the Old Testament or in the whole Bible okay so let's just start in the New Testament then all right and and let's just look at a verse like John 15:26 as an example okay so Jesus says there when the helper comes whom I will send to you from the father the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the father he will bear witness about me and you also will bear witness because you've been with me from the beginning in John 14 through 16 you have a series of verses like this that speak of the father said in the Sun the Sun sending the spirit in very distinct ways or for example in in John 14:26 the helper the Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name he will teach you all things and bring to remembrance all that I have said to you so you have verses like this where you have distinct father/son spirit where the spirit is a teacher the spirit is a guide and I say a63 and in Ephesians 4 the spirit can be grieved speaking of his personality and acts 5 you can lie to the Holy Spirit and Hebrews 9 the Holy Spirit is spoken of as eternal you have for example in first Corinthians 12:1 God one Lord one spirit and then the manifestations of the spirit and can be wisdom knowledge tongues prophecy things like that in 2nd Corinthians 13:14 you have the invocation where Paul speaks of the love of God the grace of the Lord Jesus and the fellowship of the spirit so there you have again God Lord spirit and fellowship with the spirit that's Fellowship is communion that's relationship so these are just are some of many verses that speak of the spirit independently that speak of the Spirit in conjunction with the father and the son each independently and they clearly indicate the personhood of the spirit ok but what I'm seeing in a lot of the passages you mentioned is basically it's like a manifestation of God's power that's the way I see it it's just that doesn't fit it doesn't fit in any verse that I meant how can someone who teaches and helps you as a distinct person who can be grieved who can be lied to with whom you can have fellowship how can that be a manifestation of power you have fellowship with the manifestation of power but well no it would have to be some type of being yeah exactly it does does the manifestation of power have have personhood can you lie to it you know like I said I'm not set on this I'm trying to really information no but what I'm asking is what else could you ask I appreciate that I'm just trying to find out I'm not accusing I'm not criticizing no no what else would you want if I can show you independence and you have the Baptizer name of the Father Son and spirit while I do that if the Spirit is just some manifestation of power why mention that specifically see baptizing them in the father-son spirit you can grieve the spirit you can have communion with the spirit so how is that not a person what out what else could be said that's what I'm asking for okay well III know that passage there that's Matthew 28 and what one of the interesting thing is I've also been doing a lot of reading of the early church fathers and I know as CBS has mentioned that passage in Matthew before and I you know in his first writings he never mentioned the Holy Spirit but then in his latter writings you see that and in the 10 everyone knows the text is original there's no dispute over the authenticity of the text in ancient Greece Greek manuscripts okay yeah it's it feels to me just to be honest to be candid again I mean no criticism but it feels as if you really are trying to get away from it rather than embrace what scripture says this is something that you read or got in your head is causing you to question it and now whatever I show you you're gonna read differently than what it says because the cumulative evidence is quite overwhelming and that's just off the top of my head throwing verses out to you well there are some that is some truth to that and one of the things that got me and one of the points that was made is it's like where's the throne or the third person in the Trinity I mean in the Bible we see I know in Revelations three revelation 22 we see you know a throne mentioned for God the Father and Jesus but there's no mention of a third exactly because the whole role of the Holy Spirit is to draw attention to Jesus to the glory of the Father that's this whole role that's what scripture tells us when you say so who is it that's been influencing you that's the big question no just I can't recall any names particularly just a lot of reading I've been doing got it well here's here's a good place to go to again that there's if you want a ton of evidence for me get volume two of my series answering Jewish objections to Jesus volume two of answering Jewish objections to Jesus we get a ton of references there but just go to karma org CA RM org Karm org and just search for the Holy Spirit or deity of the Holy Spirit it's all there but again the purpose of the Holy Spirit is to be hidden and invisible and draw attention to Jesus and then the exaltation of Jesus is to the glory of the Father so this is it doesn't say in 1st Corinthians 15 that the Sun gives the kingdom up to the father so that God can be all in all so each one complements the other Philippians to that every knee will bow to Jesus and confess that he is Lord to the glory of God the Father now Holy Spirit testifies of him a power doesn't testify yes the Holy Spirit includes aspects of God's power but so there's the father in the Senate include aspects of God's power hey keep running to the truth of the word and have fellowship with the Holy Spirit you cannot have fellowship with an abstract power all right thank you sir for the call eight six six three four truth let's go to Scott in winston-salem North Carolina welcome to the line of fire yes can hear it clearly yes I can yeah I have a question and I'm not really trying to find a weak point in the biblical arguments but tell us about in Daniel chapter 12 Oh uh-huh verse 11 yeah I'm reading this new living translation but it says from the time the daily sacrifice is taken away and in fact religious theology because that's equation is set up to be worship there will be yeah one thousand is not a date mm-hmm it is and bless you lazy wait and remain on to the hand of the 1,335 days yep and we got I kind of cult become islands just numbers are very similar and now in Revelation tells about the Gentiles will trample the holy city for 42 months mm-hmm which is about 1260 days right which is what it says yeah yeah revelation 11 3 is any room for stretching and saying that we're talking about a claim yeah it could be you know look here so