[Music] hi Super Soul fans welcome to the vest of the Oprah show on Super Soul Sunday you know I believe your life speaks to you through every daily experience whether it's the people you meet the pain and fear you suffer or even that lingering self-doubt all speaking to you many of you at home want to know how to listen to those messages and discover what your life is really trying to tell you well today we are going to try to help you begin to listen to that inner voice it's always always speaking you'll meet people like Tyler Perry and others who started to live the lives they always dreamed of just by paying attention to the ways the universe was speaking to them this was Tyler's first time on the Oprah show and he's one of the best examples I think of someone who listened to his intuition what I'm hoping is that Today's Show will inspire you to begin to look at your own life what's your passion what is your purpose lifestyle makeover expert Cheryl Richardson is back to help you connect with listening to what your purpose in life is so today you're going to meet people who started to live the life they always dreamed of by paying attention this is so important if you just pay attention to the messages in your life and I often say we say this after the show many times a lot of people think oh I went in I prayed I asked God a woman said to me when I went in I did that meditation thing Oprah I prayed I asked God nothing happened you know because you're thinking it's going to come with a Mormon Tabernacle Choir yes it's not a Moses in the burning bush announcement people right it's every other experience in your life okay we hope their stories today are going to inspire you to begin to examine your life and ask what messages are you getting this is Tyler Perry listen to this Tyler was homeless and living in his car are less than 4 years ago and now he's a successful playwright with soldout shows and rave reviews in major cities across the country because Tyler says he learned to do exactly what we're talking about listen to your life to listen to his life by taking responsibility exactly exactly look at Tyler's story honey I can't even find words to express what it has meant for me to understand that taking responsibility is key to changing your life in my childhood was a nightmare at the hands of my father I suffered a great deal of Torment he was very physically abusive I remember him beating me with the vacuum cleaner cord and verbally abusive as well I would write and draw and do things like that and he thought of those things of for sissies and he felt that he could beat that out of me so much anger had built inside of me that I couldn't be successful at anything and would always find a way to self-sabotage something because I didn't didn't feel like I was good enough in the late ' 80s and early '90s I was watching the Oprah show and she said that it was cathartic to actually get things out of you and put them on paper so I started writing letters to myself to deal with the childhood pain I started using different characters names and it would actually become the my very first play I know I've been changed don't you know how much it hurts me to see you jump every time I come near you the show would open and close the reviews would be good but fin eventually it would be just a disaster and this would happen over and over and over again I lost everything I had and eventually I will end up out on the street and homeless it was the darkest time in my life then one day I have this phone call with my parents we're having an argument and I get to confront my father in ways that I've never had all of the anger and bitterness and frustration that I had held on to came out at that moment there something very incredible about actually having confront your abuser I would never in life let anybody or any situation have control over me again although I was angry and bitter and blaming everyone in life I had to take responsibility for that cuz he didn't just hurt you he hurt me say don't do this please he didn't just have sex with you that man molested me just as in the play how this character confronts the parent it changed his life life so much that he he became a different person the exact same thing happened to me I finally listened to the thing that I had written 6 years ago subconsciously had come to me and said this is how you become successful at whatever you do forgive once I've learned the power of forgiveness I was able to move on and everything everything changed life now is wonderful I've written five plays in the last 3 years grossed over $20 million and seeing 20 to 30,000 people a week coming to a Tyler B show to imagine that it's it's it's almost mindboggling my relationship with my father is great I'm actually living in a house that he built the same hands he used to abuse and beat me with I live in a house those hands built you have to remember that you're encouraging a woman who's been abused so when you get to your life won't be easy cuz there's so much to learn I mean you really need to convince her of that in the song I look in your eyes my father is so proud of me he cries at every show at every performance to think had I not listened to what my life was saying to me in my own writing I would never be at this point I had finally heard what life had to [Music] say this is Tyler Perry we just saw his story uh he was homeless for four years uh four years ago until he learned to listen to his life how long were you homeless it was a 3-month period but when you're homeless it seems like it's forever cuz what does that feel like to be out on the street you just feel hopeless and I'd always had this sense of knowing who God was in in my life just from a kid I had aunts