The History Of Miraculous Ladybug | A Brief History

do any of you guys remember Code Lyoko that kind of weird Cartoon Network show that ran for a few years in the mid-2000s yeah I guess not well for those of you who don't know Code Lyoko was a French cartoon that followed the same basic structure every episode you got a group of kids going through everyday school life until eventually something evil goes down at that point the main characters all become these wicked CGI superheroes save the day and then everything is quite literally set back to normal and it was my jam seriously I loved this show as a kid so when I first heard about this new show turning heads called miraculous ladybug I'll admit I didn't really care that much but then when I watched it I got hit with these like weird pangs of nostalgia for some reason a French CGI action sitcom hybrid with new threats every week and a magic status quo reset at the end of every episode that felt pretty familiar to me but don't get me wrong a miraculous and Code Lyoko are very different shows made by different people but when watching miraculous I couldn't help but get that same feeling I did back when baby pho fee got way into Code Lyoko and of course that got me wondering where did this show come from well let's take a look this is a brief history okay so as I said today we're talking about the cartoon of miraculous tales of ladybug and cat noir a show about two teenagers named Marinette Dupin chang and adrian aggressed who live double lives as superheroes protecting the city of paris from an evil villain named hokhmah a name that sounds like your uncle choking on a turkey bone of thanksgiving dinner because he won't stop eating so dang fast just slow down václav and the story of miraculous begins as many cartoons do with an animator I'd be pretty confused at the story of a cartoon started with a baker his name was Thomas and no one's gonna be happy no matter how I pronounce this last name I strew canned the mid-2000s he was working as an animator for the show which where he met a woman who was wearing a ladybug shirt the two became fast friends and as artists do began to share drawings with each other and because she was wearing a ladybug shirt when they met a lot of their drawings were ladybug related which eventually led a stroke to create this sticky note doodle of his friend dressed up as a ladybug themed superhero and just like that inspiration struck I can't snap I'm I'm not very good at snapping a stroke really likes this ladybug superhero idea and wanted to develop it into a full-fledged comic book going so far as to create a series of fake comic book covers that helped build out the concept including one that introduced another superhero called cat noir even though in French it's apparently written as Chat Noir which I'm sorry that sounds like a dating site for 1920s detectives I'm 38 single and ready to mingle yeah but eventually everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked I mean when Jeremy zag stepped in I get those mixed up apparently this guy is among other things a TV producer and the co-founder of the Zagg entertainment company and when he caught wind of a strokes ladybug character design he was immediately on board but wanted to turn it into a cartoon instead which obviously a stroke was totally down for and with that miraculous ladybug officially started its journey to television miraculous ladybug was officially announced at a trade show in Kon in 2010 with the company's AG tuned and method animations set to produce the series these guys were later joined by anime legends to--we in June of 2012 and only a few months later the world would see its very first taste of miraculous thanks to this promotional video looks pretty different doesn't it yeah turns out the show was originally going to be 2d with a very strong anime art style but that's not the only difference despite looking like the same guy that is not Adrienne aggressed that is Felix aggressed a scrapped version of cat noir alter-ego who was dropped from the show for being too much of a cliched anime she boys differences aside this promo actually turned out to be a hit but obviously if this was not the ladybug cartoon we eventually got you see as much as people liked the art of the promo video it did bring up some concerns mainly that of marketability and the complications with animating ladybug spotted outfits but at the same time the makers of the show wanted to keep the cool cinematic style from the promo so to combat this the south korean company s AMG animation was brought in to help bring the show into the third dimension and while that is a massive change it did solve pretty much all the problems producers had with the show and from that point on ladybug was all CGI and a brand new trailer was released in October of 2013 to cement this new direction and build that hype and at this point the only thing left to do was premiere the show but as simple as that sounds it was a little more complicated than you might think yeah I'm gonna try and get through this as quickly as possible so let's just jag made that joke already you see despite being a French show miraculous ladybug actually first premiered in South Korea on September 1st 2015 it then later premiered in France in October of 2015 in the u.s. in December of 2015 and then in Canada the UK and Ireland in January of 2016 Plus in France the show was part of the tf1 Network in the u.s. it was on Nickelodeon and in many other regions it was part of the Disney Channel and that is probably the most complicated premiere schedule that I've ever covered in one of these videos the point is miraculous ladybug was out and the reaction from the cartoon viewing public was over well in the US alone ratings for the first season never once seemed to dip below 900,000 viewers in episode and the show quickly shot up to be one of the top cartoons on the air at that time plus the reviews for the show were pretty dang positive with main points of praise being the charming characters and stellar animation and personally I just gotta say that this show really does pull you in with its characters and animation like the action is great and we've come a long way since Jimmy Neutron in the animation Department but I'm pretty sure that the real thing that got people hooked were of course the romantic subplots or I guess lack thereof a cat noir likes ladybug and Marinette likes Adrienne but for some reason they can't recognize each other out of their superhero costumes even though it's just a mask they don't even change their hair their voices are the same how can they not tell how can they not tell the adventures of girl spider-man and Furi Furi was a rousing success within a year the show had developed a dedicated fanbase who were already clamoring for more and luckily for them they are getting a lot more in November of 2015 before season one had even ended Jeremy zag announced that a second and third season were already in the works that second season got started in October of 2017 not counting the 2016 Christmas special and only ended a few months ago in November of 2018 the series is currently in the first few episodes of its third season and still going strong the fans are still as dedicated as ever the show is only getting bigger and more interesting and there's even a handful of big miraculous projects in the works outside of the show in addition to a fourth and fifth season already being announced there's apparently talk of a musical film based on miraculous being produced with a set release date of 2021 and this isn't the first time talk of a miraculous movie has been thrown around jeromy's AG has tweeted a couple of times over the past few years about a live-action miraculous movie and a TV show being in the works and in September of 2018 it was announced that skydance media had acquired the rights to produce these live-action adaptations however it has been reported that the live-action movie was cancelled in favor of the animated musical film but from what I can tell the live-action TV series is still in the works but it's a little too early to know for sure if any of these projects will come to fruition plus the show is still the most important thing and that's not going anywhere I'll be honest going into this video I was very new to miraculous ladybug and at first I was pretty skeptical like when it comes to cartoons I haven't seen that much in the way of magical girl anime or superhero stuff as a whole so like miraculous was a bit of a gamble considering its influences but it really surprised me it's amazing to see how good cgi TV shows can look these days the action has a ton of fluid energy and even just the facial animations are full of expression especially on Marinette but it really was the characters and their relationships and interactions that sold me it's all pretty simple stuff but it's just done with such a wholesome charm that I couldn't help but get invested not even to mention its diverse cast ever expanding lore and relentlessly catchy theme song Plus like I said at the top of the episode it also gives me these random nostalgic vibes which I can only assume comes from all those childhood years spent watching Pokemon and again Code Lyoko but all this is just to say that miraculous is clearly a special show and not just to me and with so much more of the show still to come over the next several years I and millions of other people across the world that cannot wait to see what's next for miraculous ladybug thanks for watching guys
