grab your coffee cup guys it is time for The Frugal viewer tips edition of coffee [Music] chat welcome to coffee chat where once a month we drink great coffee and we also talk about fality every once in a while we do a Q&A where you guys get to ask Larry KN any questions that you would like us to answer and this month we are featuring tips from our Frugal viewers this is really exciting guys we got some great tips in this month but first of all we always talk about what are we drinking we are drinking fire department coffee and this is the dark roast oh my gosh is it ever Rich what's nice about it is that First Responders own the company retired First Responders and a portion of all the proceeds from the coffee company go right back to help First Responders and their families located in Rockford Illinois guys as always when it comes to coffee we buy the coffee we drink the coffee we tell you about the coffee and we're going to leave a link to the coffee in the description of the video now we have amazing viewers with amazing viewer tips so let's get started with them number one Teresa black sent in this I found some boxes and wrapping paper that I wasn't using cut off the flaps on the top of the boxes decorating them with wrapping paper now she's using them as Nic looking storage bins doesn't that make you feel better tell me if you agree with me like when I open a storage cabinet if everything looks nice and neat and like color-coordinated like she said with the stuff all wrapped it just it makes me feel better about my life if everything is organized I like it crazy ant Shan says I have one no spend weekend a month I buy nothing from Friday until Monday I usually get things done around the house eat up the food I already have and take advantage of free events in my city that is awesome you know what's interesting to me is it's kind of like a reset yeah it is it's a reminder that you don't have to spend money to have fun and uh one of our other viewers had a really interesting take on this it was like the opposite uh she only allows herself to spend money on the weekends so 5 days a week she spends no money sort of sort of an interesting idea Jess R rights I waited until Memorial weekend to get a coupon for 20% off my ultra beut store order and invested in buying everything to doing my own procedures for under $25 instead of getting a pedicure every week plus tips that can easily run up to $50 plus I can do my pedicures at home all year for under $25 that is a substantial savings what's nice about this tip is it it's the same across the board whenever you get ready to buy something there are sales Cycles where things are going to go on sale we just talked about this in a recent video how we are getting ready to replace not one not two but three mattresses in this house don't ask and they just all weree out at the same time and uh we decided that we would wait until Memorial Day and check to see if we could get a great deal we did not find a great deal so now we're sort of banking on either Father's Day Fourth of July we're figuring that somewhere in these major summer holidays there going to be some great deals on mattresses but whenever you have to replace something in your house think about can I wait until I find a great sale on the item you know we love highlighting ways that our viewers save money if you want to know how we save money in fact the top 10 ways that we save money you need our free guide It's called 10 ways to radically reduce your expenses it's all the ways that we saved money when we were grabbing for great big financial goals on a low income I walk you step by step through each of the tips and I give you checklist for every single tip it's free guys a link to the guide will be in the description of the video n your business says Best Buy dates are just suggestions use your best judgment and don't throw out perfectly good food because the date might say or indicate that it's bad that means the date might be expired and I would use your good judgment by smelling the item taking a real good look at it maybe feeling it just check into it a little bit to see if it's okay to eat DG YouTube says don't leave the house to go shopping until you have several things super important number one a list of what you need number two the balance left in the shopping categories that you're shopping for so if you're shopping for food in addition to household Personal Care type things we keep those separate in our budget I don't know if you guys do or not but we definitely keep them separated so if you're shopping for items for more than one budget category make sure you know which you have left how much money you have available in those categories and number three here's the one you may miss but it is super important a plan for the shortest driving route if you're going to more than one place that will also save you some time and we hadn't really thought about saving time but if you're that efficient at your shopping you'll have more time to do some other things you know what else we will maximize your miles per gallon yes if you shop this way yeah we always say that you need to put several uh trips on one day or two days a week and do all of your shopping all of your running my parents always called it the day for running and they weren't running they were driving the car but that's our running day to go and get everything done and part of it is because we lived in this teeny tiny town that was like 25 miles from the nearest Big Town so when we went out we had to pretty much get everything done CU once you were back home you were back home to stay we just did a video by the way on uh getting the best miles per gallon we're going to make sure guys we're going to leave a link to it it's he he's got great ideas on how to maximize your miles per gallon in car there's a lot of things you can do all right now I'm going to put my finger up we're going to link it up above and also in the description of the video Helen says I buy a huge pack of toilet paper 24 rolls which is the cheapest but I don't throw away the toilet paper plastic package that they come in instead she uses that to line her garbage bins and I think that's a great idea I would not have thought of using the toilet paper paper the plastic cellophane paper as a garbage bag interestingly we have employed a number of different sizes and types of bags as liners for for uh garbage bins yeah I want to know what do you guys line your garbage B with