the universe of jack and daxter has always been extremely fascinating with an air of mystery a world that's origins aren't fully explored leaving its inhabitants and the players to try and fill in the blanks themselves it's only fitting then that the mysterious elements of the law extend to the franchise as a whole with plenty of obscure facts only the most dedicated jack and daxter historians are aware of which is why some of us historians came together on stream in february 2021 to compile a list of facts about the franchise in the form of this iceberg chart from the most well-known among fans to some even the most dedicated fanatics would be unaware of linked in the description below is a google document listing all the sources for the information in this video so if you want the full understanding of everything in this iceberg i'd suggest pulling that up and delving deeper there's a lot of information i've left out to keep this video from being three hours long joining me on this endeavor are some really awesome jack content creators whose names will pop up on screen as they appear so you know who's talking i encourage you to go and subscribe to all these guys they all do excellent content this video is also a part of jack month a community run event celebrating jack and daxter's 20th anniversary to learn more about the event follow the link down below for a full explanation with all that out of the way let's dive into this iceberg daxter death scenes in jack and daxter the precursor legacy as well as jack 3 upon the player dying a short scene will sometimes play showing daxter talking down to jack's corpse making a joke or asking jack don't step into the light jack stop step into the light these short death cut scenes were absent in jack 2 and only play in specific levels in jak 3 like the sewers and the monk temple one of these is of particular interest as it shows daxter asking jack if he can have jack's insect collection this is never referenced anywhere else in the series hey jack can i have your insect collection daxter is an otzel daxter the iconic sidekick of the series was turned into an oxel at the start of the first game an otzel is a cross between an otter and a weasel and this philosophy of combining animals for animal characters was continued in the series with characters such as pekka a monkey and a macaw and the crocodog which is pretty easy to figure out the water slums get seal peace at water slums is an infamous mission in jak 2 due to its large difficulty spike the mission has you ambushed at the end of the slums and you have to fight your way to the other side to escape all the while you're being ambushed by drop ships and crimson guards the water will kill you instantly if you try to swim away and once you've started the mission the game saves you there and won't let you come back to the mission later if you fail like most other missions in the game the mission has become a bit of a meme in the community for how much players struggle with it and how much of a dick move it is to trap the player there i wasn't active in the community when this game was released or the many years afterwards but as far as i can tell the youtuber gexup started the meme of how hard this mission is in his top 10 hardest missions in jak 2 video where he proceeds to lose his mind over how difficult this mission is [Music] will beat this game come on you can do it [ __ ] it [Music] [Applause] there's been a number of strategies fans have come up with to try and cheese the mission such as using the hoverboard to just skate past everything or just punching over and over again to avoid any combat or you can use the chad strap by just playing the intended way and using your arsenal properly even 18 years later everyone remembers this mission as being one of the hardest in the game and left a collective scar on everyone who's played it the yak cows and jack too the yakows were owned by the farmer in sandoval village in the first game and you were tasked with herding them back to their pen after some strange creatures tried to steal them the yakows make a reappearance in the garden areas in haven city in jack too precursors are odzels the precursors the mythical beings who created jack's world and many others like it are the same species as daxter the series played them up to being these all-powerful god-like beings but in reality they were these little fuzzy rats all along this decision was made by naughty dog because they wanted to subvert the tired cliche of the gods being these all-important mythical entities and this decision is pretty divisive in the fan base even today jack is ma this is one of the most debated and complex elements to the series so i'll keep this brief ma was the founder of haven city and we learn in jak 3 that jack's birth name was ma and was part of the lineage of the house of ma at the end of the game ashland says this line wait jack is more vmware then the precursors take jack in their ship to show him the universe jack then appears right behind daxter as if he never left fans have theorized that jack actually did go with the precursors into the past to found haven city then get time traveled right back to where he was making jack the ma who founded haven city there's a lot of debate surrounding this topic many people think he is the ma others think he's simply the descendant of ma and shares his name there's compelling evidence on both sides i would encourage you to play the games and form your own conclusions jack 4 jack 4 is a game fans have been clamoring for since the release of jack 3 in 2004 and especially after the release of the last frontier in 2009 a proper follow-up to the trilogy has been what the fanbase has wanted for a really long time while we never have gotten a true follow-up and it's unclear if we ever will naughty dog did try their hand at making a new jack game during the ps3 days which they called jack iv or jack and daxter for only a handful of people started working on exploring different ways to approach a new game but it was scrapped fairly quickly due to the team feeling like what they wanted to create wouldn't fit in with jack and daxter's world we did get some concept there released via dr naughty dog and it's clear that the team were exploring a more realistic version of the world and characters the team then went on to make last of us hakai hagai is the surname for samos and his daughter kira this isn't too hard to find out a simple google search will show you this but it's on this list because it's actually not stated in any game the first source is the ntsc manual where it says on the map that samus hagai's lab is in sandova village renegade jack 2 was titled jack 2 renegade in pal territories the us and asian versions didn't have the subtitle gta 3 inspired jack too in 2001 grand theft auto 3 was released and became a massive cultural sensation when naughty dog was in the beginning stages of developing jack 2 focus testing found that kids were more interested in mature games than the child friendly type of game jack one was because of this naughty dog wanted to take the jack series into a more mature tone and setting they toyed around with various concepts including the addition of time manipulation mechanics and ended up with a game many claim is a gta rip off jack to added a sandbox style worlds to explore complete with vehicles that you can steal a more involved combat system including guns as well as a more realized and mature story the tony hawk series was also big at the time so they put a hoverboard into the game as well despite jack 2 wearing its influences proudly on its sleeve it is still far from a simple rip-off many people write it off as it is still a platformer through and through and still very much a jack and extra game just with a unique setting tone and story lurker callers the lurkers in jak 1 are all under the control of the main villains gollum maya and to signify this you'll notice that almost every single enemy in the game has a collar around its neck the only one that doesn't have this collar is the lurker shark which is the boundary killer that will eat you if you swim out too far precursor text precursor is the primary written language in the jack universe it can be found on precursor artifacts like precursor orbs and structures like temples as well as signs and documents the language is a substitution cipher where they take the letters of the alphabet and replace them with their own symbols meaning you can translate the language very easily an official translation wasn't released until the jak 2 strategy guide here's a guide you can use to translate to your heart's content the language is also very similar to the indiana jones disneyland ride from 1995. kira voice actor change kira was voiced by anna garduno in the first two games but was replaced with tara strong for the rest of the series it's unclear if kira's almost non-existent role in jak 3 was the result of this change or if the change meant they had to have kira play a smaller role i can't find any concrete information out there however there might be some info in the history of naughty dog which is only available in french we are in the process of translating it at the time of writing so if there is any info i'll definitely update the source dock below either way i'm not a big fan of the change at all i think taro does a good job but anna's voice was a lot more distinct and fit kira better in my opinion crash plant in samus's hut in jak 1 there's a plant that looks exactly like one of the plant enemies from naughty dog's previous series crash bandicoot this was likely an intentional easter egg blow up pelican one of the objectives in sentinel beach in jakarta one was to retrieve the power cell that the pelican stole