here's the problem Scott it's a great question sir let me just jump in because I got a break coming up the problem is the book of Revelation is apocalyptic visionary literature and everything is symbols and signs so is it literally days that are counted and could be or does it symbolize something could be Daniel is also highly visionary as well but because they are so close yeah they could well be speaking of the same events and then there's another 30 days for other things that will unfold in Daniel so it could be but the last thing to do is worry about it as there's as if there's a discrepancy because we're talking about prophetic language and apocalyptic language it's not like reading a newspaper report with sports scores that okay this team scored six runs this key three runs we know exactly what it meant often it's highly symbolic like could well be so I appreciate the question could well be speaking about the same events and Daniel is adding on 30 days for some additional things that will happen during that time appreciate it [Music] can we really make the scriptures say whatever we wanted to can we twist the Bible in any direction can we take a verse and and get a wrong message from it yeah if you read it wrongly if you treat it wrongly you can't so there's an example that's commonly used Jesus is speaking to Judas so it's John chapter 13 and verse 27 there at the Last Supper and it says after he had taken the morsel so Judas takes the morsel Satan entered into him Jesus said to him what you are going to do do quickly and you eat another verse and it says Judas hung himself then you have Jesus saying elsewhere go and do likewise you've seen this done go and do likewise you can pull a verse here here here and put it together to make a message that's totally contrary to the Bible you can do the same thing with any book you can do the same thing with a phone book you know and pull out a page here and a line here and a sentence there to make it mean whatever you want but if you read the Bible rightly no you can't make it me whatever you want it to mean you can't make it say whatever you want it to say so what's the key read everything in proper context and read everything with respect to the type of literature it is understand poetry is poetry if the Bible says God is our rock it doesn't mean that he is a physical Rock if you're reading something that Paul wrote don't just pull out the one line look at the whole letter and then if you need more context look at Paul's other letters or if you need more context look at the rest of the New Testament or if you need the fullest context look at the whole Bible and then understand as God speaks and reveals himself that we get more and more insight into who he is in his nature not contradicting what comes before but clarifying as we continue to read the full revelation through the cross read it rightly and you'll understand it rightly always to this author international speaker and theologian dr. Michael Brown your voice of more cultural and spiritual revolution get into the line of fire now by calling 866 3 for true here again is dr. Michael Brown [Laughter] [Music] thanks friends for joining us on thirdly Jewish Thursday YouTube question wondering why did Jesus say came only for the lost sheep of the house of Israel is that lost mean is in the lost twelve tribes well the twelve tribes were not fully lost her ten tribes fully lost they were always incorporated into the rest of the Jewish people but he met the people of Israel he was referring to the people of Israel in general the Jewish people and on earth his first focus was the lost sheep of the house of Israel then after that from Israel the gospel goes to the whole world all right eight six six three four truth before we get your calls when I spoke in bethlehem beit jala to be exact a couple years ago through christ at the checkpoint conference spent some time with a brother there brian trogir and he's a strong Christian Zionist but in an article that he wrote for The Jerusalem Post an op-ed piece he shares why he is a Christian Zionist and in the editorial he said because I'm a Christian many people assume is my religious faith that is the primary motivation for my advocacy advocacy for Israel but that's not the case I encourage you to read that on the Jerusalem Post it is a moving moving story about his son who dies a terrible terrible condition as a boy as this leg amputated it's it's very very moving his son Taylor nine years old huge tumor discovered in his pelvic dish especially insidious cancer one which tumors calcify turning into bone stabbing from the inside out so as a daddy's fighting he's praying for his son's healing but also concerned about his spirit because his son's always been so feisty and you know and and just you know when he's after losing a leg and amputation you know when his first things is to crack a joke you know get a half price on shoes and things just kept that spirit and and in the middle of this Brian couldn't just praise the Lord thank you the Lord I know you're good some people can there's just grace to do that but this is like God what are you doing this this is a right and there was a special prayer service being held in his church one night and they they they worship for about 30 minutes but Brian couldn't enter in and then he got up to speak and he said right now God is my opponent and people like what are you talking about but the Jewish doctor was there and Jewish doctor understood him because within Judaism there is a tradition of challenging God as an act of faith if you have my job commentary you know that's the subtitle right job the faith to challenge God the new translation and commentary there's even an essay in the back of the book on challenging God as an active faith now too many that sounds completely irreverent how can that be but for Joe because he was so convinced that that God did not seem to be acting justly to him and he knew that God was a just God he had to challenge him and that was an act of faith so in a certain way he spoke wrongly of God and God rebuked him for it strongly and Joe humbles himself in recants but in another way job spoke rightly about him which is what God says in job 42 740 to 780 repeats to friends and commands job who spoke rightly about him close to my servant three times and and it was finding this spirit among the Jewish people among the religious of the non-religious that he said that's a people I can identify with so it wasn't the theology of the promises that God made to Israel to restore them to the land and Israel is the eternal homeland the Jewish people a lot of