- [Kailyn] I'm Kailyn. I'm a high school senior
from Nazareth, Pennsylvania. - Wow, you look like a princess. - I am a princess, Kendra. When I was six months old, my dad left, and I haven't seen him since. My mom's always struggled
to hold down a steady job, boyfriend, and home. She's currently living in a
hotel with her new boyfriend, which doesn't leave much room for me. - [Mom] Hi, honey. - [Kailyn] Did you find
any apartments yet? - Well, I'm not gonna jump
into purchasing a house now. I mean, that's a huge investment. - [Kailyn] If I had to rely
on my mom, I'd be lost. Thankfully, I met my boyfriend Jo. - You know I love you, right? - Yeah, I know. We've been dating for nine months. And since I had nowhere else to live, his family invited me
to move in with them. Are you gonna cut it? Since my mom's rarely around, Jo's mother Janet is
like a second mom to me. - [Janet] Good job, go
ahead and keep cutting it. - Ever since Jo and I
started sharing a bedroom, we've been really cramped and
it's caused a lot of tension. If you don't get out of
the bathroom, I'm leaving. And things are about to
get even more crowded, because I'm pregnant. Times are changing. I'm scheduled to be done with high school before I give birth. So I'm going to tour our
community college today. Jo was going to come with me, but he just got called into work. So I'm hoping my mom can come instead. Hi, Mom. - [Mom] Hi. - I know it's just kind of short notice, but I have a tour set up at
NCC today to tour the campus. I didn't know if you
would want to go with me, so I don't go by myself. - [Mom] Um, I can't right now. I'm in the middle of a major application here on the computer. It's like 75 questions. - The whole thing is I just
don't want to go by myself. I don't even know what
questions to ask and stuff. - [Mom] I'm gonna run outta time. I'd have to go back and
restart the whole thing again. I just don't wanna have to do that. - All right, well, I mean, good
luck, I guess, I don't know. - [Mom] Okay, I'm sorry. - Okay, bye. - [Jo] It's gonna be fine. - I wanted my mom to go
with me, but she can't. - I'm sorry. - Should I ask about the
financial aid and stuff or no? - Just anything you wanna know, just ask. - I don't wanna ask. I'm embarrassed.
- Well, don't be embarrassed. Don't be embarrassed. You have to take anything
you can get right now. I love you. Give me a kiss. - Trying to get into
college is scary enough. Figuring it out on my own is even scarier. - So this is our dental hygiene clinic. You'll spend a lot of time in here. The dental hygiene graduates have been our highest paid graduates. And last year, they started
about 55,000 a year to start right out of the program.
- That's so great. - Well, I hope you're in here someday. - Yeah, I hope so too. Are there other students that have babies? - Actually, I have a two-year-old son, and I've found that the college
has worked with me so much. Is your family supportive? - For the most part. My boyfriend's family is more supportive. - My parents haven't even
met their grandchild. They've not been in my life.
They kicked me out when I- - But you're doing really
well though, right? - Yeah. Personally, I do not
regret it for one second. My son is my world. - [Kailyn] I'm gonna cry. - He seriously gave me my strength, because if I didn't have him,
I wouldn't have anything. - [Suzi] Breathe, Mama. (gentle music) Relax the legs. Don't tense up. (breathing heavily) Don't breathe so fast. Take it easy. - [Kailyn] Mom, you have to
be quiet. I have contractions. - Okay. - Over here.
- You okay? You okay, Jojo? You're shaking just as bad as she is. Just keep breathing. Stay strong. Baby's coming. Pretty soon, you're going to
have a bundle of joy to hold. - [Suzi] That's right. (Suzi imitating baby crying) - [Kailyn] Shut up.
(mothers laughing) God. (Kailyn grunting)
- No, no, keep breathing. - [Doctor] If you want an
epidural, now is your chance. - [Kailyn] I want it right now. - [Doctor] Would you like
to have an epidural now? Okay, go ahead and sign this consent form, and we will get started and put some numbing medicine in.
