you wake up to your alarm snooze a couple of times to get a few more minutes of sleep in until you eventually have to wake up and get ready in a rush to go to work sounds familiar well in today's video i'm going to give you the tools to get rid of this type of behavior what's up guys today's video is about the book the 5 am club written by leadership expert robin sharma the lessons from this book will provide you with the knowledge and inspiration you need to break free from your constant procrastination and take ownership of your life so without further ado let's dive into the eight most crucial lessons from the 5 a.m club 1. the exhilaration of getting up early 5am is the moment of least distraction most human glory and greatest peace the tranquility you will experience by waking up in a world that has yet to start moving is priceless and i'm sure you're thinking 5 am are you crazy that's the middle of the night i will still be exhausted but trust me the opposite will be the case by waking up before everyone else you will feel the thrill of taking control over your life and getting things done i used to wake up at eight quickly get ready for work and start work by nine am at the end of the day i would feel frustrated because i didn't get as much work done as i would have liked and i was only left with little time for myself in the evening and the next day would be the same story all over again by joining the 5am club i experienced much more time for myself waking up early suddenly became something to look forward to between five and eight am you have the opportunity to get started on your most critical tasks of the day without any interruptions or distractions use this time to get some deep work in if you spend this time wisely you will be able to get more work done in a day than you could ever imagine two the first and last hour of the day are crucial the tone of your whole day will be set by how you spend the very first hour of the day that's why it's essential to spend this time wisely many people wake up and immediately grab their phone to look at their messages browse social media or read the news and at night before going to sleep it's the same type of ritual this behavior causes our minds to be filled with information often useless and even harmful our brain needs to work hard to process all this information and so you lose essential brain capacity for some critical tasks instead of grabbing your phone first thing when you wake up or spending an hour on it before you go to sleep use the essential first and last hour of the day for reflection learning and progress devote the first 1 hour to 90 minutes of your day to concentrate on your most essential assignments this is when you have the most incredible energy attention and willpower before all those other distractions sneak in use the last hour of the day to reflect on your day think about the lessons you have learned or things you are grateful for this will help you ease your mind and improve your sleep so that you will wake up more energized in the morning 3. the 20 20 20 formula is the way to success the 20 20 20 rule entails that you should spend 20 minutes on three highly valuable activities the first activity should be exercising it may not always feel like it but moving is the first thing our body needs in the morning according to research our cortisol levels the stress hormones in our bodies are highest in the morning by going for a run or going to the gym in the morning you will quickly lower your cortisol levels and you will start your day feeling less on edge and more at ease and of course by exercising regularly you will keep your body and mind fit the next 20 minutes you should spend on reflection and meditation the peace you find this early at 5am in the morning will make room for more inspiration than you thought possible spend this time writing in your journal focus on what you want to get out of the day ahead and meditate to be in a good state of mind for the day to come finally for the last 20 minutes make time to learn use this time to read an insightful book or listen to a podcast from a great leader learn to fall in love with improving yourself by gaining knowledge each day the goal is to keep learning reflecting on mistakes and evolving as a continuous process every day you should grow and aspire to be a better version of yourself 4. a healthy sleep schedule should be your top priority nowadays we are experiencing a ferocious worldwide sleep recession people are increasingly sliding into a state of sleep deprivation this is because we frequently link achievement and hard work with the idea of staying up all night and pushing our bodies to their limits however this is not the best way to achieve success it is in fact the worst by pushing ourselves to our limits and depriving ourselves from sleep our bodies and brains will function at a much lower rate to keep our productivity at a high rate it is vital to maintain a healthy sleep cycle sleep is essential for our mental and physical health waking up at 5am sounds really early but if you go to bed by 10 and wake up at 5 you will still get 7 hours of sleep and if you need a little nap during the day go for it napping isn't just for the lazy it is a good way to reward yourself for getting a lot of work done a 20-minute power nap improves cognitive processes can help us overcome sleep deprivation and offer us the energy boost we need to carry on five continuous small improvements can yield spectacular results whether you wake up 15 minutes earlier every day or add five minutes to your workout these small improvements will add significant changes to your life over time taking on a new habit takes time so be patient and slowly build this new habit into your life begin small by making one little change at a time from there slowly build and wake up a little earlier each time if you usually wake up at 7 30 start waking up at 7 15 next week and it's 7 the week after that and so on if you can just try to improve one percent each day these small improvements will turn into great results over time all change is difficult at first messy in the middle and beautiful at the end six our technological addiction is robbing us of our creative potential our cell phones have essentially become extensions of our arms while this allows us to contact a family member or obtain vital information at the touch of a button our reliance on these devices is causing more harm than good as we regularly turn to technology for amusement instead of undertaking deep introspective work on one subject at a time addiction to a distraction becomes the death of our creative creation we are wasting time by scrolling mindlessly through social media feeds and entertainment news when instead we could be spending that precious time on creating our dream lives challenge yourself to put your phone in a different room one hour before you go to bed and grab it one hour after waking up in the morning you will be amazed by how much extra things you can get done in this time seven we have been brainwashed by society it's so easy to follow the guided path of society the path that everyone takes society's evolution has led us to assume that we will fail if we don't fit into particular systems if you don't go to college and get a degree you will have slim chances of being successful if you take that nine to five job you will have security for the rest of your life this is what most people get taught by school systems parents friends and so on however every single person's life is unique and shaped by their own life experiences and circumstances therefore you should always decide for yourself what your path to a happy successful life entails it might be a little scary but dare to choose the alternative path who cares if people think you're crazy waking up at five in the morning if you want to be like the top five percent stop acting like the 95 percent and finally lesson eight the importance of establishing a good life balance most self-development books focus on mindset they argue that optimistic thoughts are a crucial factor in obtaining success however they forget about three other essential factors for finding the perfect life balance robin sharma refers to these factors as interior empires which are health set heart set and soul set healthset refers to our physical health being in a good physical shape helps you get ahead in life by having more energy less stress and being happier overall heartset emphasizes the importance of emotional stability and well-being it is crucial to your success that you are able to express yourself and process emotions in a healthy manner and lastly soul set this refers to our spirituality the ability we have to connect with ourselves because only by truly knowing ourselves who we are what we value why we act how we act we can know what we want to become and achieve in life well there you have it guys the most important takeaways from the book the 5 am club this book teaches us that by waking up at five gives you the time and peace to get some deep focused work in without any distractions the way you spend this crucial time in the morning determines how the rest of your day will plan out so are you going to join the 5 a.m club from now on let me
