I really dont understand the point of having such competitive education system...

...when people arent allowed to develop critical thinking in economics, social issues and politics. And maybe even worse, when they can't even get decent paid jobs.

A lot of potential is being wasted here.

Truth is, the Chinese Communist isn't interested in developing China and the Chinese people. But it will do whatever it can to stay in power by turning people into sheeples from a very early age.

Edit: on second thoughts, maybe that explains people wanting to lie flat like potatoes.

996 is both real and fake at the same time. It's real because it's expected that you're spending hours at work. It's fake in that you're not really focused or working to any efficiency. I mean unless it's FOXconn and there's an ex soldier behind you... If China really wants to rub real success in people's faces, it will only do so when they have better working conditions than the west. That is the true test of success as a nation. But China's interpretation of success is GDP output at all costs.

Also though, just to vent on uppity foreigners for a second. I've spoken to so many foreign managers that shit on Chinese workers for their low efficiency while at the same time complaining about how Chinese want more than 2,000RMB a month that it drives me nuts. If you want high efficiency, you pay for it. If you want cheap labour, you pay for it in low efficiency. Make a choice. Sometimes it's cheaper to make things outside of China. If that's what you want, do that. Don't sit in China and shit on people you pay nothing to and complain about the output.

The subreddit is r/China, the user is u/constructional_HK, and the label is Taiwan. And the "funny" part is, while 996 is mostly related to Chinese Tech companies, all these three entities of Chinese World are exceptionally susceptible to insane and borderline slavery working culture.

P.S. Singapore, don't think you can hide in the shadow, you're in this club too.

China is a forced and accepted slave labor economy.

The culture of 996 in the IT field originated from Huawei and Alibaba. Because these two companies made a lot of money, they would rather spend twice the salary and hope that employees can work overtime as much as possible to complete their work. Recruiting more people was difficult in the early years because there were very few engineers with expertise in the IT field in the early years of China. Then in order to compete with big companies, small companies can only work overtime together, but they don't make much money, so they can't pay the extra large amount of overtime like large companies, which ultimately leads to the overtime culture of all companies.
