The Big Lebowski's "White Russian" | How to Drink

this is how to drink the show about making cocktails and how to drink them I'm Greg and I have never been a professional bartender I've never even had a job in a bar I don't worry too much about precision and technique because at the end of the day if the drinking like is in the glass you did it right let's get going in 1998 the Coen brothers released The Big Lebowski and it was something of an overnight sensation you know that's just like your opinion man I doubt that any of you can recall exactly the number of times you've heard somebody do an impersonation of the dude or mentioned the dude abides or that donnie is out of his [ __ ] league I certainly can't remember how many times that's happened to me and the the primary protagonists the film the dude as played by Jeff Bridges is very famous for drinking White Russians the only drinks actually seven in the movie which on the one hand doesn't sound like a whole lot but on the other hand movies only an hour and a half or two hours long seven drinks that's a lot of drinks he drinks very heavily over the course that film really the Coen brothers wrote the film for Jeff Bridges as a matter of fact not just Jeff Bridges but they wrote every character specifically for the actors who are performing in them so in honor the dude and the Big Lebowski let's build a White Russian I'm going to start building a strength by cracking a big ice cube into this glass this cube is just too big for this drink I want something with a little bit more surface area than this will allow so we're gonna crack it if you happen to have regular-sized ice cubes that will be fine too and we're gonna start with a 2 ounce pour of vodka I'm using Stoll Aquino yeah one nice thing that Stoli is that they make a vodka that is a hundred proof instead of your normal eighty this particular bottle is only eighty because my liquor store didn't have the high proof stuff I would have preferred the hyper stuff anyway some of you playing the home game might be noticing hey that's the person on TV vodka on the show so there it is vodka doesn't come up on this show at all before because almost all the drinks we've done have been pre-prohibition drinks and vodka doesn't show up in those at all but now we're doing some other things here we are with vodka we need an ounce of coffee liqueur now I know the standard coffee liqueur to use is Kahlua I have nothing against clew I think it's fine product but when I was at my liquor store buying products for use for the show I noticed that st. George now makes one and I said well I love everything they make so let's try that out now this is in a New Orleans style chicory is a bittering agent and it is famously used in New Orleans style coffee if you've ever been to New Orleans and you've gone to Cafe Du Monde and ordered beignets and coffee you've had the chicory root coffee that they make they're a little something extra there and we need an ounce of heavy cream now some people are going to be tempted to go with like cream or something like half-and-half or even just plain milk it's a white brush and we should use the heavy cream I think don't like that you should just make a black Russian and stop reading it we don't really want to incorporate it though we want to pour it off the back of our spoon so that's a White Russian the first vodka cocktail on how to drink let's see how I like it I hate this drink a lot of you even asked me for a drink that I hate this is a drink I hate to me this kind of tastes like coffee and a doctor's office mixed up together oh my god that is horrible okay one I don't want to blame it on the st. George stuff I like their products I don't think it's their fault I think I just don't like this drink I think we can do better though let's try and just put that aside or something so I've got cracked ice in my double box glass and skip the vodka I have a seven-year-old havana club from Cuba let's add two ounces of this into my double rocks glass smells promising I'm gonna skip the coffee liqueur this time this drink already is high enough group we don't really need to add any more alcohol to it as far as I'm concerned what I have instead is a coffee syrup that I make this is just a standard simple syrup equal parts sugar with about a cup of ground coffee added into the pot when I make it and if you've ever had a Manhattan special which is a bottled espresso drink that's espresso and seltzer take this pour this into a glass with some seltzer it makes your own Manhattan special I'm gonna add an ounce of my own coffee syrup and once again an ounce of heavy cream it's the other string came out the black cubed oh my god that is so much better [Music] okay look I don't I don't I don't want to toot my own horn but I find this this is his personal preference this to me doctor's office and some coffee gross this is like a grown-up milkshake that you would order from Starbucks but with alcohol the Cuban rum the rum in general works I think much better here than the neutral vodka we made a White Russian for the big lebowski and I hated it and so then I made a black cube and also for the Big Lebowski but really just for me so I wouldn't have to drink this drink you know that really is tasty though that's distractingly good it's just candy alcoholic coffee candy that's what they say this elite tastes like melted coffee ice cream yep I hope you been enjoying the show if you have thank you so much for watching please subscribe share the show tell your friends tell your mom and dad and enjoy a black Cuban for a White Russian you know it may be in a different room the White Russian would work but in this room the black Cuban really ties it together and thanks again and I'll see you guys next week with another cocktail here how to drink bye bye I got to go find a carpet the Annihilus Lebowski
