The 300ZX Turbo- Finishing What He Started

this car came to us about a year ago it was missing the engine and transmission in a lot of other parts we've been working on it since then to bring it back to its former state and help build it and make it better than it's ever been my name is Scott Taylor with Z Shack here in Houston Texas while we work on is the 300zx z32 platform as a business owner I would say it's a horrible business plan to specify in one specific vehicle that hasn't been made for 25 plus years I mean our clientele our customer base is diminishing it's not increasing but I don't care it's a business that's based on passion and love for the car there will always be us z32 freaks that love this car so this car used to belong to a guy named Thomas burns while we've never met him personally we've had some correspondence and he had talked to us about his hopes and dreams for his car my name is Jason Davis and Thomas is one of my friends the car was everything he had dreams of one day driving the car with his brother he was always talked about one to drive the back roads he would talk about one to feel what the throttle felt like it like any enthusiast he wanted to know what the car was all about he loved it and he just wanted to enjoy it just like any other enthusiasts this most likely meant a lot to somebody like Thomas as I believe he was a lot like me or or any car guy out there we have a love-hate relationship with our vehicles and I believe that he had the fever you know the sea fever and he wanted to to make this car everything he had envisioned it to be [Music] Thomas passed away in his sleep it was a sudden loss for his family and friends think about if it was one of your friends you know one day you wake up and next thing you know he's not there well you knew his dream was to get his car done and enjoy it let alone take his brother out and have a good time with the car what do you do it's kind of one of those things like do you just let the car go or do you see hey community is there anything y'all are willing to do the cars in the middle of a build what's gonna happen and next thing you know I'm throwing ideas today all the other guys and I'm like do you think it would be possible to get everybody on board you know maybe get the car done first family did I knew what the car meant everyone was just receptive I mean we had a call people that donated money that went to Z Shack we had parts vendors like multiple shops that were willing to just get on board and go you know gung-ho on this car when when I knew the car was gonna get built and I knew the amount of detail that Z shag wanted to get involved with the car I knew it was gonna be right you know when you have a company I drives from Texas to Florida and they were able to pick up the car and they took it all the way back to Texas named another shop in the country that would not just go get a car but build a car for someone so when I heard about the story of Thomas he had some undiagnosed heart problem that took him in his sleep one night and so I related to that very well since I have heart problems myself and we we decided to help the family out with with you know fulfilling his dreams for him [Music] Thomas had some goals in mind for the car he wanted to make it better you know restore it and prove it he had some specific horsepower goals and such that he was looking for we have a set recipe so to speak to make certain power goals here at Z Shack we tried to take the parts that he had and changed out the parts that he didn't to be able to get the car to a lofty goal where we're shooting for 750 horsepower or more because I believe that's the area that the Thomas was looking to be in I started from a fresh block that we supplied went through and had a foley machine it's a low compression engine running eight and a half to one compression high school Pistons scat rods fully built here in house GTX 2867 turbos 1200 CCS side feed injectors from a u.s. flex fuel capable setup on it so it'll be able to run on gasoline or e85 or any blend in between custom tune by me here at Z Shack we have done many builds with the same setup we have cars making upwards of 850 horsepower with this particular turbos we see guys you know making anywhere from 600 horsepower up to upwards of 800 horsepower with stock internals while they might not last a long time like that they do hold up very well in that five to six hundred horsepower area on completely stock engines fully built they can make endless amounts of power this car is not completed yet we just recently got our run in a few days ago we are working on doing the engine we're in procedure and then we will put it on the dyno and see what we can make with her the community outreach that came behind it was amazing you hear about other car communities doing you know fundraisers and that kind of thing but to actually see a community get behind a build for a good cause was amazing there were many members of this community that donated parts and a lot of members that donated money it shows that even people that might not have a lot of money to give away still wanted to help finish this car for the family I think it means a lot to his family too to have something of his that he worked on himself I personally have children and I have hopes that when I'm gone that they they have my cars too to remember me by and in the future I think lots of car people build their their dreams and their cars and hope that you know their family or their children can one day enjoy that and remember them while they're driving them Thomas wasn't an awesome guy he was super down-to-earth he was genuine he would take time out of his own day and help people on their own course if he wasn't a selfish person he was a good person that you wanted to talk with it out we have plans for Thomas burns brother Tim burns to fly in meet with all of us hang out for a little while get him reacquainted with the car and he plans to drive the car back home so it's important to us to see this project through til its end and be able to present it back to his brother Tim and the family so they can enjoy the car in the way that Thomas wanted to be able to enjoy [Music] [Music] [Applause] you
