welcome to the heavy spoilers show I'm your host Paul in this video we're breaking down the Mist this is the film I remember vividly watching all the way back in 2007 walking in it it felt like we were attending a Big B movie with all the trimmings of a 1950s classic however upon leaving I'm sure like many of you I remember being shook by its Unforgettable ending all these years later something it's stuck with me and I think everyone who's seen it shares the same feeling though this was the Mist he certainly never missed and that's that's the one bad joke of the video I Pro I promise but but the movie has something that will stick with you forever and throughout this video we're going to break it all down it's a film that has a lot going on beneath the surface and lots of deep layers that we need to unpack I also want to talk about those love craf and creatures and hopefully bring you one of the most in-depth videos that we've ever made on anything the synopsis of the movie sums up some of its themes but even then I think it hides things from us it says allthough a monster movie the central theme explores what Ordinary People are driven to under extraordinary circumstances sure I can see how you would come to that but ultimately I think the film's about fear this to me is about the fear of the unknown and how can drive one to do Insane things this is why the supermarket descends into chaos and ultimately why David kills everyone at the end he's scared of what's out there because he just doesn't know and ultimately it's revealed to be something that would have saved him I think the film becomes more relevant than yat and you can easily apply to a number of different things for example we've just cover the abyss and that too shared some similar motifs the phrase is when you stare into the abyss the abyss stares into you what it means is that your mind fills the darkness and it's you who decides what what's in the abyss well we all see what we want to see coffee looks and he sees Russians he sees hate and fear you have to look with better eyes than that if you're fearful and afraid it's going to fill it with enemies and if you're hopeful and optimistic then it's going to do the opposite all of the characters here are just reflections of their own beliefs and ultimately it's them that drives it in the abys there was this cold war paranoia with a character suspecting it was Russian submarines in the mid though we get hints towards the creatures there there really could be anything operating out there that's why I think the film stayed relevant because the metaphors can be switched for for current day problems ultimately fear and paranoia can be undoing and it's the people in the film that are the greatest threats as a species we're fundamentally insane but more than two of us in a room we pick sides and start dreaming up reasons to kill one another sa like are we the baddies beyond the creatures most of the fears are man made with it being one's imagination that causes some really terrible acts Mrs Kodi imagines it's the wrath of God and King's criticism of religion is present throughout the peace he denoted that people's fanatical beliefs can also cause our imagination to allow them to commit horrendous things however goes much further beyond that and rather than the other humans being the monsters it maybe a such one too that's what David's supposed to represent and he could be seen as a monster for his final Act our imagination and fear can cause us to jump to conclusions and act in irrational ways in which we turn on each other it shows bad things happen when we lose all hope even though we should still keep it alive Frank darabond said this was a direct response to sha Shang where Hope was a major thing lce throughout the movie let me tell you something my friend hope hope is a dangerous thing hope can drive a man insane initially red starts believing that Hope's a bad thing but in the end he sees that it's good I hope I can make it across the border I hope to see my friend and shake his hand I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams I hope looking at the book If you also look at the final word in it you will see that yep you guessed it it's hope that's sort of how I take the two things being linked and throughout the film we see how people's negative assumptions lead to their downfall some people assume that it's a religious act and they refuse to consider any of the possibilities Mrs Kodi doesn't get stung and because of this people think that she's the chosen one however in real life we know that wasps don't tend to sting someone if they're totally still and it's slightly the same thing that also happened with her here though they don't even consider that as they've already clearly made their minds up one thing you'll notice on social media a lot is people arguing a point and then getting shown of evidence in the face of this most most of them refuse to change their minds and it often ends up with them looking stupid assuming the monsters are outside is what caused the group at the end to do what they did but they could have easily have just waited the whole thing out seeing if they were attacked first before pulling the trigger that would have made it so they weren't doomed to die there was no reason to do what they did at that exact moment but if you assume it makes an ass out of you and me and I thought my jokes were bad throughout the film we discover what brought the creatures in and learn about the military's secret project Arrowhead