and uncles who were reverends and ministers but I did not quite understand who he was until you're actually homeless and you're out on the street and it's it's the most amazing thing CU isn't I saw a documentary once that it's like you you have to keep moving cuz there's no place that is really your own there's nothing you can claim you can't even really claim a place to sit you don't know how to claim where you going to sleep you know yeah certainly certainly and I I had my car cuz they couldn't find it so as long as I had the car I had shelter when I when I couldn't afford to pay by the Week hotels yeah and so what was the pivotal moment do you feel that you know you hit a pivotal moment that there's a moment where you go so low that you then you decide all right I'm going to rise again what was the pivotal moment having that conversation with my parents we had this argument and I had the after the because you were still in contact with your parents even though you're on the street yeah I was still still in contact and I always had the option of going back there but going back there represented going back to that controlling situation and I didn't want that so I going back to the abuser right exactly exactly and they had always told me what I wouldn't do I couldn't make it so I was determined to make it happen and I'm I'm sitting there I'm having this conversation with them and this argument and I started saying things that I didn't even know were there as as if the child in me started speaking to my father and saying things over the phone over the phone in the in the course of this argument saying things that he had wanted to say that he couldn't but me as a man I could like what could you give us just an example well you did this to me and I wasn't responsible for that you were mean to me you beat me with vacuum cleaners you would call me every profane name in the book constantly it was nothing in my life positive from you and I said all of those kinds of things to him and the things I said to my mother you stayed with him through all of this when you knew he was beating when you knew this you knew this and I felt like I was sacrificed by her uhhuh and saying all of that I felt like if you ever had a frightened child around you who when he's afraid he'll hold you very tightly and I felt like once that was over the child in me let my soul go and I felt this sense of freedom and lightness that was incredible and I wanted to research it and keep it at all cost wow yeah and that was the turning point that was the turning point for me everything in life at that moment changed I realized that all of the failures and everything that had happened were my responsibility m wasn't the actors it wasn't that the show wasn't promoted properly I was preaching about forgiveness to people and I hadn't learned to forgive wow yeah yeah yeah so it was hypocritical but once I learned that it turned around it turned around the because your intention behind it changed exactly my intent changed and people's perception of the show changed they received it differently they actually I started getting letters from people who were uh saying that this helped change my life seeing this show and it's a wonderful wonderful thing that is fasc don't you find that fascinating you changed and then everything else changed exactly exactly that's exactly what happened in this very dark time in Louisiana you know there were no positive influences outside of the house and then I would go in the house and they were even worse but there was a woman who came on television every day at 3:00 don't start with me do not go there listen to me you talk about listening to Life's lessons come on come on had I not saw that show where you said said it was cathartic to actually write things down I would not have started writing and I wouldn't be here to tell you that when you speak people's lives change and thank you for being an instrument that God used to have changed my life don't do it don't do it all right there's Tyler par so with this catharsis this process I'm sure you even became more creative did you certainly certainly yeah especially when it comes to laughter I mean the characters that I play in the show are are characters that make have the audience bent over in laughter so it's just a it's a great time it's a great time thank you for your story thank you thank you no thank [Applause] you what Tyler said is so true isn't it you changed your perception and everything else changes and he took full responsibility you know when you said he changed and then the show changed and the response to the show that's what happens I think in your situation Tyler by by confronting your parents and telling the truth you pulled your power back from the past into the present moment and then you were able to take full responsibility for your life and from there doors open up because I always say this if you don't heal the wounds from your past and I'm sure you would agree with this Tyler you don't heal them you just try to bandage them and move on in life you will continue to bleed you have to pull it up and look at it and heal it yeah exactly now meet Eileen Fischer you may not recognize her face but you will certainly recognize her clothes her Fashions are everywhere in mag magazine uh and major department stores across the country eileene says the most powerful lesson she learned about listening to her life her intuition take a look listening to my inner voice is everything it's just without it I would definitely not be where I am today it's so important it teaches you about yourself it helps you go where you want to go when I was a little girl I didn't feel that listening to myself was something okay to do I was taught to be nice