off the beach you can do this by swimming over to its nest and hitting it forcing it to spit out the cell you then race over to where it landed to collect it alternatively you can jump up to the cannon using the launch pads and blow up the pelican leaving the power cell in its nest waiting for you light flight glitch this is a really old and well-known glitch in jak 3. once you have the light jack flight ability there's a glitch you can pull off where you can fly infinitely if you jump then flap your wings then press circle to activate the light shield and repeat this process of xx circle you can fly infinitely so you can reach places you weren't supposed to or even get out of bounds crew west side hotel the first level and daxter for the psp is the west side hotel which only ever appears in this game as it turns out the notorious crime lord crew frequents here when entering the hotel's concierge notes that their best customer mr crew will be delighted on stacks that clears out the bug infestation pictures of kroy as a child can also be found throughout the hotel vega and daxter there's many characters from the series are pop-up and dax's solo adventure the one that's quite noteworthy is canto vega in the third game he was tatted as a big deal in haven city despite never actually showing up in the second game so it's great to see him in haven before the events of jack 2. psv diversion the ps vita port of the jak and daxter hd collection is infamous for being a miserable way to experience the games all three games have horrendous frame rate issues and loads of glitches i swear every time i replay this version i come across some new glitch just listen to how the music is handled in the first game truly only for the masochists [Music] [Music] racist core so this one's a bit funny in jak 2 during the cutscene the secret to making a bomb core is revealed to be the metalhead leader however in the jack and daxter hd collection for ps3 and vita core's face has glitched out and is in blackface it's become a bit of a meme at this point that core is racist for whatever reason this glitch only occurs when playing through the game's story if you play the same cutscene in the scene player the glitch does not occur white eco this has been another point of contention within the community during the final boss of the first game the four eco colors combine to create light eco but a lot of people have misheard gol saying white eco this can be chalked up to a lack of subtitles and gall's voice being a bit hard to understand the way jack uses the eco in this first game is also quite different to how it's used in jak 3. so fans have speculated that maybe they're two different kinds of eco this however is simply a misconception we can look at the strategy guide or the design bible or the fact that the asset in the games file is named light eco it's always been light eco if you want to see the full breakdown of all the different arguments i'd recommend reading the wiki page linked in the source document below debug mode debug mode is a hidden feature found in the first three jack games which allows the player to access debug text and utilize other features this was discovered in 2018 by a handful of people in the jack community and is present in all retail versions of the games and is accessible using a button combination using this you're able to go into free cam mode make jack fly give yourself any power cells on command fill your inventory with 1 000 orbs and skull gems as well as all equipment and so much more it's listed as debugger mode on this iceberg because that's what most people know it as but it's since been renamed to cheat mode due to the actual debug menus being discovered this is a whole other beast compared to cheat mode and is only accessible on the ps2 version through emulation or if you're using a ps2 tool kit which is a ps2 developer unit this feature gives you access to many more options such as spawning at any point in the game changing the time of day toggling the textures there is so much you can do collectors editions in december 2018 limited run games announced they would be printing physical versions of the ps4 releases of the jack and extra games as well as a big collector's edition for each these included the game complete with a recreation of the original ps2 manual and alternate cover arts a ps2 memory card shaped usb stick a little trinket relevant to that game a poster the full cd soundtrack trading cards and the design bible which we will get into soon these were extremely popular and very hard to get your hands on each selling out in just seconds and limit it to only a few thousand each design bibles as we just mentioned these books known as the design bibles were included in the ps4 collector's editions these are books made from scans taken from the original project binders each member at naughty dog had during the development of the games these are full of concept art details about the world and characters and cut story ideas these are super interesting to read i'd highly recommend you read them yourselves or even maybe check out my videos i did on them who knows sand over village glitch one of the oldest and most famous glitches in the series is being able to visit sandoval village in jak 2. you did it by unlocking scene player act 1 and watching the first cutscene where the gang are in standover before they go through the rift during the cut scene you would eject your disc skip the cutscene and then this screen would pop up you'd then insert the disc again and then you're in sand over but unable to move simply restart the mission and then you're free to explore this used to only be possible on the ps2 version of the game however thanks to debug mode we are now able to do it on any console simply start a new game or watch the opening from the scene player with the debug mode active and then enter free cam mode and skip the cutscene and it's as simple as that the reason standover is even present in the game is because they used a level file in the opening of jak 2 and the reason there are some crates placed in the level is because there's some leftover code from jack one still in the files so instead of scout flies there's crimson guard crates jack checking out kira jesus jack you filthy enemy jack's head tends to be magnetized to whatever npc is close women jack won so often you can find jack checking out kira when she's standing around but there's a scene where jack is explicitly checking her out once you arrive in rock village and open the warp gate kira looks out the telescope to see what's happening to the village and if you look closely at jack you can see him looking down at her ass dark horns and mirror inject two if you walk up to the mirror behind the bar and the hip hog jack's reflection will actually show as dark jack horns however they don't appear while standing still jack has to be moving yellow sage is hot this is a bit of a weird one so as you play through jack one you can visit each stage as hot green blue and red but strangely not yellow keira even says to activate the teleporter at the yellow sage's lab but when we get there nothing it's just the entrance to galan maya citadel there is this weird structure attached to the wall here but does that look like a hot to you even the ntsc manual says the yellow sages lab is here but like where there's a few possible explanations here one is that due to time constrictions the developers weren't able to add another hub so the yellow sages lab had to be scrapped to make way for the final area another idea is that goll and maya simply took over whatever was once there of the elder sages area to make way for their dark eagle factories and such this is plausible i guess it's just kind of hard to believe the yellow sages hut would be situated right in the middle of a lava-filled area right next to a precursor temple that just so happens to be the base of the bad guys adult flood flood despite preferring a baby flat flood in jack 1 we've never actually seen when it's fully grown in the entire series however in the game's power manual and design bubble we're given some interesting details on them flat floods are rare or inspiring predators adults have been spotted with wingspans of up to 15 meters they are canovirus and will feed in almost any warm blooded creature but they tend to prefer those over one meter tall hot coffee hot coffee is an unlockable cut scene in jack x which costs 100 000 precursor orbs it's a short scene depicting tess and daxter drinking coffee together the scene is a reference to the hot coffee mod in gta san andreas which was a cut sex minigame that modders were able to patch back into the game this caused a ton of controversy at the time and this scene was put into jack x as a joke 300 year time skip as we learn in jak 2 haven city is just send over village far off into the future the question is how many years into the future did the rift gate send them it's never actually stated in any of the games and there's actually a few different answers for this the most comprehensive list of sources i found comes from this reddit thread where a user asked about this question one of the jack and daxter wiki administrators user jack himself left a comment listing all the known sources for the time skip i'm gonna quickly go through all these sources to answer this question there's a couple sources that say it's 200 years one is the april 2003 issue of game informer which i couldn't find any scans of online the magazine isn't too hard to find on ebay but i'm not willing to import some magazines just for this a second source for 200 years apparently comes from the daxter website where in brudda's bio it says a couple hundred years this website can't be accessed anymore outside of