[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] destiny's child is one of the most popular successful and best-selling girl groups of all time with over 60 million records sold worldwide the group rose to fame in the late 1990s early 2000s with their hit songs no no no say my name bugaboo bill's bill's bills independent women and survivor [Music] they started out as childhood friends and worked hard every single day for years with dreams of one day becoming famous singers and their dreams finally came true in 1998 when they landed a record deal and released their first album while the story of destiny's child is full of triumph it's also full of conflict and friction in the year 2000 the sisterhood came to a crashing halt when three members of destiny's child left the group under messy circumstances there were lawsuits allegations of fraud and favoritism and many nasty interviews full of finger pointing say my name say my name what name every time i learn the name you kick the move down the group it was things that we were noticing it was conflicts that were going on yeah the departure was like this we always tried to work out our different differences and community between each other and we always tried to communicate but we were having problems um for a while now beyonce you sound like you sound really like kind of hostile about this i mean has this been this this whole the rumors and stuff that this really irritates you yeah and this is really old we're kind of off of that now it's clear that the group is beyonce and the girls so why don't you just go solo no disrespect to the other girls but we see how things are shaping up you guys are on tv the camera stays on you you get the hottest dior they get the leftovers and you know that's a compliment to you why don't you just go solo well i don't think that the group is beyonce and the girls all of the bad seeds are now out of destiny's child we've had changes in the group and we've finally found the recipe that is perfect jesse's child has had a number of wine up changes over the last year right um do you think that there's favoritism in that band toward beyonce knowles destiny's child's highly publicized feuds made them a laugh in stock and reputations were damaged we always talk about what happened in the group but what about the lives of latabia roberson latoya luckett and farrah franklin after leaving let's get into the drama the origins of destiny's child date back to 1989 in houston texas when beyonce knowles and latavia roberson decided they wanted to be singers beyonce had been participating in talent shows and competitions with the help of her parents who realized that their daughter was destined for super stardom and decided to pour into her latavia was assigned a child model who regularly appeared in ads and commercials for just for me kitty box perms something just for me [Music] now my conditioning relaxer we're calming and styling this worry [Music] system today created in part by mothers especially for their daughters by prolonged in 1990 a group of talent managers held an open audition for a child girl group and that's where beyonce and latavia met both girls were chosen for the group and became best friends in no time uh [Music] at school latavia met calendria roland who ended up landing a spot in the girl group two years later kelly eventually met beyonce during one of the group's rehearsals they were managed by brian k moore and andretta tillman andretta was one of the co-founders who invested in the girls and she was the driving force that led them to their success kelly eventually moved into the knoll's household since her single mother was a full-time nanny and couldn't fully be present for kelly's career when kelly moved in with beyonce's family the main focus was improving her talent the group originally named girls time eventually cut down from a dozen girls to six members including tamar davis and sisters nikki and nina taylor they were a very popular act around houston and performed at a lot of local events but the main focus was strengthening beyonce's skills because producers and coaches felt like she was the strongest talent in the group and had the most potential she usually sang lead while the other girls harmonized and did backup vocals the girls became contestants on the american talent show series star search in pursuit of a record deal [Music] unfortunately they made it all the way to the finals and lost to an adult rock band matthew knowles became even more determined to make his daughter's dreams come true he attempted to co-manage the girls but when the manager andretta declined his proposal he threatened to take away beyonce the obvious star of the group and this is according to her brother lornanda brown matthew's wish was finally granted he quit his corporate job to co-manage the group while his wife and beyonce's mom tina became their stylist and vocal coach he wasted no time crafting a superstar group he hired vocal coaches to help with their harmonies invested in dance lessons and put the girls through boot camp at his house where they practice every day every summer he also taught them how to present themselves and do interviews what are we singing about what is this song about beyonce eventually met latoya luckett at school and asked her to audition for her father latoya joined the group and they eventually cut down to four members which now consisted of latavia kelly beyonce and latoya the girls went through many names like something fresh cliche the dolls and destiny before becoming destiny's child matthew was mailing out dozens of packages full of tapes demos and photos to record labels the girls started opening for major r b acts like drew hills and swv before finally landing a recording contract with the lecture of records in 1995 they moved to atlanta georgia to begin recording their debut album but the girls would be dropped from the label just months later destiny's child's original manager and co-founder