howdy welcome to the monster hunter iceberg of course this will contain spoilers for basically every game monster hunter is a massive franchise with over 17 games from mainline to spin-off to convenient mobile games like its monsters the series has certainly evolved over the years this iceberg is a compilation of icebergs created by randizer droshan on reddit and a cozy goji on twitter some subjects have been combined for continuity and some additional points have been added level one the sky one tale of the five the book tale of the five can be found on the player's bedside table in monster hunter world and it essentially acts as a form of creation story for the world wherein the five dragons in their bodies were responsible for all things originally the world was a timeless eternity wherein it was said that nothing was ever lost yet nothing was ever gained only changing when people asked the dragons about this particular state of existence as a result the five dragons bodies became a special island wherein one became the land the next the sky and mountains the third the lakes and rain the fourth the forests and the fifth the sapphire star it also reveals the existence of this island of the five wherein time does not flow in the traditional sense remaining unchanging and steadfast the people granted scales from the five by a youth that managed to reach this island were then able to quote create their own lands and mountains end quote and everything else as the dragons themselves had done due to the now vastness of this land it was said that day and night the seasons the ways time and life and death themselves were born due to this book's presence in monster hunter world its unique biomes as an island how the fleet was led there by the sapphire star like the youth of old there are those that believe the island of the five is the new world could the intrusion of people have begun the flow of time here two the tower the tower is a crumbling structure that pierces through the clouds above supposedly constructed with kushala one is an available perilous task even for a team of experienced hunters but for this tower how many needed to be killed is the entire tower constructed from its biomass or is this building material merely infused with bits and pieces to strengthen it regardless due to its sheer size it isn't hard to imagine just how many of this now rare creature was killed for such a monument could this be the reason for this elder dragon scarcity almost hunted to extinction for such parts did such a merciless onslaught result in a natural correction by the monsters that they retaliated in mass ensuring that its creators would never be able to enjoy the use of the monstrous structure they had created three dead gypseros and the hollow in the sunken hollow gibseros have a nasty tactic of playing dead in the middle of a fight luring hunters in who attempt to carve this seemingly fallen beast this allows it to launch a surprise attack at close quarters on the hunter why does it do this it is not a one-off event and so seems to be a learned behavior even attempting it more than once during any given battle it does not seem to simply fall unconscious as it deliberately imitates its death throws as it collapses to the ground and then immediately attacks the close and unsuspecting hunter is this simply a natural response of playing dead as a possum might to discourage other monsters that may actually kill it as they lose interest or like some other notable monsters is it smart enough to enact such a tactic to gain an advantage over a human hunter switching the roles of the two 4 the new world one of the most fascinating aspects of the new world besides much of its unexplored nature was a documented behavior of elder dragons to seek out this island to die why as an isolated island without a history of people perhaps it was once seen as a sacred place to return to in a sense similar to how some sea turtles can remember the exact place of their birth or birds that can sense directions through the magnetic field could there be something innate in their physiology that similarly pulls dead zora magdaros zora magdaros is a colossal elder dragon encountered early on in world presumably it was headed to the rotten veil to die like the other elder dragons after making a journey to the new world however it seems that it was ultimately being pulled instead to the ever stream a potentially cataclysmic event that would see the incredible release of zora magdaros's extensive bioenergy that would result in the ever stream and the new world's destruction it was led away and left to die in the ocean presumably to create a whole new ecosystem given that its sheer biomass may create such an ecosystem how often has this happened before to where the commission is aware of this furthermore seen later in the game is a location or island referred to as the guiding lands through the mists one can see the spiky mountains that look like the back of the elder dragon now lush with vegetation and it is here that the skull of a dead zora magdaros can be found is this a separate elder dragon or the one we drove off before demonstrating the rapid development of an ecosystem at unheard of levels 8. ancient civilization said to have died out countless centuries ago the ancient civilization was responsible for many ruins that still exist such as the tower the sky corridor and the cloud viewing fortress it is through their relics weapon blueprints notes on elder dragons and other monsters that have given the modern peoples the noted success and knowledge they have today they were known to kill monsters and droves using their parts to build their grand structures as work slaves and presumably to guard their ruins it is noted in the sky corridor that monsters have unusual eerie auras around them that reflect their strong connection with this lost society and mesoporches guild also seemed to note that they attacked hunters and protected certain levels of the sky corridor were they raised by this civilization and treated better perhaps honored even resulting in their loyalty or were they beaten and punished far worse than anything a hunter may do to them resulting in their vicious protection of the ruins lest their ancient masters return or do these creatures see some resemblance of the denizens of the ancient civilization in the hunters seeking to eradicate them for what they had done to their fellows could these ruins all have been an attempt to reclaim the eternity that they were separated from when the world was made and time and death began to creep upon them all in an attempt to reach the sapphire star their last hope and the guiding light for the modern people of the world they created structures that reached past the clouds in an attempt to reach it in kind in addition to slaughtering countless monsters for their buildings they performed what is known as the forbidden act as they created their own life by taking the lives of dragons and monsters the equal dragon weapon or wyvern machine soldier was created from 30 horses worth of dragons and it was this act combined with all other losses of life which led to the great dragon war as described in the legend of the black dragon most dragons went extinct and the ancient civilization was summarily eliminated 9. joke weapons the franchise has a long history of joke weapons such as ones that resemble a stuffed teddy bear or various food items they do still function as weapons but how and why are they crafted in the first place the use of these weapons demonstrates an almost childlike mentality or jokiness to the brutal act of killing monsters and taking the lives they are assigned are they just meant for fun to taunt semi-intelligent monsters to bolster hunter morale through horrible hunts or something else the teddy bear hammer has a sleeping effect which one may imagine is released by the very fabric and stuffing beating against a beast the toxins or fumes inherently deadly to a monster but not a human 10. size charts generally speaking monster size charts refer to the overall length of the monster and have routinely demonstrated the sheer scope and size of many of the monsters seen in the modern day games of course then we have creatures such as the standard dalamata at a little over 1044 feet or a little over 440 meters this is gargantuan in the rotten veil what appears to be a dolomoto skeleton can be found making up much of the space however this skeleton is even bigger than that with many estimating it must be in excess of at least seven thousand meters completely dwarfing the ones we know today the art book actually explains that there are extinct species of dalamata with the ones we see in the modern timelines being the much smaller descendants perhaps they with other megafauna monsters were wiped out as alluded to in the great dragon war and the creatures we know today pale in comparison to the power of the ones that came before 11. the perfect enemy of humanity fatalis known as the evil dragon or the perfect enemy for humanity is an elder dragon that lives in the ruins of shrod kingdom this incredibly powerful creature brought total ruin to all civilizations it wanted to destroy even being intelligent enough to copy the ancient civilization's inventions for the monster's own use reversing the sacrificial role in creating new life it was said that fatalis would melt the bodies of fallen humans and hunters onto its body so it could wear them like they wore its brethren 12. the edw and the great dragon war the edw or equal dragon weapon utilized during the great dragon war is described as thus the equal dragon weapon was discovered in some ruins an ancient storage facility it is possibly the only remaining weapon of war from the age of the great dragon war this man-made dragon was pieced together from parts harvested from over 30 mature dragons however artificial the equal dragon weapon boasts a might comparable to any living dragon its physical strength endurance and firepower are said to have posed the most relevant threat to the dragons during the ancient war the technology behind crafting an equal dragon weapon reached its pinnacle during the great dragon wars but that technology along with the great dragon hunters of the day ancestors the modern day monster hunters were not destined to last the humans engaged the dragons in a war of epic scale with both sides extremely docile however it breaks through and seems to approach and endanger a town leading to the hunter being assigned to kill it in actuality many believe it wasn't frenzied or intentional in such movements but was instead purely fleeing from fatalis why would it flee from fatalis who is known for its hatred of people not dragons some believe that fatalis warped by its hatred will kill and feast off of anything that comes near it eliciting such a fear response and a massive elder dragon that it would charge right through a human settlement despite the dangers simply because it was a better option and route for escape did fatalis use this sphere to direct its fellows during the great dragon war just what did lao shang lung know about vitalis to impact