Jhin is one of my favorite spirits for mixing cocktails because it pairs well with so many different flavors and it's really fun to experiment with and I've been getting a lot of requests these days for simple cocktails that just require ingredients you might find around your house so here I'm gonna make five dead simple gin cocktails we're the only alcoholic ingredient is gin and the rest are things that you might have in your pantry in your fridge or a short trip to the local market here I'm using a dry and aromatic gin but if you want to see me do a similar video but with a different spirit just let me know in the flippity-flop below first up we are doing the classic gin sour template the guilt to make this cocktail and a few of the other cocktails in this video you're gonna need to make some simple syrup which is basically just sugar water and making this at home couldn't be easier and just grab yourself a saucepan and add about a cup of sugar and then add the same amount of water in this case another cup and then just gently heat that on low and stir it around until all the sugar dissolves and that should keep for at least a month in the fridge all right so now we're gonna grab our shaker and add 3/4 of an ounce or about 22 mils of our simple syrup and then another 3/4 of an ounce or 22 mils of fresh lime juice try to keep it fresh here guys all right now let's take our gin for a spin here and we're gonna add 2 ounces or 60 mils into the glass and that is it for your classic gimlet but with just a few simple ingredients this really is a blank canvas and a great opportunity to experiment with some other herbs berries or other vegetables you have lying around so you could throw some mint in here and then it becomes a Southside cocktail muddle some celery or some basil or some berries whatever you want channeling your inner Bob Ross and get a little crazy here after that we're gonna add about 4 cubes of ice and shake for about 15 seconds it's worth noting that the original spec for this cocktail in the savoy cocktail book back in 1930 called for the use of a lime cordial as opposed to fresh lime juice and simple syrup back in the 19th century the lime cordial was meant to help serve the citrus for the British Navy since we aren't trying to solve that problem today there's really no reason to use Rose's lime juice or anything like that all right once this drink has been properly chilled and diluted we're gonna double strain it into a chilled coupe glass like this now you have the gimlet a simple three ingredient cocktail let's give it a taste and that's just delicious clean simple refreshing not very complex but super well-balanced if you're looking for a vehicle to try out some ingredient lying around your house this is the cocktail to triumph next up we have another simple three ingredient cocktail the bee's knees the star of this show is your honey syrup which is basically a simple syrup made with honey instead of raw sugar the reason we need to turn the honey into a syrup is because it's too thick and viscous to work with in cocktails so we're gonna add equal parts honey and water into a saucepan and gently heat and stir until it is combined don't allow it to boil and again store that in the fridge for up to a month okay this is gonna be a very similar spec we're going to start with 3/4 of an ounce or 22 mils of our honey syrup and instead of lime juice we're gonna use lemon juice another 3/4 of an ounce or 22 mils let's get our second gin work out for the day and add 2 ounces or 60 mils into the shaker glass and just like with the gimlet right now would be an opportunity to play with some ingredients you might have lying around like some ginger be great to muddle in here some lemongrass or some thyme find freedom on this cocktail Candice after that we're again gonna shake with ice for about 15 seconds a little bit of history here this cocktail was a prohibition-era drink likely designed to mask the flavor of poor quality bathtub gin the bee's knees of course is classic Prohibition era slang meaning the best as in hey the giggle water at this juice joint is the bee's knees sorry and then just like with the gimlet we're gonna double strain this into a chilled coupe and the proteins and the honey are actually gonna give it a bit more of a foamy texture and then we're just gonna cut a twist of lemon Express the oils over the top and drop it in all right the bee's knees this drink is so simple and so delicious I mean if you like honey really shines in this drink and the lemon just rounds it out perfectly honestly this is one of my favorites and so easy to make it home alright let's introduce a little protein into the mix with one of my favorite egg white cocktails the clover club so for this one you're gonna need a handful of raspberries as well as one large egg and we're gonna incorporate this into our standard sour template starting with 3/4 of an ounce or 22 mils of our simple syrup balance that out with another 3/4 of an ounce or 22 mils of fresh lemon juice grab