and to think about other people and to not to think about myself I didn't listen to myself I think because I just thought it was a selfish thing to do I like the way it feels when I was in my 20s I was working in interior design and graphic design and also working as a waitress to make ends meet during that time I dreamt about beginning my clothing line I wasn't certain how I was going to go about it or anything more about it but that I knew that that something was calling me I was so confused at the time that I couldn't hear the voices inside me telling me what to do or how to go about it I wasn't listening to my intuition I wasn't following my feeling I was definitely surrounded by a lot of negative energy people were saying things like you're a dreamer you're not going to be able to make this happen I think when people said things that weren't supportive it made me doubt myself and so in order to try to get clear I began to write and it began to help me see myself mostly what the journaling was telling me was get out of this situation you need more support once I surrounded myself with people who were supportive I was able to follow my dream I remember the day that I made the decision to start the clothing business I remember sitting looking at my bank account and seeing that I had $350 and saying it's now or never this is it and I really had to think about it I really had to listen to my own voice that was saying yes this is it this is the picture this is the the vision go for it once I started my business it was as if the energy was just flowing ideas were just flowing it was like I was on the path and it was it was just happening I think it was happening because I was following my intuition I was listening to myself and then I was listening to the world I feel really really lucky to have been able to start my business with only $350 and build it into this really great company worth over $100 million doll today in our company success is really about the process the way we create the way we love the product the way we work together so what else do you guys love every day I listen to my intuition I believe that every minute we're awake our life is sending us messages about what we should be doing where we should be headed this is Eileen fiser of Eileen Fisher designs we're so thrilled to have you here great you take my seat you take my seat that's great that's marvelous model now we're we're trying to get to the $350 part because there are a lot of people watching right now who you have $350 but you don't we don't know how to turn it into aund million1 million business that day I remember looking at that bank account saying $350 but it was but it had but there were things coming at me like I had for years been seeing these little these pictures in my mind of these visions and you know clothes sweaters yeah you know well they were no no they were swe they were they were like really simple long skirts I love the long skirts yeah long skirts but they were very simple shapes and they were the idea was just great fabric simple shapes great colors and it all goes together Eileen says she was so scared to follow her heart that she couldn't speak at her first trade show I remember standing there I remember buyers buyers coming up I had designed four garments and they were hanging there and I remember buyers coming up I'm saying and how much does that cost and I I was just like um I don't know can you can can you come back later and no or were you how much do you want it to cost thank you so much e fiser well we're talking about the power of listening to your life because it's speaking to you all day all the time the question is are you paying attention take a look at how one woman became a legend by using her inition to hear the voice of a 67 million year old dinosaur soe Hendrickson is a real life Indiana Jones her intuition led her to some of the most startling discoveries of the last 20 years whether it's instinct or a sick sense I'm not sure but I do seem to have something I can be out looking for things and with no indication of anything no clue I just feel like I have to stop and I need to look or I need to go to a certain area and a number of times I found something and something very important Sue intuition guides her to Precious fossils all over the world she helped find Cleopatra's Palace and Napoleon's Fleet both submerged in waters off Egypt a surprising career for someone who dropped out of school because of boredom at age 17 when I'm doing my field work I'm truly living in the moment there's absolutely no distractions I'm really in ecstasy Sue believes her Instinct and patience make up for lack of physical strength I've always followed my instincts even when people expected other things of me she made her biggest Discovery while searching for dinosaur bones in the Black Hills of South Dakota as her crew was getting ready to leave something told Sue to stay it was almost like a magnetic pole I was pulled to that spot I kept thinking about it I kept wanting to go there my dog Gypsy and I walked seven miles and went went to this one Cliff one small area and I was looking along the ground at the base of the cliff and I found a few crumbled bones and I looked up above my head and there were six bones sticking out of the side of the cliff it's as if the dinosaur cried out to me those bones turned out to be the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex ever found hidden for 67 million years T-Rex Sue named after her Discoverer was so to the Chicago fil museum for more than $8 million I think all children are born with curiosity but something in our society dampens it this is where I've been lucky I feel like I'm a child that never grew up so sue is named after