So we're starting a new show together, Sonic Boom, and we need a theme song. We're in a really expensive studio, and I don't know about you, but I started my career in a basement with basically garbage and no money, so this is really exciting. We might as well take advantage of it. Let's use everything. We're gonna use everything we can and make it as expensive as possible. Let's do it. Okay, so we'll try and write it first, right? Just like a melody. Maybe we'll start on the right, and it just kinda makes sense to write it on the- And just go across? Yeah, to make sure we get everything, because we have a lot of great gear here. Let's be systematic for once. Yeah, and if we're trying to make it expensive, like this piano--
- Okay, yeah, we got four mics on this piano. One, two, three, four mics, so we're already pretty expensive. That's a lot, okay. Theme songs aren't what they used, I don't know. Some cartoons had minute-long intros back in the day.
- Yeah, we can't do that on YouTube. This is YouTube, I think we just need to be like, ba-da-ba-ba-boop. Ooh, and since it's Sonic Boom, that's when a ton of things happen, - Yeah!
- And we can add a bunch of Sonic Boom. And then we're in the theme song. Oh, I love that. That's really fun, right? What if we just sing what we think the show feels like? Yeah. Ba-da-ba-ba-boop. Ba-da-ba-ba-boom, ba-dee-doo-dee-bow. Just enough to, like Ba-da-ba-ba-boo
- Ba-ba-ba-ba! Ba-ba-da-ba-da-boo, Sonic Boom. I feel like I'd be better at writing this on a guitar. Yeah, yeah, maybe we'll start with a guitar. I like it starting with that ne-er-r-r of the piano. Yeah, that's great. As much as I would like to make everything about guitars all the time. It's a cool watch, looks expensive. Maybe we'll use it. Maybe like--
- Ooh, I got a few ideas. Okay.
- Okay, what do you think about either, or, Oh, and then after that, maybe there's a da-do-do from another instrument. Maybe just one note? Bow! Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's better. Yeah. Is that a theme? That's it. I think we're ready to go. We should grab a click. And this is a real 1975 Fender P-Bass. And then this guitar retails for this. We're using a few DIs over here. Yeah, cables. Awesome.
- Add up all the cables. Oh, we should use the board though. Turn all the pedals on. Ha ha ha ha! Do you have one that can pitch shift me up an octave and another that can pitch shift me down? Ha ha ha ha! All right, I think we're ready to go. One, two, three. Okay, okay, moving on. Awesome. Now we gotta do piano. Yes. Ooh, dude, the piano could just be, ba da da da da da da da da da da boom. Yeah, that's what it is. And then we can add, if we have everyone on staff doing a boom, then it's like, because we've also had to hire them for the day. And what's their value as a human being? That could rack up real quick. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. All right. Okay, I'm gonna do this. Yes. Can we track two things at the same time? Should I play a second bass on top? Yeah, yeah. Where's that slide? You got it? Awesome. Thank you, Sophie. Nice. All right, I'm ready. Add those to the tally. I guess I'll pick up the next acoustic guitar. Nice. You haven't done the Ibanez yet. Oh yeah, yeah. My first guitar, so I mean, I wouldn't sell it for very cheap, but it's probably not worth more than like $400. Awesome. All right, onto the next. Cool, I got it. Oh wait, hold on, I gotta get this in drop D. Why'd we choose drop D? Is that a ukulele? It's a ukulele bass. Cool. That was good. Cool, all right, this guy, this is the mando guitar. Oh, it's so close to having the D. If I tune this up, is it gonna...? I mean, go a little bit, yeah. Oh, I knew it. Nooooo! Well, we're gonna add the price of a new string on there. Big banjo and baby banjo. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I don't have headphones, like an idiot. I don't even know how to put them on. Yeah. All right. Nailed it. Cool, nailed it. All right, let's move on. Everything on this, oh no, octave mandolin. I mean, you've been loving this one. You should take that. Cool, oh, I love this thing. There, I just gotta bend it a little bit. We still gotta get the upright bass. Yeah, upright bass into the ribbon mic. So a little history lesson or what I know of it. The first time that we really had high quality microphones, they were ribbon mics. And if you can find an original one, they are really, really old, really, really fragile and really expensive. These are about $10K. And from the late '30s, early '40s, probably. There are spit particles on that older than our parents. Yeah, definitely. I do know what I paid for this bass. I think it was around $3,000 Canadian. Oh, wow. So like $10 US. Ha ha ha ha! Oh, I can help you by just having the note ready. Now drums, right? Oh, we need to use these snares too. Extra snares, yeah. If other people could hold up the snares, like a da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da. You know what, maybe it's more like the fill at the beginning is all of them. Oh wait, okay, here's what it's gonna be. Thanks, Sophie. Oh, could someone choke this? Yeah, Andrew, if you could. And then, oh, if someone else could...Kyah? Could you also choke this one? Thanks. 'Cause there's gonna be so much going on. So it's just, Oh, I need to use the double kick. The last hit I'll use with the left and the one I'll use with the right. Cool, all right, I'm ready. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There it is, awesome. Thanks guys. Everybody. Every part of the kit. Help with that. Oh, I had one more percussion idea from earlier. Mike that works here at the studio I had a really fancy watch on. Mike, I get that watch from you. Oh, yeah. Just borrow it. I swear I'll give it back. Oh dude, your necklace too? Oh damn. The most gentle mugging ever. I think we're gonna sample some jewelry. Yeah, that sounds good. Got it, cool. Oh yeah, necklace too. Do you wanna do it? I don't wanna like, I'll do it, yeah. Let's get something metal. What's something metal and expensive? A laptop. We get a laptop. Yeah, just drop it on the laptop. Yeah, bring my laptop over. Yeah, that's fun. Yeah, that sounds expensive. Okay. I feel like this is really expensive already but we got all my synths to do. Just gonna go through the synth station. Should we do it at the same time? Just to save time? Sure, yeah. That's awesome. Yeah, we'll put that there. We got the Rhodes here. Cool. Oh, hold on. Do I need to patch up every module? Oh yeah. Oh, and we have some stuff here. Oh, every single instrument under there. Yeah, we'll go through those all. Oh, Mike, dude, do you have like a box of percussion instruments over here? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got a bin. Oh, yes. And I can do every single one. Oh, sweet. Oh, there's so much gear in here. Okay, so I'm just going, we have a bunch of small percussive instruments there. And if you can just hit the mic and press record, I can go up and just get a ting. Yeah, cause that way, cause he's literally patching every single module in there. So it's gonna take him a little bit. Da, da, da, trying to use every module. How do I do this? Is there a better way to do this, Andrew? Yeah, there's some way where you hit it and it like, you pitch bend it while it goes. Oh, I'll just give it one hit with that then. All right, that's all the percussion then. Wow, that sounds pretty intelligible for using every module. Are you able to put every single one in there? We got most of them. Oh, okay. There'd be just a bunch of things that aren't actually doing anything. Yeah, that's okay. But this is a lot. It's four different voices, all like layered together, going through like a couple of distortions and compression. Cool, yeah, that's expensive. Yeah, a lot of stuff. I think that's it. Let's try it. Okay, so these three, these three are next. Yes. You put your mouth on those, so I'll just let you handle them. Nice. This is like the most expensive kazoo in the world. I think it was like 50 bucks. 50 bucks for a kazoo? Well, Canadian, so yeah. Wait, that's an electric kazoo? Yeah, it's got a pickup on it. I guess it's probably just a piezo. Ready! What is this, Andrew? It's called the Pipe. It's actually just a super fancy kazoo. It's like fun to do this right after the kazoo. Whoa. Sounds so dope. Sounds awesome. Okay, let's do it. Yeah, the most interesting high note, because when it gets the high note, it's, yeah. All right, you like that one? Let's do it. Cool. Oh, wait, wait, we still have this weird synth. Yeah, so I'll just get it to do a slow drop that we can use. Yeah, that's our swoop in. We just get one of those. Yeah, there's something in there. Okay, so now we can do the vocals. It's a stereo tube mic, late '50s, early '60s, and then it's got two boxes for pattern control. That is so heavy duty here. Hold on, let me switch the polar pattern. Yeah, and that means for, if you want to take a look at this, mics are made to pick up sounds in certain directions. So if you wanted it just to pick up behind or in front, just in front, omni, which is everywhere, just as loud, that was a really, really big deal in '59. And they don't make them of this anymore, definitely. This is a piece of history. BOOM Awesome. Okay, now let's get just us individually. Oh, sweet, yeah, yeah. I mean, we have the omni patterns. You stand there and I'll stand here. Let me change it. Change it both to figure eight. I want to turn one. Yeah, you turn one. Oh, yeah, that's so satisfying. BOOM Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom. Yeah, sweet. Okay. Oh, let me get a D. So this is $30,001. There's a Wurlitzer and a piano just in the break room. You just get brrrrumble. Let's do it. So I'll do this one with my phone. All right, I'll do this one with mine later. Cool. One, two, three. Oh, I didn't press record. Got it. Should we just start going around the studio? There's some instruments in here. Howdy. Can we just get like a dee-doo-dee-doo-doo on those guitars? Yeah, sure thing. That'd be awesome. Thanks. Cool. Okay, there's got to be expensive stuff in here. Couple more guitars. Well, this is a Fender Strat. It's American made Fender, so it's expensive. Yeah, Gibson Les Paul, made in the USA. We could press the buttons on these. That's a very expensive, nice piece of machinery. One's a quarter inch reel to reel, the other's a two inch, which are Swedish, real expensive stuff. stuff. One, two, three. All right. I guess we get people's cars, right? Cars are expensive. How many cars do we have? How many cars do we have? Phil's here. Cool, let's get a honk. I love that it's the lav mic we're recording into. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. What was that outboard gear you used for this? You used a lot of VSTs. Oh, that's true, yeah. Sidecar there, those were used. We used the board. Yeah, we used the board. Did we use any of these distressors too? We did use distressors. Got your drums here, all the way through here, your piano, and hammers and body there. All the synths went through here, the harpejji. Oh, we didn't do harpejjis in the theme song. Oh, we got to do harpejji. If we're going to still get the harpejji pickup, can we just pipe it through every single remaining thing? Yeah, I mean, that really wouldn't... Nice, we got it. All right, that's the video, I think, yeah? We did it. So that's the most expensive audio ever, maybe. This is all for our new show, Sonic Boom. It's going to be a real fun time, the two of us hanging out. We also got a house band. Can you guys give us a little...? Yeah. Yeah, pretty good. We got them on staff. Those guys are going to be with us. And yeah, subscribe for more. Yeah, here's our theme song. Boom! So we're starting a new show together-- Oh, we should say the name of the show. Oh yeah. - Yeah.
- We should.