that comes afterwards for Brian but for him it was the identification of a people that could understand that heart of wrestling with God and he wonderfully lays it out in that article if any of you have lost a child you'll find it very moving for me having never lost a child or grandchild thank God it was deeply moving to read this it was deeply moving to hear it face to face so check that out why I'm a Christian Zionist just published on the Jerusalem Post and if you don't have my job commentary I strongly encourage you to get if you can afford to get it I believe you'll be blessed it's beautifully produced high-quality spent obviously many years working on it and then the goal was to make it accessible to anyone really seriously wanted to dig into the text you can do it I think you'll be richly blessed helped edified strengthened challenged by it eight six six three four truth we go back to the phones montreal michael welcome to the line of fire thank you hi dr. Brown hey we're taking the call you bet so questions for you I'm currently exploring the the role of the death of the righteous yeah you that you speak about as an analogy for your shoe up and from numbers 35 and I was just wondering how to conceptualize from numbers 25 phineas and I guess like the death of the wicked and kind of be a to me power they're like I know I think Milgram is the one who says that it's more like a ransom more like atonement of money they gotta put it in in a different category and I was just wondering how you kind of deal with numbers 25 would you kind of place it in that that's the type of be more well related to it but the other side of the coin so and I in volume 2 of answering Jewish objections to Jesus I do look at this passage it does use the route with a pair prepared to make atonement but as Milgram and my professor than why you borrow Devine have pointed out in the leviticus and numbers commentaries that the the route can mean to turn away wrath it can mean to ransom it can mean to expiate atone there are different aspects to it and and and some of that flip sides to the same coin like by making expiation wrath is turned aside I wrote extensively on the route in the honorary volume the Festschrift for professor levine some years ago i'll keep air and atonement in the book of isaiah but here's the concept here the the israelites are are worshipping the idols of the Midianites and sleeping with their women apparently counseled by Balaam Balak the king was / apparently counseled by Balaam this is the way to I couldn't curse them but here's how you get God to curse them so in any event what we do know for sure is they are having sex with the women wrath is broken out a plague has broken out through this judgment on the people and in the midst of this as the Israelites are mourning and and and wailing that zimri and Israelite man takes this woman Cosby right into a set in front of everybody's weeping wailing right it so it takes this many of that woman into his tent and Phineas where the zeal goes in there takes a spear and Spears and both through and the wrath stops atonement is made okay so in what sense can atonement be made we understand the concept if I take a life I pay for it with my own life right shed blood numbers 35 I pay for it with my own blood otherwise it's not it's not equal so now you have the problem where you shed blood but it's innocent it's accidental you know your axe head flies off Kosovo you go to the City of Refuge you stay there when until the high priest dies so he is represent of the people his death frees you his death is like for everybody the the blood that never got answered and and for which there is no retribution but later rabbinic tradition teaches if a murderer is gonna be stoned to death he's to make confession if he doesn't know what to say he says let my death be an atonement for my sins so that's the concept right you paid for it okay so the death of the righteous has power to atone in that you have like a big credit right I've got a trillion dollars credit on my account I can pay for a million people's debt of a million dollars or whatever it is because the credit on my counsel if someone was righteous and they died they didn't deserve it but that takes the place of others who did deserve it if they repent there can be mercy hence the death of the righteous atone for the sins of the generation so where does this fit in this would be the other side of the coin where the a representative ringleader a public sinner whose guilt is is so open and and and and play and right in the midst of the morning and repents that is so outwardly brazen that his death stops it that's enough it would be equivalent to let's say you you're hunting down mafioso you know and and you've got the Mafia leader and his underlings and and he dies in a shootout everything kind of stops everybody all the others running high because the the kingpins gone everything shuts down the operation collapses so it's that aspect of it here a representative sinner dying for his guilt stops wrath but what if you have a whole bunch of sinners and and and there's judgment comes in and that's where the death of the righteous can have that potentially atoning effect which of course points to the cross so volume two again I do treat it but it's it's the opposite side of the coin but the same concept if that makes sense yeah I mean well I guess the statement for example that you should like the one who knew no sin became sin that he was cursed on a tree like that's where I'm wondering if you could kind of draw that analogy like on the one hand you have a high priest and and he did it home for the the the transgression of the person who was in the City of Refuge but here in 25 this person is a is a sinner and that day of wrath on yeah yeah like they're definitely it's representative can that really really would you know you could potentially write up obviously you don't want to present a sinful image and say that represents him right however the concept of him becoming the guilty party and how the guilty party could pay you could you could extricate something like that you know it's just like Jesus and Barabbas right where you could preach that we are Barabbas you know we were the ones that got set free while he died there's some you could draw out of it in that way that because you're thinking clearly on it I think you could do that in a valid way hey I'm at a time but thanks for thinking this through and everybody else friends let me just okay let me memorize the board here if I spot you tomorrow I'll try to push up and get you more quickly a favor Paul god bless [Music] you
