The Murders At White House Farm #Crimetober

[Music] hi guys and welcome back to crimetober this is the fourth crimetober video that i have done so be sure to check out the other three i will link them in the description box today we have a very dark murder multiple murders of a family and honestly i feel like this case needs to be talked about more because it's first of all it's very interesting and it's still debated on to this day but a lot of americans really don't know about this case or haven't even heard of it and it's really popular with our friends across the pond yes another uk case today you guys definitely have some creepy things happening over there and honestly i feel pretty cool saying this but hbo max is sponsoring today's video and they asked me to look into this case which is the case of the white house farm murders i'm so glad they asked me to do this because i had never heard of it either being american and after researching it i think it is so interesting and i think their series on it is going to be amazing like i said this case is heavily debated especially the evidence in the case and the handling of the case so the series is going to take an in-depth look into those things this is one of those cases that seems obvious at first but the more you think about it and the more you find out you start to question things so it's gonna be one of those series that is just highly addictive and bingeable and what's really cool is a podcast is actually being produced in addition to the series that goes even more in depth and it has an interview from the real life father from the case also you also it's hbo guys need i say moore everything that they make is incredible so again check it out at the link below and let's go ahead and get into this case okay so this case takes place in essex england in 1985. the family that we are going to be talking about today is the bamber family so the parents in this case are june and neville bamber june and neville got married in 1949 in a christian church they were both very religious especially june june was really really religious neville was described as a very strong manly type of man and he was known as really easy going nice down to earth pretty good person overall and he was very well respected in the community mr mrs bamboo regarded as the squares of the village very well respected i can always i've always remember neville loved the party june um on the other hand she was a much quieter person shy and the two of them were a perfect pair she took religion perhaps a bit further than she ought but that was her life and that's what she felt and she respected religion and acted by it so after june and neville got married they wanted to have kids but they quickly realized that they were not able to so this is when they decided to adopt and they actually adopted two kids a boy and a girl and they were both really young when they were adopted and they were not biologically related they were very excited to have kids and they named them sheila and jeremy when they first had their kids they lived in a pretty small house and they decided eventually to upgrade so that they would have a little bit more space so this is when they moved into a house that june's father had previously owned and it was a pretty big house it was on over 300 acres of land it was a very classic looking red brick house with you know white trim that typical farmhouse look and in the area this was known as white house farm the family owned a company called oc road campsites and i think this still exists today i tried looking it up and it looks like you can still camp there i'm not sure if they still own it but i thought that was interesting now june and neville wanted the absolute best for sheila and jeremy growing up they sent sheila to a bunch of different private schools making sure she got the best education possible and then after high school she actually went to secretarial school to become a secretary which i didn't know you could go to school for that is that still a thing let me know now jeremy also attended private school but eventually he was having a lot of behavioral issues he was just kind of a little [ __ ] he was always getting into trouble and he really wasn't well liked by many people didn't have many friends and he was a big prankster in his family like even his own family kind of didn't like him because of this for example one of the things he really loved to do to his own mother because she was terrified of rats was to put a bunch of baby rats into his pocket and then force her to stick her hand in and not let her take it out and she would be like touching all these baby rats and he would freak her out and then he would also ride his bike around her in circles so fast and i guess this would really freak her out and bother her as well so eventually they decided he kind of needed to be like whipped in shape a little bit and they sent him off to boarding school but this was really upsetting to jeremy he really did not have a good experience at boarding school and he felt like he was bullied and mistreated by teachers even like i said he just wasn't good at making friends actually told a few of his friends in confidence that he was an adopted child and children can be very cruel and they made fun of it and he was known as the bastard apparently not only that he was feeling pretty abandoned by his parents you know being sent off to boarding school and this is after he was already adopted so i think he felt a little unwanted and not sure of where he belonged and just kind of floating in the world and so he was very angry about that not only was there serious bullying against him at the school but there's also reports that he could have been sexually assaulted while at school so that's just terrible and we have no way to even determine if that's true or not but chances are i mean a lot of sketchy things happen at these boarding schools but eventually jeremy made it through and he decided to go forward into college and after he was done with college in 1982 he came back and lived at his parents house again and he was pretty