The Mandalorian Season 3 was WEIRD.

[Music] it's been a little over a week now since the season three finale of the Mandalorian and I've been left thinking that's it I was extremely excited for this season a few months ago so much so that I binged all of the previous Mandalorian content in preparation I had to watch the book of Boba Fett do you understand how bad that show is for the most part though I really enjoyed revisiting the Mandalorian and I found myself liking it even more after all these years there's just so much charm and personality in those first two seasons the characters are great the action and episodic stories were always so cool and creative and the overarching narrative flowed perfectly so after three seasons of Mandalorian preparation and all of Andor because I had too much momentum to quit I was beyond hyped and ready for season three and then I watched the first episode and it was weird Mando is preparing to go to Mandalore so he decides he wants to revive and bring the currently dead taika watiti Droid from season one and that is the first thing of the Season that I think is weird Mando doesn't get much of a character Arc in this season which is a major problem in itself but Mando does get this weird subplot with the Droid and my main question is why the robot sacrificed himself and made amends so I understand that he greatly appreciated the favor but it's been years since that happened and Mando should have gotten over it by now the task he needs it for is a very small one as we find out in the next episode so it's a stupid waste of time and energy trying to get ig-11 specifically the whole point of the robot subplot in season 1 was that Mando learned to not be racist against robots anymore so by all means there's no point in bringing back the specific assassin Droid what's more frustrating is that it doesn't end up working out so he just gives up and leaves the main point of the episode was for seemingly nothing and there's not much more that happens next Mando fights Pirates very briefly and then says hello to the very salty bogatan and then the episode's over it's only been 30 minutes a general rule of thumb is to allow the first episode to hook the viewer and not make it seem like nothing substantial has happened by the end but whatever it's fine I don't care that much let's just see how the rest goes episode 2 was pretty good actually it had a well-rounded Adventure it felt good to actually accomplish stuff compared to the first episode and it set up some interesting things with Boca tan that was quite a relief despite its Rocky start the show found footing pretty fast but a slight problem emerges from the events of this episode where Mando's goal of bathing in the waters is simply done already the story that felt like it was going to span the season is over before it really began and now the show is required to find a new direction for the season spoiler alert they don't do a great job at that but hey now The Season's really picking up steam you have to imagine the Riders know where to go with it so here's an episode not about the mandalorians at all episode 3 follows Dr Pershing an infrequent side character who I've always liked on his quest to get as far away from the Empire as possible he finds a sort of romance with Elia Kane another recurring ex-imperialist character and they have a pretty fun and engaging hour-long story Dr Pershing is eventually devastatingly betrayed by Elia at the end who's revealed to still be working for moff Gideon this might actually be the best episode of the season but the catch is nothing that happens in this episode makes any difference to the rest of the season Dr Pershing never comes back Elia only comes back for brief Exposition with moth Gideon and if you want to squint your eyes and say the episode was to announce that moth Gideon is still around let me remind you that he was not in the episode funnily enough because I had just watched Andor and the fact that Coruscant was president both my brain completely forgot that this was a Mandalorian episode it's honestly pretty good in a vacuum but it adds nothing to the season as a whole maybe episode 4 Saves the Day who am I kidding literally nothing happened in this episode my brain is starting to rot from all this nothing luckily at the very end we finally get some solid direction for the season where it's made abundantly clear that this is the Bo Katan show now the rest of the season is just that bocatan and her sidekick dinjarin are trying to reconnect the Mandalorian tribes and they do that with some decently cool episodes with cool battles but not a lot of interesting turning points ig-11 is turned into a mech suit for grogu which is kind of hilarious but doesn't seem very practical at all it'll give grogu a decently cool battle in the finale but the Droid gets totaled making me once again ask what was the point but yeah the end has the United mandalorians come to reclaim Mandalore but MAF Gideon shows up and we have the least exciting season finale of the whole show the heroes beat the [ __ ] out of MAF Gideon again the dark saber gets destroyed but in the end they all live happily ever after except for the John Favreau guy the final scene promises the audience that we'll get back to actual bounty hunting next season but I'm confident we're gonna get another moff Gideon return story because they didn't show him die on screen also Mando is still trying to fix ig-11 are you kidding me so yeah the season was very mid and I'm pretty disappointed the second half was marginally better than the first but the whole package is a messy unexcited blah people are [ __ ] on the Jack Black and lizzo episode the most but that's one of the only episodes where I didn't feel dead I also very much enjoyed seeing Christopher Lloyd and Jack Black in the same room as each other I just you know like them oh well time to wait another two years for a show that's not even guaranteed to be good anymore yay okay