this was attempting to open up portals and have mankind going to other dimensions in its nature it's very love crafing as other creatures that we meet throughout the movie originally the film was actually going to open up on this scene and we'd witness his Arrowhead brought in the monsters now when we're at Davids what forces him to go to town is the fact that the storm destroys his home you might think that this is caused by the portal and as far as the Finish cut goes that makes a lot of sense about the first script helped to clear it all up and these two instances weren't really linked what happened is is that arroe head went ahead and then the storm rolled in and destroyed all the equipment we had a signtist saying that they shouldn't run the tests in the storm but the military downplayed it and said go ahead this active guard then meant the portal stayed open and thus the creatures were able to come in the basis for this book also inspired halflife with the dimensional creatures being based off the ones in this it's sort of an unofficial adaptation with them almost calling a quiver bouncing off the back of the name Arrowhead director Frank darabond really wanted to film it but in the end it would just cost too much money you see kids originally this film was with Paramount who'd offer the director $30 million however they'd wanted him to change the movie's ending which is something he'd sat with for over two decades thus he shipped it a dimension which was the hard division of the Weinstein now they allowed him to keep in the ending but it tightened up the purse for the VFX heavy stuff I think the CGI unfortunately hasn't aged well and when a creature's tearing up the sherminator you can kind of see the seams however there is alternate version of the movie which is completely in black and white this is darab Bond's director C and he said it's the best way to watch the movie I agree as well and it gives you that be movie aesthetic while also making it so the CGI looks seamless the black and white really makes it feel like an old Twilight Zone episode and they do some amazing stuff with the color timing and contrast to make certain characters seem more paranoid they've done versions like that for both Logan and Mad Max and I it seems to be the fashion of the time and I'm I'm looking at you Roma still though for this video it's it's easier to do color now like a lot of King Stories We Begin in Maine and start off in David's art room here we can see lots of little Easter eggs with the first post this on the right being a nut to it the one on the far right wearing a yellow rain jacket which is what Georgie wore during the story the next painting a car holds a red balloon which was also something that was Penny wise's calling card just along from it we can catch Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins behind bars with this being from the Sha Shank Redemption that's what really helped catapult darbon and since then both he and King have being closely linked together you see Stephen King has a program called dollar babies where he grants permission to students to adapt his work for a dollar just give me the rights to The Shining I'm make I'm making it [Music] now I'd buy that for a dollar now so how this works is the students can make that movie but they aren't allowed to make money from it and he retains the rights daabon ended up making a short base on the woman in the room which I'm pretty sure is actually up on YouTube anyway this was short listed at the Academy Awards and it's what started off King starting to really want to work with him you see at the time his name was really big but it felt like his film adaptations had been a bit Hit and Miss Gone with the days in which people remembered him for carry and King was kind of going through a slump in the 80s the adaptations had received harsh reviews with even stuff like The Shining getting pooped on at the time sure there was the odd success here and there but it was darabond who really changed things in the '90s he'd given him the Sha Shank Redemption which elevated his name into a Prestige light now I know I'm skipping over some of the highs but you can see why King wanted to work with him and darabond also made The Green Mile however the Mist was actually the first project he wanted to do but in the end he had gone with shank still l king always had that in his mind and he refused to give the rights to anyone but Darabont for over 20 years there were Rumblings of this being made and it was a story King fans were desperate to see you see this came from the book The Dark Forces Anthology which had a wealth of stories waiting to be adapted its Anthology predecessor night shift had just made Fran franchise after franchise with things like children in the corn lawn mow man Maximum Overdrive and sometimes they come back the Mist was a 200 Pages short that felt like it was ripe to be adapted and out of that Anthology it's by far the longest story King said he thought of it when visiting a supermarket and wondering what would happen if big bugs flew through the window he's a genius however you can see why this felt like some untouched work and that's a massive side tangent that takes us to this the next poster we see is the Gunslinger Roland who comes directly from King's Dark Tower series he's based on Clint eastwoods man with no name which we can see clearly in the design now these posters were all created by Drew stuen one of the most famous film poster designers in the entire world