foreign [Music] The Last of Us episode 7 has dropped and once again we can all be devastated emotionally and feel terrible but also uplifted by characters that are great after last week's episode Joel was left Gravely injured and Ellie was hovering over him wondering if he would survive this episode ends the same way what a coincidence but we start with Ellie taking Joel into an abandoned house and searching for anything to help Stitch him up and he tells her to just leave go back get Tommy forget about me you've got to get to this place I'm done Ellie thinks about it and freezes and then we enter a massive flashback which is the meat and potatoes of this whole episode which is called Left Behind which if you've played the DLC you probably instantly know what this episode is going to be like because this one features Ellie and her friend Riley played by storm Reed who's having a great year because missing came out and that was really good and now she's in last of us I'm really happy for her but here we get to see a little bit of what went on before Joel met Ellie and her time over the course of what was probably her favorite night ever that quickly turns dark her friend Riley shows up in her room in the middle of the night and declares that she's become a firefly this is shocking to Ellie because she's being trained to one day fight that very thing but Riley sneaks Ellie out in the middle of the night for a big surprise and takes her to an abandoned Mall which still has power and nobody goes there because they think it's overrun with infected this set is an absolute Wonder of production design I was watching this just completely awe-inspired by the work that this crew has done for this show I mean it really looks like they filmed in an abandoned mall and maybe they did and the fact that I don't know for sure is why the production design and the set decorators and everyone who worked on this deserves so much praise and Riley takes Ellie on a series of what she calls wonders and Ellie is shocked by so many things that aren't necessarily on Riley's list of Wonders like an electric staircase an escalator of course and seeing Bella Ramsey portray Ellie as this wide-eyed awe-inspired kid who's never seen anything like this brought actual Joy To Me foreign I felt real Joy it's amazing but this involves a carousel that still works as well as a photo booth a Halloween shop where they can dress up and listen to music and throughout the course of this episode you begin to really see that Ellie has a crush on Riley and is trying to figure out if she can communicate that and I'm glad that they're retaining all of that from the game I had no doubt that they would uh in today's day and age I'm glad that that's being maintained earlier episodes where they asked Ellie if she has parents or a boyfriend and she's like no and when she has Bill and Frank's magazine she doesn't give a [ __ ] about that she throws it out the window so I'm really glad they're maintaining this and seeing her take a chance on Riley you really do feel this looming sense of heartbreak coming because nobody that's happy and The Last of Us stays happy for too long everyone's always miserable eventually which is why when one of the Stray infected attacked them both we know that Ellie's gonna be okay but when Riley gets bit you start to think about things that Ellie said a couple episodes ago when she said that the person she just helped Joel kill was not the first time that ever happened to her and again I don't remember everything about the game you can correct me if I'm wrong this episode does not show Ellie have to defend herself against Riley after she turns so you wonder exactly what happened and if Riley was the first person Ellie ever killed which is so horrible and even the implication of it is great it's so smart and I have to always consistently put myself in the headspace of people who've never played the game because like I said I'm in a place where I have but I don't remember everything about it and so I'm sort of getting these little mini surprises and going like oh yeah I remember that now and it's nice to kind of feel fresh at least a little bit as I watch the show but for people who've never played the game there's so much that's being hinted at here and this is also the first episode in the entire show so far that was written by Neil druckman this episode also gave a little more sad context to a scene earlier in the show where Ellie stumbled across a Mortal Kombat 2 cabinet and here we get to see her in Ryan be playing that for a while and really enjoying it and just the youthful Glee and excitement that they have for things that we all have right now and take for granted really does kind of ground you and remind you to enjoy the things that are happening around you because you might not always have it I could see people being like oh man I wanted more of Joel and Ellie and we're doing a flashback again and I'm sure there'll be people who are upset about that and they're gonna they're gonna say stuff on the internet but I thought this was masterfully done from an acting standpoint directing production design writing everything the only real concern I have is that there are two episodes left and if season one is too complete the game and of course that's a big if because they could they could do something else there could be a cliffhanger but if season one is to complete the game you know I have two episodes left to do a fair amount of things so the only thing I can think of is either it ends on a cliffhanger and doesn't complete the game or the last two episodes are super long and they're not like 40 minutes or an hour they're like 90 minutes or even two hours we'll see maybe I'm completely wrong and it's something else this show is taking me on a ride and I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way I hope you guys liked episode 7 let me know what you thought of it Down Below