it so 14. the huntsman the huntsman is a veteran hunter and member of the first fleet that lives in astera in the new world many have speculated that he is the character in wrathian armor in the freedom unite trailer coinciding with his seeming age and appearance 15 generations as explained by capcom during the release and naming of monster hunter world each base game logo or emblem features the equivalent number of wyvern heads in relation to its generation thus allowing for the breaking of the numerical title convention with monster hunter world but keeping the visual numerical aesthetic 16. moga woods in the moga woods hunters are generally only able to free hunt as in the hunter will not be given a quest to hunt down any specific monsters in this area why interestingly after you defeat a certain species of monster through quests another of its species will most likely show up in the rotation during a free hunt in moga woods is this area some form of preserve wherein monsters are released or otherwise left to their own devices no longer being deemed as threats after more of their physiology and behavioral patterns are observed 17. variance versus deviance while on the surface variance and deviants of monsters seem quite similar in what they represent the processes through which they attain these unique classifications has been argued to be intrinsically different variants for example are a new world the only bug monster scene are barely able to be called monsters with the likes of the diminutive vespoid or horntar for example noticeably absent only in world and reappearing and rise insect monsters like the celtus queen are nowhere to be found some have speculated that like their real world counterparts their niche and the ecosystem may have already been replaced in the new world for example generally speaking insects aerate the soil pollinate blossoms and control insect and plant pests many insects especially beetles are scavengers feeding on dead animals and fallen trees thereby recycling nutrients back into the soil which seems to be filled by other creatures in this new world perhaps even xenojiva who takes in biomass energy and maybe it's easily handled by the smaller insects found here which find just enough nutrients to sustain small numbers of their kind and their equally small forms 19 mysterious fish a mysterious fish named the sea lord's crest is caught to complete the concealed mystery trophy its notes state that these beauties lurk at the bottom save when servicing to feed by night they're so rare they're said to be familiars of the sea god what sea god are they referring to is this a not the tales of the five and the one that became the ocean the waters or is it a simple old wives tale passed down or something more 20. black diablos and heat considered a subspecies by the hunter's guild the black diablos is actually a female diablos in heat the rich black coloration potentially serving as a warning to trespassers of its heightened aggression and physical state they are said to even attack their own kind during this time period 21. shara ishvalda looks at the player many fans have claimed that shara ishvalda looks at the player not the hunter adding to its unsettling and otherworldly visage however given that shara's eyes are noted as being fixed perhaps it is due to a visual illusion aided by the stylistic direction that coincide with buddha's statue which fits its theme it has to do with the positioning of the eyes on the face at an angle the size round shape of the eyes the concave curve to it and with a little extra help for the mostly transparent layer covering it observe the given picture and tilt the screen or your head left right and so on and it should still have the appearance of watching you 22. plessy off hitbox a source of ire among fans of multiple iterations of games in the franchise are the hitboxes for plessios particularly its hip check hitbox that was seemingly corrected in 3u onwards originally the hitbox was a literal rectangle that surrounded the plesios from head to tail tip despite being a simple hip check and being behind it or a considerable distance away on its front side energy released by these dragons so that they cannot be absorbed by xenogeeva 24. legiacris skills and issues the supposed reason that legiacris was not included in monster hunter world instead returning in later games was due to its skeleton and subsequent animations that were unnatural or otherwise flawed making properly copying in their movements and behaviors impossible at the time 25 prototype ancient forest as shown in the prototype hunt footage for world anjanath can be seen climbing the tree after you and an actual lagiacris emerged snapping up the ancientath and its jaws and flinging it aside before turning to the player supposedly the legiacris was meant to be the apex of the ancient forest but was ultimately removed due to the previous issues and replaced by rathalos 26. monster hunter movie the monster hunter movie was met with much ire by longtime fans and middling reviews as modern military soldiers from our world were teleported into a desert region in the monster hunter world however the implications of this could perhaps point to the later incursions of geralt and the lesson from the witcher world or the behemoth from final fantasy the sky tower is home apparently to a portal that allows artemis to return to our real world and thus she believes that sky tower and its portal capabilities could later release these monsters upon our world assuming it was created by the ancient civilization what is still powering this seeming portal and will it continue to factor into later games 27 copper blunganga unlike the main blunganga which is larger and is noted as being the stronger alpha of the troop the khabar blanganga evolved due to the loss of its troop of blango so it grew larger and stronger in order to survive which seems like it should classify it as a variant although it is not labeled as such 28. monster hunter does pvp in monster hunter stories 2 the option to hold pvp play in which four monster riders in teams of two fight alongside a chosen monster against the other team can be found players as well as their monsters or monsters are attacked and defeated in this event similar to encounters with human enemy riders in game is this scene in universe as a mere training routine as it takes place in the arena or is it more of a blood sport parts can be broken and monsters seriously injured if battle status updates are to be believed so who would actually fight another capable monster rider or monster in such a dangerous match 29. dundorma is constantly attacked by elder dragons as stated then dorma is constantly attacked by other elder dragons and part of this location is in absolute ruins due to this but the reason is never explicitly stated the norma is the headquarters of the elder dragon observation center so could this be a result of the intelligent elder dragons attempting to disrupt their research into them and their weaknesses the dormer is actually quite close to castle shrod one of many ruins of the ancient civilization and where fatalis who hates all human life is said to reside perhaps it is the all-powerful fatalist that orders constant attacks upon the town so that they too will know the fear of constant attack and death that monster kind suffered for countless years 30. apex triple meaning apex monsters are said to have overcome the frenzy becoming far more powerful and ferocious than others of their kind and they are capable of leading hordes of other monsters into battle what exactly is this frenzy that they overcome this links back to the frenzy virus an infectious disease caused by the dander-like wing scales and breath attacks of gourmangala chaotic gourmagala and shigaru magala affecting both hunters and monsters alike this virus while not fatal to humans and only lasts for a short period of time is fatal to monsters after a few days during this time they have heightened aggression speed and strength just like apex monsters thus apex monsters are able to retain the powers gained from the virus while continuing to live and thrive thus becoming the apex creatures of their ecosystem even rivaling some elder dragons 31 two teams there are actually two teams responsible for the monster hunter franchise one is responsible for the main series and the other is responsible for the portable series additionally the portable team also made generations generations ultimate while the main team was working on world and there seems to be some idea exchange between the teams most likely to ensure canon and material is respected 32. rathalos and rothian redesigns in the old designs rathalos had four talons or toes side by side and the new design which features and try had three front toes and the wings and their membranes attached further back along the body for example for the most part this is also true for wrathians 33. steve sorakios is often referred to as steve as a staff member from capcom named the upcoming monster steve before perhaps referencing the monster cover-up on famitsu's feature on monster hunter world with the issue expected to be released on september 7th it was posted just six days earlier by gaijin hunter 37 false lore one particularly upsetting trend is that of certain fans creating misleading videos concerning false lore presented as canon online a few names routinely pop up concerning such accusations and some have proven to use pc mods in order to create false lore or hard to enact events to push their own channels or theories are simply taken as pure can in fact and some fans have become enraged when their theory is disproven at a later date by actual canon evidence as such one should take such videos with a heaping spoonful of salt 38. souls-like a souls-like also known as soulsborne is a sub-genre of action-role-playing games known for high levels of difficulty and emphasis on environmental storytelling inspired by the dark fantasy genre and repeated player character death being portal or slip between worlds diablos and the like and nurseilla not depicted here because i am terrified of spiders seemed to go through a redesign for the movie and lived in large groups perhaps this wasn't a simple redesign but a new variant or deviant that has learned to survive in such an area where falls through realities are more common and potentially dangerous opponents may appear thus they have learned to integrate into small colonies or numbers to protect themselves 43. false subspecies a subspecies is usually a very very close relative of the base monster they sport different coloration different move sets and often different elements or statuses a lot of gen 1 and gen 2 subspecies are false the most famous example being black diablos which is simply a female in heat and is in fact the same species and most likely generally just a temporary coloration that would return after the mating season saying that black diablos is a subspecies would be like saying two of a certain species of cuttlefish are actually subspecies because one has temporarily changed its colors in order to avoid detection