set up when he came back home because his daddy actually bought him a nice little cottage and it was just right down the road from white house farm so he was close to his family and they also gave him a car and because they gave him all these things it was agreed upon that he would be working at the family farm or for their company the oc roadside campsites and not only were they generous in hooking up his whole life they actually gave him eight percent of that campsite business so needless to say jeremy had it pretty good he was pretty spoiled and from the outside looking in this family looked like the perfect family perfect kids perfect house christians you know owners of this company they're well off perfect life right in reality jeremy's mother june was really struggling with depression on two different occasions 1955 and 1958 june was submitted into a psychiatric hospital and keep in mind at this time mental health was just not as well accepted or as well understood as it is today and while she was at the hospital she was treated with something called electroshock therapy some of you may be familiar it's when small electric currents are sent through the brain which initially triggers a small seizure and the idea behind this procedure is to reset the brain's wiring and chemistry nowadays it's used in very rare and extremely severe cases where all other treatment has been proven not to work and it's still very controversial to this day june was really depressed because she was having a lot of issues with her kids like i said jun was super super religious like to the point where she kind of was seeing the world as good and evil and anyone who wasn't religious to her was considered to be bad and she felt like her kids weren't really good christians at this time sheila had just gotten done working in the modeling industry or kind of trying to make it in there and june really did not like that she really frowned upon that career and then jeremy was just kind of a loser pretty much hanging at home you know working on the farm but guess what he was actually farming cannabis that's right jeremy was growing the green and june did not like this and june had really pushed religion hard on the kids growing up like really hard and was very strict on them and it kind of backfired on her so their relationship was not good especially june and sheila they had a terrible relationship a lot of times jun would even call her the devil's child and one thing that jun really did not like about sheila is that she had gotten pregnant when she was 17 before she was married and june decided that it would be best for their reputations if sheila got an abortion which she was normally completely against publicly so they had to keep this a secret and that was a big turning point for sheila and jun i mean sheila just never trusted june again after that and vice versa so then in may of 1977 sheila actually married the guy who she had originally gotten pregnant with his name was colin and they decided that they wanted to start a family as soon as they got married it took them several tries but eventually they got pregnant with twins twin boys and they named them daniel and nicholas however only five months after the babies were born sheila found out that colin had a side hull that he'd been secretly hooking up with the entire marriage so that ended and it did not end well over time sheila became very very depressed so in 1983 she went to the same doctor that treated her mother his name was dr hugh ferguson dr ferguson ended up admitting her to a psychiatric hospital just like her mother and while she was there she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder but after spending even more time with her and looking over her test results dr ferguson decided to change this to paranoid schizophrenia and interestingly enough sheila was struggling with some of the same things that her mother was just like her mother she was calling her kids the devil's children not only does she want to end her own life but she talked about wanting to end the lives of her children as well because she believed that they were possessed she also told the doctor that she believed she could convince her kids to kill other kids so pretty scary stuff here but uh eventually dr ferguson cleared her she was released from the hospital in september of 1983. she was put on an antipsychotic drug and she did continue to see dr ferguson on a regular basis however eventually she suffered another psychotic episode and ended up back in the same mental hospital she was there for about a month before they decided she was good again and they discharged her but this time because sheila was struggling so much with her mental health they decided to remove her kids from her what you think would have been done as soon as she mentioned that they were the devil's children and she was going to convince them to kill other kids but eventually they did decide to have them go stay with their dad so on august 4th 1985 sheila decided that she was going to take her sons and go visit her parents and jeremy back at the farm the kids were super excited to see their grandparents and sheila was excited to see her parents and jeremy even though there was a little tension with her mom they were trying to work through it at this point and according to the family housekeeper when sheila arrived nothing seemed out of the ordinary with her or the boys everyone seemed happy and excited to be there and then two days later on august 6th they all went over to the house to have a family dinner so this is jeremy sheila the two boys and neville and june and at some point during the dinner neville and june suggested to sheila that she put the boys into daytime foster care and i've been super confused about this i cannot figure it out i'm not sure if this was actual foster care like only in the daytime or was this daycare like daytime care i'm not sure what exactly that meant but it seems to have upset sheila a little bit jeremy said sheila thought it was kind of offensive and weird and wasn't really into it so that makes me think that maybe it was