he did Star Wars Back to the Future Indiana Jones you're bloody name it he also created the one for pan Labyrinth which we can see just to the left of the thing the thing was of course one of his works as well with that film being about paranoia and fear that was set at an isolated base surrounded by weather conditions that made it impossible for the group there to leave so thematically it shares a lot of similarities and was also directed by John Carpenter both he and King worked on Christine together and when doing my research I found something that was quite interesting why well I'll tell you sh shut up uh and this is because carbiner also directed The Fog which has mysterious things within it this was released during February 1980 with a Miss short story releasing the air after it the nail playing podcast brought up how a Miss gives you visibility for up to a mile so the name the fog would proba fit the story better they went into how though there's the thought that King might have called it that originally but there was also a book released just 5 years before it that was by James Herbert and both these aspects might have made him settle on the Mist as the storm rolls in we then meet David Sun Bill who at one point gets called Big Bill this is an odd to Bild emb's nickname Big Bell who too comes from the story eight wait is that is that Jim Gordon's son from the Nolan movies you little swine anyway alongside them's their wife who whose name I couldn't find and to be fair David doesn't seem that bothered about her either in the book he actually ended up sleeping with a Manda and this was seen as a sin that meant she was put forth for sacrifice this is given lip service in the film when David brings up what col Modi might do we can start worrying about who she's going to sacrifice to make it all better you amand my little boy in the film she's played by Lori Holden with the S of getting a lot of Walking Dead actors there's Dale Carol Juan Gabriel periro was in it and even Sam wh were as well yes he was and he played the tank zombie though the role was uncredited darab Bon even asked Thomas Jane to play Rick but in the end he turned this role down we then get this line a you know what that was your that was your grandfather's tree the one he play in it oh used to play in that tree it's just stuff though which I kind of take as him showing he's not too sentimental when it comes to his family dear me this this shuttle's bloody gone downhill now this window being broken of course seals his wife's fate as it doesn't offer any protection from the Mist that can just roll right into the house raise the glass on the supermarket keeps it from coming in I told her i' fix it you at this point they see the boat house is destroyed and that the Mist is starting to come in the tree that brought it down was owned by his neighbor Brent Burton who he learns being in illegal dispute with him before the book explains that it was a land dispute with not ensuing him for en crouching on his property David won in court though with Norton basically blocking him in real life he only ever goes to the home for summer and it's like what would happen if Ryan AR ever found out I'd been slagging him off in all my videos shut the up Ryan AR we then see that Norton's Car has been destroyed and apparently the creative team run it out a damaged one to do this they were told not to bust it up further though but that little message that wasn't passed along the set dressers smashed it like the like button and added thousands of dollars extra in repair bills producer Denise Huth said it was a big [ __ ] up and it's pretty wild for what's a 2C shot either way David helps them into town which I think shows deep down that he is a nice Sky even though these two had disagreements in the past he's still willing to help Thy Neighbor it could H that he's more Christian than the Christians and showcases his nature and instantly makes us like him heading into town we see the military rolling out and learn that there's conspiracies about what's going on there I'm sure the woman at the uh laundr mat says that uh they have a crash Flying Saucer up there with frozen alien bodies I had Bigfoot's baby Satan's face appears in oil well fire you know real reli St this again highlights that in the face of uncertainty that one will create reasoning so they can help to comprehend it I watched a documentary recently right that talked about the anti-science movement and how so many people have turned back to things like Flat Earth it's thought that we live in such a world of misinformation that people now just gravitate towards the thing that they believe the most I feel that's something that's present in the work as well and even in King's book David refers to some of the characters as flat earthers this is Norton's group who refused to accept that they all monsters even when the evidence is all there to see I think King's beliefs are in a lot of his work and this is often why the military are shown as the bad guys King even protested the Vietnam War which could explain the stance he takes against the military here if you look at his books most of his heroes are authors with the oddest here not being too dissimilar from that that's just how I take it anyway you know it's not my personal beliefs it's it's more my interpretation of what I think King's beliefs are and if you disagree then let me know below now Hing up the food house we then get this line hey mron gu damed up yeah we'll have the staff didn't show plus