the use of the wayback machine which only shows this so we can't verify this source either there's a few more sources that claim it's 500 years jak 3's website apparently said this but just like the daxter one it's no longer functional and the wayback machine doesn't provide much for us to work with the july 2003 issue of game pro apparently says 500 years but again i couldn't find any scans same goes for the june 2003 issue of animation magazine these next two sources are ones that i can access but they're not very reliable sources and you'll see why soon one is the uspsp manual for jack and daxter the lost frontier you can see right there that it says 500 years keep this in mind the other source is a document that came on the press disk in the jack 2 press kit i'm lucky enough to own one of these so accessing these documents wasn't an issue in this game overview document when talking about the story it says jack and daxter investigate a strange energy portal that propels them 500 years into the future now for the sources that say it's 300 years this is the correct answer as there are more sources for this number as well as those sources being a lot more reliable let's get back to the jack 2 press kit because yes this is a pretty reliable source however there's two other documents on the same disk that claims it's 300 years as opposed to 500. in this story synopsis document it says after falling into the swirling time rift jack and dax defined themselves in a strange bustling city 300 years into the future then there's this document describing the world of jak 2 where it says at the start of jakk 2 tm our hero and his furry friend get caught up in a time warp and transported some 300 years into the future also in this little fold out that came with the press kit it says 300 years right here so why did that document earlier say 500 years honestly it was probably a typo the same can probably be said for the lost frontier psp manual that we mentioned earlier because the usps2 manual says 300 years right here the jack 3 strategy guide has this section called the story so far where it recounts the events of the series leading up to jack 3 written by creative director daniel ayrie and it clearly says 300 years right here the final piece of evidence and what i think is the most conclusive is this cut piece of dialogue found in the files of an older build of jack 2. this is barren praxis as our city faces its worst threat in 300 years i am faced with serious decisions concerning our future i regret that i have few choices i command you all to return to your homes and say goodbye to your families be assured we will not lose this fight one way or another the time has come to show these creatures what we're capable of when all hope is lost it has been a pleasure ruling over you to the end obviously this never made it into the final game but it's pretty obvious 300 years was agreed upon if they went as far to record the dialogue and store it on the disk even if it went unused jack trips there are certain instances where the player can be moving too fast for the game to load the next area if this happens the game will cause jack to trip in order for the game to have just a few more seconds to load what it needs to it doesn't happen too often but there are some spots where you can get it to happen consistently like here when coming from a forbidden jungle and going to sentinel beach the game needs to deload the jungle and start loading in the beach if you're too fast for the game jack will trip this happens in all three games though the amount of time you spend in vehicles in 2 and 3 makes it a bit rarer to see this is also kind of rare in the ps3 version of the games because the games load much faster on ps3 japanese jack 2. the japanese version of jak 2 is slightly different to other versions of the game by default jack doesn't have his goatee but it can be unlocked with precursor orbs all promotional art for the game also doesn't show his goatee you're also unable to kill civilians in the game instead the crimson guard will come after you if you hit them twice references this is a massive topic to cover so we're going to speed through this jack and daxter have been referenced in several other video games over the years however the jack games haven't made a lot of references to other games aside from the crash plant we talked about earlier and ratchet and clank jack 2 has a billboard with ratchet and clank on it in jak 3 you can unlock ratchet and clank gun courses in jack x having a ratchet deadlocked save file on your memory card unlocks ratchet as a playable character and in daxter you can unlock wearable ratchet and clank and sly cooper masks speaking of the ratchet clank series ratchet and clank 2 has a lot of jack references on the third screen ratchet can be seen playing some games mostly ratchet one and two but it also plays like cooper as well as jack what a two mag tire resort has these floating screens that switch between two images there's a hidden third image which you can see when you destroy one it's an image of jack and dexter jack and daxter are featured on a tv screen in clank's apartment on planet in deco then later on two separate billboards on planet the mosul also on the mosul at the end of the grind boot section where you get the hypnomatic part rather than clank mimic jack and daxter's famous power cell dance in ratchet deadlocked you can unlock jack as a playable character however only player 2 can players in the ratchet and clank movie when clank is scanning ratchet to determine his species daxter comes up on the screen briefly in ratchet and clank rift apart the rhino 8 can bring other playstation franchises into the game including our boys jack and daxter there's also these collectible l orbs which are audio diaries from a long box named mags one of which describes his travels to dimension 31x7 31 x 7 31 x7 where he very clearly describes jack and daxter naughty dog's franchises after jack referenced the games a lot in the first uncharted drake and elena are wearing otzel branded diving gear in all four naughty dog developed uncharted games as well as the ps vita game golden abyss a hidden collectible called the strange relic can be found this is a precursor orb from the jack series the last of us series has a ton of references too many to go over in this video so we'll be leaving out ones such as the names of stores that reference jack and stick to more obvious ones in the first game you can find jack and daxter plush toys in a child's bedroom in the toy store you can find a jack and daxter board game you can unlock a bunch of different skins for joel and ellie by completing the game on different difficulties for ellie you can unlock a jack and daxter t-shirt a jack hoodie a daxter backpack and jack's goggles though they look more like daxter's goggles and the last of us left behind dlc and the halloween store you can find a jackax costume in raja's arcade you can find an arcade game of jack x in the last of us part 2 you can find a few ps3s with copies of the jack and daxter hd collection you can see some characters playing a playstation vita with them playing the lava tube level from drag and daxter you can find a precursor orb similar to how you'd find them in the uncharted series and there's another jack x arcade cabinet you can find jack and nexus started the 2011 game playstation move heroes alongside ratchet and klein and sly cooper and bentley while this may sound good unfortunately the game wasn't considered that great jack and daxter were also playable fighters in the 2013 playstation all-stars battle royale daxter got a cameo appearance in sly cooper thieves and time as a collectible figure and he was a playable character in the playstation 3 game jack and extra were also playable characters in everybody's goal 4 and they were dlc characters and mod nation racers and the same goes for little big planet 2 where they also appeared as dlc characters to top it all off jack and next were also referenced in asterix and obelix xxl2 naughty dog the lost frontier as we know jak and daxter the lost frontier was not developed by naughty dog but instead by high impact games however this game started development at naughty dog in around 2006 the studio had two teams one to work on this psp jack game and the other to get to grips with the ps3 to create uncharted eventually the studio had to abandon this jack game to put all their efforts into getting uncharted finished as the ps3 was infamously difficult to work with the lost frontier wouldn't see any further work until it was handed to high impact games who didn't have much time to complete the game we don't know exactly how much of the game naughty dog finished but according to sam thompson senior producer at sony worldwide studios they'd come up with this really cool tech demo and we had a couple of levels working on the psp the game was going to be awesome we were super excited about it because it was basically taking concepts from jack x but actually fulfilling what we wanted to do with parts that were meaningful you could create your own airships and cobble together all these things with these different stat bonuses and actually have meaningful engagements in the air you could jump from plane to plane it was going to be really cool but we couldn't get anybody here to work on it so we put it on the cooler for a while also according to taylor kurasaki a visual effects artist we had done a lot of work a lot of cinematics on the psp game i was really proud of it that whole opening cinematic in the final game was basically shot for shot what we did despite all this work naughty dog did on the original lost frontier the only thing that has surfaced from this version of the game is these two