some type of actual foster care that she'd be giving up control of them during the day or something like that maybe they didn't think she could care for their needs during the day i'm not sure i'm really not sure but all you really need to know is that jeremy thought that sheila was a little upset by this after dinner around 9 30 p.m jeremy went back to his little cottage down the road and around that same time the farm secretary called neville and talked to him for a little bit and i'm not sure why she was calling this late but they talked now according to the secretary whose name is barbara she thought that neville was a little preoccupied and just seemed a little agitated and off when she talked to him and she also said that it sounded like there could have been an argument happening in the house at one point neville just ended up suddenly hanging up on barbara and she thought this was really weird because this was super unlike him he was not the type to get flustered like that or just hang up on people he was very very polite so she automatically thought something was off then about 30 minutes later june's sister pamela called her and they talked for a little bit even sheila had hopped on the phone and talked to her for a little bit and according to pamela sheila was acting a little bit off as well but in the early hours of the next morning august 7th at about 3 30 a.m jeremy got a call from his father neville that his sister had gone berserk with a gun and according to jeremy after a few minutes on the call it just cut out so jeremy decided to call the police but instead of calling emergency dispatch he called the non-emergency number just the police department hi my name is jeremy bamba from gold hanger uh you've got to help me um my father's phone from white house farm and he sounded really frightened he says my sister's gone crazy and she's got a gun but then the phone went dead um it sounded like someone had cut the line when he did get a hold of police they told him to go ahead and head to the farm and that they would meet him there and apparently as they were driving there they saw jeremy driving weirdly slow like absurdly slow for someone whose father just said their sister had gone berserk with a gun and hung up this was a short drive like i said he just lived down the road shouldn't have taken jeremy that long but it did so around 5am everyone gets to the house and instead of entering the house the police decide to wait two hours outside the house and i've never heard of this it's super super odd but they ended up getting out a megaphone and like screaming into the house to ask if anyone was there and no one was responding because they were all dead but for some reason they didn't want to enter the house right away and no one ever said anything from inside the house it was completely silent all they could hear was a dog barking and during this time jeremy talked to the police outside and told them that they had a normal family dinner and everything was fine and told them about the call that he got from his dad and right away he brought up that strange comment that his parents had made to his sister about foster care and how he thought that really upset her and he also mentioned to them that his sister was mentally ill but that everything seemed fine when he left the house and one little other detail he mentioned to the police at the last second before they went in the house he told them that he had left his gun at his parents house on the counter loaded with ammo sitting right next to it so we have a possible family fight or disagreement we have a loaded gun and we have a mentally ill person police are already starting to think they have the picture pretty much figured out so not until 7 54 a.m did the police enter the house but when they did go inside they found the bodies of sheila her two boys and neville and june june sheila and the twins were upstairs and neville was downstairs in his pajamas in the kitchen in a chair slumped over he had actually been shot eight times and six of those times were in the face so definitely a crime of passion everyone else also died from gunshot wounds neville's body was also found with a lot of defense wounds so it seemed that he had fought back sheila was found in the master bedroom and the boys were found in their individual beds june had been shot seven times sheila had been shot three times daniel had been shot five times and nicholas had been shot three times so obviously this was a bloody mess and the phone was found off the hook so when they went back outside and told jeremy about his family and what they had seen he was horrified he was said to have a major physical reaction he was hysterical he was screaming he was punching things he was crying throwing up he had a huge meltdown essentially and like i said police thought they had this one in the bag they thought it was obvious you know this mentally ill girl killed her whole family because she didn't have a great relationship with her parents and then she killed herself and jeremy was really telling them all about her mental illness so they were thinking that was probably what happened and right away the media started spreading that that that was fact that that had happened that sheila killed her whole family because she was mentally ill there was an air of shocked silence in the quiet little village of tulsa and darcy today as people went about their business stunned by the news that all but one of this well-known family had met such violent deaths but one thing that was kind of weird was sheila was also shot three times which was possible but a little odd but she was shot in the face and the gun was actually found laying on top of her pointing in that direction and according to the medical examiner it is possible to shoot yourself two times that don't actually kill you and be conscious enough to shoot yourself a third time so that could have been the case here like i mentioned at the beginning of this video the handling of this case was absolutely atrocious the police decided to really not treat it as a crime scene at all in fact they ended