Sue yes I know we've seen Sue Sue is here in Chicago The Field Museum yeah Sue Sue is ours the museum paid $8 million for Sue we feel like she belongs to us she's our girl Sue Cheryl says that being in the moment which is something that Sue was talking about will help you respond better to the messages in your life yes cuz we're talking about paying attention to your intuition and Sue is a great example of that when you just when you hyperfocus almost when you become present in the moment you can actually hear what your inner voice is telling you yeah and you can't pay attention to what's going on in your life if you're focused on what's going to happen tomorrow or what's going to happen in the next hour what happened before yeah I mean again it's like with Tyler as well you pull yourself back into the present from either the future or the past and that's where power is and that's when you start to he to heal the past you got to heal the past so it doesn't follow you for the rest of your life you'll drag it around for the rest of your life the truth sometimes your life speaks to you in the most unlikely ways and when you least expect it this is John John a car salesman he was after helping us out on a recent show he says his life began to scream messages at him on that show we met a busy mom who was having problem setting boundaries and facing confrontation so after sh gave her the tools and language to start setting the bound boundaries we had asked John who was the car salesman to help us test her new skills now turns out that while he was just helping this other lady out he uh learned a few things about himself this is what happened to John I'm here to face my world's worst nightmare I'm going to negotiate a car my profit margin is is is so small at this point I need to try and make some money too all I need you to hear me say right now is this is too much I asked you and you signed there and said yeah that's that's it's fine I'm okay prerogative to change your mind though it was very grueling but at the same time it was a very powerful experience now we expected gayin to be helped but we never expected what happened next John the car salesman was in our audience that day and had this to say after the show you sir final question one thing was being on national TV saying you're the worst nightm then a picture of me on there that helped out a lot I'm the I'm the car guy oh after we filmed the piece cuz we did it early on a Saturday I started thinking a lot about what what she was going through I decided that what I was doing as far as my career and my life and putting everything else aside you know doing all this work for everyone in the place I decided that I'm taking a break from all that and I'm setting some time aside for myself John was so inspired by our show that he started his own lifestyle makeover a few days later he dropped a bombshell on his bosses two days after taping with gayin I gave notice at the dealership but before the taping it was like my life was whispering to me and after it was screaming and it was at that point that I decided to take a step back analyze and make the changes that I really needed to do for me I thought I was very happy being surrounded by the leather sofas and the big screen TVs and all those things but there was really no substance to it it was all just a facade I was uncomfortable with myself I I hated being alone I had to have people around me and feeding into my ego so that way I wouldn't think about how I really felt inside I've now Associated myself with people who really care about who I am I wouldn't listen to that little voice in the back of my head that said you need to change things you need to do something else I started reading Cheryl's book and I'm enrolled back in college I decided that going back to school was more important than working at the job that I was at from from a spiritual standpoint it's I mean it's a amazing to to actually be yourself and to to not have to put on put on that mask joh [Music] Jin I just love the way this works it's it's the same thing tiger was saying earlier when you release then the rest of the world really Rises up to meet you you were helping out gayin then you have this epipal moment for yourself because that whole tape piece was about Gaylin learning to stand up for herself you those of you who didn't see it and so John KN was in on the deal of trying to be the tough car salesman and she had to stand up to him so you knew that that's what we were trying to do absolutely and it was just it was interesting to to see someone else and have having them Empower themselves and thinking myself well I can do this too and so I I went ahead and did it and everything's going good thank you so much [Music] John what gets you excited when do you feel most like your authentic self the clues to finding what you were meant to do start with those questions what makes me feel great it's about what makes you feel passion over the years we've heard from thousands of women who say they're desperate to discover their purpose well you're about to meet Amy Saddler who like so many of you loving wives and mothers out there she felt like her own dreams got lost along the way in the busyness of life oh we know what that feels like like so today we are giving you tools for finding what is your passion I know I taught a class on it so I know that you know even grad students who are there don't know what and the idea that you can follow your passion and still be successful financially as well as spiritually emotionally I think is a difficult concept for people because we've been raised to believe that you make the money and then worry about what it is you really want to do when it's really the opposite yeah CU we