which is unconventional not a traditional made for you bag to put into your garbage bin we used a while back our boys did this and we were so proud we had empty a 50 lb bag of oats and one of the boys was like well that's about the right size for the garbage pale and they lined it the garbage paale with it we like yeah they put that in the in the garbage pen and and it worked great for that we love how Thrifty they are yeah all right garbage bins what do you line them with all right DEA says buy a rotisserie chicken from Costco for $4.99 it's good quality you can make it into at least three meals plus make chicken broth from the bones and carcass of course we don't eat meat anymore but man when we ate meat this was a nice what's nice about the chickens from Costco or even from you get them from Kroger any major grocery store Sams we used to get them from Sams they're good we used to get them and they're big enough that you can easily get three to four meals out of one chicken and it feels like such a Splurge doesn't it because you're not making it someone else already cooked it for you it is a great way to have a takeout without paying the takeout price is to go buy one of those Tom Langley has a little tip for saving some electricity I have no TV on during the day until 5:00 p.m. this has saved me an enormous amount on my electricity now modern day TVs don't really use a lot of power I've clocked RS it goes anywhere from 40 to 60 watts depending on the brightness of the picture that happens to be on at that time that isn't using a ton but if you're not turning it on till 5:00 p.m. every day that's just all the more you're going to be saving on your TV usage what was interesting about Tom's comment that I read in its entirety was that it seemed that he was really emphasizing it's just not the TV for him it's like other forms of electricity that he was using throughout the day minimizing electric use until 5:00 p.m. was super helpful to him uh rate says we have hung rods along the ceiling of our porch now this is a porch that has screened it's screened in porch M uh for drying clothes indoors with protection but you also get the fresh air from the open porch windows no need to worry about rain the one thing that I miss about our old house one thing is that screened in front porch oh my gosh I loved it so much like beyond words I loved that screened in porch this is a great idea Katherine Richardson responded and she has actually a really great idea too she said they use their screen in PCH a lot for company so she has a retractable cloth line we had a retractable clothes line at our old house so it retracts up into this little like I don't know it's like a cylinder yeah it retracts small real small yeah retracts into there and then you just pull it across and you hook it on the other side of your room and you can dry your clothes and then when you're done you just unhook it and it retracts and you can't even tell it's just this little cylinder little metal cylinder on the wall yeah we pulled it across to our driveway and while it was across you wouldn't be able to get the cars in and out with all the clothes hanging from it but once the clothes were dried you retract it and then you can operate your cars on the driveway so it was very handy this one was four lines too yeah it was a big trable and it was four a lot of clothes it was a big clothes line Y Angela writes I use silicon muffin trays to freeze soups beans and sauces in half cup portion sizes then after they're frozen I transfer them to a freezer safe container that is a great way to organize your freezer items and if you're doing smaller amounts like let's say you're freezing lemon juice or lime juice something where you don't want like A4 cup or a half a cup then just use ice CU cube trays standard ice cube tray is two tablespoons guys bratty Anne says when I take my kids for ice cream I get a medium it's a very large ice cream cone for a medium I ask for an extra cup and a spoon and I split the ice cream into two servings like I like you know we don't take our kids out for ice cream but you could take me out for ice cream I would split I would split a medium cone with you I would do that Elizabeth coats writes stop grazing the grocery stores make 90% of my meals from my pantry and food stores and only shop for clearance meats and super deals on in season items I use Flash Food to stock up and preserve for future recipes that's a really good use of her grocery money I love flash food we don't have it around here but those of you who watch from Canada Canada we got you on on a couple of these tips uh I believe flash food is available in Canada and and it's a really great deal so there you go I think two good to go if I'm not mistaken is another app that's what Bakery like at the end of the day when Bakery have stuff left over they'll put it in a big bag get a big bag of Bagles or different kinds of Breads and it's like five bucks a bag or eight bucks a bag something like that if you use if you use uh Flash Food are too good to go I want to know in the comments if you really like those and uh and I believe both of those are also available in Canada just a fry guy learn to make your teens favorite drinks at home or by bulk so they don't feel left out of the trend we live in North New Jersey it's very trendy for teens to drink bubble tea drinks at the mall and they're $8 each wow so I bought on Amazon the tapioca pearls that are bubbles on those teas so he's found a cheaper way to get them himself and make them for his teenage kids I love you so much just a fry guy my kids love those drinks yeah they do and I'm like what I don't get it I'm going to be really honest and say just those tapioca pearls in there just I'm telling you like it it makes me kind of orpie just to look at them but they love them and I thought making that like a DIY our youngest son is graduating from high school next year so I'm already starting to like get ideas for his graduation party yeah which we will have here and one of his brothers asked for a uh a coffee bar and I thought wouldn't it be interesting to figure out how to make these drinks those Bubble Up drinks bubble tea bubble tea to make those and make different flavors and have like a a DIY make it yourself I don't know I don't know if that's possible but it gave me like a super great idea to be thinking about all right that's gold Jerry says cash back apps yes uh but I only use them on items mainly grocery products that