- I'm having a contraction. Mom, sign my name on that paper. - [Suzi] You wanna push? - Sign my name on
epidural paper right now. - Kailyn, you have to sign for it. So just do it as quick as you can. (tense music) (machinery beeping) - [Nurse] Keep breathing. (Kailyn groaning)
No, don't push. No pushing. Doctor's gonna lay you down. - I'm having another contraction. Oh my god. - Okay, honey, keep breathing.
- Keep breathing. - Can't they just suck it out real quick? (all laughing) - Hi, Kailyn, are you feeling better? - I just feel pressure,
like I'm in denial. I don't think I'm going
to have a baby after this. - [Suzi] She's in a lot of pain. - [Janet] Suzi? She's
feeling like she has to push. - Oh, she's feeling like she's gotta push. I gotta go fast. Bye. - [Nurse] Five, six, seven,
eight, nine, 10, good. - Keep breathing. Good. Big push. - You're doing fabulous, honey. - Hold my foot, Jo! - [Doctor] One more, right on
top of it. Go ahead, Kailyn. - [Nurse] Go ahead, keep pushing. Push it so hard.
- You can do it, baby. - [Nurse] Push, push, push. (Kailyn screams) - [Suzi] You're doing it, honey. - Ow! - [Suzi] It's all right, it's okay. (Kailyn screams) - [Suzi] Oh! (all weeping) - [Doctor] You ready? - [Jo] It's a boy! - It's a boy!
- It's a boy! - [Suzi] You did it, honey. - Congratulations.
- Good job. (baby crying) - [Kailyn] Oh my god. - [Janet] Oh, he's so cute. - I know. - [Nurse] Now we have to cut the cord. - Oh, baby. - [Nurse] All right. - [Kailyn] Isaac, want some bacon? We haven't officially
gotten back together, 'cause we're still on shaky ground. Don't eat all of it. - I made enough for
everybody to have five. Why do you get to have more than me? I don't know what else to do for you. - But right now, I have to
put our relationship aside, because it's my first day of school. You ready to go? Oh, I'm going to miss you all
day. I just wanna squeeze you. - So welcome. This is
English I, Freshman Comp. If it's your first class or if it's your first college
class, especially welcome. You should be on time to class. - [Kailyn] It's intimidating
to be back in school, but I know it's the best
thing for me and Isaac. - Hi. - [Kailyn] Hi. - It's a beautiful day, isn't it? - Yeah. - You don't deserve to be
outside enjoying the sun. - What? - You should be in a cave. (sighs) - So what did you want to talk about? - I wanna know what's going on. I'm trying to get the facts straight. - I'm gonna tell you the truth, and that's where we're gonna leave it. I've been dating someone else. That's pretty much it. - That's it? Okay. You'll never be welcome
in my house anymore. I don't even want to catch
you on my (beep) block. - Well, you don't have a

- Yes, you have. - 11, 12? Yes. - I have to be the one
getting up with him, because you want to be out
with your (beep) boyfriend. That's not you choosing?
- Yeah, that doesn't happen. - That's not you choosing
your boyfriend over your son? - What are you doing with your
life? You don't go to school. You dropped out. $7 an hour? - You haven't even made
it as far as I have. So, who the (beep) are you to talk (beep)? - I'm going to school at a school. - If you even make it
through school, Kail. - (beep) you. No, just leave, just leave. You're pissing me off.
- You been in school for a week or two.
- Just (beep) leave. Bye.
- So, when you pass this semester and next.
- Leave, leave, leave. - Then you can (beep) talk to me, you stupid whore.
- Leave. Bye. (gentle music) Hey guys. - Hey.
- 'Sup, Kail? - Are you ready to help me move? - Yeah, your boys gonna
help him move, son. - We gotta do this quick, okay? - [Kailyn] Yeah, we only
have two hours to do this. - [Gigi] It's furniture. It's everything. It should have been boxed, Kail. - I don't have boxes. I
don't know what to do. I never did this before. I'll take the TV off. - [Jordan] Take down that whole. - Just wrap it.
