The Big Decision Jordan Burroughs Should Consider

so has anyone else been thinking about Saturday night Jordan Burroughs chance Marceau the the match ends and you have this intense juxtaposition you've got the Elation of chance marstellar celebrating with his coaches then you've got the whole Stellar train crew coming down onto the mat celebrating with chance then you look to the middle of the mat after chances hand has been raised bro's just sitting there and he's looking down he's kind of almost kneeling messing with his tape pulling it off deep in thought and you're just kind of wondering what's he thinking about right now right and I know a lot of people thought hey is he thinking about taking off his shoes and that was not actually a thought that that entered my mind at that moment and I don't think that was the case I think what we were seeing from Jordan in that moment is kind of coming to terms with with a lot of different things you know I think there's got to be an element of disbelief Jordan Burroughs is the reigning world champion in the last two years at 79 kilograms the reigning world champion is not on the team which you know accredited to the depth we have it at Team USA at 79 kilograms and a credit to chance marsdale that he was able to to knock him off so I think there's a little disbelief there it's like I'm not on the team and for Jordan Burroughs you say this has happened before but this is the first time he's not made a world team right he didn't make the Olympic team in 21 this is the first time he's never made a world team in his since 2011 that's a long time it's an extended period of time and uh you know I think another thing other than the disbelief there's got to be a heartbreak element where you know this is a guy who has a really high standard and really you know he's basically mapped out how he wants his career to end he said it's going to end in 2024 at Olympic trials or the Olympic Games one way or the other it's going to be done and you've got to assume that certainly Jordan was thinking I'm gonna make the team again at 79. I'm going to get another medal probably gold and then I'm going to be able to sit out to the to the semis at 74 kilograms and that's going to be a challenge there too because you look at 21 Jordan Burroughs was sitting to the finals waiting for Jake Dake ran through the the bracket and then faced Jordan and beat him in too straight it's already gonna be a little bit tougher right Jordan knows that Jordan is gonna be a little bit tougher in 2024 just to make the finals because you have to win a semi in The Challenge tournament final but now the I don't know if intimidation is the right word because it's it doesn't seem reasonable to think of Jordan Bros being intimidated by anything but the the reality the the sheer math that he's going to be dropped into a bracket uh with no benefit whatsoever he's gonna be in there with with Keegan O'Toole with Jason nolph with David Carr probably with Vincenzo Joseph and a host of other you know maybe Carter storages he says he's coming down uh and a number of other really really tough 74 kilogram guys and now The Gauntlet for Jordan to get on this Olympic team is even steeper it's even more treacherous and those young guys you know the reverence for Jordan and and I don't know if they're gonna be wrestling that guy anymore right because now we've seen Jordan look you know more Mortal than ever right we watched him lose twice the chance martial you could say three times in a row he was outskilled by chance marsteller and that's that's a reality that I think Jordan signed up for right he's he wrestled a long time and made the decision I'm gonna I'm gonna continue I'm gonna continue and there's no guarantees how it's going to end and it if you stick around long enough you're gonna have a tough ending to to your career right um You can go out on top or you can try to extend it and it can be a really difficult conclusion I think Jordan's facing that and I think that kind of brings me to my next point where and it's something you know jail put out a video about it last yesterday I think but I've been saying this since 2021 is that Jordan needs to go up he needs to go up to 86 kilograms for the Olympic you're not down what we saw at the Olympic trials and in 2021 I didn't think was a representation of Jordan we're used to seeing right and that's without taking anything away from what date did to Jordan that's that's undeniable that Jake was was the better man but I also think it wasn't if you look at that 2021 Jordan version versus what we saw at the world championships at 79 completely different guy and I think what Jordan risks going down to 74s his body just may not respond I did a video about 57 kilograms weight class matters in the beginning of Jordan's career he was making 74 kilograms the day before okay the difference between the day before one time and day of weigh-ins two days in a row it's just tremendous right I mean most everyone watching here is a wrestler a fan of wrestling has an understanding of the weight cutting process and it's not hard to understand how much more difficult it is now for Jordan and not to mention the fact that he has just naturally gotten bigger as you age right not to mention the fact that he's older and as you age it becomes older and older to take that weight off and and compete with the same effect you had previously so my thought since 2021 comparing his performance against David Taylor uh in January of 2021 at 185 and and comparing them to his result against Kyle Dake both those guys are Olympic champion caliber David Taylor is an Olympic champion Kyle Dake is a multiple world champion one of the best wrestlers walking the planet right now Bar None and he was closer to David right even though he was wrestling up nearly 20 pounds above his Olympic weight class he was competitive with Dave now is he ready to beat David I don't know man I don't know David Taylor seems to be it's still improving scarily enough but I think Jordan needs to at least you know I I I don't know what he needs to do but I wouldn't be surprised if Jordan takes a beat and thinks man should I really be cutting back down because you watch him watch him at the world championships in 2022 watch him at final x uh last week where do you find you know 10 pounds 11 pounds to take off of Jordan Burroughs right he's pretty lean right now and now you're going to take him down to 163 and a half from from 174 11 pounds that's a lot and that's going to be really tough and so I don't know what Jordan was thinking in that moment but I think he's smart and he knows now what's up ahead of him is just a little bit tougher and I think the weight is is something that should be considered and I think 86 while I think it could be a long shot it is a long shot to make that team I think you run the you at least have the ability to put Jordan Burrows out on the mat at 86 kilograms full of fire strength energy movement and he's going to be able to go out in in Jordan Bros fashion if he doesn't make the team whereas at 74 kilograms I'm not sure he'll he'll have that ability we've seen a lot of great wrestlers Try to Make A Way cut down and they don't look the same and it's not their fault the size is their size the the weight classes are terrible for the Olympics going from 163 to 189 is is a Preposterous jump that makes no sense that's another subject for another day but it's pertinent right now because it's the exact scenario that Jordan Bros finds himself and I don't know what he'll decide at my my thought is he is going to stay down because Jordan is someone who has a plan and sticks to it and executes and I think he'll probably stay down at 74 kilograms if if I had to guess because that's what he's he's committed to do but I gotta say I am fascinated now with this new wrinkle of him being on the outside looking into the world team and not having the benefit to see how the last year of Jordan Burroughs career concludes foreign