by a predator 44. waving at airships numerous instances have seen normal people on the ground simply waving at airships to get their attention such as the handler and monster hunter world why does she do this and does the airship actually see her in real life a large sos or sign in the sand or perhaps a large smoke or fire is necessary to be seen by a plane even somewhat high up so how can such a small gesture be seen and readable interestingly at least in older monster hunter games if you perform the gesture wave at an airship in the sky they'll generally signal on your map where the monster you're hunting is they do have an eye in the sky and can presumably see over the map you are on aiding you but why don't they just tell you directly prior to the wave how do they communicate this information to you and how do they see you is it just one person's job to track you with a telescope at all times 45 relic records in monster hunter rise relic records may be found and the ones of the shrine ruins tell the story of some of these past humans they lived an abundance of many gods living there and after they left with lightning it is said that the people began to gather in this blessed land erecting many a shrine to venerate the departed gods but the people ultimately grew arrogant and the land suffered but then the gods returned chasing the humans away which is why we see the ruins of their old village as time devour the people's shrines and prayers but eventually pure water and rich soil return to nurture life the records from the frost island detail the ship that is found there and the people who found this cursed land and their fate the sandy plains tell of an old hunter who longed to return home a map showed that his village was just over the horizon but an unfamiliar wasteland sprawled between him and it and several days passed with no sign of his home anywhere he began to fear some fault in the map had led him astray and it is ultimately revealed that his home and lands were buried under the sand in the time he had gone the lava caverns tell of a study that was done there but was cut off by violent tremors and waves of monsters that emerged the final records tell of the rampage but alas our defenses fell one after another and then the hellfire beast attacked stealing our defeat but the writer here preserved to lead his or her people to safety in each of these events the sheer power of these monsters and gods cannot be understated almost all met a horrible end as they were attacked and forced to flee or die in each of these lands subsequently some theorize that these marches and rampages are the result of a new people coming in like the latest division and it is the next in a long line of attempts to drive them out for good 46. naruto references on the official monster hunter twitter the account says believe it give your feline a mythical aura with a nine-tailed paliko layered armor directly referencing the knight-tailed fox not only in japanese lore but in naruto further connected by the phrase believe it which is naruto's english phrase 47 serpent skeleton a creature teased in various art books is the ancient serpent which many fans believe is the skeleton found in world while the overall species is said to survive today its legs and wings have supposedly degenerated over time so the skeleton found here is one of a very ancient kind 48. monk snail it is also possible for this monk snail to roar when one emotes at it at the right time it is said that the monk snail hides under seed during the day and surfaces when night falls to eat squid and other things this may be what the bioluminescent shell is for with the light attracting plankton and fish which then attracts squid it is also quite large or giant and its form and big eyes are a reference to umibozu a yokai that is generally believed to appear to sailors on calm seas which quickly turn tumultuous it either breaks the ship on emergence or demands a bucket or barrel from the sailors and proceeds to drown them the only safe way to escape an umibozu is to give it a bottomless barrel and sail away while it is confused 49. ace cadet and world aiden is in fact the ace cadet that was the newest member of the ace hunters for monster hunter 4u and monster hunter generations he was a rookie in those games and now he is an a rank hunter setting out on his own with the fifth fleet 50 rise monsters based on yokai many of the monsters in monster hunter rise such as the aforementioned monk snail are based off of yokai to name just a few of these we have the great izuchi and the kamaitachi the acne-some resembling the casa obake or the umbrella ghost zanoger and raiju tentranodon and the kappa and the list goes on and on 51. invader monsters invader monsters generally appear nomadic meaning they can depicted on the map the wild spire waste is easily accessed from the ancient forest the sparse water that comprises the waste's swamp land is fed through the water from the ancient forest as noted by researchers and the pair are known as co-existing ecosystems as explained by the theory of coexistence a reduction in average fitness differences between species or an increase in niche differentiation between species mainly due to both equalizing and stabilizing mechanisms now tying this back in for equalizing mechanisms say barrios and anginats compete for the same resources and environment thus due to the available resources necessary to sustain each creature as well as their own capabilities the anginath is best suited to claim those resources in the ancient forest over the barrioth pukepuke after certain events may be found in the wildspire wastes thus creating more competition in the waste from an equalizing perspective and perhaps due to them being pushed out to some degree from the ancient forest on the other side stabilizing mechanisms refer to individuals from a specific species competing with others of its own kind rather than others again this could be the result of the phuket phuket's dual appearance being pushed out by its fellows the presence of these demonstrate the integrated coexisting ecosystems that balance one another between the two areas 53 monster hunter stories is canon by all intents and purposes it seems as if the events from the monster hunter story series is canon thus monster rioters regularly raise monsters dub monstees to fight alongside them why don't hunters then use this tactic simply put the ways of these isolated tribes are generally unknown and even less understood with hunter characters sometimes remarking on the monster's unpredictability and dangerous potential still the dangers presented in these games could impact the entire world the black blight which can only be cured by a writer's kinship stone couldn't mean that it could spread unchecked without these riders should it expand beyond these isolated shores and the sequel ultura a seeming sibling to xenojiva hatches and must be defeated before its world ending power spread will this be used as an excuse for the hunter's guild to supersede the rights of the local population and instill order in these areas 54. xeno chiva is a baby already giant upon its hatching from its chrysalis many believe xenogeeva is a mere baby which explains its relative clumsiness its lumbering and belated journey to use its wings and take flight and so on it is also referred to in game as a newborn this is terrifying for a number of reasons say it continued to grow and devour energy how big would it get and assuming that it learned to actually use its powers effectively what would one do to stop it level 2 the tip 55 the black dragon jiva according to the lore black dragons outclass even elder dragons and safi jiva was linked in a video where the url to the page was tagged with the word black dragon itself in game however it is referred to as a red dragon but is this just a misnomer or evidence of it being something else entirely to answer the earlier question of just what xeno jiva would turn into safi jiva is the adult or at least the adolescent form of xenojiva it has in fact honed its skills and uses them to deadly effect it is instantly violent towards all that approach it outright attacking and being even more aggressive than its younger form it sucks the energy from the land around it presumably destroying any life nearby after prolonged exposure does that mean that the otherworldly altura from monster hunter stories 2 would similarly become such a dragon or red or black dragon as it matured and what does it mean that such dragons are now being born or re-emerging into the world are they a sign that the world is meant to be started anew 56. valstrax and amatsu are rivals there are those that believe valstrax and amatsu are rivals valstrax is a generally nomadic monster most associated with a ruined pinnacle like valstrax amatsu may also be found and fought in the sacred pinnacle due to the small size of this area and the normally territorial nature of elder dragons and turf wars it is highly likely that these two regularly clash for supremacy over this area or areas could valstrax's weakness to water damage have given amatsu an advantage and it is for this reason that valstrax has become largely the more nomadic one pushed out of its homeland by amatsu 57 alatrion and oroshi kieran lakes before the rottenvale trailer released back in 2017 there was a pastebin leak containing a bunch of monster names in both english and japanese which would go on to reveal many added monsters in world for example oroshi kirin may not have been added while all of the other monsters were crossing each off the list such as alatrion and iceborn and the treasure dragon kolviteroth as well as a result many now believe that given the time span of still not being added oroshi kieran was scrapped from the game 58. frogs simply put frogs may be caught throughout the various games and used as a baited lure specifically to lure out zamtrios or such monsters 59. collaborations are canon given the continuous use of portals in the movies games and in the use of collaborations such as with the witcher and final fantasy series many believe these interactions to be canon in the lore as the world seems to validate such occurrences as plausible even if they don't necessarily relate or are from that world to begin with as such does this mean that monsters could bleed into any one world or reality at any given time are the creatures from the witcher our world or final fantasy thus all interconnected 60. monsters are evolved dinosaurs the idea that monsters are evolved dinosaurs helps to explain the very t-rex or allosaurus-esque anginath and others like the optinoff due to the supposed technological prowess of the ancient civilization their creation may have started with cloning in revival allah jurassic park and then became more weaponized like popular movies and media portray most humans and scientists may be a bit too curious in creating and combining genes to make cooler dinosaurs what's to say they didn't stop there on the other side others still believe that the portal through which characters and collaborations with other franchises go is the result of time