your favorite gin fluence err and add 2 ounces or 60 mils into the glass now some clover club recipes call for raspberry syrup we're gonna simplify things and just toss in five whole raspberries again we're gonna add 4 cubes of ice and shake this for about 15 seconds and that's gonna help extract some of the raspberry juice into the drink now this drink is a pre-prohibition cocktail dates back to the late 19th century named after a group of Philadelphia gentlemen who had a men's club called in the clover club we're using the reverse dry shake method here where we're gonna shake it with ice and then strain everything out back into the shaker class now that everything's been chilled and diluted we're gonna add in our egg white so just kind of play with this back and forth until you drop in just egg white now we're gonna dry shake with just that egg white and that's gonna give us a nice creamy texture while the Salmonella risk is quite low if you're worried about that you can use pasteurized eggs or even chickpea brine which is called aqua fava once you've shaken that up for about 15 seconds there's no need to strain just free pour that right into it to class this technique of reverse dry shake is gonna yield a really nice head of foam we'll do a little time-lapse here to wait for it to settle and then we're gonna garnish that with a couple raspberries on a pic alright the beautiful clover club cocktail let's give it a taste this drink is so damn good something about the gin and the botanicals play so well with the berries and again that egg white gives it such the kree mouthfeel there's a reason why they call this the gin drink for people who don't like gin next up is probably my favorite of the bunch Gordon's breakfast we're gonna do some muddling in this one so take a lime cut it into six wedges and throw them into a shaker glass and then add three fourths of an ounce or about 22 mils of simple syrup now this drink is typically served as a brunch cocktail and it calls for four dashes of Cholula hot sauce now four dashes is probably about the equivalent of one bar spoon but it's really to taste so measure that out as you like and pour it in the glass I wouldn't go too crazy with this otherwise you'll overpower the rest of the flavors and another one of those savory flavors here is werster sure sauce calls for two dashes or in this case about half a bar spoon into the glass then toss in three or four thin slices of cucumber and call me Jennifer Aniston cuz after you drink this we're gonna be friends two ounces or 60 mils of you guessed it Gordon's alright now for the fun part grab your squishin stick and we're really gonna try to extract all of that lime juice muddled in some of that cucumber but not pulverize it too much in retrospect I feel like I should have added the lime wedges last so they were a little bit easier to get access to now the recipe calls for about eight cubes worth of crushed ice we're going to throw those into a Lewes bag and just smash them up dump it all into your shaker glass we're gonna shake that up for about six seconds now this drink actually comes from the now shuttered milk and honey bar in New York and is a variation on another drink called the Gordon's cup which does not include the hots or Worcester sauce all right once that's shaken up or it's gonna free pour that into a chilled double old-fashioned glass and then garnish with a bit of salt and some freshly ground pepper maybe a little more than that mate all right Gordon let's see what you got for us here I gotta say this drink is phenomenal it is so full of flavor and hits on all the senses it's got some mami it's got some spiciness some sour some sweet all that with fresh cucumber I love it and finally what better way to close out your gin fuel day than the bubbly French 75 we're gonna start with our shaker glass 1/2 ounce or 15 mils of fresh lemon juice balance that with another 1/2 ounce or 15 mils of simple syrup someone should check the genes-- Book of World Records cuz we're dropping in one ounce or 30 mils add some ice and we're gonna shake that for about 15 seconds all right now the origin of the French 75 is a little murky like most cocktails but it was first printed in the 1927 giving it the distinction of being the only classic cocktail born in America during Prohibition once that's been chilled and diluted we're gonna double strain that into a chilled champagne flute I'm just gonna open some sparkling wine after drinking for cocktails what could go wrong oh yeah well once we settle down we're gonna gently top off our cocktail with about 4 ounces or 120 mils of sparkling wine then we're just gonna cut a lemon peel Express the oils over the top and drop it in okay if the classic French 75 and what can I say it's super refreshing well balanced it's like a leveled up celebratory drink and named after a French artillery gun this one does pack a punch it's why they call it the most powerful drink in the world hope you all enjoyed that if you want to see me do other videos like