andretta tillman devastatingly died of lupus in 1997. so matthew took over as manager and oversaw all of their business affairs matthew quickly jumped into action and negotiated a deal with columbia records the girls flew to oakland to record music with dwayne wiggins of the 90s seoul and r b group tony tony tony and their track killing time ended up being included in the soundtrack to the 1997 film men in black i'll be sitting [Music] their debut single no no no and its remix featuring wyclef was a huge commercial success peeking at number three on the hot 100. [Music] but the hit song failed to generate enough buzz for their self-titled debut album and it only reached number 67 with disappointing sales but they still managed to win three soul trained lady of soul awards and appeared on the soundtrack album of the romantic drama why do fools fall in love [Music] but the original destiny's child members had no idea that their impending breakthrough would lead to a divorce the girls got to work on their second album the writings on the wall this time around they worked with hit makers like rodney dark child jerkins chris stokes candy burris and missy elliott according to latavia and latoya the tension started during the recording of the group's second album they alleged that matthew was positioning his daughter beyonce to be the main singer which would lead to a solo career and also accused him of not paying them equally the two girls say mr knowles showed favoritism towards kelly and beyonce and refused to share financial information with them in their appearance beyonce and kelly were able to afford cars and they weren't so they had questions in 1998 latoya and her mother pamela luckett filed a suit in harris county against matthew after he allegedly refused to provide them with an audit of the group's finances pamela also complained that he had police forcibly remove her from a tour bus in baton rouge louisiana when she had come to the aid of her asthmatic daughter matthew said it was because pam wasn't covered by the insurance company to ride in the bus so he had to remove her but through the behind the scenes drama the girls released two hits the lead single bill's bill's bills of the sophomore album was a huge billboard chart topper and the second single bugaboo was also a hit and these two songs turned them into one of the world's biggest groups the album the writings on the wall was released on july 27th 1999 debuting in the top 10 with over 132 thousand copies sold in its first week but the problems persisted both latoya and latavia demanded new management for the whole group or their own separate manager they also sought legal advice from lawyers who informed them that upon turning 18 they were no longer legally bound to contracts signed as minors in december that year the girls wrote to matthew to say they intended to terminate their contract with him as their manager but had no intention of leaving the group however matthew allegedly did not respond to the letter beyonce responded with her own letter to the girls published by vibe magazine that read i have shared some of the best moments in my life with the two of you by my side i have also shared some of the worst i never complained when you didn't sing one note on numerous songs on the album i've never complained that when i was working my butt off in the studio as i did on the last album that the two of you were both either sleeping or on your phones approximately 80 percent of the time i never complained that the two of you were lip-syncing to my vocals on some of the videos and on stage in fact i only helped make our contributions appear to be equal to the public approximately every three weeks or less there is drama caused by one or both of you it has been this way for at least the past two years and i don't deserve this end quote kelly also responded with her own letter and tina backed both claims by the girls saying that there was drama from the time latoya joined the group and that both girls had made everyone miserable when the music video for their number one hit song say my name premiered on february 15 2000 latoya and latavia found out they were dismissed from destiny's child and replaced by farah franklin and michelle williams [Music] you can't even tell that they're new they're just as good you can't tell my opinion is they should have kept the original group when they got the new girls i was like whoa they fit in in the video the new members lip synced along to the track the girls say that matthew just completely stopped telling them about upcoming performances and obligations and then informed colombia's parent company sony music that they were failing to perform under their recording contract despite knowing full well they were the cause of any such failure which also got them dropped from the label on march 21st 2000 latavia and latoya filed a lawsuit against beyonce kelly sony music the group's manager and executive producer matthew knowles for breach of contract defamation libel and fraud alleging he stole their money the suit also alleged that mr knowles attempted to gain legal guardianship of them however matthew's side of the story was completely different he revealed details about a tour that the group took with the boy group jagged edge and singer john b he was managing all three acts at the time according to matthew while both latoya and latavia were dating the casey twins brian and brandon of jagged edge the other two members couldn't contain their attraction towards beyonce and kelly and started harassing them the girls had also previously appeared in their music video for their song i gotta be matthew made the decision to remove the guys from the tour bus to protect the girls as they were still miners and the jacket edge guys were adults but jacket edge says they were actually put off the bus after defending latoya's mother pam during the other tour bus incident problem well that started really from a poor decision