this has to be the best wide receiver room in college football history the 2021 Ohio State Buckeyes had five absolute stud wide receivers all on the same roster the top Target for CJ Stroud was Jackson Smith in jigba who had 1600 yards then both Garrett Wilson and Chris alave ended up with around 1 000 but there were also two more guys buried on the depth chart that just had 1 000 yard seasons Marvin Harrison Jr and Amica abuka we may never see another wide receiver core that good again but just how good were they in Columbus and how'd they fare in the pros we'll start with the oldest of the bunch at a ripe 23 years old who's still six months younger than me Chris salave coming out of Mission Hills High School in San Marcos California Chris alave was rated a three-star recruit and just the top 400 prospects in the 2018 recruiting class as a freshman at Ohio State a lot they didn't see much action and despite playing in seven games he caught just 12 passes for under 200 yards and three touchdowns after the season Terry maclaurin and Paris Campbell went to the NFL draft yes they had both of those future Pro hideouts too that left aave with a bigger role in the offense in 13 games he recorded 48 receptions for 840 yards and 12 touchdowns he was named 13 all Big Ten his junior year is probably his best season in college he put up 730 yards and seven touchdowns on 50 receptions it may not seem like a super mind-blowing year but the season was cut short due to covid and he put up those numbers in only seven games his performance led to him being named First Team all Big Ten that was his third year at OSU and it made sense for him to form go his senior year and head to the 2021 draft but he stayed for one more year at Ohio State and it definitely worked out he caught 65 passes for nearly 950 yards and 13 touchdowns for the second time he was named First Team all Big Ten going into the 2022 draft a Lobby was a top receiver the Saints ended up trading up to the 11th pick for him his rookie season started off great in week three he caught nine passes for 147 yards ultimately he finished the year with 72 receptions for 1050 yards and four touchdowns he was rightfully named to the all rookie team now this season he should be even better especially with the addition of Derek Carr of course olave wasn't the only OSU wide receiver drafted last year and he wasn't even the best one Garrett Wilson just won offensive rookie of the year but before that he was a five-star recruit and the 20 ranked player in the 2019 class despite going to Lake Travis High School in Austin Texas Wilson was born in Columbus Ohio and moved to Texas at 11. so when it came to making a decision of where to go to school he not only went to a football Powerhouse but he also went back home technically his freshman year Wilson played in 13 games and had 30 receptions for 430 yards and five touchdowns then going into his second year Wilson was moved to the slot it turned out to be the right move in the first four games of the Season Wilson caught 31 passes for 513 yards in four touchdowns that four game stretch made him the second Ohio State receiver to have four consecutive games with more than a hundred plus receiving yards the only other to do so is Chris Carter who had five in 1986. Wilson finished the season with 43 receptions 720 yards and six touchdowns and only eight games due to the pandemic he was named First Team all Big Ten then as a junior Wilson achieved his first 1000 yard season he had 70 receptions 1050 yards and 12 touchdowns and ended up being named second Team all day 10. following the season he had a tough decision to make would he declare for the draft or go back for another season like a Lobby had done the year before well as we know now he ultimately decided to forgo his senior year and go to the league he was drafted with the 10th pick by the Jets and funny enough the next two picks were fellow Ohio State teammates at 11 olave went and then at 12 was Jameson Williams who went to the Lions if you remember Jameson Williams was a beast for Alabama in 2021 but he struggled to see the field for two years at Ohio State before transferring out as a rookie Garrett Wilson went off he had 83 receptions for 1100 yards and four touchdowns he was named to the all rookie team as I said he was the offensive rookie of the year next year he should be even better and not just because of his development but the Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers it will be a pretty big step up from Joe Flacco Mike White and of course Zach Wilson who started most of the Jets games last year now the most recent drafty out of that 2021 OSU wide receiver core is Jackson Smith in jigba coming out of Rockwell High School in Texas Smith and jigba was a rated five-star recruit and the 29th player in the class as a freshman he didn't do much he only caught 10 receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown but he came to play in 2021 in week 9 against Nebraska Smith and jigba caught 15 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown the performance set the single game School record for receptions and was the second most receiving yards in a single game in school history but that didn't last long because of the final game of the season the Rose Bowl Smith and jigba had another 15 reception game with three touchdowns and 347 yards which broke not only the single game School record but also the FBS Bowl record he finished the year with 95 receptions 1600 yards and nine touchdowns it earned him the honor of being third Team all big 10 and a third team All-American then his 2021 season was very disappointing a hamstring injury caused him to play in just three games and he caught five passes for about 45 yards after the season he declared for the draft it was taken 20th overall by the Seahawks I think Seattle's a great fit for him and the opportunity to learn under Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf should be really really good for his development however I wouldn't expect any crazy stats the Seahawks do already have two good wide receivers but he's gonna carve out a good role in the slot now you wouldn't expect it but the best recruit in this video is the guy that is definitely the least known Amica abuka abuka was a five-star recruit and listed as the 10th overall player in the 2021 class out of DuPont Washington he didn't see much action as a receiver his freshman year he only caught nine passes for about 200 yards however he got some reps in a kick returner he returned 20 kicks for 580 yards then Wilson and olave left for the draft in The Following Season just three games in Smith and jigba got hurt which meant a really big role in the offense for ibuka he did exactly what he was brought to Columbus to do and in 13 games he caught 74 passes for 1150 yards and 10 touchdowns next year ibuka is going into his junior year and he's probably gonna forego his senior year to go to the NFL draft of course abuka is super overlooked and that's because he has to share the field with one of the biggest names in college football Marvin Harrison Jr no surprise he is the son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison who played 13 Seasons with the Colts and is maybe a top five receiver of all time so I guess it just runs in the family coming out of St Joseph's Prep School in Philly Junior was rated a four-star recruit route and the 97th overall player in the 2021 class as a freshman he only caught 11 passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns however Wilson and olave ended up opting out a Rose Bowl which meant Harrison got a chance to kind of give a taste of what was coming and he did just that he caught six passes for 70 yards and had three touchdowns expectations in 2022 were high and he delivered he finished sixth in the country with 1 263 receiving yards and second with 14 touchdowns plus his 77 receptions were the third most in the Big Ten he was named First Team all big 10 and a unanimous All-American even though he can't enter the draft until next year Harrison showed up to Ohio State's pro day and caught passes from CJ Stroud who ultimately went second overall to the Texans Harrison was great too one Scout even said that it's like window shopping at a Lamborghini dealership for the model that doesn't even come out until next year so make sure to be on the lookout for Marvin Harrison Jr and a make next year because they might just be one of the scariest receiver Duos we've seen at the college level but honestly you could have said the same thing about really any of the Buckeyes recent wide receiver groups it is absolutely insane that all five of these guys were legitimately on one team at the same time honestly it's hard to blame Jameson Williams for transferring foreign
