[Applause] table my evidence of the waterworks the ropes used to climb down this steeper part here heading down to the creek that way [Applause] so making our way down series of ropes coming down this kind of steep part pretty helpful slick mud almost down to the creek level and then we'll be over on the old bench cut road that leads to the tunnels [Applause] next to the bottom heading over to the bench cut road now these are poles where they would have put the dynamite just like in the bed in mine blast this bench cut out of the way it seems to be the road right here got some more over here is too we got the opening of the first town just right there pretty crazy there was used to be a bench cut road that Water Works operation trucks would have roll over down this landslides and fallen trees first time I read up there thank you the first tunnel now and what they were trying to do here is deliver water through pipeline to Oregon City and that area over here at the Clackamas River right now we're southwest of Estacada Will's making his way out to the other side here on the other side can see more of the bench cutting here where they blast their way some of the mountain and the road would have been straight through and it's all completely overgrown with trees and vegetation run up on another landslide section here making our way down to the creek level we're crossing over that bridge soon yeah this is more of that bench cut Road and see right there and this landslide has just completely blocked it in this section fallen trees these trees have fallen really recently in the last couple of years they're all burned up [Music] and would have fallen from up there down here at the bottom on this Ridge almost and bridge will be somewhere over there around to the south where Clackamas River we're gonna be leading melanie's Creek we've been walking alongside this whole time [Music] and more tunnels down here creek level a concrete structure go gently deep some metal and it's probably like a water collection in a pipe coming out of here in fact there might have been doors these slits at one point this might have been water the other side can't really see the ground down there there's metal bars and stuff looks like something from Jurassic Park under this and that little collection of things are big pipes [Applause] I'm a there's some thick brush part on the back at the bench cut [Applause] our pipe right here the cast-iron [Applause] and with this looks like another collection type tink [Applause] really overground so that the posts would have outlined it and just inside those bushes there's a little lever a little pole down there is where the water would have come in and out [Applause] looks like another water at collection or water control area made out of wood though see the wood side it's almost like an abandoned mine with the Timbers and then the shoring on the side [Applause] there's more equipment looks like a tank of some kind and then this not sure where this would have been but it has these wheels on so the rolled on something it's kind of hard to figure out what all these artifacts are they're all thrown around in the forest here it's another piece of pipe right there [Applause] so we're coming up on the bridge here [Applause] barely make make it up on foot [Applause] same pipe pipe ends of this valve doubt it can still turn it probably rested we got a rock wall man made right here it's really pouring rain now but we're making our way up to the main waterfall might not be able to see the Lower Falls yeah these are pretty big raindrops going on right now well why are you soaked might as well keep going you can see the waterfall just over here to my left turn up on the log bridge [Applause] the big cable anchor it into the rock here would have stabilized the bridge rockfall over here [Applause] [Music] this is what's left of it one of the logs is falling away this is more of that same pipe going into the tunnel across you got Clackamas balls over there in the distance you can see the other the continuing tunnel over there - it actually goes up to the very top of the waterfall standing on a log bridge little ravine down below table definitely not be a good idea to cross this right now that tree in a way poor Nina here you can see the pipe and the waterfall in the background there's much a cables hanging from the pipe so since the log bridge is not possible super dangerous just come around here at the top of this little ravine see the log ridges right there it's a little short detour and head up into the next tunnel [Applause] so we are on the other side type wheels over there and make his way across you can see the log that fell down there used to be three logs I'm sure there were tons of boards for cross beams this is how they used to build bridges nearly 100 years ago just straight trees and then put some boards over it some valve with some kind on the pipe [Applause] we here at the end of that tunnel these logs that have fawn they're all more of the burned trees another view of the waterfall we're getting closer up to it and once we're through that these next two tunnels they'll deliver us to the top of the waterfall okay the next short tunnel here about 30 feet long see a really steep and alongside of it a little bit of water coming out of that way up there in the center frame there's a piece of pipe over there for some reason see you in here walking on top of the pipe buried under all this heading up to that last tunnel just up ahead this is the final section of tall where you reach the top of the waterfall and barely see the end of it this one looks to be about 300 feet or so these little platforms or looks like it would have held stairs yeah it can see some wood right there so the owner Ben stairs in here at one point but it's long been rotted away Singh Kham jagged the rocks are on the bottom here different than that tunnel floor any other ones I said it probably didn't drive trucks do this one but I made this a walking path it's pretty easy to walk them even with all the stairs down see some planks here there's the bearing the end of the tunnel here it's super quiet in here you can't even hear the waterfall which is just right outside they're doing a lot of work back then to get all these sections of pipe up in here and connect it and they do have concrete foundations every 10 feet or so now it all just sits here forgotten just like an abandoned mine there's little alcoves cut cut off to the side store materials and stuff and you can hear the waterfall now since we're near the end looks like there's another little valve up ahead this tree probably wouldn't have been here when this tunnel was being used and see that roots bring outside concrete foundation at the end of the tunnel here climbing out will be top of the waterfalls just over there that's down in the tunnel Valve's [Music] we're not going to head that way because we are here at the top of the waterfall this is as far as we're gonna go today and you'll see what it looks like up there and then we're gonna head back down this looks like a little up there there's a damn foundation around the over there at the top Clackamas Falls really get much closer all these rocks are pretty slick right here and head back down so we just came down from that on top of the waterfall looking down this way you can see the tunnel the second one goes through to the log bridge over there just around the corner so just cool to see all the effort these people went through blasting their way up through this mountainside to get to the top of the waterfall in order to divert water back to Lord and say [Applause]