that i made in putting on that tour we just talked about with john b on putting both destiny's child and jagged edge on the same tour bus now remember the girls are minors they're minors they're 16 16 years old the guys are 21 22 years old i have a fiduciary duty with minors by the law there's a certain way i have to manage that i got a call from kelly and beyonce and i talked about this in the book in detail uh saying that they were constantly being harassed by two other members of of jacket edge and i couldn't have that and i literally had to put the guys off the bus in baton rouge louisiana that began all of this drama and yes i got a an attorney called me out of the blue to tell me that i would be getting a certified letter and he had just faxed me the letter uh to tell me that at this point he was now on an interim basis managing latavia and latoya and that they would finally go and search for a final manager but for now he was in the intern the manager and i told him then i said well sir how much do you know about this group months later farrah franklin dropped out of destiny's child after missing appearances and performances and they continued to perform as a trio without her there were many fingers being pointed and mud slinging in the media that year by all parties beyonce and kelly are quoted in vibe magazine interview taking shots at latoya and latavia's talent saying latoya was like tone deaf she wasn't even originally a singer she was a rapper latavia was originally brought in the group as a dancer she was my best friend and i wanted her to be in the group beyonce and kelly say they were all like sisters until two years into stardom when boys started getting into latoya and latavia's heads and they lost focus they say they didn't want to do interviews or rehearse it was very obvious to destiny's child's fans that it was latavia and latoya versus beyonce and kelly but the girls just pretended that they were getting along in public to avoid disappointing the fans i hold no grudges one day i pray that we can be friends again but i'm just happy that we found these new members and we're still able to it wasn't something that happened suddenly like at the spur of the moment it was something that had been going on it was things that we were noticing it was conflicts that were going on yeah the departure was like this we always tried to work out our different differences and community between each other and we always tried to communicate but we were having problems um for a while now it's just a real real weird feeling to actually be with somebody since you were nine to ten and then be separated so suddenly that's i mean like the drop of a hat they were very very aware of everything before it was done um there have been they have been comments on the radio that i can't get into illegally but there have been comments on the radio saying stating that they knew exactly what was going on i called them personally and said that i would be a bigger woman and call them and confront them about everything they seem to feel that they could continue on as part of the group and yet on under their own management was that even conceivable as far as you can ludacris there's only one word for that you have to have cohesions columbia records is not gonna deal with two managers that's not gonna happen that's not real world there was not a dispute with beyonce and kelly we didn't have any argument latoya and i we never quit the group never quit we never quit never left never even said anything about quitting we simply wanted to disaffirm our personal management agreement with our manager and because of it this happened right they still insist to us that they've got love for you guys they do not have hard feelings for you their issue is with management and not with the two of you well they slapped a nice lawsuit on us yeah so that's a lot of love that's a that's a hard love isn't it latoya and latavia later dropped their two former groupmates from their suit and all parties eventually reached a settlement the terms of the settlement were not publicly disclosed but a lawyer for the pier says the case was settled amicably and his clients felt vindicated in the midst of all this turmoil it seems like everything destiny's child had worked hard for was actually starting to pay off their second album the writings on the wall had been on the national top 20 for months with 2.5 million copies sold and three number one singles while the fourth single jump and jumping also became a top 10 hit making them the most successful female pop and r b vocal group since tlc destiny's child earned six grammy nominations at the 2001 ceremony for best r b performance twice best r b song twice record of the year and song of the year with say my name winning two grammy awards for best r b performance and best r b song however the former members did not join them to accept the trophies despite being in attendance for the ceremony destiny's child the trio released their first single together in october 2000 titled independent women part 1 the theme song for the soundtrack to the 2000 film charlie's angels it tops billboard hot 100 for 11 consecutive weeks [Music] in march the following year they followed it up with the lead single of their third album titled survivor another hit record their single bootylicious was another number one hit their first album as a trial titled survivor debuted at number one on the u.s billboard 200 with first week sales of nearly 700 000 copies the highest first week sales figures of any female group in the sound scan era and it remained in the top 10 for 13 consecutive weeks unfortunately for them their highly publicized drama was just as big as their music and at times their beef overshadowed their success the media just couldn't stop buzzing about it [Music] the two members that aren't with us tonight these are the three members what do you mean next question please and as you can see this girl here has a sticker on her face