The BEST foods to eat in Rome, Italy (with prices)

hello from Rome welcome back or welcome if you're new here my name is Steph and along with my husband Pete and our three year old son Hayes we have been traveling full-time for 18 months but we began right here in Rome in September of 2021. do you know where you are where are you now we found ourselves back here and if we're being totally honest it's with one priority and one priority only I'm asked to eat as much as we can I don't know what I'm doing and our first stop for today is at Antico Forno rochioli for one of my favorite snacks I don't know in the world it's called um well it's basically Pizza Bianca so like plain pizza dough with Mortadella which was Discovery for me last time because if you're American like me it looks kind of like baloney but it could not be further from bologna it's so delicious and it's a classic Roman snack here they call it Pizza a mortaza or mataza I don't know my Italian is atrocious another reason I love this place is because I don't love Italian breakfast it's very simple and sweet and maybe not much at all this Bakery is open early come get this almost any time of the day all right I've got something that we haven't gotten here before and it was the porchetta sandwich and it's got like thin slices of potato on top of it the volcano is unbelievable it's got like the crispy skin inside seriously good [Music] this porno in Campo di Fiore is also a really awesome place to get the pizza Matata and [Music] [Applause] um so it's Rings yummy so we have an extra but it's not your open we're just going for a walk and we saw this Espresso Bar and espresso is something you obviously have to have on Italy uh but we're also having a maritotso which is a very Roman thing it's like a bread roll with um cream I don't think this is the best or the most famous and I don't know the name of this place you could get espresso anywhere yeah I mean honestly that's pretty good I'm not sure you can go wrong we went to a very famous place where they sell these last time and uh this is just as good how did I do that one minute okay I just want to say one more thing about that place but what I love about those like non-descript Place espresso bars is that they just say bar and yeah you can get espresso which is what we did but there was also a gentleman having a glass of red wine and a smoke at 11 30 in the morning on a Friday living weekend it's Friday Friday this is again it's Friday hey you ready starting place from the highest of heights daily depths of Hell Ain't Nothing Gonna hit like fries [Music] we come is too blizzio for suply which is if you know arancini I think those are from Sicily souply is a Rome's answer to that so it's a fried rice ball this is the classic version which is rice with tomato and then there's a hunk of mozzarella inside and then they batter it and they fry it it's delicious obviously and then we gotta catch out a Pepe version um we haven't yet featured any pasta in this video but we will because a very famous Roman pasta and this is the souffle version of that you got I guess pecorino some pepper there's still the mozzarella in this with the rice it's very good even better with me I need some midnight price [Music] [Music] those are so good we've now crossed the Tiber River to come to the trastevere which is the neighborhood we stayed in last time really really Charming but we've come here for three reasons for pizza for gelato and most importantly for a playground which might actually be our favorite playground we've seen in 18 months and 19 countries yeah I fell over at that time we uh we came here after three months of traveling around India I'll link some of those videos if you want to check them out um this is just walking around saying every five seconds it's really funny it does miss the cows on the street though I'm not gonna film Haze in the playground because I don't film other kids but right back there that's the one next to this adorable Neighborhood Market okay now that we have been to like I don't know hundreds of playgrounds in dozens of countries this one doesn't look as remarkable as I remember it but he just reminded me of the reason we loved it is it has punches all the way around it so you basically you can just say chill out and watch your kid play yeah like benches everywhere very close to the equipment so you can be responsible yet very lazy okay it's nicer in the light late summer when all the trees are like full of leaves and stuff it's like pretty Bare Bones now because we're like coming out of the winter but it's still looking great Charming [Music] today mango and also uh I don't know how to say it yeah do you want to try that I can let you try it so if you like it [Music] thank you so we have a few favorite gelato spots after staying here for one month uh but this is one of our big time favorites it's called otileg that's gelato backwards I always get the pistachio and salted peanut Beauty to get in here sorry must be really annoying living right there with all the tourists at this gelato spot anyway it's delicious what did you get I got Grandma and a chocolate truffle let us know in the comments what's your favorite let us know what's your favorite combination I like salty ones there's also another really delicious one on the other side of the playground we were at called uh fata Morgana it's a toss-up the thing about Rome I think Europe in general is that you need reservations and we knew this and we booked this trip three weeks ago and every night I thought Steph you should make reservations and we didn't we've just taken the tram here 20 minutes to eat at this place we ate in 2015. it was so good and the venue's in a chalkboard and usually last time we were here we would just say we'd come right when they open we'd say we have a three-year-old we'd be really quick because Italians eat for hours and hours we're like nope just service we'll be gone and it didn't work and they don't even have availability to borrow oh if you take one thing away from this video it's that if you're coming to Rome make a reservation we are like in the suburbs I don't know what this is but this is 20 minutes from where we're staying where we're staying is