travel to alternate realities that are wholly from the same one 61 custom quests a common issue that surfaced during monster hunter 4 ultimate's time was that of custom quests in effect someone hacked the game tweaking the codes in order to allow for custom quests to be created which may have potentially allowed three vitalis at once giant great jackies the possibilities are endless this along with generally cheating and breaking the rules of the game often allowed these users to get timelocked or other rare materials with ease 62. cerragios and basil geese are close relatives fans have speculated that serragios and basil geese are close relatives most likely branching off evolutionarily a long time ago both shed scales for combat by flinging them they both utilize the same landing animation and each have spike-like scale patterns around their necks tails and the edges of their wings others still brachidios in order to do this just kill brachidius only do not mind and then end via subquest and a high quantity of enduring talismans should be yours however it seems as if this method has now been patched 64. cutting velocipray in half seemingly kept until the third generation a great sword was able to fully cleave a velocipray in half resulting in an uncarvable dead monster thus hunters that did this only sought to kill taking no items or hide from the creature hunting for sport rather than survival 65. popodrome and beta asolos there are two interpretations of the popodrome the first is that the popodrome was the beta gammath resembling a large woolly mammoth with popo tusks the second possibly inspired by this sees a popodrome as a relatively popular custom quest that saw a modified large popo that had the capability of one shotting the player similar to the popo drone being a relatively large popo with a trunk the beta astolos used a wrathian base with spikes and a head crest superimposed upon it 66. devil joe eats its own tail tail carvings are a pleasant carving resource for rare parts and one may initially consider themselves lucky for severing the tail of the vicious devil joe however this monster will literally eat its own tail depriving you of that lovely carve it seems its voracious hunger will allow it to self-catalyze itself as long as the part in question is no longer attached to it as a result could this signify that it may be cannibalistic or actively fight others of its kind if hungry or desperate enough 67. carapaceans are urinating carapaceans a monster class modeled after hermit crabs and other crustaceans are actually peeing at you when they fire water at the hunter in real life hermit crabs like crayfish and most other crustaceans have organs generally called green glands that function essentially like human kidneys but are located above the mouth and esophagus and below the brain they secrete in very small amounts any non-solid liquid waste i.e urine thus all of its water attacks are most likely urine i suppose you could say you're in trouble 68 true elder dragons there are some fans that believe true elder dragons should be just that dragons or more specifically hexapod creatures four legs and two wings other such elder dragons such as kieran would thus not qualify the world and the tale of the five was created by five great dragons not elder dragons as with black dragons and other insanely powerful creatures they would be in a league and entity of their own symbolizing the perfect forms of the first dragons 69 15th weapon type in monster hunter world only 14 weapon types exist this has led many fans to speculate on a new one being added to round out the number with many drawing from previous weapons from past main and spin-off games such as the tonfa the medium bow gun the axel axe or accelerator or the magnet spike besides meta time constraints or mechanics it is unknown why these previous weapon styles have not yet been reintroduced into the mainline games 70. the word after censored and try and monster hunter try the word after was censored due to being considered a swear or inappropriate word in german or rather merely a term for someone's rear end to put it nicely 71 wyvern rex the wyvern rex is an extinct monster that was introduced in monster hunter frontier new world it is also the ancestor of all flying wyverns 72 feline village on the edge g monster hunter diary feline on the edge g is a canon chibi-style spin-off anime in the monster hunter world and it also features games based off of it 73. unknown black flying wyvern the unknown black flying wyvern first appeared in monster hunter frontier forward resembling a fusion between old world rathalos and wrathian save for its black and red accent color scheme additionally its wing claws are longer and feature a downward curvature the unknown was also the first monster to receive a supremacy subspecies 74. ian garuga is a crossbreed an npc passes on a rumor stating that ian garuga is a crossbreed of a yeon kutku and while some fans take this as more than a rumor many others believe it to be completely improbable for example the two parents come from different classifications as a bird and flying wyvern others have claimed that as it has no subspecies this could be the result of it being unable to breed akin to a mule from its parentage 75 the claw grip as a result of the gaming mechanics and overall interface on the psp many players utilized what became known as the claw grip in order to properly navigate the game as one might imagine this led to many instances of muscle fatigue soreness and the like in said hand 76 destruction wyvern rathalos in monster hunter explore the destruction wyvern rathalos was a special species that was part of a collaboration with the fairy tale series with its design reportedly based off of acnologia again going back to the portal who's to say that instances of this wivert are not the actual product of acnologia crossing into the monster hunter world and if so does this mean that we kill and carve him 77. master julius master julius is a guild knight and the leader of the ace hunters in the netflix movie monster hunter legends of the guild it shows julius and ace aiden meeting thus bringing him into the fold to become the ace we later know him as and well before the joining of the fifth fleet in monster hunter world 78 elder dragon intelligence some speculate that elder dragons are highly intelligent sentient beings as we've seen through various interactions thus hunters actively killing such creatures just demonstrates how humanity as a whole would deem such being threats and exterminate them in lieu of properly understanding them or incorporating them into society in some way others still drawing from the ancient civilization believe that in order to better control or create these creatures they were once humans that were experimented on or whose consciousnesses were transported into these creatures at some point in time 79 elder dragon revival the elder dragon revival ability theory states that elder dragons never actually die and that they are capable of regenerating or to some degree changing form or being reborn for example there was supposedly one xenojiva as some argue there was just one cocoon i.e there is really only one despite quests and the like as a result how do we get safi jiva the confirmed matured version of xenogeva if it did not revive itself only certain parts are carried from their hides and so far we seem to leave elder dragon bodies behind before returning to base the powerful black dragon dire morales has a carnival item literally called immortal heart which even with this removed could this mean that it could still be immortal and revive after resting additionally what if these creatures merely played dead or entered some form of protective hibernation slowing down their breathing and bodily functions so much that it appears as if they had died after losing some parts they are able to regenerate and live another day elder dragons such as zora magdaros release untold amounts of bioenergy capable of creating whole ecosystems so why or why don't we see such obvious examples albeit on a smaller scale when other elder dragons like kieran or teostra are killed simply put because they have not died perhaps the only way to truly kill an elder dragon is to destroy the body or eat them as nergigante does 80. admiral is a shapeshifter he stands a full head taller than anyone else he is incredibly buff and physically strong despite his age among many other things the huntsman even describes him as a beast of a man with golden hair growing so thick on his body you'd mistake him for a raging according to the second fleet master the admiral doesn't use a slinger because he thinks it's cumbersome and that he would just throw the item in question again showing a proclivity to use his raw strength in lieu of a weapon he was also strong enough to block a rajag beam by lifting a boulder due to comments and notes such as these many believe him to be a shapeshifter specifically a golden rajing thanks to his hair whose tail has been removed 81. more xeno-jiva eggs while many have speculated that the elder crossing is a result of a new xenojiva egg being laid and born meaning that safijeeva perhaps migrate there to lay an egg among the seemingly lines to collect the bio energy as a result of this this has accelerated the elder crossing to where it occurs every 10 years instead of every hundred so does this mean that many more of its kind have been born as of late and there are more sophie diva potentially running around have they been reproducing in greater numbers hence the shorter time span between elder crossings and if so why 82 the torch torches attract bonabras and make certain other carnivores jaggi etc stay away from you you can swing the torch with a and you can actually hit monsters with it hitting small monsters with it will force them out of the area and they won't return also back in monster hunter try some cave areas were actually almost completely pitch black unless you lit a torch there were generally some pedestals around that you could light as well so you didn't have to keep a torch out against a monster also in tri giganox used heat to detect you since it had no eyes so it would sometime attack the braziers in those caves instead of the hunters level 3 under the surface 83. white fatalist true name white fatalis is said to be a separate species from fatalis that has learned how to control and summon lightning bolts it is the supposed ancestor of fatalis and possibly many other elder dragons and it is sometimes known as old fatalis also according to the wiki when hunters wear this monster's armor or of fatalis in general it erases their shadow and makes them glow mysteriously some weapons get rid of darkness and evil while others unlock the darkness inside a person's soul most disturbingly rumor has it that the hunters who wear its equipment for too long are eventually transformed into white fatalists themselves how can armor erase one's shadow its inherent powers seem to either glow and illuminate thus giving the illusion of eradicating darkness the absence of light or something else entirely 84 multiple