- Oh yeah, wrap it in this. That's the only thing she's
gonna care about that I took. - The TV?
- TV? - [Kailyn] The TV. - You need to help me with the baby room, 'cause that is just filled.
- I know, that's what I'm doing right now.
- With his little things. She's got a lot of stuff. - [Kailyn] Diapers, diapers, diapers. - [Gigi] What's all this?
This all going with him? - [Kailyn] Yeah. - Why you such in a hurry? - Because my mom's gonna be home, and she doesn't know I'm
moving out, so I'd rather- - [Mark] What time is she gettin' home? - I don't know. Her boyfriend gets home at
like four, three or four. - What time it is? - So when she gets here,
you're not gonna be here? - [Kailyn] When I get everything
out and into my new house, I'm gonna call her and
be like, I moved out. - Did you talk to her
about you moving out? - [Kailyn] No. - Don't you think she's
going to be worried? - She's gonna be pissed, maybe. - [Mark] Maybe? - [Kailyn] So how was he this weekend? - He's good. He's always good. How was your weekend? Have fun? - Well, me and Jordan
decided to end things. - Whoa. Why, what happened? - Some of the things that
you said kind of helped me to understand I really
shouldn't be with him, because I wasn't really happy. I kinda just put on like
this mask, like I was. (Isaac fussing) - So how'd he take it?
Was he mad or depressed? Nothing? No? - [Kailyn] He saw it the same way I did. - It should be good. You will find someone who's
perfect for you one day, and you will be their little queen. - That's what you used to call me. - Just stop. What are you gonna start dating, or again? - I don't know, when the time comes. I'm not gonna go looking for somebody. - Well, I'm not single anymore. - [Kailyn] Who are you dating? - Vee. - I knew you were kind of with her, but I didn't know how serious it was. - Well, it's getting more serious. - Oh, all right. - Do you wanna meet her? - No, absolutely not. - Okay, you're not happy for me? - I'm happy that you're happy, yes, but- - Don't bull (beep) me now. - It's hard for me thinking
about him having a stepmom or someone else stepping
in as a mother role. I'm not real comfortable
about it right now. I'm just thinking that
it is also hard for me to picture you with
somebody else right now and be happy when Jordan
and I just broke up. So it doesn't really
make me feel too good. - So are you saying you were like- - I'm just saying that-
- You're looking forward to having, to trying again or something? - Well, sometimes it crosses
my mind about being with you, and whether we're gonna
end up together or not. - We've come so far from that. I don't know. - I know, well, it's sad,
because Isaac will never see what having his parents together is like. - So we're not together for no reason. There was a good reason for it. Maybe it's good that
he's not around all that. - Did you poop? - Yeah. - Oh. You're at Daddy's house,
so Daddy gets to change you. (Joe muttering) Despite our differences, I'm
glad Jo and I can get along. Work is going well, and tonight
I'm going bowling with Gigi and some of her friends. (people chattering) - [Gigi] Hey. - Hey. - All right, guys, this is Kail. These are my friends Kyle,
Javi, Sal, and Lydia. - Hi, Kail.
- Hi. - We can ask them if
they'll open another lane. Do you wanna do that or no? - Yeah, we're going to do teams. It's gonna be Sal and Gigi,
Kyle and Lydia, and me and you. - Me and who? - [Javi] Oh! It's all right, I'll just
get a strike every time. - It's all right, yeah.
- It's all right. - No big deal.
- No big deal. (upbeat music) - What? - [Spectator] Oh yeah! - [Javi] If she gets a spare. There it is. (Javi clapping) Good hit. Nice. - I have one left.
- Good job. Buff! (girls laughing) - I have one left.