the power is out with a lack of Staff likely being because those [ __ ] got eaten everyone's also stucking up because of the power car and it reminded me of back in the pandemic when people bought enough toilet paper to destroy the entire Amazon you're not going to [ __ ] yourself to death mate several of the women here also edes babysitters to belly which was done for practical reasons unset kids can of course only work a certain amount of hours and thus it helped to keep his character out the way at this point we then meet OE and Mrs carod the letter of which is King's crazy religious archetype I love how she's married as well but I think that the husband it might be like Agatha in one division she doesn't care too much about her husband never brings him up and the guy the guy's probably better off being stuck at home this archetype someone who shows up in a lot of his stories with the most famous of these of course being car's mother she even does a sort of they're all going to laugh at you which is something that pulls directly from that film now if you like these classic movies like the thing and Carri then definitely check out our partners at Arrow video this selling both films on the collectors so if you want 10% off then just use the code heavy spoilers as a check out and I really appreciate it anyway at this point we also catch sweet old Irene reading from the newspaper this is the Castle Rock times with Castle Rock being a town created for King's books here we also overhear the MP saying look I told you all leaves are cancelled I don't know why I got to go check the pharmacy out later on that's who you see at the pharmacy with eggs from the creatures being laid inside of him I'm sorry I'm sorry it's our fault it's all our fault this of course reveals that they were behind it with them erupting from him similar to how they came from the portal this also has him covered in thick white webs not too dissimilar from the fog of the Mist at this point the sirens go off evoking the fear that one would experience in Wartime vast blankets of Ash and dir cover the landscape and those in the areas would have to Bunk it down for safety which is similar to what happens here it's as this rolls in we hear a man being torn apart and get the harbinger of Doom coming in the form of Dale sorry Jeffrey Deon who also started in the Sha Shang and Green Mile as well for the next part of the video I want to talk about the monsters so we can get an idea of what's going on these creatures are made up of several different kinds with a behemoth being something whose giant legs we see at the end known as The impossibly Tall creature the book describes it as being like a walking cliff thought to be nearly 300 ft tall it's the most lovecrafting creature that we meet in the movie har it seems an interest in the humans and due to its towering size it's more of a gentle giant because of the sheare height and weight though this in itself is dangerous to those below it's possest creatures what cause the earthquake at 14 minutes because its thunderous feet leave holes the size of SUVs coming off the Behemoth we can see large tentacles as well which have made many that these are the tentacles that take the sherminator in the film personally I think you'd hear this creature before you see it so I don't believe that they are one in the same and our film Comics explained did a big video on the creature too and he said he didn't think the tentacles could reach the ground which yeah makes a lot of sense too these tentacles themselves have suction cups which contain teeth and they can consume their prey that are then carried up the tentacle to the hole the tentacles is also decomposed upon being severed and they emit a foul smelling gas that may be poisonous in large quantities I haven't read it yet but according to IMB trivia this also happens to a creature that appears from from a Buick 8 the monster in that was also thought to be From Another Dimension with some speculating it's the same one that these creatures come from around the top of the Behemoth we can also see birdlike creatures which many believe might be the terab buzzards their name of course is based off pterodactyls and they attack the Super Market at one point in the film far more aggressive they have a long beak like nose and will attack humans on sight interestingly kod gets called an annoying Buzzard at one point symbolizing how both she and the creatures are dangerous they're one of the more reptilian sort of creatures and we also have Ones based on crustations that takes us to the Arachne Lobster which also takes clear inspiration from the xenomorph like a lobster it has giant pences which enable it to quickly grab its prey in the film it's more of a grayish color oras the book describes it as being like an angry cooked lobster it's also said to have black lusterless eyes similar to well well you guess that Lobster now as for the arachnid insect type creatures the first one of those I want to talk about is the gray widows the spider like predators are the size of a small dog and they can produce web strands that have corrosive effects these are actually based on the zanti Misfits though the designs of the faces a lot different there's also the Scorpion flies which swarm the store as well and they attack it at night after being attracted by the Light typically they're the terab Buzzard's main food source however they also have their own defense capabilities they're able to inject a deadly neurotoxin that causes swelling