ancient civilizations particularly with the added lore of monster hunter rise many now theorize that there were multiple ancient civilizations with the dominant one that experimented upon monsters and initiated the great dragon war being the preeminent or most powerful one as seen in the flooded forest the ruins the destroyed ships the buried city and everything in between and rise each of the records seem to denote separate civilizations and as their seeming technology an occasional reference to monsters suggests they had a wholly different culture when interacting with them thus are today's humans descended from these alternate ancient civilizations while the main one was wiped from the map in existence thus allowing the race to live on and preventing surviving humans from demonstrating or directly passing on the forbidden knowledge of these people simply because they were not a part of it additionally others believed that these additional groups were once part of the main civilization but for one reason or another decided to leave and start out on their own 85. quests are only done once one fairly common theory that outside of the metasense is that quests are only completed once in other words every time a player redoes a quest for more rewards the quest had already been completed and is not canon others have looked at this as going back in time to re-hunt specific creatures and carve additional parts especially when aiding other players on main storyline missions in the case of colby terroth for example each stage features the same setup and dialogue simulating a form of time loop others still merely see them all as one particular hunt with a player carving as many resources as they need 86. don't trust the wiki a fun theory states to not trust the wiki because it like the common wikipedia can be edited by anyone of course this opens it up for non-canon interpretations of lore intentional misdirections or simply falling victim to not being official in their information sources to a degree 87. kezu is cute given by the client known as fussy girlfriend the summary for this quest states that she and her boyfriend disagree over which monster is cuter somnikanth or kazu her winner being the latter because the obvious many find it both amusing and disturbing given some interpretations of its appearance 88. monsters are bred for the arena one common question is where monsters found in the arena come from one theory states that they are all captured monsters by hunters as after the scientists have finished studying them it may be a waste of time to just release them back into the wild and some official notes however when a monster is captured it is typically killed in its sleep by the institution that requested it generally so that its organs and other body parts can be observed allowing them to improve their understanding of a particular species a grim fate to be slaughtered while infused with sleeping bombs perhaps dying by the blade would have been preferable another theory suggests that they are actually bred in captivity besides living out their lives in caged pens only to be released for a training based blood sport as their bodies are carved is another truly sad existence 89 quest canonicity there are various events or quests that some fans consider as being outside of canon such as the crossovers with the witcher franchise being a meta collaboration to benefit both franchises financially this and the other quests that grant the aforementioned joke weapons are routinely seen as thus however we do still end up with the equipment not just the memories in the game 90. jeff following the trend of ceregios being steve sometimes fans create their own name for monsters such as jeff which is another name given to the powerful safi jiva upon its reveal and while waiting for its cannon name akin to otigoron being known as clifford 91 seasons only found in monster hunter 2 a seasoned system was added in addition to the day and night cycle which affected monster spawns and quests that can be taken why haven't seasons appeared in other games perhaps such locations like the new world are some of the ancient islands outside the flow of time thus halting the seasons perhaps some undiscovered monsters influence the weather like valkana creating icy sheets that envelop its chosen lands or perhaps the seasonal cycle is far longer than on our own planet earth and may take many decades in certain regions which we would not see in some of these lands 92 3rd gen monsters are replacements third generation monsters were meant to be replacements or as some have speculated a form of soft reboot to the franchise to freshen it up similar to the unique generation 5 pokedex the third generation introduced 56 monsters including three monster types leviathan brute wyvern and fanged wyvern notably most monsters featured in first and second generation games did not return in monster hunter 3 and only a select few were slowly reintroduced later over the course of the generation and beyond 93. sky boxes in monster hunter world a few players reported that after killing a large monster the skybox will occasionally have company logos in it although some say that when we're starting the game this somehow fixes this occurrence still others experience very glitches of light and dark color differentiated circle patches additional logos certainly a very abrupt fourth wall break indeed 94. hunting hound palamute palomutes are intelligent companions similar to palakkos that received special training in kimura village in order to fight alongside their hunter so far they seem to be unique to the inhabitants and culture of monster hunter rise and monster hunter stories too and unlike real world wolves and dogs are capable of supporting hunters and carrying them over great distances despite appearing to be canine based mammals they like other monsters are hatched from eggs perhaps like real world wolves they came from more fearsome canine-esque monsters but were bred down over generations into the companions we see today 95. frostfang barrioth is from stories due to its physical abilities and differences from a normal barrioth many classify it as a deviant in monster hunter stories 2 we meet aveena and herberioff named frostfang as a result many believe that it is the first or will become one of the first frostfang barrioths thus giving the deviants their names 69 ian goruga was elder dragon level in freedom or more precisely its power levels or threat levels seemed to vary wildly across the games in freedom it was truly end game elder dragon level powerful and frontier it was still quite strong and was routinely compared to vajang in generation 4 it was apex level now once again in iceborn it appears to have reclaimed its elder dragon level capabilities at least as a tempered level 2. 97 the black blight and the frenzy virus are connected a theory connecting the two illnesses was created by emotional support dragon tanza and it reads as thus the frenzy virus is a disease introduced in monster hunter 4 ultimate it's first scene being used by gore magala who uses it to defend itself and to feel its surroundings this virus is capable of infecting hunters and monsters in similar ways when a hunter is infected the disease rapidly progresses if the hunter attacks a monster enough they overcome the frenzy and gain a temporary affinity boost if they fail to overcome the frenzy they will be unable to heal naturally until the effect wears off when a large monster is infected they are driven into a violent rage with sped up attacks and animations and they inflict the frenzy through contact if the monster is strong enough they can overcome the frenzy and become an apex monster if they fail to overcome the frenzy they slowly and painfully die over the following week or so still in a violent frenzy they eventually die from either a compromised immune system or bleeding out because of their inability to heal the frenzy virus strictly infects animals but elder dragons are completely immune to the virus now something that raises a lot of confusion is chaotic gourmagala there are two things that can cause a gourmagala to become a chaotic gourmagala and both cause the gore magala to improperly shed and both involve surprisingly infection from the frenzy virus gore magala is not immune to the frenzy virus in fact its body is in a near constant battle with its own frenzy gore magala only has antibodies against its own frenzy but it is as vulnerable as many other monsters to the frenzy of another magala as each megala has a unique strain of the frenzy virus the first cause of a chaotic gourmet gala is its shedding being interrupted this is because as a gourmet gala grows the frenzy gets more abundant in its body infecting it the same way it infects any other monster but at a drastically slower speed agora magala sheds to overcome its own frenzy when this shedding is interrupted typically by a large monster the frenzy fully infects them they exhibit the same symptoms as any other monster the inability to heal means that they're stuck between shedding because the new scales are unable to form beneath the old ones the second reason is infection by the frenzy of another magala usually a shigaru the main reason shigaru magala makes such a large cloud of frenzy is to ensure that no other megalast can successfully shed in the general area from here the infection progresses the same way as it does in other monsters creating a chaotic gouramigala due to the chaotic gore magala's infected nature it is slowly dying from the frenzy virus and it is in constant pain now the black blight is a mysterious illness first seen in monster hunter stories the blight can infect practically anything manifesting in different ways depending on what it's infecting monsters infected with the black blight are more aggressive than normal and can spread the disease through physical contact their skin turns darker with a slight purple tint and they become surrounded by a dark cloud of purple blight blighted monsters usually target rider villages due to the great amounts of kinship and kinship stones in them many riders and villages have fallen to blighted monsters the blight can actually infect the land itself manifesting as a slowly creeping gray purple area plants in these areas wither and their roots speed up the progression of the blight monsters in these areas can usually become infected from either eating the flora or prolonged contact with the infected land the blight also infects kinship ores which is how a breakout in an area usually occurs after the ore is infected it begins infecting the ground around it and has a miasma of blight around it blighted monsters are stronger the closer they are to a blighted ore capable of siphoning its power to heal strengthen its attacks move faster or become harder to injure the known ways that the black blight is created are through forced creation of kinship bonds or abuse of kinship ore the only known thing to be able to get rid of the blight is a kinship stone or a powerful kinship abuse of a kinship ore typically involves either tampering with it or using fragments to control a