I will need or will be purchasing anyway mean Canada Canada I told you we had you covered we have something called Checkout 51 that's what you guys need to watch for you can regularly get up to $3 back on cereal and even more on household cleaning and bathroom products I think you folks in us have a greater variety of these apps as well it's possible it's possible we have a video planned guys where I go through like eight apps and I think I think seven of the eight apps don't quote me on that I think there're available in Canada so I have all my information together I just have to figure out how we're going to show you how these things work in Gnam rights check internet for cheap medicine here in Sweden painkillers cost $5 in the physical ocracy but on the internet a dollar delivery included now these these must be uh uh over-the-counter drugs I'm sure that they're talking about like aspirin or Tylenol or Motrin something like that right same with animal medicine for example tablets for deworming is much cheaper on the internet you can save a lot well thanks so much for that tip and thanks for watching from Sweden that is totally fun for us Rusty Riley long time under the medium viewer good friend uh pay your house or car payment if you get paid every two weeks so instead of if your house payment is $500 a month instead of paying that once a month you're going to break it up into two payments you get payment paycheck number one you pay 250 $ then paycheck number two you pay $250 here's the magic that happens and people don't think about this and we know this cuz Larry was paid by a weekly for decades oh yeah instead of 24 checks a year that means you're going to get 26 checks a year there are two magic checks that happen because there are like three Fridays in a month and so you wind up with those two extra paychecks so instead of making 12 payments once a month on your mortgage you're making bi-weekly payments and you wind up making an extra payment every single year it does help pay off your mortgage faster Chrissy s writes if you're trying to find something you need for your car or yard or house or whatever mention this to your friends and family in other words mention that need to people that you know often someone might have what you want for free or maybe they're willing to sell it to you very cheap or sometimes they know of a really good source to purchase that item you can say save yourself lots of money that way it so we've talked about this a little bit on the channel and we call it the hierarchy of fality yeah where when you want something or need something you start off being able to get it for free so you're going to mention it to family friends whoever and they don't have to to give it to you sometimes they'll sell it to you inexpensively but then the next rung on the hierarchy of frugality would be getting it inexpensively or uh getting it secondhand and then the top rung would be yeah you're willing to pay retail but you're not going to pay full retail value that's the rule isn't it is never pay retail you're going to make sure that you get as many discounts as possible even if you're paying uh at a retail establishment hierarchy of frugality I like it it's a new word I'm GNA coin it we're going to start using it guys Francis writes there is a group called SBA Ka who are interested in marketing you can sign up with them and they will send you postage paid mailers to send them your junk mail wow I have a place for junk mail they will accept junk email you get points for all that you send in after a bit your points add up and you get $20 every so often I get it every few months that is nice your junk mail now can make you some money how about that instead of cursing your junk mail you can do something with it to bring in a little extra cash who knew who knew Jessica says I found a way to lower the price of one of our streaming services because it had almost doubled in price we changed to with ads instead of Premium I didn't even realize they were two different levels now that's what happens and I think I know what streaming service she's talking about because about two or three years ago they said oh yeah we're going to offer another level but those who were already on the premium level they just kept them on there kept charging them a little more a little more a little more uh a tip for viewers besides decreasing subscription Services is to know when there's a price change if something all of a sudden starts going up don't let it just kind of creep up look and see if there are other options available call them and say they're a cheaper lever level that I package I can get because often times there is also sometimes little know college students can qualify for a low rate with some Services we know this from our colle boys yeah for example Spotify and Amazon Prime oh and some internet providers have internet for qualifying new customers that are low income it's slower but it works well enough to complete schoolwork while other family members game or stream oh that's good look around guys make sure you're getting the lowest price Sarah writes I make a big pot of oatmeal on Monday morning eat a portion and keep the rest in the fridge that way I have some to eat every week Day morning there's no decision fatigue and I no longer stop multiple times a week at the quickmart on the way to work for unhealthy pre-made bacon egg and cheese sandwiches for the lack of time to cook we do this as well I make oatmeal all the time for our breakfasts sometimes I make a large batch and then we put it in the refrigerator put a date on it we use it the next day it's a great way to make it go and last and you don't have to cook it from scratch every single day here's another tip from Sarah I work at a library that is part of a school district and there are frequent food leftovers from programs corporate lunches the cafe once I'm sure that no one else wants any more food I intercept that food before it goes into the garbage can this used to happen quite a little bit um where Larry used to work they would have lunches and there was stuff left over and he would bring home bring condiments like a lot of condiments would be left over and they would have just thrown those into the garbage can yep now if you want even more tips from our amazing viewers you can get some more tips and frugality advice from them just watch one of our previous coffee chats we've got one all lined up for you right over there go take a look