often equate passion with the Arts traditionally so a lot of people think about writing or acting or painting and you know then and we're taught growing up that there's no money in that when really passion is so much much broader than that well our lifestyle makeover expert Cheryl Richardson is here that was Cheryl talking to you Cheryl says that many women are disconnected that is the word for this decade I'm telling you if not this Century disconnected from their passion because their chaotic lives have left them numb yes yeah which is a really important point when it comes to Passion often when we talk about passion we think in terms of a job or a cause that will make us feel good but the Step before that is to reawaken our feeling State because passion is intense emotion you can be really angry at somebody and feel passionate you can be really touched by something and feel passionate and if you're if you're watching this or sitting in this audience and not feeling anything you're going to have a really hard time finding your passion because that's what you mean by numb exactly that means because you know what that to me means is that you have spent so much time in your life doing being following the voices of the world the voices of you know the world your mother Society whatever that you haven't taken the time to listen to what you had to say to you that's right for some people I think raising their children is their passion it's just that they don't realize it right so this is Amy and Amy loves being a wife and mother but says she feels like something is missing from her life I know this is I'm just is calling your name lots of you out there and she is also desperate to find her passion take a look Sadler up at the AL plays you know professional baseball and everyone thinks that it's this glamorous wonderful life and they don't realize all the dedication it takes and the sacrifice any minor league ball player is so set on making it to the big leagues that everyone around them is gets consumed into their dream and when we first got together I had dreams and Ambitions for myself but I found that his dreams have become mine hello my own family when they call it's not well Amy what have you been up to it's all how's Al's arm is he getting ready for spring training how's he feeling and everything is focused on him and what he's doing it makes me feel invalid as a person as if I'm here strictly for Al and not for me I love being a stay-at-home mom I'm blessed that I'm able ble to be at home with my girls I wouldn't trade that for anything but my spirit keeps telling me there's something more for me I went and picked up my daughter from school and day and we were driving home and she asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and it really hit me that she doesn't see me as being anything and that's when it really made me realize more that there was more for me to do I want to be a strong role model I want want my girls to grow up and be strong women and to go after what they want and I feel like how can I tell them to do that if I if I can't do it for myself I feel like I've let myself down this is not the person that I used to be I used to have an incredibly High self-esteem I graduated in the top of my class I was National Honor Society I was student body president I was captain of the volleyball team captain of the basketball team team felt really good about myself and just over the years it's slowly but surely diminished I don't want to turn around at 40 and be in the same boat I'm still young enough now where I know I want to make the change and start living my life to the fullest now when I figure out what that passion is it will complete my life and I know that and I know that I will be 100% happy because passion is what Gary's zukov describes as authentic power I see them as the same thing it's when your personality comes to serve the energy of your soul when your Soul's desire what your Soul's purpose is is aligned with whatever your personality is that when those two come together you have amazing power amazing power that opens doors you you can't even imagine um and what we saw in that piece Amy is you know Amy just needs to to carve out time for herself I mean I think when your daughter said Mommy what do you want to be when you grow up and everyone in here sort of chuckled because so many of us ask ourselves that question when she asked that question are we growing up yet is the question I ask that's a really that's a really good point because we're not most of us are children walking around in adult bodies and part of finding your passion is growing up and part of growing up is making time for yourself making time for your priorities it's the best modeling you'll do for your daughters for your children now that's interesting because I know I talked to Robin MRA who's Phil mcg's uh wife and she was saying that her the thing she was most passionate about and I know a lot of other moms feel this way is raising the children that is what she always wanted to do was to have a family and to stay at home and raise your children so I was saying to Cheryl during your peace if that had been it for you when your daughter said Mommy what do you do you could have said I'm a mommy right I'm a mommy and I love being a mother I think that is the most powerful thing on Earth being a good mommy oh yeah yeah yeah that it really is yeah I I think too many women sitting at home right now play being a mommy small that is the greatest mommies are the greatest spiritual teachers on Earth that's how God uses mommies you know I love that I love being home with my girls I wouldn't trade that for anything but I just have a part of me that has that competitor in me that needs