that can lead to Suffocation they also joined by the terped which is centipede like creatures that were designed for a Story Board that then got deleted from the movie in that though they were going to crawl through the window cracks and bite someone's head off with it being strong enough to hold a person down lastly in the novel we have something known as the killer kite which is a giant creature that's seen gliding overhead now after the earthquake Mrs Kodi immediately starts saying it's the end of days and the book actually had a hint towards this it was s at one point you could see the feet of God passing by in the mist and some assume this was him cleaning up shop the creatures do roll in in waves like the plague with them even have having some that appear just like Locust you could see the mother's character being safe through divine intervention and ironically she survives at the end it's even possible that because she walks calmly that the creatures don't then begin to attack her this is similar to Mrs carodi and sharks tend to hunt in the same way not panicking around one can often save your life and I love how there's lots of different theories that you can come up with for it she ends up looking at David and then gives the same [ __ ] you eyes at the end when she sees him originally the group were going to escape and then drive by her body webt up however darabond loved the acting so much he thought he should have her survive along with her kids again it could simply boil down to fear and we sees the characters try and get to know each other this of course removes the unknown and makes them feel some sense of comfort however however this is made worse when they go into the back and on the way we see that clicks are already forming led by Norton he's seen as the more rationale one who refuses to believe in the Supernatural monsters even when he's told he stays stuck in his belief and won't go to the back to confirm the monsters exist instead he accuses them of talking behind his back and wanting to turn him into a joke due to him taking himself so seriously he accuses David of assaulting him and causes his own divide due to the fact he can't get out of his own way he sort of becomes like the opposite to the call but refusing to change his mind also leads to his undoing now it's in this back that the tentacle rolls in and we see William sadd's character go from strung and bossy to a comply coward by the end he joins K Mod's cult because fear pushes him to become a broken man this is something we see early on here with the fear of the monsters causing him to be paralyzed sadders work with darab bumper 42 with him appearing in both sha shank and The Green Mile this is the first time he's been in the Mist either as he actually voiced David for the radio Play version as they move the shutter up we can see the Mist is restricted to the door creating a clear sort of barrier of safety it slly lets us know the insight to where it's at and it appears almost like a away from The Parting of the Red Sea this was achieved through Messing with the temperature and making the inside much hotter than the out it's true this miss that the tentacle and attacks with it opening up and then consuming Norm though you can hardly see it we know from the behind the scenes stuff that Norm's wearing a wkit radio shirt this is one of the three stations in M on by King with his longtime collaborator Glenn chadborn helping to provide the artwork this scene was given a little Easter Egan Shazam with one of the doors opening up to show a tentacle coming from the Mist what the tentacle is really after his dog food but it ends up taking normal long with it this causes the first fracture amongst the group because the tough guys failed to act and help to save his life they blame David for not giving him a better warning and we can see how the two sides splinter out from this pot it's made worse by the fact they don't go and then tell people because they don't think that anyone's going to believe them David was there and he's not even sure he believes it andless it so is a doubt in the others they go back in and try and recruit some people but in the end it causes further division Norton refusing to accept their story causes a fce and other start to see it as just being make believe however some do go against their own biases and this helps them to stay alive longer and from here we could have Miss Kodi praying to God to act as his vessel I think the really interesting thing here is that initially she starts praying that God will save the others however however this then switches to make it so that she can save them which clearly highlights the Messiah complex she develops there some moments Cut From The Scene too and in the deleted ones she believed that she could cast out judgment yeah though it seems more like she's saying she can save some of them and the supermarket could be a metaphor for Noah's AR she starts acting like a preacher and reading from the Bible and rattles off about how the world's been corrupted played by Mara Gay Harden the Oscar winner really knocks out the park and completely commands the crowd she correctly predicts that the creatures will come at night and thus the people naturally start to believe her over the clues that she's a villain are there in plain sight even more so if you're Stephen King fan my life for you which is a reoccurring line in that r flag's followers often say to him flag has appeared in a number of King's works with a most notably