[Music] foreign [Music] today we'll be doing a fresh take on a fundamental part of color grading which is split toning and curves so for this we'll be using a special dctl I'll leave a link down below which you can download and drag into your Lots folder so now here in my project we have a couple of basic notes set up on this one we have a CSD taking it from a log to rec 709 which could search it and we have a white balance and exposure node we'll quickly adjust the white balance and exposure to a liking [Music] so now I've adjusted my base image it went from this to this which is a little bit Overexposed but it helps with the dreamy fives so we're going to go to the CB note which stands for color balance I'm gonna drag a dctl on there which is a defensive effect after you download the file from GitHub you'll find it in description drag it into your Luts folder so you're going to drag it into your Luts folder and then you're going to load it up from here after you restart DaVinci you need to restart it otherwise it doesn't work now in here you'll see a bunch of Sliders basically this controls the amount of colors in each area of your image like the curse would can very easily start adding cyan in your shadows as you'll see now it matched up the skin tones a little bit so you can go to your mid-tones drag it towards rent and there we go we already have a little bit of a split on going we went from this to this which is already a little bit of an improvement but we can tweak it more now we can also add a little bit of blue to the highlights because it's in a foggy first maybe not too much and I like it over there so now we can just play a little bit with a sliders to see what happens to the image for example with the low magent or high magenta this is supposed to say high magenta but it says low right now because of a coating issue as soon all right tweak it very precisely by sliding on the numbers instead of the slider I'm going to turn it up a little bit and we went from this to this which is already starting to look like a slight look as you can see the main thing still is the skin tones and getting those right which is obviously more of a complex task than just putting some sliders around so we're going to keep keep going and put a little bit more yellow into them as you can see just pull them more evenly animated image a little bit warmer I like that a lot now we went from this to this you can see it's only a slight difference but it already makes a huge difference in the feeling it has you can play around with it a little bit more by making the highlights a little bit darker so what we can do now is add a parallel amount call it space pull it down here grab a mask put it around my face make it a nice size that fits it feather it out nicely so it looks nice and fitting around your face now we can start playing around with another color balance maybe even put a color balance in here and then you can for example make the lows a little bit more red since your face became a little bit blue after you put on the original color balance I like to use color balance instead of Curves because it's more intuitive also I prefer the same magenta and yellow blue green and red option over just grabbing the curves and using red green and blue maybe we can also lighten up the skin a little bit by grabbing the gamma and pulling it up a little bit not too much because it becomes very obvious where the mask is if you do feather it out a little bit more and now we have before and after of the face which obviously you know comes very dull if you turn it off and turn it on again you need to track this if you want to put the full shot but for now this is fine for me now we can also add another mask add a parallel called this background very long name you can also just call it BG for background and then we're gonna make an elongated mask around me feather it out I prefer doing this than over an actual perfectly fitting mask that you need to track in and stuff I just want a general vignetting coming in from the sides a little bit so I'm going to grab this we're going to grab the gamma turn down a bit I forgot to insert the mask and we're going to grab the gamma again and you see how it becomes a bit darker you can feather it out a little bit more and now we went from this to this which is obviously a little bit nicer and we can add one final note at parallel palette sky grab it grab a gradient Pull It in from the top and lower the highlights a little bit and then lower the game a little bit and it's slightly darkens the sky area because I found it a little bit too bright and then we can maybe also remove a little bit of extra contrast to make it look a little bit more foggy so now if we turn all this off it looks like this and with it looks like this for the first second it might look like a very specific mask and you can see where the mask is but if you look now at the shunt you'll see that overall it looks very nice and has a lot of depth compared to before it looks like this then we went to this so that's how you can quickly create a split on image with a dcdl which is a very fresh way of doing it compared to using the curves even though it achieves the same result but in a more intuitive way I hope you like this tutorial if you did leave a comment down below and if you have suggestions for new videos let me know and I'll catch you in the next one