unfinished cutscenes which aren't in the final game and actually have mike irwin voicing jack they're pretty interesting and you can tell even from these the writing is more thoughtful and more in line with the writing of the original games compared to what we got in the final game but this begs the question how much of the story was actually written under naughty dog a common talking point in the jack community lately is that neil druckmann wrote this game and he also wrote the last of us part 2 which was a pretty divisive game therefore it's obvious he's always been a terrible writer this is used as a smear against the last of us part 2 and by extension neil druckmann because of how bad the story of the lost frontier is but that's only half right neil did in fact work on this game but it's not as simple as he wrote the game the reality is that neil druckmann and richard lemarchand who both started at naughty dog during jak 3 worked on the original design and story for this game and daniel aery who was the creative director for the whole jack series wrote the original script this isn't to say these three are to blame for the terrible story we ended up getting because we don't know what their version of the story looked like they only wrote the first draft of the story high impact obviously made some changes to the script and plot we do have some insight into how much of the story naughty dog wrote thanks to this interview with dallas robinson an environment artist who worked on the lost frontier at high impact according to him naughty dog hadn't made much progress on the game but a lot of the core story ideas were there from the start the whole sky pirate idea was naughty dogs eco running out was a naughty dog idea i believe the idea that the precursors just never finished making the planet was a naughty dog idea i will say that dark daxter was a high impact idea so yeah if you're not a fan of that you can blame us jack's eco powers like the rocket boost jump thing were a high impact idea as well oh some locations were directly from naughty dog concept art the airship graveyard is one i can remember i would recommend reading through this whole interview it's not very long but it's about the most information we have about the development of the game on the high impact side of things to summarize though neil druckmann isn't responsible for this game being terrible the whole history of this game is just riddled with bad luck and is much more nuanced than druckmann bad it's unfortunate that naughty dog didn't get to fully realize their vision for this game and it's a shame that high impact games wasn't given much time at all to work on her leading to a pretty subpar game sam thompson also commented on this game after the fact as he went on to say at the time it looked like high impact games was going to be able to do a pretty good job with it i don't want to say anything disparaging i like the guys at high impact but if we had to do it all over again we would have done some things differently in the execution of the lost frontier i'm not happy with that being jack swan song i think we could have done it a lot better memory card corruption when jack x first released a lot of players seem to experience a glitch where the game would get stuck while trying to auto save this caused some players to have their memory cards corrupted as far as i can tell this only happened on the ps2 slim with certain copies of the black label release sony offered players affected by this glitch the ability to send their memory cards off to sony so they could attempt to fix the corruption abu inspired daxter one of the lead animators at naughty dog john kim was inspired by abu from aladdin when approaching daxter's animations dastard was uh k uh i guess one of the things that i drew as far as inspiration was abu aladina naboo he was squirrely he was he was literally just oliver jack in aladdin is all over uh the main character and um and yeah and he would do the same thing in in in the game uh you know if he does a spin kick he would spin around him and and he'll string back and come back like a rubber band and so yeah all that ideas i think heavily for me as an animator came from uh came from aladdin speed run tricks boosted uppercuts are done by slowly walking off of a ledge and just as jack's feet slip off performing an uppercut spin this gives a bunch of distance in a short amount of time and is used to clear large gaps some examples of this in the speedrun are skipping activating this blue eco pad to get to this power cell on this platform the entire robot climbing section by performing a boosted from this platform and doing two in a row here from the canon tower lava chip skip is the biggest skip the game has ever seen it allows runners to drop the power cell requirement from 72 down to 20. the goal of the trick is to activate a checkpoint halfway through the first section of the level on foot skipping the power cell requirement it's performed by entering lava tube out of bounds and then waiting 30 seconds for jack to do an idle animation once it's done this walk back towards volcanic fader to low to that checkpoint then going back to lava tube jump around the trigger for that level then go back inbounds and utilize these cool spots to make it just over halfway through this section of the level once here you'll want to start holding one of the four face buttons and wait for jack's idle animation to happen this will cause the game to check your location in relation to the nearest checkpoint and because you're closer to the checkpoint further in the level killing jack will spawn you there this skip saves around 31 minutes the hover glitch is done by doing a left or right l1 trick on the chat board while holding the stick only half way then cancelling it with an a1 trick while holding the stick all the way up or down this allows you to repeat the trick in infinite amount of times and it's used throughout the entirety of jack 2 and 3. for instance you can skip the entire weapons lab level in jack 2 and you can also skip the entire second act of jack 3 by hovering into the palace ruins level at the end of the game [Music] mars tombskip is done at the very start of the jack 2 speed run and lets you skip 67 of the game first once you escape the prison you'll want to go out of bounds here and die this loads jack on the other side of the barrier next you want to go out of bounds here which bypasses this barrier and then you drive up to mars tomb and use the zoomer to drive up the slope you jump and land on this platform the speed runners usually do a boosted uppercut here to fall into the void and perform a death warp but you can also go to the right into the elevator shaft and as soon as you see this door open open the menu and restart the mission this will also put you in front of the entrance then jump on this ledge uppercut into this part of the wall and then you're in the tomb and able to complete the level morgan morgan was the name of jason rubin's black labrador who passed away at age 13 during the development of jack 2. the game is in memory of her as shown in the credits there's also signs placed in haven city that translates to reed morgan and the power station in jak 2 as well as the freedom hq in jack 3 there's these monitors which display a lot of text and when translated read morgan good dog there will never be another i will always love you morgan i miss you 13 years hard time morgan is still missed after a year has passed jack and daxter cut levels the design bible for the first game is chock full of interesting cut content some of the more interesting content being the cut levels this here is an early concept of the world map and you may notice there's a lot more levels here than what we ended up getting in the final game first off there's not three villages but five each having three full levels despite having different names a lot of the levels here are early concepts of the levels that made it into the final game there seems to be no sign of geyser rock or fire canyon but seaside village beach jungle and misty island appears to be sand over village and its respective levels rock village and its levels seem to be accounted for with sunken village swamp sunken ruins rolling hills and ogre mid boss which is referring to claw for the next village we seem to have only gotten volcano village and snow as volcanic crater and snowy mountain but we do have some interesting concept art of the sierras the level would have a scaling the side of a massive mountain i wish this made it into the game the next level lava mines could be spider caves counterpart since it already has a lot of mining equipment especially around the precursor robot the next village is stilt village its levels being precursor ruins savannah and cave under falls spider caves is full of water in its concept are so cave under falls might be another level it's based off of the last village is the underground village and its levels are precursor foundry underground forest and underground boss citadel which leads into the final boss the final game felt shorter than it should have been so honestly i'm salivating just thinking about how all these levels would have been like this map and the names gives us a vague idea and from what we know some of them would have been absolutely amazing especially precursor foundry and ruins we also have this strange image that was found in the files of a jack 2 demo disc and could possibly point towards even more cut levels it's kind of hard to tell what's going on though so here's a cleaner image someone made online it appears to be the same map as the one used for jack one's manual except there seems to be some new areas and paths drawn over the top of it there's the possibility that