- This is my living room and it's basically a tech nerd's dream. Giant OLED TV, Valve Index VR gaming setup with full body tracking,
high performance gaming PC, game consoles... - Six consoles! - Enough controllers to choke a horse, but it's missing one key thing: looks. So, today, with the help of
LG, who sponsored this video and sent over their GX
Gallery 77 inch OLED TV, we're gonna be giving
my living room something that it hasn't had in 10
years, a clean, new look. Starting with those couches. (funky upbeat music) I cannot believe how much
of a difference it makes going from dark to light flooring, and now that it's in, we can
move on to the important stuff. This is the new GX Gallery design LG OLED in the 77 inch size, and it's gonna take up pretty much this whole recessed area here. It's completely flush mount
with no external processing box, so it's actually gonna sit
really nicely in this enclosure and we're not gonna have
the big bulky speakers and everything kind of overflowing, and looking weird anymore. Many of the benefits of the GX are ones that I already enjoyed
with my last generation C9. It uses OLED technology, which means that every
pixel is self-illuminating, so you've got perfect black levels, vibrant colors, all that good stuff. It's 4K so, obviously, the
picture is super sharp, even though this is a
gigantic 77 inch display. It features HDMI 2.1, which
means high refresh rate gaming. Not to mention with G-SYNC compatibility at up to 4K resolution and eARK, which means higher resolution,
higher quality audio to something like an external soundbar, and, of course, the design
is super thin and modern. Actually, more so one this one, I'm used to to seeing these TVs have either a bulge down at the bottom or an external soundbar unit
that contains the processing, like we saw on their first
generation SIGNATURE series. But this one is just
uniformly pretty thin, and one of the reasons
they took this approach is there are actually four
different ways to mount the GX. The way we're going with today is using the included wall mount and running cable through
the wall with a conduit. But, if you're not feeling confident in cutting holes in your wall, you can use a raceway cable
concealer to hide the cables. If you do wanna get the true
flush mount with no gaps, you'll need to use a recessed
box that goes into the wall, but that one will require
professional installation. The last two ways to install are using a standard VESA
300 by 300 wall mount, just make sure it's rated
to handle the TV's weight, and, finally, if you're not able to mount the GX to the wall, you can buy their display stand and have it sit where you want it. Though, I can't say I see the
point of going with the GX if you're gonna do it that way. Even LG's magic remote, with
it's air mouse controls, handy shortcut keys, and
multi-device control capabilities is mostly carried over from last time. So, what it really comes down to is the new Alpha 9 Gen 3 processor. The processor power is everything, from the "hey, LG" voice control to the snappiness of the interface, but the biggest one is improvements to its ability to AI upscale
lower resolution content to the native 4K resolution of this panel, and intelligently select
which sound profile it should be in, depending
on the type of content. For example, amplifying voices when there's a bunch of background noise in whatever it is that you're viewing. (plastic crinkling) I guess it would have been a lot smarter to peel it after it's already on the wall. (plastic crinkles) (sighs) Hey, so, which wall mount was
I supposed to use for this? I don't see one that comes
with it, there's no... Come to think of it, I
don't see any accessories. I don't even see the... Oh, dang it, I've done this
before, yup, there it is. It has some other features, like virtual support for Dolby Atmos, sports alert, which will give
you updates on up to 20 teams, even while you're watching other content, and improved motions moving, but since I'm gonna be
using a higher-end soundbar than the integrated speakers
and I don't watch sports, those ones aren't nearly as big a deal to me as Dolby Vision IQ, which automatically
adjust picture settings depending on ambient light and content, and, this is a really big one for me, filmmaker mode, which is a
mode you can put the TV in where it will just strip out any image quality altering
filters, or anything like that, and just display the
content as color accurately and as true to the original
filmmakers vision as possible. - I'm just putting the sides on the entertainment unit right now. What do you think of the color, Andy? - [Andy] It looks good. - Yeah? Okay, cool. I was a little worried
when I first saw it. Be gentle, that's not gentle. - I'm gentle.
(Yvonne sighs) - Let's eyeball it, come down a little bit.
- You need to center it. - Yeah, okay, that's fine,
but come down a little bit. - You're higher than me. - No, I am not higher than you. - Andy, who's higher?
- Andy? - [Andy] Yvonne is higher. - Really?
- Yeah! - [Andy] Yeah.
- Okay, how about now?
- [Andy] That's good. Yeah, that's good.