on kind of the edge so make reservation [Music] do you like YouTube films yeah we love it first class okay yeah we've been here in 2021 I remember you we came here in 2021 ah okay [Music] all right cool thank you okay I know that this is a like must eat in Rome video so you're probably thinking Ethiopian food but the area that we're staying in and the surrounding kind of neighborhoods are super diverse and home to a lot of delicious non-italian food Ethiopian is one of our favorite Cuisines and we don't have a restaurant where we're from in Chattanooga so we often eat it from every single City we visit we have actually been to this restaurant we love it the guy is so friendly the food is delicious so if you're here long enough to enjoy some non-italian food this is a great great option highly recommend it especially For You vegetarians out there yes [Music] morning it's the next morning it's Saturday morning and today we've come to a farmer's market called Campagna Amica which is pretty special and very Roman because nothing in here is made from more than 150 kilometers I think away it's all in the latia region which is the region around Rome so it's super duper local and we're going to check out a couple of markets today we haven't been to this one and then we're gonna go to one of our favorites and then I think we'll go have a picnic addition to the picnic we're shopping for we're also about to apply to the UK in a couple of days and we want to make pasta salad Grisha for Pete's parents so we're looking for the ingredients for that as well we haven't had that yet in this video but stay tuned we will be eating it we buy diet artichokes we didn't get these last time we were here they went in season so very excited to try these and then obviously they go really well with a beer so I think you dip it in the beard eh lemon Realm nice crispy batter not too heavy kind of salty as well and um delicious what do you think dinosaurs so Hayes has been obsessed with ambulances like for as long as we can remember and we're pretty sure it started here because he was like just under two and there seems to be a disproportionate number of ambulances in Rome like we hear them we've heard two in the last seven minutes if anybody knows why let us know [Music] the pizza place we talked about just over yesterday that's closed their original location is here yeah just been given a taste I'm Gonna Fill This with wine oh you well it's a good job it's not for you is the Wyatt cold no no so red red please these places legendary you can bring your own plastic drugs and get wine we don't have a plastic jug because we've been traveling with this for 18 months now we're gonna get it filled up with one okay medium okay yeah [Music] quality because it's free yeah in the water is different price I mean I wish we had laughing I wish we had two bottles because I mean we didn't do that last time we just we just saw it we never did it and now I'm like laughing what a we could fly a kite with our shoes off bus on the Boombox where they're never too hot little breeze is all I need and after the races watching fly like a spaceship you're taking me places to stay hiding complaints to be splurged and we took a like 10 to 12 Euro taxi to Parco de cafarella I thought there was going to be sheep here apparently there's sheep somewhere in this park beautiful day it's lovely and we've got our pizza you have to eat pizza while you're in Rome and I must say you should not be a fan of Roman Pizza I love pizza from Naples but it's grown on me the thing about Roman Pizza it's like the pizza is like the base the pizza bread and there's all different toppings on it and then you they like slice it up and you buy it based on the weight I think um but we got spin you around to this lovely park with no sheep but lots of sheep poop right yes yes so maybe they're around somewhere okay we've got a beautiful sausage and mushroom we got a potato and artichoke uh we got a margarita for Hazy and then we got this one which is [Music] yeah you've got more anyway and basil Cheers Cheers [Music] good evening this evening we're staying local we're in the area where our Airbnb is this time which is pineto and for an I guess this is an aperitivo we've come to a little bar restaurant called uh rosti which we have been through before and we came back to it because there's a play area that we were hoping some kids would be at and there are so Haze is occupied I was having a hard time deciding between it's laughing at me I was having a hard time deciding between an aperol Spritz and a Negroni and then I remember well I saw it on the menu espaliato and negroniato with Prosecco in it and so I'm gonna have my very first speliato sorry I'm also making sure that Haze doesn't fly off the sea salt because there's a bunch of big kids that are making me so nervous so good oh she was right he got the classic Italian mojito Okay so I feel like I have to put this note in here because similarly last night where we showed up at a restaurant that said it opened at 6 30 which we thought was weird and they couldn't see this because they were fully booked but also because they don't open till eight we actually came physically to this place we're gonna eat it's uh and made a reservation today for seven and we just showed up and they're like no we don't open till eight and feet asked her like three times so just keep that in mind when dining out in Rome it's eight o'clock now we got in and this is Trattoria pinata I think we came around 2015 and it was called or something and we came here because Anthony Bourdain had been here we're not sure if it's the same place is still delicious uh and if you're watching all of our videos you will have seen this in the one where we travel from India because we came here as our first stop but we wanted to come back because we haven't yet had any of the Roman costumes all right I've got the carbonara here [Music] for you all right guys phenomenal all right and then we also got the uh the grease yeah right that's the alligator classic no SketchUp happy oh sorry catch up Pepe [Music] you guys got tripe meatballs and tomato sauce and you wouldn't know it was tried I think crepe is a very Roman thing they also had on
