The Dish Doer | What's Your Problem?

Today I'm making a machine that'll do the dishes. I need a machine to do the dishes for me to get back to what I love most doing. I'm inspired by the cartoonist Rube Goldberg. He lived a 100 years ago and drew these contraptions. I love the automatic dishwasher. It sets off a fire which triggers a fire sprinkler spraying water on the dishes. And then a fan dries them. We'll try to do the same. Ready? I don't want to get detergent on me. 3, 2, 1... Did it work? What happened? It's all over the wall. And the speaker. No, it's all over the speaker! Oh God. 3, 2, 1... It went all over me. It did get some on me. That's just kind of align. What could we do to get it all over them? Maybe with a pendulum weight that swings. If we swing it on, like an angle it'll go on a squiggly pattern. Okay. - You know what I mean? - That's perfect! Okay. 3, 2, 1... Ew, got it on me! Sorry. Look at that. I think every single dish has detergent on it. - Yeah. We'll wash the dishes with this fire sprinkler. And I'm checking if the water can sprinkle out when I hold a candle under it. The heat from the candle should make the vial burst and the water come out. In theory... - There it is. - It works. I don't like the way the glass flew everywhere. It seems pretty dangerous. John is melting a wax crayon to swap the glass sprinkler for a wax one. And goes the water. What is coming in? Perfect! So Brett made this. It will dry the dishes? When the weight drops it'll dry by moving back and forth. - Okay. - Ready? Wait, let me wet the dishes. 3, 2, 1... - That's terrifying. - Yeah I know. The dishes are still very wet. We'll find another way. The dishcloth sucks. We'll do something that blows. Brett attached the leaf blower to the inside of a bass drum and the airflow should make the wheel roll. Let's see if it works. Wow! That's so cool. Wow it still keeps going. Wow. It's going to hit that thing. I'm wetting the dishes so we see if the leaf blower dries them. Yeah. 3, 2, 1... Cowabunga.