it's an older version of jack one's map but all the new areas are rougher than the map so it's likely a designer was messing around or maybe it's a very early idea for the world map for jack 2 which could explain why the areas on the map don't seem to look like any of the cut levels from jack one's design bible something that's very interesting though are the paths connecting a bunch of the levels together all leading back to precursor basin these are all likely meant to be traversed with the zoomer which would kind of make precursor basin something of a travel hub if this is an early version of jakuan's map then it could be an alternate way to travel between levels if it's an early map of jak 2 then it could be a way to include a bunch of the old locations into the new game possibly project y when jack and daxter first went into production the game was codenamed project y the reason is called project y is the game before jack and daxter crash team racin was co-named project x while in early development so their next project was project y until they came up with the name jack and jaxter goal the production of jack and daxter started out with andy gavin creating an entirely custom programming language known as goal standing for game oriented assembly lisp the entire game was created and compiled using goal one of the challenges when creating the crash games on ps1 was whenever making changes to a level they would have to wait 8 hours for the game to recompile so they could see the result of the changes in game this was one of the biggest things andy wanted to address with this new compiler the ability to do complex debugging and code edit and wow needing to reboot or recompile the game because the language was completely custom they were able to build the engine specifically around getting the most of the ps2 though one of the challenges of working with gold was only andy understood the language so any changes to the compiler had to go to him map text jack and daxter's manual wasn't a conventional manual like we're used to it was actually a map of the game's world on one side with more general information on the other however the pal and ntsc maps are pretty different the ntsc map doesn't have a whole lot of info and it was also missing this whole paragraph of precursor text circling the map this was exclusive to the pal copy of the game i'll just read out the whole thing in ancient dreamless uninvaded sleep the silent giants wait to be awakened deep will their slumber be silent their once echoing voices until the world has no memory of their beginnings in the gloom they will watch and they will wait those who go to them for answers will return only with new questions but these will come when silence ends the one who carries the light will awaken the voices with him one whose fate was twisted towards darkness long ago in the time before time when the light bursts from the earth the answers to the questions will begin but only begin for still the world will not be ready to learn the truth of its past or the secrets of its future so there's a lot to unpack here i'm under the impression that most of this is meant to be ambiguous one of those things you're meant to draw your own interpretations from because it clearly doesn't reference any events in the game it almost seems like it's talking a lot about the precursors and the backstory of the world let me give my quick thoughts on this there is two interpretations i derived from this and they differ on what the silent giants could be let's go through them one at a time first the silent giants could be referring to the giant precursor robots scattered everywhere in the world they are non-functioning giant robots silent giants they wait to be awakened waiting to be activated once more silent their once echoing voices until the world has no memory of their beginnings could refer to the fact that no one actually knows the function of these robots not even the rocks have any memory of their origin those who go to them for answers will only return with new questions perhaps when people try to analyze these giants to understand their function they end up with more questions than answers but these will come when the silence ends here it's referring to the answers perhaps the answers will appear when the robots are activated once their silence ends those who carry the light will awaken the voices there's two things i gleaned from this and one refers back to the design bible in the original story synopsis jack daxter and kira would discover a precursor robot underground and power it up with the light eco so perhaps this line refers to anyone who carries light eco will awaken the robots it is more likely however that it's referring to jack because it goes on to say with him one whose fate was twisted toward darkness long ago this to me sounds like daxter as his fate was twisted by dark eco however thanks to hindsight the roles here can easily be reversed the one who carries the light could be daxter as we know him to be a precursor and the one whose fate was twisted towards darkness could be jack because of his fate to be part of the dark warrior program in jak 2. it continues with him one whose fate was twisted towards darkness long ago in the time before time when the light burst from the earth the answers to the questions will begin but only begin for still the world will not be ready to learn the truth of its past or the secrets of its future honestly i'm really not sure what to make of this last section the pacing of the sentences makes it a bit hard to keep up with what's what before i said the silent giants could be referring to the precursor robots and it seems to fit pretty well but it also could be referring to the oracles while the oracles aren't exactly giants they seem to fit the description of everything else pretty well the oracles do in fact wait to be awakened as the oracle in sandova says who awakens the oracle wait one of you has the light within from before time i have watched and waited for the true hero to return the oracles haven't spoken in a very long time their once echoing voices are now silent until the world has no memory of their beginnings in gloom they will watch and they will wait those who go to them for answers will only return with new questions this makes sense because of how cryptic the oracles are even now what exactly they were implying is still pretty mysterious it could also be argued that jack and daxter are the only ones who were able to awaken the oracles the one in sandova seemed pretty surprised to be awakened and this text says the one who carries the light will awaken the voices and like we just talked about the one carrying the light could easily refer to jack or daxter the rest of this interpretation is pretty unchanged from my previous analysis honestly i think what these silent giants are could go both ways maybe originally they were planning on having some of the robots act similar to the oracles but decided to make them separate either way this map text is really cool and plays up the mystery of the world and the precursors even further and it isn't even in the game which makes it even cooler just a little side note i just wanted to say that when i was a kid i always used to translate my map for fun but never understood a single thing that it could have been referring to it's so cool for me now analyzing what this could mean because it's the first time i've gone through it since i was a kid and it's actually so interesting this was a lot of fun to go through again seems death originally the character seam from jak 3 was going to be killed off at the end of the mission rescue scene at monk temple siem gives jack the time map and talks in a very raspy whispery tone the reason for this line delivery is because seam was originally going to be crushed under some rubble but they decided not to go with this ps4 glitches the ps4 ports of the jack games aren't the best but they're at least playable however they've had some pretty game breaking bugs in the past which were thankfully patched out so let's go through them real quick this texture glitch could be done in the pal version of jack one by switching from 50 to 60hz a few times it absolutely wrecks the game jack 2 also had a game-breaking bug upon release in pal territories except this one wasn't avoidable for whatever reason the game was slowed down by about 16 percent effectively putting the game into slow motion this didn't affect the ntsc release and was patched out pretty quick around a year after the ports were released they dropped a big patch for each game fixing some bugs and adding a way to flip the camera controls for jack 1 and 2. however the patch for jack x made the game completely unstable the game would crash pretty consistently and the weirdest fact of all some of the cars didn't have any wheels you could start a race and have no wheels on your cars making them useless a patch was quickly released to fix this as well as the crashing issues but come on this is pretty wild and finally this bug is still present in the main trilogy and has never been patched out if you leave jack standing still he will very slowly start sliding for whatever reason so if you leave the game going with jack near a ledge don't be surprised to find that he fell in third protagonist in a december 2001 interview with some naughty dog staff on psx extreme evan wells revealed that early on jack and daxter was going to have a third protagonist when asked about how long in the game and characters took to develop evan replied the game design itself pretty much maintained a steady course from inception to final product but jack and daxter themselves definitely went through some changes early on our design actually called for there to be a