her name is chalaqua and we had to get rid of her because she had these girls hold a real special place in our heart cause they are the first three members that we kicked out we got a little bit of destiny's child here tonight that's right got the new hit song say my name say my name what name every time i learn the name you kick them down the group i see your name how about temporary or something this i thought was important go ahead following the split kelly and beyonce recruited two new members michelle who is still with the group and farah franklin whose time was short she cracked under the grueling schedule and committed the cardinals missing appointments yeah okay jessie's child has had a number of lineup changes over the last year right um do you think that there's favoritism in that band toward beyonce knowles obviously there is because she is you know she's producing the songs she's writing the song she's singing me and many of the songs completely parallel to what happened to the supreme five months after joining destiny's child pharaoh was booted from the group for allegedly missing promotional appearances destiny's child were now a trio hey i heard you guys are short one member um y'all looking for a fourth member no we don't want no more chaos i really can't talk too much about destiny's child because of the present time my lawyers are in negotiation i'm going to join the group ferris sudden departure has shaken up fans and the media but the controversy hasn't hurt record sales it's just kind of like that with the supremes they get new members and then they all once would just disappear into the either beyonce and kelly would be slapped with another case by latoya and latavia this time a federal lawsuit over the lyrical content from the song survivor [Music] the former members claimed that the song was a violation of the previous settlement with beyonce knowles and kelly rowland which prevented either party from making any disparaging public comments they also requested a restraining order and an injunction to prevent further comment that would violate the agreement and any further performance of that song however they failed to persuade a court to stop the group from performing the song live beyonce who co-wrote the track said the song was not directed at the group's former members but instead to all the people who believed destiny's child would fail she said i've had people from school who said we weren't going to make it we had a label that dropped us for me i have no problems with anybody i was 17 when they left it was so long ago it's silly a lawyer for destiny's child called the lawsuit ridiculous saying it was unfortunate the plaintiffs had nothing better to do a settlement was reached amicably and the smoke between destiny's child had been settled for now while dc3 was becoming one of the biggest female groups in the world both latavia and latoya relocated to atlanta georgia to continue to pursue musical careers meanwhile farrah franklin was airing out her grievances in the media about her short-lived time in the group prior to joining destiny's child she made her acting debut in the 1999 feature film trippin farah never actually intended to be in the group she was just a hired extra for the bill's bills bills music video when matthew knowles invited her on board hello everyone my name is michelle williams i'm 19 years old from illinois what's up everybody i'm farrah i'm from la and i'm also 19. okay now i got to ask the question just to get out the way now what what happened basically to make a long story short the group was together a long time my father was the person that started the group and two of the ladies decided that they wanted to fire my father as a manager without ever discussing it with us we got a letter one day and we were performing the day before together so it was devastating to kelly and i three days later we get a call from their attorney saying that not only do they want their own manager they want all the money that they've paid my father back and all and of course they're on they didn't want to pay the 20 or whatever so which means kelly and i would have to double up on expenses so basically um we felt like either we had to find two new members or the group would self-destruct so we were very blessed that god sent us fair and michelle and we're very blessed that the fans are still supporting us because we've sold over 3 million records since the ladies have joined the group and now we're up to 5 million so we're just overwhelmed and gracious because that was going to happen everything has just been gelling together it's also taken a lot of them to teach us what they've been doing for 10 years in a month pharaoh was a singer in a short-lived girl group named jane doe and is also the cousin of the late natina reid of the girl group black pharah contributed vocals to remixes of the group's original songs as well as some songs on their survivor album released after her departure like their song independent women after a few live performances promotional appearances and an appearance in the jump and jump in music video pharah's time in the biggest girl group came to an abrupt end according to pharah she found out she was fired from the group when beyonce announced it on mtv claiming that she showed disinterest in being in the group and intentionally missed three separate promotional tours beyonce said we're sorry that pharaoh won't be with us for the long run but we wish her the best in the future it wasn't a management decision it was a group decision all of the bad seeds are now out of destiny's child we've had changes in the group and we've finally found the recipe that is perfect to say that one of our members couldn't make it today but because we love you so much we still have to come and give you a wonderful show phone the three remaining members of destiny's child beyonce kelly michelle we have to say that sarah was not kicked out of destiny's style she actually