showing up in the stand he's a demonic presence and maybe kod prays to him which is why she ends up being spared shortly after Mana reveals that she's got a gun and we can see that she's carrying 12 shots in a great little bit of attention to detail in the movie if you count how many times the gun gets fired then you're going to get a total of 12 shots after all these shoots the buzzards he then says how many rounds got 10 left 10 Rounds Jesus and you can't keep counting this down in the film Norton and sacrificial biker head out into the Mist with their initial slow walks not drawing any attention again this backs up the idea that if one remains calm they're fine and it's shot in a similar way to how they film Carol calling her that because her character's name is literally the woman with kids so yeah Carol it is and the biker has a Rob tied around his waist which they're able to use to see how far he gets just realized this biker guys in sh shank as well and and darl bound you son of a [ __ ] you son of a [ __ ] this reminded me a lot of the movie Poltergeist and it helps to show the danger on the other side on the night we then get a personal moment with Jessup and Sally with these scenes being added in for the movie Jessup was created solely for the film the show the reaction to the military and explain what happened without being seen being cut out they then had to give us some lip service about what was going on and thus he was brought in according to the commentary darabond also wanted to drive home the danger that the mob presented to Authority Mrs carodi leads a lord of the fly society that Tak take down even the most powerful figures trapped in the store the night rolls in as do the bugs and I love how we have one seeming like a tiny mosquito but being massive when it gets close up hunted by the buzzards this brings them into the store leading to Sally's death while comodi rattles off scripture Spar she holds her hands out almost like a Stigmata this being what gives her power within the store darabond described her as being the real monster and she shows how those who seek power can often be corrupted by it at the 1 hour two mark Joe sets himself on fire and we then see them stumble into a book rack pausing this we can see every books by Stephen King which you know what are rated everyone loves a bit of Shameless promotion and if your shirt is burned but buy some of ours below the video anyway he later says if they can't help him then they can just put him out of his misery it's little foreshadowing for what comes at the end and shows that some would rather face death than live in the situation Amanda also finds Billy's babysitters overdose on pills again playing on this idea of death being easier however as we learn at the end the supermarket people survive and if she'd held out hope she would have lived through this entire thing now those who aren't moving towards the cult they start to plan making it to David's truck with them working out that the biker made it 400 ft the trucks parked off that distance and the book actually makes a big deal about how he just managed to get a parking spot near the shop which plays off massively here David references how they have their very own Jim Jones on their hand and he wants to get out before they start slipping the Kool-Aid this is of course a reference the real life Jones massacre in which a cult e to convince people on mass to drink cide this reminded me a lot of the story of Abraham who almost sacrificed his own son in order to appease God Dale well not Dale but Dale also says you scare people badly enough you can get him to do anything in the end he's one of the people who's scared to the point that he'll happily let David take him out of his misery Amanda wants to see the good and be below but the others out of them are just way more pessimistic kind of shows why they do what they do in the end as they're more leaning towards the negative than positive David Tellis is some billies and going to go to the pharmacy and that if he's good he'll bring him back a comic upon arriving there we see as David grabs one off the stand and zooming in we can see that this is Hellboy originally they were going to put in a Punisher one there which was an OD to Thomas Jan's movie however Jane said he'd rather not because he and the producers had had a falling out he turned down a sequel and instead they put the Hellboy One there as a nod to his friend Ron pilman speaking of friends you can see the Goon there too which is written by Dar Bond's mate Eric Powell he visited this said during the production and they slipped this in as a little surprise to him the scene also has a clear homage to aliens with a spider eggs ripping off the chest bur to scene they enter and go deeper into it discovering the characters tied up to the walls finally we get the MP coming alive in the same vein as the woman who revealed it was a trap attacked by spiders this plays out like a nightmare with the creatures being something that a lot of humans fear darab bomb purposely framed to be like something from your worst dream and it leads towards a terrifying scene barely escaping all he goes to shoot it but the revolver clicks showing that it's empty this gives us our last six shots and we watch as they return defeated to the pharmacy to make matters worse they discover the Two Soldiers hanging in the back and it thematically shows the guilt that some characters feel this guil of course carries from David failing to fix the window and how he