- Good job. - I don't really think he
knows the difference between... I think he knows that he
goes to separate houses on separate days, but I don't
really think he understands the concept of missing one
parent or the other yet. - I don't think he does either. He's like, as long as he is
with one of us, he's happy. - Oh my god. Ow! - I'm sure he gets treated
differently in both places, at least like- - Well, you have more family at your house like your mom, your dad,
your sister, your brother. - Yeah. - Well, and that's what I'm scared of, because you have all your
family and everything. And I don't want him to like you better and want to be with you more. - No, I don't want that either. I want him to see that he
shouldn't like my family better, because my family is your family, and we're all the same
family, and that's it. - I think that we need to
get along for now, and then- - We are, which is good. - [Kailyn] But it needs to stay that way. - And I think it will. (gentle music) - [Javi] So how are you? - [Kailyn] I'm good. - Yeah? It's good to see you. - Did you have fun the other night? - Yeah, I had a blast. - [Kailyn] Oh good. - Yeah, I haven't bowled in so long. Definitely gotta do it
again, but not bowling. We could do something more exciting. So how's school? What are you studying? - [Kailyn] Marketing. - Wow, nice. That's good. - What are you going to school for? - Criminal justice. - [Kailyn] Oh good. - Ultimately, I wanna be
a cop when I get older. - How much longer do you have to go for? - Oh, a long time. (both laughing) - [Kailyn] Good plan. - So are you seeing anyone now? - No, I was with someone
for a year and a half, and then, things just didn't work out. - Nice. So I have a chance then? - Hey, maybe. So what about you? Are you seeing anybody? - No, I'm not saying anybody.
I haven't for a while now. - So I have a chance then? (Kailyn laughs) - Maybe. - So you're aware that
I have a child, right? - Yeah, I mean, I don't
have a problem with it. - It's not really easy dating
someone that has a kid, so I just want to prepare you for it. - I think I can handle it. I think I'm good around kids. - I'll be the judge of that. - So, where's Isaac's
father at in your life? - We're just civil friends. - Gotcha, so I wouldn't have
anything to worry about? - No, I mean, we've had our differences. We've had our ups and downs, but I think we're at a
good place right now. And I don't see that
changing anytime soon. - So we can definitely hang out some more? - We'll see. - If I'm lucky? - If you're lucky. - All right. (gentle music) (people chattering) Hey.

with him and he likes you, we can keep hanging out. But I just want to let you know, I'm not looking to jump into
a relationship anytime soon. I just don't want to introduce
Isaac to more boyfriends. - [Isaac] Mom, mom, momma. - I hope that's something
you can understand. - Yeah, of course. That's your little baby. Of course I do. - Well, he's like my best friend, so... - You're gonna be mine, so... (Kailyn laughs) Since you're gonna be my best friend, he'll be my best friend, too. Who's that? Look, it's Mom. (upbeat surf rock music) - Mommy, I got flowers for you. - You did get flowers.
They got them for Mommy? - [Isaac] Yeah. - You did? - [Isaac] Yeah. - Oh my gosh, thank you
so much. Give me a kiss. Thank you. - Well, the real reason
why I brought you out here was 'cause this was your childhood. You were raised here, and
I felt like this was a part of your life I wasn't a part of, so I figured, if I came out here, I felt like some way, I'll
be a part of it forever, 'cause you are my present now. And so, what I really
wanna know is if you'll... - [Kailyn] Oh my god. (uplifting music) - If you'll marry me. - Of course. I don't know what to say. I
don't know how this works. - Are you happy? - Yeah, I'm happy. I'm just in shock. Isaac, look. Look what I got. Is it pretty? - Yes. - And Isaac helped you through all this? - [Javi] He helped me through all of it. We celebrate now. Come on. - [Kailyn] Hold my hand. Thanks, Mickey.

name so he can write to you. Yeah? And then we'll both be
there waiting for you when you graduate bootcamp. The days are gonna fly by. And then, after that, we

married at the courthouse, we're planning a big wedding
