way back when in the tender and innocent year of 2014 little Ben 11 was actually a pretty big fan girl of The Five Nights at Freddy's franchise whenever he wasn't swallowing Orbeez or biting his classmates considering he could easily piss his pants at the mere side of a ski ass individual in broad daylight surrounded by puppies kittens and EMS workers Five Nights at Freddy's was a pretty good ground zero to introduce him to horror gaming as a whole without permanently scarring his psyche for life a dense and creepy atmosphere gameplay Loops that make you feel helpless and creature design that is genuinely pretty good at capturing The Uncanny Valley are all reasons why the game franchise was something that I enjoyed but its accessibility as an entry-level horror experience was the reason why it helped me to see the value in horrific entertainment moving forward from that point fast forward to the era where Ben 11 is ranting about realistic foliage and kids movies and is let's it still probably biting his classmates and his enjoyment of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise has very much declined the games are not really all that scary past the second night and the lore is about as cohesive and well told as a movie written by Tommy weo while he's overdosing on methamphetamine and fazu all in one go that's not at all to say that I dislike the franchise though because I still think that there's a copious amount of qualities that I respect qualities like the somewhat fun and engag enging gameplay the super tangible atmosphere filled with great art Direction and sound design and especially the fact that this game was a catalyst for my bubble-blowing horror hating Kitty brain to engage in even scarier things within the future like the FNAF community and you know what I've got to come out and say that these same qualities are legitimately nowhere to be found within this new member of The Five Nights at Freddy's hey hey so sorry I wasn't able to finish earlier as I was saying the Five Nights at Freddy's movie is kind of a an utter failure on all fronts when you really think hey hey excuse me I'm just trying to provide an outside perspective that the Five Nights at Freddy's movie really might not be that great of a mo okay yeah no I get it I liked pointing my finger at Matt Pat with my chica beak wide open too but there's there's some stuff to the film as well including the acting the horror the uh stop having fun the Five Nights at Freddy's movie was created by blumhouse Productions who are responsible for a myriad of different entertainment atomic bombs such as Truth or Dare unfriended and even Paranormal Activity the ghost Dimension the film also Stars Josh Hutcherson playing Mike Schmidt and the plot centers around his sister that he'll lose custody of if he doesn't get a job working at Freddy's and there's a mean aunt and ghost children needless to say I really wasn't expecting that much from the script written on a Chuck-E-Cheese napkin by Jason Blum and Scott Kon in an afternoon for this film but at the bottom of the barrel least I was expecting it to be just a little bit scary here and there however the animatronics in this film feel like the most unbelievably harmless horror movie antagonist I've ever laid my cameras upon this is due to a myriad of different reasons one of which is that the film seems very confused as to what kind of tone it actually wants to present around the midpoint of the film there's a scene where Mike zit and his sister and a random policewoman all baned together with the animatronics to build a fort this is the kind of scene you would find directly out of something like like How to Train Your Dragon with antagonist turned friend and all that but the difference here is that there is absolutely no transition from murder to moral literally 5 minutes earlier chica's little ankle biting cupcake was turning a dude's face into Hamburger Helper but now we're having a goofy little giggle about how Bonnie fell down but he gave a thumbs up so he's actually okay the integration of scenes like this really just kind of undercut the horror of the film and make me feel very confused as to what exactly they were trying to do another contributing factor to how the harmless monsters in this film feel as though I could trust them with watching over a frontal lobe Factory for the night without a single one going missing has to do with four simple words PG13 now I'm not at all saying that PG-13 horror can't be effective but you definitely need to be a bit more creative to scare the audience through atmosphere and imagery without explicitly showing any of the horrific stuff you're implying which might I add is something that the game franchise does really well the five nights at fety movie however feels as though it's made for the type of people who comb the comment sections of Markiplier videos for full Excel spreadsheets of exactly when each and every jump scare happens like bro I'm sorry that the jump scare that's made specifically to startle you actually start L you instead of making the viewer feel helpless the film creates scares in a way where it really doesn't work if you don't show the consequences one of the most indicative examples of this is when the movie desperately tries to recreate the spring lock failure for the big screen this one hits particularly hard because the spring lock failure presented in the game is genuinely horrific to think about and see in the way that it's presented seeing the spring locks of a suit compress all around the purple guy in 8bit Gra grac absolutely lacerating his entire body makes me feel incredibly however the film has pus generating 13 attached to its hip so the best they're able to do is lightly tickle the purple guy in the stomach a little bit there is no tension no disturbance not a shred of horror to be found in this scene which is an incredible shame because this is easily the most horrific part of the game [Music] [Applause] l oh shoot wait I'm so sorry was that was that too scary sorry that's my bad here I I'll go ahead and uh fix it up real quick okay and all right perfect okay hopefully that's a bit better oh God that's so horrible another aspect of this film that is severely lacking is the plot itself which feels like it's written by a boardroom of geriatric 80-year-olds while walking on their desk treadmills with IVs pumping prune juice directly into their veins this is evident through the film focusing way too intensely on aspects that don't even make it feel like a Five Nights at Freddy's movie while also absolutely fumbling the bag off a cliff anytime they tried to reference the game I honestly couldn't care less about Mike smooth brain and his attempts to reconnect to his past memories through dream theory but the movies spends such a significant amount of time on this plot Point not only is the acting from this kid in his dreams horrendous but the idea of a person trying to reconnect with his past due to grief of causing his brother's disappearance should be the main focal point of an actually decent indie film with The Talented director not a side piece to the FNAF movie as a way to argue that it's I guess actually a movie with a plot and not just animatronic puppets for 2 hours the amount of absolute Lolly gagging they go through with all this boring pretty boy Hutcherson underdeveloped character drama honestly makes me wish I was actually watching nothing but animatronic puppets I don't know doing a conga line for 2 hours or something not only only that but the sparse moments where the game actually shows its animatronic face through references are kind of embarrassing I always come back was that The Bite of 87 this line makes absolutely no sense in the actual context of the film since this is the first time we are being properly introduced to this character hello Internet welcome to G name Theory the reason this line doesn't work within the movie is because William Aton never actually came back before he said it the ending of Five Nights at Freddy's 3 greets the player with a news article titled fast be fright Burns to the ground this led many players to believe in the fiery death of springtrap AKA purple guy AKA total SLE bag of a pizzeria owner who murdered kids within his restaurant like who does that anyways this isn't actually the case because if you print out this image take it to these exact coordinates and offer a virgin sacrifice to Scott Kon himself it is revealed that springtrap survived the [Music] fire I know I know I was just as shocked as you were but to continue with the video all of this evidence points towards Freddy Fazbear being a solid 3' 7 in in the lower of the oh gosh sorry I don't know what came over me there by the way I wrote this bit before Matthew Patrick decided to hop skip and a jump away from YouTube [Music] so the integration of this line makes about as much sense as the entire plot of security breach when you really think about it they just need to incorporate aspects of the game in a way that makes sense within the actual context of the film and doesn't feel about as awkward is my little cousin who won't shut up about all the evidence for why Vanessa and vany are the same character qualities that are very similar between the two of them yeah all right I'm going to stop ranting about this movie before I pop more blood vessels than Mike Schmidt's lifeless body stuffed inside the FNAF one suit and hey remember stay frosty stay frantic and most of all stay Freddy okay that the worst thing I'm going to end it here