didn't show up for three major promotional events so we all agreed that fair being a member of destiny's child is definitely one of the hardest jobs in the industry because destiny's child works so very hard and as many times as we told michelle and farah that this was hard and as much as we tried to explain it there are no words that can explain how difficult being a celebrity is especially when you're successful and a lot of people want you to do things basically michelle was on the monica tour she sang background and she was exposed to this fair on the other hand she had never been on tours so basically we did a show for mtv and she was distant she wasn't really vocal she wasn't really talking she was tired everybody was tired but she was over to the side so we had a meeting about that and during the meeting she said she couldn't take it anymore and she said she was going to go home so she left and mtv is still downstairs waiting for destiny's child so the three of us continued and did it hoping that maybe she didn't leave and go home maybe she just stayed at the hotel or whatever we came back she did leave and the next day we had another performance and it was very important it was for a radio station it was live on the web and mtv was also recording this performance she didn't show up for that well that afternoon we had a trip planned to australia and dustin's child was the first r b group to ever be number one there and that was a huge deal because r b is not really people are not really feeling r b there so everybody was in shock and we had two sold out venues in australia and we called her and asked her please come she said she couldn't make it and basically when you don't show up for work for over a week just like any job you can't just not show up for no reason everybody was tired we all were on the same schedule everybody was tired i think she just couldn't take it so we wish her the very best we have nothing against her but we just felt like we can continue on as a trio and that's what we're doing but farrah called beyonce a liar and said she just didn't want to deal with the embarrassment of not being able to keep members in destiny's child farrah says she was suffering from dehydration and was hospitalized for a stomach virus so she was forced to miss appearances and performances in interviews and behind the scene clips farrah always looked so out of place and distant from the other girls it's obvious that she was not having a good time while in destiny's child she spoke about an incident in a hotel room where she felt ganged up on by the girls when she revealed that under doctor's orders she would have to take two weeks off meanwhile things weren't going smoothly with the new destiny's child went to the hospital yesterday of dehydration and a stomach flu so i'm trying to get through this day but still can't wait to perform hurrah is not with us right now that girl don't feel good so she got a stomach fire we back you all right and as you can see it's only three children in destiny's child here pharah you know earlier she was telling y'all how she wasn't feeling well her stomach virus is kicking in right now and she unfortunately can't spend the rest of the day with us sarah has a stomach virus are you serious she's at the hotel do you want to say something is she listening do you think she's got the radio on we hope that she feels better and god bless her okay that's the last fight out of here yes sir you might have to go straight to the airport i don't have no luggage i'm wrong but it's better for you to go home and not have luggage it's not where y'all coming out there well somebody can sing your luggage but then i have to wait for four days before i get all my stuff it's either that or you gonna probably miss your flight farah claims tina knowles allegedly caused her hair to fall out she said by the time tina would do beyonce's weave kelly's pieces and michelle's weave she would just run a pressing comb through my hair and do whatever to it i was always last to get my hair and makeup done as far as picking out outfits i always got the leftovers or what was once latavia's michelle williams called pharah's allegations crazy and unnecessary bullcrap that's absolutely ridiculous it was also revealed in that same vibe magazine interview that it was matthew's idea to make michelle drop her ethnic name to meetra and go by her middle name michelle pharah also later alleged that matthew knowles invited her to a hotel room to meet and speak with him but instead he allegedly tried to come on to her allegedly allegedly allegedly of course matthew tells a different story he says farah failed to show up in australia for their tour after saying she was getting on the plane he said the bottom line is that farah didn't show up for work i don't care where you work whether it's a production line or whatever if you don't show up you're going to get fired i just don't think she knew what she was getting into when she joined the group farah had no idea how hard destiny's child worked we're the hardest working act on our label beyonce and kelly have never missed the show ever this is another complicated story and i don't think we'll ever know the truth to it so let's move on back in atlanta latoya luckett and latavia roberson had formed their own girl group named angel right after their departure from destiny's child linda casey the mother of the jagged edge twins held a talent search in connecticut to scout out members for the group natasha ramos natty quinones and tiffany boudoin were added to the group before they eventually became a trio toyah and i were sitting at the hair salon under the dryer and we were looking through a magazine and we saw the victoria's secret angel bra advertisement brian had said angel dust and we were coming up with different names around angel because we all felt like we've had a guardian angel bring us from bad situations together the group recorded a 22 song demo in order to promote their