monster like dr manilger's ex monsters this will eventually cause the ore to become infected with the blight the forced creation of kinship bonds is much more dangerous than the abuse of a kinship ore and is the topic of the next section the black dread is the title given to makili pietro a powerful elder dragon capable of using the black blight to an apocalyptic extent mckilley does this by infecting a specific kinship ore the one at the peak of mount cilion and makes it grow and extend into the air where the miasma of blight rapidly spreads through the sky mckilley is only created when versa pietro another powerful elder dragon and a fluffy one too becomes infected with a black blight however versa is unable to contract the blight from conventional means only able to contract it by being forced to form a kinship bond soon after the dragon hatches it goes through a blight-fuelled metamorphosis into makili pietro so far the only known way to force it to bond is through the use of a modified kinship stone to hatchet mckillie creates clouds of blight to fill the sky and cover the land resulting in what i call a blight winter this would essentially be like a volcanic winter but caused by the black light meaning that the airborne blight infects essentially everything resulting in a global apocalypse the only way to stop a blight winter is by slaying machi pietro which is incredibly difficult when it's gorging on energy from the blight the frenzy virus and the black blight are two completely separate ailments with no genetic connection whatsoever the blight is less like a disease and more a force of nature while the frenzy virus is just a virus the frenzy virus was not created when the ancestor of gore magalik contracted the black blight the frenzy virus is neither the predecessor nor the descendant of the black blight in fact due to the black blight's nature the frenzy virus is probably capable of being blighted the blight and the frenzy have some noticeable differences as well the blight can infect anything while the frenzy is limited to animals the frenzy inhibits tissue repair while the blight actually speeds it up the frenzy slowly kills its host but the blight keeps its host alive the frenzy can be overcome by the immune system but the blight can't the only two similarities that these two diseases have is that they turn monsters purple and violent and that they can spread through animals but let's think that they can be connected others believe that the black blight is an evolution of the frenzy virus mutating to now infect all things a variant in its own right as a virus is constantly evolving to survive using epidemic style games the best chance of survival for many things is to easily transmit from one creature or living thing to another so branching off to being able to infect plant life and fauna is the next logical evolution additionally keeping the host alive for as long as possible could be another adaptation caused by this 98 shara ishvalda and safi jiva are part of the five drawing from the tales of the five one theory postulates that shara ishvalda and safi jiva are actually two of the five great dragons that created the world their size immense powers seeming abilities to draw in all bioenergy especially safijivas infant form being able to even call and bring in other elder dragons points to them being in an entirely different league above them additionally ultura seems to follow some of these conventions with its immense power threatening the entire world causing a mass migration of rathalos and whose effects changed the monsters and world about it if so could these monsters be the beginning of the end of the monster hunter world once more to start anew humans and why varians seem to steady kill and use monster parts for their armor and benefits perhaps while not as great of a threat as the advanced ancient civilization the five are being called to re-materialize to write this balance every time the creatures are slain it simply pushes back the inevitable 99 roars of the hor frost and ancient forest heard in iceborn as well as in the main ancient forest a particularly sinister roar can be heard generally when encountering a lagiana or a rothian but where is this coming from according to the patch notes this unsettling call and musical swell and the arguable distance from these monsters such as being in a camp to re-equip further distorts the sound in some way and is actually from a legiata or a shrieking legiana responding to a call for help or in the case of the ancient forest a similar call for help between arathian and a rathalos could this be a matter of sounding a certain way like a normal call when in closer proximity to it but the farther one gets it changes dramatically the call designed to hit certain pitches or cadences to reach its intended target over great distances 100 fatalis update wasn't planned many fans speculate that fatalis was not planned from the beginning as an update to world however the developers decided to add it as a final update when they noticed the sheer hype that the 15th anniversary poster garnered thus deciding to reintroduce the iconic monster especially after either one or both monsters takes significant damage and drops an item in the elder's recess elder dragons often engage in these turf wars normally ending in a tie where both parties take damage but occasionally one eeks out a victory these battles most often take place in the elder's recess where many are drawn all of these interactions demonstrate the territorial nature of such elder dragons and their need for supremacy in their own territory as more are called to the area more battles and destruction wrought by the two factions which washing hunters should be careful to avoid are inevitable 152 we never actually fought fatalis before in the current official canon the only fatalist that was canonically fought in the games was an iceborn thus all previous interactions where hunters fought fatalis never happened and crimson and white vitalis haven't been canonically fought at all they explicitly state we've never fought fatalis rather than we fought it but lost the records like with elatrion they also still note that it destroyed schrade it's not forbidden knowledge because there is no knowledge no record of its battle though it is careful to note that besides these fights all other games activities are still canon as a result many have taken to believing that these past encounters were the result of a nightmare induced by the horrific histories of the great beast and the knowledge of what it had done as with any hunter your simply wished to fight it to end it for all the hurt it had done and the closest they ever came to achieve it in the past games was in the safety of their own dreams 153 frontier is the ancient civilization due to the often unique monsters fought in this spin-off game there are those that believe monster hunter frontier is the ancient civilization from equally unique weapons such as the tonfa many believe that this was either the civilization pre-dragon war and before technology really took off developing them into the ancient civilization we normally envisioned the laws of certain technologies that don't reappear in the main games along with unique monsters that have most likely since been hunted to extinction have added to this online theory level seven under the iceberg 154 pale tree forest the pale tree forest is an old unused concept regarding early felines and where they were meant to live some have even commented that they resemble dead kezu from how pale they are and how they are structured perhaps the games were originally meant to be far more dark but following this notion were they really trees perhaps hollowed out or otherwise imbued by some disease that resulted in their coloration were they actually killed and hollowed out kezu their bodies being preserved with spices and extracts 155 perea puria preys on rajang in frontier many odd items can be found in this monster's vomit depending on the hunter's rank wrathion plates or lost umbrellas are found as well as gold rajan pelts they do not seem to be skinned by a hunter and are most likely left over from a feeding given that these pelts are also golden referencing its heightened powers when in this form was this creature truly able to best a monster able to take on elder dragons 156 this theory goes back to the fact that fatalis created life from the sacrificed humans could these new beings not be the wyvarians they have long pointed ears four digits on their hands and feet and have extremely long life spans for example the wyvarian treshy is said to be 350 years old and still kicking all of this stems from the fact that they are evolved from wyverns despite their rather human-ish appearance some of them are depicted as still having scales on their hands and feet and as having sharp black claw-like nails although most have light skin why variants with darker skin do exist the wyvern machine soldier maintain the likeness of the dragons that were slain to create it so too may the reverse be true for rivarians as they retain such human features beings known as the first wyvarians appear in the new world they're notes indicating that they are mysterious members of the wyverian race they appear as they please on the hunter's path to help them holders of great knowledge often lost to humans they may still hide some secrets awaiting to be discovered could they truly as their long-lived modern counterparts have such an extensive lifespan they watch the human hunters and their own descendants that live amongst them seemingly judging their intents and deeds who's to say that these wiverians with purer blood perhaps were alive during the time of the great dragon war 157 witcher crossover one of many crossovers with a franchise is that with witcher 3. the lesson and ancient lesson are introduced to the monster hunter world and are classified as relict monsters of which they are the only two known monsters while in monster hunter lore relic may indicate that these are relics of the past or a much earlier timeline in their world's history others note that the term relic itself seems to be a direct adaptation of a monster classification from the witcher series the classification itself encompasses a large number of seemingly unrelated monsters including some that are sentient and capable of human speech like the godlings that all share a vulnerability to a substance called relict oil all that being said it is noted as being the first non-canonical monster classification in the series 158 final fantasy crossover the behemoth is a creature that seemingly comes from the the monsters to protect it perhaps this ancient civilization truly did retreat to another world or plane of existence thus they were not wholly wiped out as many believe 159 iceborn is about colonialism as noted in iceborn is monster hunter at its peak colonialist fantasy included by ricardo contreras the handler the consistent voice in your ear throughout monster hunter world begins making plans for a new forward operating base she convinces the rest of the commission without much trouble and