third main character besides the main hero and his sidekick there is to be a cute pet-like creature as well we wanted to evolve the pet like a tamagotchi depending on the way you played the game the pet would grow up to be a different creature we quickly decided that our time and energy was better spent concentrating on developing just two strong characters drowning jack while swimming jack will automatically surface after a set amount of time however if you manage to get jack stuck while he's trying to surface the game will just kill him so the player doesn't stay stuck fake desert trees in jack 3 the mission glide to volcano has you gliding across the whole desert what's kind of odd is the fact that the desert below you is littered with trees even in areas that don't have any trees it was likely done to make it look a bit nicer and less empty mike irwin casting when naughty dog was looking for the new voice for jack and jack too they were looking for someone who could portray both jack's human side and his raging site so they put out a breakdown saying they were looking for someone who sounded like the incredible hulk a week prior to naughty dog putting out this job listing mike irwin had just finished filming his role as a young bruce banner in the 2003 hulk movie his role playing a young hulk is what caught naughty dog's attention which landed him a shot at playing jack and after laying down a voice track they decided he was right for the role seems gender it's never been super clear what gender seem is in fact that's one of the first things people remember about them this initial concept art depicts same as male but every subsequent concept art has seemed just as androgynous as their final design to further add to the confusion there's this line from daxter what are you working on monk boy as well as the trophy you get for rescuing seam at the temple dude in distress a play on the phrase damsel in distress there's also a couple lines in the jack and daxter trilogy dvd movie that are also a bit iffy when seam is introduced daxter says next on the freakazoid list was this uh individual then later on he says and then that crazy monk chick thingy showed up again even the design bible goes out of its way not to gender seem so maybe this ambiguity was intentional perhaps but we have some more reliable sources claiming that same is in fact a woman in the jack 3 commentary we have the writer dan ayrie and an animator referring to seem as she and we also have the jack 3 strategy guide referring to her as she it is pretty cool for the game to have a character like this which sparks this sort of dialogue about gender stereotypes with many fans as head canon that same is non-binary or gender fluid but it seems like same is canonically a woman developer pictures in jack 2 and 3 there's a picture of the developers hidden pretty well in the city and jak 2 it's hidden in the small corner here it's not very hard to get into but there's an intended method using visible platforms you can squeeze in there using different methods though jack 3's developer picture is way more well hidden though and for many years was thought to be only accessible with the glitch we mentioned earlier the light flight glitch this lets people to believe the glitch was intentionally left in the game however thanks to an old speedrunner and glitch hunter dj tomjak 73 we know that there's an actual hidden path to the death pick first you'll need to dive under this building then there's these invisible platforms you need to climb and when you're at the top you need to jump over this bit then you'll fall down then go around the corner to find the box the video shown right now was posted in 2018 but tom jack says in the video that he found this two years prior it's pretty crazy it took us so long to find it the face and the mountain speaking of hidden developer pictures this one's kinda weird on the final stage of jack 1 where you fight golden maya if you look really closely from the arena you can vaguely make out a face in the distance with the help of debug mode we can get a good look at this face and also find out that this texture with the face is repeated all over these mountains this is the ripped texture question is who is this it is theorized that it could be adam marquis who was a texture artist on the series his art station page has an assortment of really beautifully hand-painted textures from the series but we don't see this specific one which makes complete sense he obviously isn't posting every single texture from all the jack games seek did send him an email asking if he knew who this person was but at the time of writing he's yet to get a response he will leave a pinned comment and update our sources document if we end up getting an answer from him or anyone else who knows who this person might be battle chasers inspiration for the jack series came from absolutely everywhere but one that stands out is battle chasers jason rubin said in this interview the character inspiration was more joe matara who did battle chasers the comic book and miyazaki-san who wrote princess mononoke it's even more noteworthy when you look at the logo for jack and daxter and battle chasers jack very clearly took inspiration from this design queens of the stone age in the jack x intro cut scene there's a wicked action scene of jack in a car chase with the song you think i ain't worth a dollar but i feel like a millionaire by the band queens of the stone age playing over it towards the end of the cutscene where jack rescues daxter from the bar another queen's song plays song for the dead these two songs were picked by the video editor taylor kurasaki while editing the scene originally they were just placeholder tracks until they found something equally as good or scored something themselves in the end they thought these tracks fit the scene perfectly so they kept them i'd recommend going to listening to those songs they're really really good jack won trailer music in the earliest trailers for jack and daxter the music used for them is very eastern sounding and gives the game this aura of wonder and intrigue later trailers go for a more orchestral fun sounding vibe which is fine but there's just something about seeing these really old builds of the game with this mysterious almost eerie sound track that really gets to me in the e3 2001 trailer which was the very first trailer for the game the song adiamus amos by ardy amos plays in some later trailers including the trailer on one of these demo discs that came with ps2s it plays the song in a ocean of joy by dreamcatcher this song is really mesmerizing to me and i really love the tone they were going for with these early trailers for copyright reasons i can't play these songs but i encourage you to go and watch these trailers they're linked in the source document the lost levels back when jak and daxter came out the game had this promotional website in the pal region jakandaxthelegends.com which was promoted on the back of the game case the ntsc region had a completely different website this website had a playable little game on it called the lost levels it was a java based 2d sprite adventure where you play as jack wandering around sandoval village and forbidden jungle talking with npcs collecting various items and doing small quests for the villagers it's a cute fun little d-make of jack and daxter or is it according to the info that was on the website which we can't access anymore the lost levels is the very first jack and daxter game i'm going to read what the wiki says about the legend of the game it's not the exact wording the original website had but it's close enough the basic tale of the precursor legacy has been around for ages but was eventually all forgotten however when jason rubin and andy gavin got out of college and formed naughty dog they were contacted by a man named gil akaron gill archeron lived on an island near tokyo and was rather reclusive he contacted them asking if they would help him design a game based on the jack and daxter legend they only managed to design a few characters before they lost contact with akaron later after designing crash team racing rubin and gavin remembered the story and sought to contact ocaron again it turned out that soon after contacting a japanese video game company to make his game the recluse had disappeared without a trace they managed to discover a few of the old files of the jak and daxter game which they later modeled their game after the files were put up on the website jack next to legends.com as the lost levels of course this isn't actually true it's just a little game they put on the website to promote the real game but tying this tale with it makes the game seem a lot more mysterious than it actually is which as a kid was really mystifying and made the game seem way cooler the game was legitimately lost for many years as in 2012 the website was taken down and the game went with it it wasn't until march 2020 when this game was finally recovered to make a long story short reddit user crew reached out on the jack subreddit saying they recreated most of the game but was in need of a few key files after reaching out i was able to provide those files and we got the game in a fully playable state for the first time in around 8 years if you want to learn more about this we were featured in a pc gamer article about this topic which is linked in the source document as well as my video on the game which details how to get the game running for yourself as well as my full annoying playthrough i didn't want this to be half an hour long there were other flash games made for the other games in the series this video by vtnv which goes over every old jack website and flash game is linked in the source document you should