debut album [Music] but i never thought this would be going down [Music] the casey twins helped out with songwriting and production angel made many public appearances and also appeared in the music video for jagged edges where the party at remakes they described their sound as danceable r b with emphasis on harmonies angel was a part of jagged edge's label 581 entertainment under so-so deaf recordings who was under colombia check into my hotel room my bed is so cold and i just wanna go home and be there with you i've been feeling so alone every time i check into my hotel room my bed is so cold and i just wanna go home and be there with you i'm missing you may see you boy i'm gonna see you and all the things that we used to do and you have to be thrilled because you know you got the stuff here i mean obviously we're going to hear you sing in just a moment but you really are poised and ready to launch and that for youtube particularly has to feel amazing yeah very blessed it's amazing for us too we're so glad to have them everything has gone so well with us their album was on track to be released however the owner of so-so deaf jermaine dupri made the decision to part ways with colombia which caused the 581 entertainment label to crumble an angel's breakthrough would never happen the girls just ended up going their separate ways one thing for sure is that the breakup of destiny's child greatly affected all members but the original members always maintained that their issues were never with their former childhood friends and groupmates it was mainly the business side of things latavia said the first year after everything happened was hard i wasn't able to be around my sisters anymore we were together from 8 until almost 19 years old and that's a long time to be with somebody it seemed messy in public but really it was all about management it didn't have anything to do with us the divide for me had nothing to do with beyonce and kelly it was solely about management issues i will forever be thankful for the group because it was one of the best parts of my life i got to see the world by the time i was 18 and i got to spend it with my childhood best friend i believe in god and destiny so i have to say being replaced was one of the best things to happen to me the path led me to being the woman i am today perfectly the only thing i can say that i would have done differently is that i would have been more vocal with my sisters privately because it was just a strict deal with management but i truly believe that god has a way of making things happen and i believe that it happened exactly the way that it was supposed to end quote kelly and beyonce revealed that they both also fell into a deep depression destiny's child fan sites were being flooded with hate mail towards beyonce who says she had a nervous breakdown couldn't eat and stayed in her room for days upon days the media accused matthew of only focusing on beyonce's super stardom and also blamed all the dysfunction on beyonce she said sometimes i wish my father wasn't the manager so people would stop attacking me someone left the group blame beyonce kelly broke her toes blame beyonce we knew each other for so many years we grew up together we were best friends we were all sisters we completed each other and it wasn't losing a business partner or a group member it was losing a best friend two best friends and it hurt very very very bad and still to this day i have dreams about them and i still miss them sometimes and it's so sad and it's so unfortunate that all of those years you know it happened like that and we would have never thought when when the first album came out i would have never thought that we would end up not being together we had been in in the house just sad and me in the depression i just remember her being really sad and staying in her room for a long period of time i remember going into that room and pulling the shades up and saying you got to sit up you got to get on your knees and pray and you know we're going to get through this she always told us that it's okay to be sad but just don't lie in it you have to get yourself up you have to get your spirits up don't just lay there and matthew was like everything's gonna be okay even when things were at their worst everything was gonna be okay long as it was beyonce and kelly's doing the singing the belief of all of us is that it would make a major difference and sure enough it didn't matthew knows and beyonce that's the root that's the tree don't get it twisted everything else is a branch or a leaf beyonce you sound like you sound really like kind of hostile about this i mean has this been this this whole the rumors and stuff that this really irritates you yeah and it's really old we're kind of off of that now we sold 6 million records since then we don't really discuss any of that the old rumors and all that stuff they died down we're just happy now that we were able to move on with the two new members and we were still successful but it's clear that the group is beyonce and the girls so why don't you just go solo no disrespect to the other girls but we see how things are shaping up you guys are on tv the camera stays on you you get the hottest dior they get the leftovers and you know that's a compliment to you why don't you just go solo well i don't think that the group is beyonce and the girls and i definitely don't get the hottest looks and the cameras definitely don't stay on oh come on i sing the lead and like in swb and in any other group when someone sings the lead then the camera is on them because they're singing the majority of the song latoya luckett on the other hand decided to pursue a solo career she signed with capitol records in 2004 and released her first track called you got what i need [Music] but life after destiny's child wasn't easy for her either latoya says she had no money and slept in her car while living in la and staying with different friends latoya still managed to open