- Fine. - [Andy] I think. - I was actually really
worried if all of your stuff was gonna fit in here, like your receiver. - We're not using the receiver anymore. - Oh, thank goodness,
that worked out (laughs) - Well, that's where this comes in. Now, the next thing we need to figure out, TV height, is the soundbar. I know a lot of people are gonna give me a hard time about this, but when you're deciding
between discreet speakers for every channel and a soundbar, there's more to it than just necessarily the audio quality and the directionality, and I've actually been pretty impressed with the last couple of high
end soundbars that I've tried, so I have pretty high hopes
for the SN11RG from LG here. It's a 7.1.4 setup but, because
of the setup of my room, like I don't really have
anywhere to put rear speakers by the time I'm sitting
a comfortable distance from a TV that large. So, funny story then, I'm
not even actually planning to use the included
wireless surround speakers that come with this thing. Just the soundbar itself
and the subwoofer. I wanna at least give it a shot, because, compared to the old setup, I'm expecting much better directionality, because this is a Dolby Atmos soundbar with AI room measuring technology, so it should, theoretically, by bouncing sound off the
ceiling and off the walls, should sound a lot more directional. I find it very hard to believe that this tiny little bracket
holds up that gigantic TV. - [Yvonne] Those are pretty
hefty anchors though. - That's a bummer, my stud is
right there and right there, so if we were willing to
have it not quite centered in this alcove, hey! - [Yvonne] Yeah? - Are we will to have it not
quite centered in the alcove? - [Yvonne] How close is it? - Not that close, it'd
be like, this far off. - [Yvonne] That'd be weird. - Yeah, I don't even know if it would fit. What I can do, is I can
create a mounting plate, by- - [Yvonne] But then it's not gonna be flush against the wall. - No, it won't be quite
flush, but the TVs so flat. - Stud.
- Hang on, let me make sure it works.
(Yvonne sighs) It's not working. (drilling whirring) There, huh, I could hang off that! - [Yvonne] Please don't.
(Linus groans) You're gonna break my
entertainment unit (laughs). - Well, would you not be entertained? - Ready?
(paper rips) - Ugh, wait, what, what,
what! No, I didn't- - I just asked you, but
you put your head through, so I assumed you meant yes.
- I was just messing around! (Yvonne laughs)
What if we ever took it down and what if we move and we
wanted to mount the TV again? - You are not keeping this
piece of paper until we move and need to mount the TV again. - Yes, I am, it's just paper.
- No, you're not, it's garbage!
(paper crumpling) - Stop, no, no, for real, no really. Okay, can I have a Philips head bit? - Yeah, that one I know.
- The cross. - [Yvonne] I know that one! - It's fine, I can just hold
this thing here forever. (drilling whirring) Okay, that is a solid mount,
I wanna put a hole in the wall to run the cables down the wall, so we've got a completely clean mount. - Shouldn't we just-
- But I- - Do that now?
- Wanna see it. - [Narrator] A few moments later. - Okay, it's in.
(Linus sighs) So, you wanna do that again, eh? - (laughs) Hey, that was pretty smooth, now that we got technique down. Doesn't look level.
- It's crooked, how did that happen? Do we need the instructions,
where are the instructions? - We don't need instructions. - [Yvonne] Our wall's just not even. - Ah, well, now we know. - It's a little high. - We can lower it, aren't you
glad we're doing this test? - Okay, we're gonna
cut the hole this time, we're not doing this a third time. - Yeah, 100%.
- Okay. - Okay.
- So, how many inches do we need to come down, two? - Let's try not to sever an optical cable while we're doing this. Just to be clear, neither I nor LG, recommends running cables
without the proper recessed box. If you wanna run the cables in the wall, it's really better to just
have a professional come in and do it for you. This is a tough decision,
one of the ideas that I had, to make this as clean as possible, was to move my VR gaming rig upstairs. Kind of like what I experimented with in whole house, one PC. So we've got a bunch more
display port couplers, so we could have both of these optical display port cables
running through the wall, and to just a little wall plate. You plug the VR headset
into the wall plate. I don't have a ton of
confidence that a display port over that distance is gonna behave nicely, and there are advantages to
having the PC right there if you wanna just plug
something in or whatever. If we want all the cables
pre-plugged into the TV before we mount it, that
means I'm gonna have to salvage some cables from the old setup. To save some time later, I'm actually plugging in every
cable I'm gonna need now, and then all I need to do is
label them on the other end. So this is HDMI connection number one, and it'll be easy to make
sure everything's plugged in to the right port on the
TV without pulling it out and trying to look under it like that. - Okay, that's good. Down, nope, oh, yep, in, in. - That's it?
