This was fascinating, I didn't discover Tati until she was well established. I totally agree with Hannah's comments and feel dumb for not realizing that such a big Youtuber must have had a team working with her.
This whole video was a throwback. I guess it wasn’t too long ago but I forgot about the Blendiful and the Kiki Chanel feud.
I really like Hannah, and this series is super interesting! I (and many others) went through the flip in opinion of Tati that she mentions and it was honestly making me sad that I can’t enjoy watching Tati like I used to.
I missed so much of early beauty YouTube so I really enjoy theses types of videos!
Hannah's takes are interesting but it doesn't seem like she goes very deep into her research. In normal videos I can understand why she just does surface level for pacing reasons but she kept bringing up Tati not working with other brands, turning down affiliate codes and being scandal free, which wasn't really the case. Tati was always just easily forgiven and able to separate herself from the drama by not talking about it and continuing to pump out videos.
Tati was involved in the affiliate link scandal where mutiple large beauty youtubers, including Tati, were exposed for not disclosing affiliate links while recommending products. Once people became aware of how much money can be made by affiliate links she experienced backlash. I remember Tati being pissed about it and going off about how she doesn't make that much money from it and then just added a disclosure downplaying it in the info of her videos.
I have a feeling Tati is only going to eventually return (to social media/YouTube, that is) to announce that she and James are expecting a baby. She'll then shift to more motherhood/lifestyle content and she'll distance herself even further from the beauty community.
I really enjoy all the thoughtful commentary videos Hannah does. I think they're often very thought provoking and just enjoyable to watch.
I love this series anyway, and this was a great addition. The parallels she drew between Tati and Jaclyn Hill were super eye opening. I also liked the revisiting of the situation with Kiki Chanel. I remember when that situation happened and I felt so bad for Tati being "attacked" that to this day I've never watched any of Kiki's videos besides that one because I thought I didn't like her. I'd be interested in watching one now and seeing her through a different lens.
Seeing the old background the one pre posh battle room really hit me in the feels in a way I didn’t expect. Tati was the first bg I subscribed to in 2014-2015 and watched religiously and I agree with what Hannah said there was something about Tati moving into that beauty room that sparked a marked change in her and the beginning of the end.