feels like he's put his son in danger later on when they make it at the roow they also come across a child's body in the seat of a School Bus this foreshadows what his guilt will drive him to and I think it's framed purposely similar to what's going to happen to Billy his final em motion is of course over the guilt from killing them and the guilt from not helping the woman to get her kids it all sort of builds up from this moment and we see his attention boilers Jessup is sacrificed earlier in the film Kodi also tells them they'll be on their knees before this is over and we see as her prediction comes true mob rule takes over sense and even though the Bible says not to murder they carry it out because they believe that's the way to go waiting until dawn the group then make a desperate run for but they're caught trying to leave with bags of food the butcher stands there with a knife that he used to stab Jessup and they're surrounded by a mob that thinks sacrifice will save them before things escalate OE shoots Kodi twice leaving them with just four bullets butcher brought a knife to a gunfight yet and the evils defeated but in many ways car Modi was right this is a theory that's been around for a couple of years and it talks about how she was right all along YouTuber polter gips done a big 20-minute video on it and I definitely recommend that he check it out after this haven't got time to do 20 minutes of it but in the end it basically boils down to this Kodi predicted that the creatures would come and then they did and killed off some of the patrons after the sacrifice she said they'd leave them alone and that night they all managed to sleep peacefully she also said if the boy was sacrificed then the nightmare would be over and hey guess guess what happens in the end David ends up killing the boy and right after that happens the Miss goes away perhaps she really was the voice of God and we also see her dying in a Christlike pose arms spread out with a crown of blood and sharp objects in each of her hands she was right mate Thanos was right but that takes us into the movie's ending several are killed as they get to the car including OE who's grabbed by the lobster others are attacked by the spiders with his potentially being punishment for the axe They carried out we also get a willhelm scream and the manager manages to make it back to the store we see from a shot later that they let him back in in however there's some sweat running down his face indicating it might not be a warm welcome should have given them a pay rise you [ __ ] now this ending diff slightly from the book and Kings admitted they improved on his work the final few pages have them make it out to the store but just like the movie they start running out of gas David thinks he can make it about 90 Mi and the plan is that they head out to Hartford the entire book's basically a journal from his point of view and he decides to leave it on a counter of a nearby hjo restaurant from what we can gather he then goes back to the car and the survivors pray they can make their way home it feel like there's no way out of the Mist and the radio isn't picking up anyone anywhere still he says that they have hope which is way more of an optimistic way to close it out however there is basis for this in the source material as David does ponder about killing his son due to it being from his point of view we get his inner monologue and his deepest darkest thought he says that worst comes to worse they have three bullets and four people in the truck which seems like a natural conclusion his State he wished he would have thought of it and it's definitely an ending that will stick with you forever daraban originally wanted to do something crueler than having the woman just driving by and originally a second truck would have people from the market this made David realize he never should have left and it would have been an extra gut punch to what he just gone through however most of the other casts were shooting other things so at this point they were unable to return still though we get a devastating finale in which it seems like the world's been saved sadly though the worlds ended for David and I can't imagine the pain that he'd be going through losing hope is what cost him everything and it plays into what the Mist is truly about the ending is dark like really dark because it shows the darkness that exists within us all push to it we can all become monsters and do horrendous things because of what we believe David believed strongly that things wouldn't work out just as much as Mrs Cary believed in the Lord was this belief that made them go through horrendous things and in the end they both lost it all something so bring about how sad it all is and that shot of the outside of the car it just messes me up just seeing a man his head slumped against the glass it does so much with just so little David then steps out to be consumed by the monster but the only monster he's left with is himself being a bit harsh on the guy he's been through a lot and I think what makes this ending so impactful is that we can see why he did what he did a lot of us would probably act in similar ways out of fear and yeah it's just designed to take the wind out of you hopefully though it's given you a bit of Hope and showing you how not to act eh I guess guess you're still thinking about the family the family murder aren't you but hopefully you think of Hop's always there that's the movie for you stay with you forever but I hope that you've