something more exactly more exactly it's being the student council president yeah yeah and so how does she begin to find that well I I just wanted to say that there are a lot of mothers that need permission to just really engage in a passionate pursuit of Parenthood say that three times fast yeah um and there are mothers out there that do want something in addition to being a parent coming up Amy goes on a treasure hunt this is going to be so helpful to you because it yeah it works for everybody in her home to find her true passion there's a way to do it how to find the clues for you to your Hidden Dreams they're all around you back in a moment all around you you've always [Music] head we are giving you a step-by-step guide to finding your passion with Cheryl Richardson Cheryl wrote the book life makeovers and a lot of you have been so turned on to that that actually you're just going out in droves just like I knew you would buying that book life makeovers because what she does is it you get something new to do every week and every week do something else leading you to changing your life or improving your life if that's what you chose to do the key to discovering your passion she says exists all around you there are Clues everywhere so Cheryl had Amy go on a mini retreat and a treasure hunt of sorts in her own home to find Clues to her passion this is what happened for Amy Amy answered a series of questions designed to help her think of her life in a new way the first question was what are you afraid of admitting I was most afraid of admitting that I like competition I love that that gives me a charge I personally learned my self-esteem through Sports I've always been tall but I was proud of my body because it served what I love to do another question Amy answered what do you love about yourself I'm very sensitive to other people's suffering and issues then Amy began a journey of self-discovery she looked to her past for Clues to her forgotten passion best blocker volleyball all tournament team best free throw award my homecoming queen crown and my prom queen crown when I'm growing up I'm going to be a teacher because I like to write on the chalkboard as Amy continued to sift through the layers of her childhood memories she made this emotional Discovery this is a a um picture of my grandfather I'd forgotten I had it he was always there for me he made me believe in myself and he was by far the most important and most influential person in my life when Amy remembered how her grandfather influenced her life she made a connection that helped her find her passion inspired by her grandfather she decided she wanted to motivate teenage girls and encourage their self-esteem the exercise showed me that I'm really passionate about wanting to help young women feel good about themselves and I think that that would probably be through coaching that I would like to do that these uh exercises made me realize that Athletics was not just a Pastime and a hobby for me that it's really something that's part of me that I I love does it always happen that quickly first of all I'm like who has their prom queen uh Tiara sa who has a treasure I mean I'm thinking I could go I think if you were the prom queen you probably do have something I'm sure oh I wasn't indeed you are correct I'm sure that's right I want to my mother had that I didn't okay that's great so when how did this happen because I know that's a tape piece I know they spent hours with you so it doesn't just happen in a bing bing or what happened I think it was more that like I had said on the tape that I I realized that Athletics was more a part of me than what I had given it credit for that I knew it was something you know one of the questions was what did you love as a child that you don't do any longer and I I played Sports my entire life and I didn't realize that I loved it more than than you know than just a hobby or a Pastime and let's look at the path of what happened because it was a longer period of time she discovered that she really liked competition but was afraid to admit it she said that there was a part of her that said she wanted to be a teacher when she was little cuz she wanted to write on the Blackboard but there's there's a clue she enjoyed supporting other people helping other people and clearly if you looked at the treasure hunt piece Sports was really important to her when you put those pieces together it made perfect sense that this is an Avenue that Amy at least needs to go down she needs to then act on some of what she's learned about herself to see where it leads her and it led her somewhere well those are good questions because if you just ask a person the question what's important to you right most people go from what's important to me now well taking care of yes no it's this is like a large treasure hunt it's really becoming hyp sensitive to your environment your past your present and your future so that you can start to look for Clues because they really do exist all around well where are all the questions are they in the book you'll see oh okay are the questions in the book because I mean I'm thinking I'm just sitting at home I'm in Iowa and I'm thinking okay those were two questions but that's not going to get me through the day there are a whole lot of questions in my book because questions are a very powerful way for us to uncover a lot of our I'm asking that because I think most people don't know the questions to ask themselves that's exactly right they keep saying I mean I've done this before where people say I don't I don't know so you say what are you passionate about they go I don't know what I'm passionate about and you you have to get at it with different questions like what's the one thing you fantasize