up burning the bedding and the carpet in the house because they wanted to get rid of all the blood and wanted to spare jeremy's feelings and not only that one of the detectives on the crime scene actually went picked up the gun with his bare hands and this isn't some ancient case remember this is 1985 it's not like they didn't understand how important dna and crime scene preservation was one interesting thing that the police did find was a carving in the cupboard of sheila's room someone had carved i hate it here into the wood and i guess they were never able to determine when that carving was made it could have been that day or it could have been back in her childhood i feel like there's got to be some way to figure that out but what do i know so only three days after the murders after his whole family had been killed jeremy was handed the keys to white house farm he now had a ton of inheritance he owned the family businesses and he was free to do whatever he wanted now because his parents weren't here to tell him to be religious or to not grow cannabis i mean he could just have the freedom to do whatever he wanted at this point a few days after the murders they had a funeral and during the funeral jeremy was very dramatic just the way that he was outside of his house not just crying but hysterical loud sobs screaming out and friends and family started to think that this was a bit peculiar and then a few family members actually saw that after the funeral after everyone was leaving that jeremy turned around and thought no one was looking at him and had a huge grin on his face like literally wiped tears off and then turned around and smiled his mouth went you know talk about wide mouth frogs we really had one there was media that was there and a lot of family members said that when the media was around he put on quite a show like literally falling onto the ground couldn't stand up his girlfriend had to help him and when any camera was on him he was very emotional and as soon as they turned away he would kind of snap out of it several people noticed he was putting the mask on putting the mask off and it was definitely weirding people out and during the wake he also said some really weird things i was just acting super off not the way that you would if your whole family was just killed he went from being super emotional and barely being able to stand to making comments like i'm the boss now and talking about how he was gonna nail his girlfriend real good when they got home so at this point jeremy is definitely looking sus luckily the police did decide to test the gun for fingerprints and when they got it back they saw sheila's fingerprints and jeremy's which definitely added to their suspicions that were already brewing but jeremy was able to explain this because this was his gun he said that earlier that day he was going to go out and shoot rabbits and he was holding it while he was loading it and everything and he just never ended up getting around going out soon after jeremy had gotten access to the house one of his cousins came to stay with him and his cousin actually found a gun silencer in the house and it seemed like it had been hidden in the family office cupboard when the rifle was found there was no silencer on it it was just normal and this was a monumental part of this case because they determined that it would be impossible for sheila to have shot herself if she used the silencer because a silencer goes on the end of a gun sorry i am terrible with guns we all know this but she was using a long gun and a silencer goes on the end of it and makes that gun even longer so it wouldn't have been physically possible for her to reach the trigger and position the gun underneath her chin and actually be able to make that shot it just wouldn't have worked so now they need to figure out if the silencer was on the gun or not so after looking at the silencer a bit more they found out that it had blood on it i picked up the silencer and i noticed it was sticky sticky too off to the touch we suddenly realized that there was a spot of blood only a small spot but it was right at the end we quickly put it to one side and it was sent off to forensic for some reason they weren't able to figure out exactly who the blood belonged to but they determined that it wasn't jeremy's blood but it could have been any of the people that were shot with the gun so it seemed like the silencer was on the gun which would make it impossible for sheila to have killed herself so at the time jeremy had a girlfriend named julie they first started dating back in 1983 two years before all of this so they had been together for quite a bit and on the day of the murders jeremy called julie and told her that something was wrong he didn't go into detail but he sounded very sketchy and then he actually hung up on her and it wasn't until a few hours later that she got word that his whole family was murdered and about a month after the murders happened jeremy and julie's relationship started to go sour julie was becoming very sus of jeremy and was questioning him all the time about his family's murders poking holes in his statements questioning things that he said and he would get very angry and they would have big fights over it at one point she got so mad that she even tried to smother him with a pillow so things were getting toxic and then in early september julie found out that jeremy had been cheating on her and that was the final straw julie became furious with jeremy and actually started physically beating him when she found out after this julie went to the police and told them that she was worried that he possibly was the one who killed the bamber family she also told police that he had a bad past julie said that jeremy was just a shady guy and she thought that this would be something that he would do in fact he had actually betrayed his family before by staging a break-in at those oc campsites he literally broke into his family's company stole money from them and then staged it as if it was some stranger and when police asked jeremy about this he said that it was true but the only reason