you're tasked with making the chosen area safe by hunting a monster that's roaming too close as you finish this quest the field team leader remarks this freezing cold place was out here waiting for us the whole time this land wild and untamed was waiting precluding any sort of natural state without humans it is here for our use the colonial fantasy and monster hunter world was often couched with a weak framing as ecological study we must learn more about the ecology so that we may be its shepherds the elder dragons need to be driven out or they could cause catastrophes that would change the natural ecosystem ignoring that much like forces of nature in our world they are part of that ecosystem that hedging is gone after the early moments of iceborn you're sent to hunt monsters in order to get clear access to natural resources or to make sure a trade route to the new world is established enough to send over fortifications the new base celiana is built in a matter of in-game moments and immediately the new continent is named the frost reach you're the vanguard in establishing celiana and after a certain point every quest is directly related to the protection of this new settlement there comes a moment somewhere around the 10 hour mark when celiana is under threat of being wiped out by the titular iceborn wyvern velkana the field team leader gives an impassioned speech as to why the commission should stay in the horfrost reach instead of retreating back to their original base in astera aren't we part of the ecosystem too then let's fight as part of this ecosystem gone are the half-hearted attempts to research the ecosystem and be in balance with it as the commander said just moments before a statement not without its own colonial baggage now these ecological concepts are rendered synonymous with the self-interest of the invading settlers this notion drives the central themes of iceborn no longer is the game couching your actions as investigating new monsters this is now a fight for land you've staked a claim in a new environment and by god as a monster hunter you will defend that claim 160 the new world itself is a monster as evidenced by the land comprised of the dead zoro magdaros in the theory that the new world was the dead first dragon gods others still believe that the entire new world is a form of monster the ever stream is its life force other theories claim the ancient forest is a brain diagram with a roots burrowed deep into the earth being part of an interlinking nervous system and the great tree although hollow at points is still thriving as the epicenter the spongy coral highlands or the lungs and the rotten veil particularly its corrosive and acidic depths make up the stomach where the dead and decaying fall to be consumed is the new world actually one of the old gods a dragon or something if one can comprehend it much worse 161 gore magala is a bioweapon one theory states that gore magala and its frenzy virus were intentionally created for the express purpose of killing other monsters during the great dragon war how perfect are the effects of the frenzy that they almost always result in the death of infected monsters but humans can recover relatively quickly only a rare few monsters ever survive it in comparison to those that are lost it is highly infectious almost acting as a form of rabies for monsters spreading it amongst their ranks it is noted that each gore magala carries a unique strain of the virus meaning there were multiple monstrosities that were created but it only has antibodies against its own frenzy thus contact with others of its kind or creature it has infected that the virus has already mutated within will cause it to begin dying as well after all after wiping out as many of the monsters as the ancient civilization wished why would they still have a use for it and so it was created with a kill switch so to speak 162 nakarkos is an alien somewhat akin to xenogeva one theory states that nacarcos is an alien the weapons and armor that are forged from it are from the astral line all these texts reference either the cosmos or some way of overcoming hardship or chaos and becoming some sort of higher being so perhaps nakarkos is from space itself and that's why there are all the astral references in its equipment it uses bones to create two dragon neck and head appendages seeking to adapt and blend in with the local life of course because it does not belong another aspect to this is that they could merely reference how it sometimes lives or may be found leagues under the sea and a world whose creatures are often foreign or alien to us 163 black dragons red dragons and white dragons drawing from best buds 4444 on reddit on red and black dragons black dragons are basically the embodiment of destruction while it seems red dragons are the embodiment of creation as safi jiva transforms the area to suit his needs this is counted as creating new land rather than destroying it he was also created from the life force of a bunch of elder dragons backing up this point so it is red dragons vs black dragons creation vs destruction making them natural enemies add to this that the jivas attract monsters while fatalis makes everything run away from it we see more of this dichotomy but where does that leave white dragons like the color it is an absence of everything a true neutral its aggression is an attempt at continuing its neutral space which the hunter may disturb by its very intrusion with all themes in the monster hunter world the idea of balance of harmony and nature is the basis of everything 164 rapid evolution as evidenced by variants deviants monsters that have survived the frenzy and so on monsters seem to constantly evolve at a rapid pace branching off and evolving seemingly over single generations as for large hexapod dragons like xenogeva whose maturation processes almost as dramatic as a butterflies the rapidness of evolution in giant apex predators is astonishing especially given that they seem to live far longer than a simple butterfly what has caused such genetically unstable creatures so that they can evolve and adapt so quickly again returning to an earlier theory some postulate that they are the result of some form of radiation chemical experimentation or the like could be to blame rapidly mutating from one generation to the next wherein creatures that are capable of the quickest evolutions are able to survive 165 bioenergy was here ever since monster hunter won as suggested by snatcher on tumblr bioenergy perhaps may have more links to the ancient civilization it is the monster hunter world's equivalent of mana a term often used as a name for a magic source and other games the traditional definition for mana can be overly simplified as life force which bioenergy basically is but in video games it is basically magic in a raw state which can be transformed into different spells in the monster hunter setting bioenergy serves as a source of an elder dragon's unusual powers as in its raw state it's not terribly useful but when harnessed through a dragon's biological adaptations it can be turned into elements like an elatreon funneling it through its horns to act as a natural taser and a devil joe though it's a brute wyvern condensing it into dragon element to breathe out and why is it not just called mana or magic the monster hunter games run off of a reverse of clark's third law which states that any sufficiently advanced technology can look a lot like magic reversed it means that magic when understood well enough becomes science because magic is mysterious and vague and how it works but science has been tested poked and prodded until scientists at least have a good understanding of what is going on and in the monster hunter setting magic is just another field of biology thus this is how the ancient civilization and even the blacksmiths of today are able to navigate and harness some of the properties of this bio energy and how weapons can retain their elements from the slang creatures imbued with it the advanced civilization conducted tests and experiments creating life through the transference of this energy to mold it to their whims 166 scarlet mystery man is an unknown black dragon an additional theory about the scarlet mystery man is that he is an unknown black dragon if black dragons are the old gods and truly do have such unrelenting power perhaps he seeks to rid the world of his rivals allowing himself to lead but why is he referred to as the scarlet mystery man does he wear a scarlet robe as many envision or is it a reference to scarlet scales like safijiva as others have imagined regardless assuming he is powerful enough to create a human projection or otherwise transform into a human form in order to post multiple quests for the hunter demonstrating a knowledge of human culture and language he may be far more grave a threat than one could imagine or as the prior battles with fatalis have been retconned what if he pushed such thoughts through telepathy into the hunter's mind making them believe they saw and accepted these contracts 167 scarlet mystery man is a possessed hunter as demonstrated in monster hunter rise hinoa and minoto were temporarily possessed by ibushi and narwa powerful elder dragons and were able to communicate with one another in the tongues of man in this state this has led to some theorizing that the scarlet man is a hunter or wiverian as hinoa and minoto may be more acutely affected as wyvarians and is similarly possessing a hunter for the purposes of spying on the human world and creating and posting these dangerous contracts it definitely would make it harder to trace back to if it was merely using some proxy the age-old assumption that the scarlet mystery man also wore a cloak and hood also adds to this as hinoa and mikoto's eyes glowed with the respective colors of ibushi and narwha so this may help hide the possessed man's eyes 168 nobody cares if stories is canon a more lighthearted theory no one cares if stories is canon while some believe it to be a spin-off universe set in an alternate timeline of the world such as altura being that world xenojiva it remains a moot point for many 168 monsters attack because of the war the reason that many monsters are so aggressive towards humans wiverians other humanoids and creatures associated with them such as felines dates back to the great dragon war while they're passed down or seared into their very beings as innate responses most monsters will actively go out of their way to attack and chase down humans another option is that fatalis or some other exceptionally powerful creature is able to link with them carrying this hatred and spreading it to as many wild monsters as it came across seeing humans as an enemy was vital to survival as being caught generally meant death or experimentation worse than death as for the more docile monsters they may best be descended or evolved from the monsters that guarded the ancient civilization's palaces being offered some leniency or even protection by them thus they are neutral until threatened 170 frozen seaway is melting the frozen seaway was introduced in monster hunter 4. although the