give that a watch jack x soundtrack when looking for a composer for jackax naughty dog wanted bands to do it and ended up reaching out to billy howardel of the band a perfect circle naughty dog said they liked the other worldliness of their music they originally wanted 20 songs but billy went on to say in a games by interview that he wouldn't be able or wanted to write that many so instead he had the idea to write about four or five songs and do 15 remixes for each a bunch of them were done by danny loner formerly of nine inch nails who hit a brick wall with the remixes and started writing his own stuff for the game eric bass a friend of howard elves and dean mentor a former guitarist of faith no more also did some of the remixes in terms of performing the tracks former perfect circle drummer josh freeze did most of the drums with adam willard of the offspring and joey castillo of queens of the stone age doing some other tracks paz len chun tin who also previously played in apc played bass on a couple of the tracks guitarist for apc troy van lewen and wes borland guitarist for limp bizkit also played on a couple tracks it's pretty crazy that so many big name musicians played on this soundtrack and it's also crazy that none of them except billy howardel were credited in the credits of the game we only know of their involvement thanks to an interview with howardel jack one voice actor this one has me a bit stumped jack's voice actor in the first game is not credited anywhere in the game or manual when looking this up online it says a guy named aaron law voiced him however i cannot find a single primary source for this information no interviews no special thanks nothing i'm inclined to believe it's true that it was him but i don't know why there isn't a single source cited on any wiki or imdb page just doing a google search of jack voice actor it'll come up with aaron law mike irwin and josh keaton so it's not hard to find this information but the lack of any real source is the reason why this entry is so low on the iceberg if anyone has any source please share it in the comments or dm me on twitter or discord because i'd really love to see it fishing hard mode after finishing the fishing mini game for jack 1 if you stand next to the fisherman and press left left right right left left right right x you are able to talk to him again and replay the fishing minigame the fish becomes super fast and it never ends there are some really cool phases and the last phase becomes unfair with eels spawning right in front of fish this was discovered by the jack speedrunner das while playing through an emulator and noticing the game was looking for player inputs while standing next to the fishermen we then found out a few months later that this code was accessible to us all along the japanese strategy guides actually have this code in them so it's crazy to think that japanese players have heard about this all along one extras it is possible to beat jack and daxter with only pressing the x button once by keeping it held down for the whole playthrough with the use of crouch uppercuts backwards boosteds with crouch uppercuts and holding the x button to gain more height and jump off the pads the x button is pressed and held at the start of the fishing mini game because it unlocks misty island which has a lot of power cells but more importantly holding down x allows you to drive on the zoomer through fire canyon mountain pass and lava tube and it lets you finish the final boss jumps become extremely hard with this challenge and if you're electrical you have to save and load to get out of it hugo martin you may have heard of hugo martin he's the game director under recent doom games he's kind of a household name in the doom community and he actually got his starting game in working on jack x utilizing his background in our mode of design he worked on naughty dog from jack x to unjared one then went on to do some contract work on to land in a full time position at id software e3 2001 this is referring to when jack and daxter was first shown off at e3 2001. the only footage we have is extremely low quality but we can make out exactly what's happening on stage we have jason and andy talking about the game revealing the very first trailer and showing off how their seamless open world works in action and how they utilized the technology of the playstation 2. the game was also playable at this incredible looking booth at the event and thanks to some ign clips we're able to see some gameplay this is a very old build of the game and as such you'll likely notice a ton of differences such as jack's voice sounding a lot like his japanese voice actor and the level layouts being slightly different for example this gap between the grassy areas where the power seller is was completely absent in this earlier build the journey back jack 3 the journey back is the best game in the jack and daxter series developed by the mercenary and released in 2005 this flash game is truly something to behold sorry pal but this is the only way i'll never forget you a decently fun 2d jack and daxter flash game it's full of meme worthy moments excellent writing and the best ending to any jack game fight me the first thing released for this game was an opening cut scene outlining the plot in 2004 there were a couple demos released not long after then the full game was released the next year it was then followed up with the gold edition which is the definitive version of the game i implore anyone watching to go play through this for themselves it truly is a masterpiece quintuple jump in jak and daxter there's a lot of ways you're able to get height but the maximum amount of times you can gain height is five here's how to do it walk into some yellow eco which gives you one boost of height then do a double jump in mid air putting you at three then fire the yellow eco which lifts you up again putting you at four then spin at the end making that five this isn't exactly useful but it's really cool to pull off cut content there is far too much cut content from this series to talk about in one video so for this one we're lumping these four together because they are fully functional editions that were simply scrapped in january 2021 some jack and daxter researchers were able to uncover the unused cutscene in the retail version of jack and daxter but without any dialogue however they were able to get their hands on the cut dialogue from an older build of the game it depicts goll and maya discussing what to do if jack and daxter proved to be a threat to their plans from the looks of things it seemed like the scene would have played after the player finished missed the island for a full explanation on how this was uncovered go ahead and read the description of luminar lights video of the scene the july 2003 build of jak 2 has an unfinished but fully playable mission that didn't make it into the final game defend deport wall it sees jack and torn man and tara to top the wall at the port defending it from a metal head attack it even ends with a fully animated and voice cutscene giving torn a resolution to his character arc it's a shame we didn't get this mission in the final game though it doesn't look very fun the boom stick is a cut weapon from jakk2 which was replaced with the peacemaker through the use of hacks it can be accessed in the earliest demo release for the game it shoots a small projectile that explodes it's very hard to aim and can even harm jack the design bible has some pages outlined in each weapon and it describes the boomstick as having a remote detonation function the unused boomstick doesn't have this function and neither does the peacemaker this unused enemy would have appeared in the second sewer level in jank3 it's known as the scouter robot and is present in the july 2004 internal build of the game it has most of its animations has unfinished attacks and you can kill it its model and animations are still present within the files of the final game but none of its code is also in the july 2004 build of jack 3 is an unused dark jack power the dark punch while in his dark form jack will do this charge up animation then launch himself up with both fists towards the enemy then immediately revert back this power was replaced by the dark strike in the final game which is very similar and again from the same build we have an early version of the mass inverter instead of making the enemies around you float it fires a black hole that sucks in everything around it enemies vehicles and even jack it's unknown why this weapon was cut but it was likely due to how powerful it was time cutter the time cutter is a plot point that was cut from jack 2. it was going to be the ship that brought mar to jack's planet and was planned to be in the underport where jack and sig would have found it during that mission it's unclear how early this plot point was cut from the game but the reason we know of its existence is thanks to the script page that was included in the mega scrapbook which is unlocked after collecting 200 precursor orbs in hero mode as you can see the lines of dialogue that aren't crossed out ended up in the final game but this whole paragraph of text was cut it seems the time cutter was going to be a big part of this mission as it says the jack looks at the controls implying that they might have started operating it this theory is backed up further by the pieces of cut audio found in the files of earlier builds of the game welcome to the time cutter powering up time cutter systems we also have some concept art of the underport which looks a lot like a sunken ship and what looks like controls to the time cutter these controls still appear in the final game although they're not used for anything or even mentioned this