- Yep, you're good. - Oh, that was so much
easier a second time around. There's a lot of cable
here, ladies and gentlemen. All right, this is perfect,
I can start to mount things to the back of the
console and cable manage, I've made the difficult decision to leave the optical cables in the wall, but, actually, still have
everything here for now. In the future, I might explore
adding an optical HDMI, and maybe having a receiver upstairs, and the computer upstairs,
and stuff like that, but for now I just wanna
get everything cleaned up and then I can experiment
with the down the line. We're going straight to just hot glue. You can at least improve
your chances of it sticking by scuffing up the back a little bit, before you put it on. (sword clattering) - Oops, ugh, well, at least
it was sheathed, right? - I want the VR headset
to be tucked in here when it's not in use, okay. All right, it's a little... We need to go here, ugh! Totally painless, love it! I love it when startup wizards work. - No, it goes inside or on the shelf. (drawer slams) (remote clatters) (laughs) I didn't mean to do that. I'm moving our ugly
cat tree back in place. Linus won't get rid of it. - [Linus] I won't what?
- Get rid of it. - [Linus] The cat loves it.
- Is she, oh (laughs). She did not care at all that I moved that. - She would care if you got rid of it. Between my remotes and trackers, I've got a lot of VR junk to charge, so this little 10-port charger doodad is gonna sit down here with the VR stuff. Just kind of... (chuckles) It's not
particularly tidy looking, but at least it's hidden away. Ow, my arm is stuck, I
hate cable management. It is absolutely crazy
how much less cabling and how much less stuff there is, now that we don't have the receiver, and I still have five total
HDMI inputs, it's not bad. I still don't know how it sounds though. Before we can test it, I wanna do their AI room calibration thing. For best results, run it
in a quiet state, okay. (bird calling) (electricity whomping) (stream bubbling)
(bird calling) Okay, well now that's set up. Can I put the sword back up? - [Yvonne] No, the mantle was just painted and, also, I don't know if
we're putting the sword back. - Finalization time, the
actual AV setup is done. That looks so slick, like, honestly. - I put the two chairs in, I think it actually looks
better with just one chair, but it comes in sets and
I'm just gonna clean up, vacuum, put knickknacks up,
I think we're almost there. - I hate these chairs, aw, these aren't even
comfortable, they're horrible. Here's the debate, Yvonne
says my Laz-e-boy is ugly, I say her stupid blue
chair is uncomfortable. Let's let the viewers decide, okay? Ugly gray Laz-e-boy or that thing? (loudly groaning) Oh yeah,
put up the feet, oh yeah. - But mine, which are
gonna match the wall, and they're gonna match the accent pillows that are gonna go there,
it's gonna look really nice. - This is the kind of seating you have when you want your guests to leave. You can't sit on a couch
when it has junk all over it. - Well, it's pretty, and yes
you can, you just adjust them. - That, see, that's
what I'm talking about. Just, (grumbles) adjust it. - Well, once you adjust
it once you're good, see? - Here's an adjustment. - No, that's... - Here, your pillows can go over there. - What are you doing, you're mean. - I call it honest. Before I fire up a game,
I wanna flip on HDR. Hey, you. (girl sniffles) - Are you sad?
- Yeah. - Would you like a pillow to hug? - Yeah, please.
- Yeah, does that make you feel better? - (mumbles) Yeah. - Yeah?
- What, oh, the pillow, ugh. What do you think of the new setup there? - Cool. - Ah, I'm trying to find my friend right now in the game, okay. - [Linus's Daughter] Which friend? - His name is Jonah and we
were exploring together. I'm gonna fire up one of my favorite looking movies on Blu-ray, so this is "How to Train Your
Dragon: The Hidden World." - Oh hey, it's really nice to finally... (Hiccup screaming) - It took a full day to get
everything plunked into place, and there's still some finishing touches, like these transition
strips are mostly missing and this ones not even attached, and you probably noticed some choppiness in the frame rate when I
was playing "Tomb Raider." That's 'cause this is, probably, at about 45, 50 degrees in
here, it's really, really hot, I gotta add ventilation,
but it's mostly set up. I'm surprised at how
good the soundbar sounds, and I'm not surprised, but
the TV looks freaking awesome. It's the same OLED technology that I've loved for the last... Wow, I mean, my daily driver's been OLED at home for years now,
but in a new form factor that gives you absolutely
zero distractions whatsoever, especially when you take the time to put it in a setup like this one. (sweeping music) - [Linus's Daughter] That's too loud. - Oh, sorry, too loud. So, thanks again to LG
for sponsoring this video, and thanks to you guys for watching it, if you enjoyed this video,
maybe check out the video where I upgraded my old
cabinet with cooling. It's a pretty simple
mod but definitely one that's worthwhile if
you have hot components that are in an enclosed space.