her own clothing boutique in 2004 in houston texas named lady l boutique she invested between thirty thousand dollars and fifty thousand dollars of her own money in the store she also says she felt insecure about her singing voice in 2005 latoya released another single all eyes on me but this song failed to make waves like the first song that year she was featured on a track titled my promise by her label mate singer houston [Music] she also contributed the song what love can do for the soundtrack of the 2005 biographical drama film coach carter around this time she started dating houston rapper slim thug and the couple even collaborated on a track together latoya released her breakout solo single torn in march 2006. [Music] the single cracked the top 40 on the hot 100 and reached number two on the r b and hip hop chart the music video was number one on bt's 106 and park where it stayed for 25 days but the other singles failed to repeat the same success as torn according to billboard the third single obvious had a 96 chance of becoming a hit but due to the merging of capital records and virgin records all funding for the album was halted until the completion this move also affected the release and promotion for other artists at the label like janet jackson chingy and cherish but her self-titled debut album was released on july 25th 2006 and opened at number one with first week sales of 165 000 copies production of the album was handled by r b hit makers like jermaine dupree scott storch teddy bishop brian michael cox jonte austin and jess blais that year also marks latoya's first time speaking with her former friends and destiny's child groupmates she said i saw them a couple of days ago for the first time since all of the original chaos occurred we were all excited to reunite we conversed for two to three hours on clothing shoes new designer bags and the current activities in each other's lives we have all matured and grown in so many ways that it's ridiculous but for the most part it was cool latoya released two more studio albums that failed to replicate the success of her debut but she did find major success as an actress she landed roles in movies like preachers kid and killers alongside ashton kutcher as well as major roles in television series like vh1 single ladies and green leaf when angel disbanded latavia roberson had a hard time jump starting her solo music career in 2005 she was invited to replace candy in the group escape when they were attempting a comeback but latavia declined instead she began working on her own music with producers like scott storch swiss beats polo the don and andre 3000 for her solo debut but those plans went cold and no solo album by latavia would be released she had a difficult time dealing with the aftermath of destiny's child after her departure she struggled with depression and addiction over the years latapia made a number of appearances on reality shows like boulevard of broken dreams and the real housewives of atlanta before becoming a main cast member of r b diva's atlanta season 3. i mean i've always thought about doing a one-woman show your story is amazing heartbreak the rise the fall and the comeback all we got to do now is just put everything into motion so that i can help you i want you to tell me who you think that you are who you know yourself to be you know i got that audition for the group the same day to beyonce was there it was something great that happened we sold over 20 million records two grammys it was the most wonderful thing that's ever happened to me obviously the story goes wrong somewhere i was told by somebody in the group you know you don't even do enough in this group to even have an opinion from there you were basically just fired pretty much that had to be devastating it was very devastating i can't even imagine it it was like a marriage that it went wrong before i knew it i was just trying to numb so much stuff drinking all day every day i didn't even recognize myself in the mirror i got a bwi i went to jail for hatred i thought i was gonna die it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life thank you i didn't come here to cry i didn't even [Music] i'm just tired of being where i've been i know with the right opportunity you're gonna come back i mean you just a diamond in the rough i mean you just need to be polished baby i'm just ready i'm ready to work we need to just like latoya latavia also faced insecurities about her singing she went on to do different business ventures like stage plays hair extension companies and sports management in 2013 she gave birth to a daughter then three years later she would suffer a heartbreaking loss of a daughter after experiencing complications during her second pregnancy she spent the year of 2017 working on her autobiography i am latavia and developing a docu-series based on her life she also released her first song as a solo artist a lot of people have called latavia bitter over the years since she's always been vocal about her experience as a member of destiny's child but she says she's made peace with her two former childhood friends and groupmates long ago and has always maintained that she's a fan of beyonce's music when beyonce was doing the fighting temptations we saw each other we hugged each other for a very long time there was nothing but love and there were people surrounding us that saw us interacting i spoke with kelly briefly some few years ago latoya was at the hospital when i gave birth to my daughter i actually just spoke to her about her engagement then we have farah i felt like i was losing my identity and i was not being treated as you would personally want someone treating your daughter if the tables were switched around and um i just couldn't you know handle the situation anymore i had to leave after her departure from destiny's child farrah franklin wasted no time jumping into her solo career immediately after leaving she appeared on the cover of the art of macking by