seems to be the only remnant of this cut plot point still present in the game jak 3 sewers the sewer levels in jak 3 are kinda confusing there's a total of three sewer levels the first one is located in the destroyed section of the city the second is in the industrial section and the third is in the new section of haven there's a number of design choices that make navigating these levels really confusing so let's break it down a bit the first room of the first level looks like this a massive open area with a big waterfall into nothingness then at the end of the level it looks like this a path with a circular platform that leads to the exit for some reason there's also this path here complete with non-functioning gas platforms which leads nowhere the second sewer level is fine for the most part it starts with this area which introduces these gas platforms we saw earlier but what's this the exit looks identical to the entrance of the first sewers this third sewer level is where things get truly dumb the first room is almost identical to the final room of the first sewers the main path you're meant to go through is the same as the non-functioning path from the first one this whole area in the middle is copied and pasted from the first area except it doesn't have a path for you to get over there however if you do get there you'll be greeted by a door that doesn't open and a platform that once activated with this button will bring you over to the main path this platform and the sound effects tied to it are nowhere else in the game this level ends with you looping back to the entrance of the second sewer level this whole area looking exactly like the first sewer level only makes navigating the sewers more confusing and makes you think this is connected to the first level when it isn't [Music] where are they now in the jack 3 strategy guide there's a section in the behind the scenes chapter detailing what happened to all the characters from jack and daxter and some of the characters from jack too this whole section is mostly played as a joke having characters doing tv interviews and opening casinos and such but it does give names to a lot of the characters who previously didn't have any like the fisherman's name is ollie and the farmer's zeb i'd recommend going to read this for yourself it's pretty entertaining it is noteworthy however they tease a potential return of golemia it's played as a joke like the rest of jakuan characters but they actually foreshadowed the plot of jack x when talking about crew which is pretty cool manga featured in coral core comics this cute little jack and daxter manga ran from february 2002 to february 2003 doesn't follow the story from the game nor does it tell its own overarching story it's a collection of short antics based stories set in the precursor legacy world unlike the crash and ratchet mangas that were also made the jack manga was never re-released in standalone volumes which is a shame what's also interesting is it seems the artist for the manga also provided some low comics for the japanese official perfect guide there is currently an ongoing effort to get scans of all comics featured in korokoro and so far jack and daxter is still missing two of them the owner of the site has two chapters that he still needs to upload so we're only missing the october 2002 and the february 2003 issues if anyone has access to these missing chapters please reach out to zeke or the owner of this site it's a piece of jack and daxter last media at the moment that deserves to be archived hole in lost precursor city it turns out this room in lost precursor city has a hole multiple in fact there are entrances and exit oh and there's also some random hole under the water it gives you a clear view of the power cell you get for raising the chamber problem is unless you're in debug mode it's really hard to get in a position to actually see through it i had initially found it while messing around in debug mode but it turns out you can see it without cheats however it's not easy to do there's a button that brings up these platforms that only stay up for a small amount of time they lead to another platform with a power cell if you ignore the timed platforms entirely and just try to swim to the platform with the power cell and move your camera as close to jack as possible you'll get a small glance of the power cell below this is very unintuitive but it might be possible for it to happen to a new or experimentative player jack x vinyl back in 2006 a website called so much silence dot com which seems to be a personal blog by a hip-hop artist apparently named kevin held a competition where you could win two 12-inch finals one for the con a psp title and jack x both featuring exclusive songs and remixes the author of this article said in order to win the competition you had to guess what two albums they would grab from a fire or while stranded on an island a winner would then be selected randomly from the correct entries only six people commented on the post and i can't find any follow-up post announcing any winners or correct answers i don't know if these vinyls were only available through this competition on this random blog but these vinyls are really rare so i can only assume this was the only way to get your hands on one i happen to own one of these and have it documented on the jack and daxter archive terry this is a big one during the jack 3 mission defend hq from attack there is a very very small chance that the game will spawn in this giant robot he will follow you around really slowly and attack animations will play out but he can't deal any damage at the moment we're unsure what causes him to spawn at first we thought his appearance was just a rare glitch but references to him in the game's files have since been found referring to him as roboguard giant which seems to indicate that he was intended to be in the game at some point if the player manages to kill terry by damaging him during his attack animations whatever enemy replaces it in the game's memory will retain his size this explains red terry which is less common than blue terry for this reason i've also been told that a giant spy droid can also appear through this process when this happens these enemies act the exact same way they normally would the only difference being their size the reason he's named terry is because i came across him for the first time on stream and that's the first name that came to my head when thinking of a name for him and he certainly elicits a reaction when he shows up on stream that's for sure holy sh oh my god oh my god holy [ __ ] what the holy [ __ ] oh my god guys holy [ __ ] that actually scared the [ __ ] out of me holy [ __ ] what [Applause] [Applause] don't kill me what the [ __ ] what the [ __ ] what the [ __ ] man oh oh i'm lightheaded from that i don't even know what to say jack x codes during the various cutscenes of jacks that include live broadcasts there are some precursor text that scrolls by at the bottom of the screen when translated it's mostly a bunch of random statements like the precursors are watching and tess loves daxter but in the middle of the text there's a cheat code hold l1 and r1 together then press triangle triangle circle square circle square x triangle x circle for a prize the only problem is inputting this code doesn't do anything it doesn't work during a race in the pause menu or in the secrets menu we have no idea what this code is for or how to activate it even today the jack x strategy guide doesn't mention this code at all i encourage you people to try and figure out what this code does who knows it might not even be for this game it could be for ratchet deadlocked or sly 3 or even daxter precursor orb typo the ntsc and pal covers of jack and dax to the precursor legacy each have a different secret message hidden on the orbs in the background on the ntsc cover the message seems to say power on and on the pal cover it says one destiny however the last letter on the pal cover is obscured during the iceberg stream martian had discovered the orb for the game's trailer has the same text as the orb on the pal cover and with further inspection it seems the message has a typo instead of a y the letter we were expecting the last letter on the message was a zed a theory to how this could have happened involves a style of keyboard layout called quirts identical to the qwerty layout you may be familiar with but the z and y keys are switched we are thinking that the person who wrote this text was familiar with one of these formats but had to use the other and didn't know the precursor text well enough to catch the typo they had made or you know someone just messed up crouch spin to hype up the release of the jak and daxter trilogy remaster for the ps3 sony had released a video called the making of jak and daxter this video gives a peek into the development of the first game and shows off a lot of information that's hard if not impossible to find elsewhere on the internet such as high resolution images of concept art mock-ups for level layouts and about a minute into the video we can see an image that shows andy gavin's original concept for jack's moveset dated 1999. we can see that there was originally going to be a crouch spin move where you'd be able to pull off jack's spin attack while crawling or crouching which is something you definitely cannot do in the final game there is a more complete image of this move set which is dated 2000 but it's much harder to read from this image it would be fantastic to get a full look at this original concept there's bound to be at least a few more planned moves that were eventually cut so there we have it the jack and daxter iceberg i hope you enjoyed it as much as i did making it and i hope you