he did this was to convince his parents that they needed a better security system so he was just trying to help julie said that jeremy often talked about how he was sick and tired of his family she said that he felt like his family was super controlling and trying to run his whole life not only that he thought that sheila was a bad mother and that the kids were gonna end up growing up to be disturbed and julie also thought that jeremy wanted his family's money that he'd always wanted money and wanted to take more and more even though his family gave him so much according to julie his parents had made a will recently and they decided that their money would be split 50 50 between their kids sheila gets half jeremy gets half but jeremy did not like this and he wanted all of it for himself according to julie he wanted to do the whole lot in one go he wanted the whole family to be there so you can get rid of all of them he was not going to get rid of the food because he left over they were getting a part of the inheritance so you had to have the whole family and julie said that jeremy told her several times about different ways that he had thought about killing his family including burning down their house drugging them all with sleeping pills or even shooting them to death he said to me with quite a lot of fearments that he'd get rid of all of the family including sheena and the boys and he would do so by shooting them julie said that jeremy thought that it would be easy to blame it all on his mentally ill sister that people would you know understand if she did something like this because they would blame it on the schizophrenia and he could just be seen as the poor victim who lost his whole family and then julie told them something pretty crazy and if it's true then case closed she said that jeremy called her on his way back from that dinner with his family that night and was saying how he was just at a breaking point with his family he was so annoyed with them and that he said it's tonight or never not only that julie says that he actually called her at 3am and said everything's going well something's gone wrong at the farm love ya talk to you later and the night of the murders when they were all standing outside of the house julie was taken to the farm to see jeremy and at one point he pulled her aside and whispered to her i should have been an actor she explained to police how she had questioned jeremy that night about him doing it and that he got really defensive and weird and he actually told her that it was the family plumber that he had hired the family plumber to do it and he carried out the murders so obviously after the police were told all this they wasted no time they went out and immediately arrested jeremy and the plumber however it didn't take long for them to verify that the plumber had an alibi but jeremy did not so now it's starting to look like jeremy did this he was put in jail but he obviously had a lot of dough so he bailed himself out and he got the hell out of america and went to amsterdam he immediately started selling off all his family's belongings from afar and he sold a lot of the parents stuff including their cars he was trying to squeeze every penny he could out of the situation and he even went to the extent of trying to sell nude photos that he found of his sister to a tabloid jeremy was an absolute savage however eventually he did roll back into town on september 29th and was arrested immediately his trial began on october 3rd 1986 and the prosecution argued that jeremy was responsible for the whole crime and that he was using sheila as a way to get away with the murders the prosecution talked about how neville had all those defensive marks on himself and that he likely had tried to fight back and this is key because sheila was very small and her father was very big and it's unlikely it would have been that hard for him to fight back against her or she would have had some marks from him he had clearly fought someone who was somewhat matched in his size obviously the defense argued that this was sheila and she did this because she was struggling with her mental health obviously they were able to pull up all her old records from the mental hospitals that she had been to and they saw that she had been saying things like my kids are the devil i want to kill myself i want to kill my kids and this did not look good but isn't it possible that jeremy knew that this wouldn't look good so he used her as a tool they also brought up the crime scene and how everyone was found with blood on them dried blood except for sheila's hers was still somewhat recent so they argued that maybe she was alive a lot longer than the rest of them and that she killed herself after a certain amount of time of realizing that she was not going to get away with this the defense even argued that maybe she was still alive when the police showed up and that she decided to kill herself after they were waiting outside she knew there was no escape but wouldn't they have heard gunshots from outside the house i mean it's just an old farmhouse so that was obviously pretty weak and the case against jeremy and everything that he was saying and doing and his possible motive were just really strong so both sides made their closing arguments the jury went into deliberation and it only took them nine hours to come back with a guilty verdict for jeremy and he was given five life sentences so absolutely no chance of parole however these murders are still debated to this day a lot of people think that it was sheila that did it and that jeremy was blamed some people think that his girlfriend julie was just lying because she was mad at him and wanted to see him go down even though she knew it wasn't him without julie it's quite possible that he wouldn't have been found guilty jeremy claims that he's innocent as well so of course you know that i want to know what you think do you think sheila did it mainly because of her mental illness or do you think jeremy did it to get all of his family's money and to get rid of his family members that controlled him for so long let me