majority of the environment is completely icy various ice floes have broken up to reveal the frigid waters below appearing in many places this has led to speculation that it is melting when looking at the map it seems to be a series of glaciers with a main mountainous glacial island that is quite close to the tundra perhaps from this one might glean that the two areas were once connected with the area slowly melting away oddly enough when looking about the map icy regions do appear relatively interspersed with both hot and temperate regions perhaps suggesting that the land's climates are dictated by the powerful monsters that live there such as velkana in some regions could this indicate that either the ice elemental monsters have died or fled the frozen seaway or that other powerful more fire elemental monsters are somehow contributing to rising heat and their demise 171 the guild is authoritarian the hunter's guild is the central governing association in the monster hunter world the headquarters of the hunter's guild is located in the city of dundorma and all major announcements and actions are made from this location the guild commands a sprawling territory comprised of numerous districts each of which is managed by a guild master located in multiple regions fleets are led by commanders and many serve this seemingly all-consuming governing body with those that take on quests being required to register and answer to the guild as monster hunters additionally the hunter's guild is responsible for determining areas that can be embarked upon when hunting thus allowing or restricting access for all all answer to this hunter's guild and they even used their military might to impose their ideas and methods for success on indigenous tribes such as the monster riders from monster hunter stories 2 capturing ratha and attempting to kill the sacred rathalos of the tribe level 8 the abyss 172 arctic ridge ufo various notes and claims of witnessing red orbs or lights in the sky above arctic ridge as well as other areas across all the games have all led many to speculate that they are ufos or unidentified flying objects however in some cases some were actually identified such as after one similar event the player found a silver and red scale chunk as if it had fallen to the ground after this event leading many to believe it was merely a valstrax citing as the red comet and thanks to its jet-like propulsion abilities some do believe it can transcend the ozone layer and may have come to the world of monster hunter from beyond the stars add to this the paliko ufo gear which seems to simulate monsters being scooped up in some form of tractor beam ufo sightings seem to have been peppered throughout the games some fans believe this more recent event from the paleco gear to the clothes and armor for the hunters is of reference to both the monsters or aliens beyond the stars as well as potentially the ancient civilization who utilized advanced technologies some now theorize that this was never meant to be earth but another planet that humans somehow found attempting to colonize and make it their own leading to their downfall and the events of today 173 shaw and dire creation and destruction according to this theory shah dala matar is the being of creation and daya morales is the being of destruction let's begin with shah de la mater specifically from the weapon descriptions taken from keronico with the first daybreak shah dela mater defined the earth by drawing the horizon as sunshine came a second time shaw de la mater created the fields with its feathery rays third came twilight and shaw delamata parted the golden waves and created land with the fourth celestial glow shaw de la mater bared his fangs and called it the wind at the fifth evening glow shaw de la mater created time in its coils of memory with the sixth fall of darkness shah delamata wrote joyous songs to heal our hearts with the seventh deep night shah delamata hewed mountains out of the darkness with the eighth full moon shah de la mater created pillars upon which the earth would shake ninth came sunset and shaw de la mater created heaven to catch the earth below with the tenth heat haze shaw de la mater invented fantasy to help us find reason with the eleventh night thus inviting death into the world additionally its description reads though they were once thought to exist only in legend multiple sightings in the past few years have led many to fear sha de la mater as an omen of grave things to come could this suggest that perhaps as god has returned it will become some second coming or rapture wiping the slate clean let's turn to dire morales by comparison some theorize that dire morales is the being of destruction the fallen one as all things must have an opposite in order to control its massive heat that radiates off its body it stays in the shallow sea waters of the tainted sea the fiery pillars and what seem to be volcanic events and new forming volcanoes are caused by its powers could the sheer heat and volcanic structures of itself and the surrounding area be a nod to what is known as the ring of fire in our world characterized by active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes and where the majority of earth's volcanoes and earthquakes are found being home to over 75 percent of the world's volcanoes and over 90 percent of the world's earthquakes many fear that these events may trigger a particularly deadly or cataclysmic event causing destruction to the surrounding areas or covering entire continents and ash could this not be a similar fear of dire morales the entire sea is tainted by it and it is this giant natural body of water that seems to merely contain it to some degree perhaps this world will truly end in fire 174 fatalis is extra dimensional this theory that fatalis is extra dimensional owes to its encounter and world wherein it was confirmed to have never been hunted or killed in that timeline the term extra-dimensional means originating outside the known physical reality of the universe assuming fatalis was extra dimensional could this indicate that by universe it means that it did not come from the monster hunter world but an alternate dimension which is why other dragons flee before it it is not of their world's creation and they can sense this or could the other fights with fatalis actually be canon save for fatalis retreating or the hunter that hunted him entering into a separate pocket dimension in some form thus never returning to the real world to deliver the news of its death while the world the hunter came back to seems the same perhaps there are little tells or differences that set it apart from the world they came from could some form of field which other monsters sense and causes them to run be unfelt by humans thus the stories of no hunter living to tell the tale could be true as the ones that set off to hunt it never actually returned to their original dimension but a parallel one and how did fatalis come to be during the great dragon war was it some form of manifestation of the slain dragons and monsters that had somehow passed on to a new plane of existence or like xeno jiva it crashed absorbing the massive amounts of bioenergy from the slain creatures of the ancient civilization 175 oroshi kieran scrapped due to spatiotemporal absorption first let's break down what it may mean by spatiotemporal absorption or at least from the theories based around this claim if something is spatio-temporal it belongs to both time and space and or is a part of what is known as space-time and absorption is that of the process or actions by which one thing absorbs or is absorbed by another when looking at the theories of this oroshi kirin did not appear in the latest game not from the meta sense that it was replaced or removed from the leaked list but because something absorbed its place its location in space-time going back to fatalis which was the final monster added in world it as a potentially extra dimensional being swapped places with oroshi kieran and space-time perhaps to ensure some form of balance along these lines perhaps other monsters also do not appear in world and their absence is a result of bioenergy or some other form that must be swapped or absorbed in order to allow for fatalis to enter into this plane of existence 176 younger driest valstrax event in real life the younger dryas was a cool period between roughly 12 900 and 11 600 years ago that disrupted the prevailing warming trend occurring in the northern hemisphere at the end of the pleistocene epoch which lasted from 2.6 million to 11 700 years ago and the period persisted for roughly 1 300 years after the period ended an interval of rapid warming followed and average temperatures increased to near present day levels and the believed cause which did not follow natural cycles was speculated to be the result of quote large amounts of fresh water being discharged into the north atlantic about 12 800 years ago more specifically the retreat of the laurentide ice sheet allowed lake agazes a glacial meltwater lake that covered a large part of north central north america to drain eastward into the atlantic ocean rather than southward into the mississippi river broker and american geologist george denton proposed that this large influx of fresh water may have stopped higher density seawater in the north atlantic from descending to lower essentially turn itself into a comet it may follow the impact theory that states one or more large low density extraterrestrial objects exploded over northern north america partially destabilizing the laurentide ice sheet and triggering younger dry ass cooling the shock wave thermal pulse and event-related environmental effects eg extensive biomass burning and food limitations contributed to end pleistocene megafauna extinctions and adaptive shifts among paleoamericans in north america specifically it landed about the frozen seaway or frost lakes the heat and force beginning to break them up and melt them accelerating the release of this fresh icy water and speeding up the process and preventing the higher density seawater from sinking and allowing for more regulated thermal conditions 117 fatalis is real due to its perceived abilities some believe fatalis to be real and perhaps a result of human experimentation in some hidden alcoves of the world they created the ultimate weapon which they could not control 178 u.s government requested underwater gameplay removal in the past game director fujioka had said that we wanted to challenge ourselves to make underwater action and try because we had never been satisfied with how underwater sections worked in other games and some fans have theorized that they wanted to include them in world by this statement however beyond any technical limitations or time constraints the impetus to do so was taken from them supposedly by the us government why would the u.s government care about an underwater level in a video game about fictional monsters were some of the creatures many inspired by myths and lore from our world a little too close to the reality of the unexplored depths of the seas potentially revealing something that