tariq nasheed which was kind of low brow for a lot of people in 2002 she signed a record deal with for real entertainment the label created by nelly and the saint lunatics that was later renamed dirty entertainment her first single get at me features method man [Music] but she was dropped only a year later farrah then spent two years assigned to rapper fabulous label street family entertainment before getting dropped again in 2005. throughout the 2000s fera did a lot of modeling for urban and men's magazines like vibe smooth and king magazine and made cameos in a lot of music videos and had a few acting gigs she also briefly dated lil wayne in the mid-2000s in the 2010s farah tried to get her solo music career going again but she just couldn't seem to stay out of trouble pharaoh was arrested twice for disorderly conduct in 2011 and 2014. during the 2014 incident nfl players daequan bowers and ricky sapp went out with farah in myrtle beach one saturday night and when they returned to ricky's home they say she got out of hand screaming and slamming doors it was apparent to them that she was intoxicated the athletes called the police and once they arrived pharaoh was found lying down in a neighbor's front yard after claiming she was going to sleep in the woods the nfl players also told cops that pharah may have been doing drugs since she would go to the bathroom for extended periods of time 911 ma'am i have a female that is uh causing some disservices at my house she won't leave who is she uh she's sarah franklin i think she's uh hysterical on drugs with something i'm not sure man okay hold on a second she had too many drinks and i think she's on drugs and she's just she just wasn't herself where's she gonna go i don't know she's left walking she's in the neighborhood i'm not sure but she was being disobedient my cousin asked her to stop slamming doors in his house in 2016 she was busted again for public intoxication after drunkenly arguing with a man at around 3 a.m outside of a gym in atlanta police say pharaoh smelled of alcohol had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech authorities say they discovered a green leafy substance in her purse they believed to be marijuana farrah tried doing reality tv appearing on millionaire matchmaker and a failed pilot of a reality tv show about ex-members of girl groups full story right except for me i've been in two multi-platinum successful groups and they weren't descended and i've been the biggest one in their school together i know what you wanted i wasn't sarah franklin i like her name though i'm most recognized for being a former member of destiny's child she's cute i love her my occupation is a singer-songwriter mogul i own a film company called one love pictures i know you're miss diva singer actress was in destiny's child but try to be honest with you if you pull this with guys you're gonna be single for the rest of your life because you cannot be three to four hours late it's unacceptable we did a lot of work in 24 hours but nothing really stuck for her in the past decade all of the other destiny's child members seemed like they were finally at peace with what happened in the past but farrah made it clear that she still had a lot of smoke and vitriol towards her ex-band mates more specifically towards beyonce and her father matthew knowles she constantly revisited the drama in interviews even after addressing it in every single interview since the year 2000 maybe she's still upset she didn't get to experience all the success that was ahead of the new destiny's child when destiny's child finally found stability as a trio they achieved even greater milestones than the original lineup they spawned many more international hits like lose my breath soldier and cater to you they came together again in the studio in 2004 to record their fourth and final album destiny fulfilled before officially disbanding in 2006. beyonce kelly and michelle all went on to focus on their successful solo music careers the trio has since reunited many times for music videos song features and performances and of course we have beyonce's solo career which needs no explanation since she was the group's focal point since day one she's become the world's biggest pop star since branching out as a solo artist in 2011 the mega superstar an entertainer was giving the prestigious artist of the millennium award at the billboard music awards during her acceptance speech latoya luckett and latavia roberson were among those she thanked proving that the beef was long behind her i'd like to thank kelly and michelle i'm destiny's child i wouldn't be standing on the stage if it wasn't for y'all i'd also like to thank the original members of destiny's child latoya lucky and latavia robertson however fera's name was not mentioned in 2018 beyonce reunited with both ladies backstage at her on the run 2 tour it also looks like farah wasn't invited for this reunion either i'm sure it wasn't easy for latoya and latavia to watch destiny's child become one of the biggest girl groups in the world without them especially with the way they were removed from the group i think matthew knowles was really trying to look out for all the girls because he believed in them but maybe he was also focused on launching his daughter's solo career as for farah i'm sure she was bitter as well because she was missing out on all the success of destiny's child but she didn't seem like a team player and looked very miserable the entire five months this highly publicized drama is also what shaped beyonce into the public figure that she is today the messy comments and interviews just weren't a good look and her reputation took a pretty big hit very early in her career people used to criticize her attitude and call her unlikable and i think that's why she barely even does interviews and stays to herself and just makes her music and art the main focus of her career let me know your thoughts in the comments below like this video and