about when you're driving in the car that you never want to tell anyone about come on is there anything yeah for me there was and I have actually lived it I mean I'm I I live my passions my for me it was singing on stage with Tina Turner and and let me just tell you guys let me tell you this gu and the day it actually happened uh I was so nervous like walking up the ramp and I was coming down and I had you know done the rehearsal every day before and I was so nervous on and then there was a moment on stage with her when we're halfway through the song and I go this is about to be over so you better enjoy it here are some other questions that can help you discover what your passions are what interest what passion or desire are you most afraid of knitting to yourself and to others usually the things that are really important to us we keep hidden inside because we're embarrassed about them or we have a hard time believing we could actually do anything with it because you think people would laugh you off the planet and a lot of times they probably would yeah cuz you think you going to do that okay what would you do if you knew you could not fail oo that's good yeah sure I mean think about it what would you do if you knew you couldn't fail I would get on stage with Tina Turner and sing and what do you love about yourself yes because uh as a matter of fact the things that we love about ourselves hold Clues as to what we can do to serve other people or what we can do to serve ourselves uh what would you do if money that's a great question what do you love about yourself yes uh what would you do if money was not a concern in your life sure this goes back to what you said earlier Oprah and that is so many of us the minute we start to think about things that we love we automatically think oh I could never afford to do that I have to pay the bills and we shut ourselves down and when you shut yourself down you shut yourself off from those things that will lead you the to the paths that will take that will allow you to feel really passion this is the question this is the big one this is big is really big what would you regret not having done if your life was ending I lived by this question yeah anytime I'm considering anything new in my life I ask myself if I was at the end of my life on my death deathbed would I regret not having done this and usually the things that I feel afraid of and excited about are the very things I'd regret and that's a signal to me that it's time to move forward and to not let fear stop me we need to be able to move through fear in order to discover the things we're passion now I use that question that way and another way too like because in the in the sense that you know I don't get angry at a lot of things or don't let a lot of things upset me because I use that question I say if this were the last day of my life and you never know if it is yes would this matter that's great would this matter that's great absolutely and that just eliminates a whole lot of [Music] okay Cheryl says taking action is one way to overcome your fear of following your passion so she challenged Amy to take a risk and step out of her comfort zone to reconnect with her passion take a look at what happened Amy combined her love of sports and competition with her desire to reach teenage girls by going to the local Boys and Girls Club to become a basketball coach I'm interested in coming up here one day a week I need to be flexible cuz I have two children anything that you can do would be really helpful so could you start today I'd love to do it okay good my name is Amy I'm interested in starting a basketball program helping you to develop your basketball skills and also help you develop your skills as young women um help you with your self-esteem feeling good about yourself I'm really looking forward to coming in and spending time with all of you well let's go you're going to dribble up to this white line here okay there see oh there you go free shot Yay good job I definitely think this is my passion I got out there and I just had flashbacks and I felt really at home immediately I got a really good feeling of the girls and I really feel if I continue to come here that I can make a difference in some of their lives you guys did a really good job today and I'm looking forward to coming back again and I hope you guys had fun everyone have a good time so they taped that two days ago you're going once a week MH that's good now how did your husband feel about all this your husband the athlete he's he's been he wants me to do something for myself he's fully supportive of me and I think that I drove him crazy after that day cuz I wouldn't stop talking about it really yeah you see how different she looked on the tape did you see how different you looked Amy SM alive absolutely and so she needed to overcome her fear and just take some kind of action who knows knows where that's going to lead you but a point that I really want to make is that it' been going on for so long I thought for sure that it had to be a complicated answer that it would had to be more than something just as simple and and just something that simple doing it for yourself an hour or two a week make made me feel like a whole I I felt like I used to again and I just didn't think it would be that easy right there in front of me that is a life makeover yeah that's fabulous thank you thank you both this is what I know for sure if Amy can find her path to meaning and purpose it means it's possible for any of us it starts with understanding what really makes you feel alive I always say what gives you your juice figure out what that is and then do more of that than not thanks to all of you soulseekers out there for watching the best of
