[Music] what's up guys we're back with another build video this time for rm24 our 1972 Chevy K10 shortbed truck we've given away trucks before at R mod but never a lifted 4x4 truck let's go into a little details on this truck with the sparza and go through it yeah so starting um basically on the exterior visually this truck is really cool to look at it's black it's got that beautiful tuxedo black paint job um like you said we've never given away a 4x4 truck uh they're very popular I love the way a short bed 4x4 C10 looks uh and this one checks all the boxes we went through a lot of stuff on this truck to really dial it in and make it a good Resto mod um starting at the front this truck exterior wise there's nothing changed about uh like like trim packages appearances there's not a lot of like custom metal fabrication work because they nailed it so good from the factory uh where it really shines as like the mechanical stuff that we upgraded however there is some stuff that we did kind of just for safety uh one of our go-to things is to upgrade the lighting so this has LED headlights um these are actually fil brand headlights with a nice high low beam um they have kind of a horizontal bar look so they modernize a little bit the front end but still retaining the classic look just bringing the lighting up to Modern standards um going around the side of the truck you'll see this is a custom t so it has a lot of the upgraded trim package uh which includes like all the extra side moldings that you see uh these trucks were available in a ton of different trim packages this one happened to have upper and lower side moldings and it looks good on this truck it kind of breaks up that big broadside uh you see the custom 10 badges those are original we did something a little bit special with the badge below it so normally this truck has a badge that has an eight and then the number 350 which designates it's an 8 cylinder with a 350 cubic inch engine that has changed we'll talk a little bit more about that when we get under the hood but we did not have a 350 cubic inch engine anymore we did have eight cylinders still but we reached out to Evan CNC that's kind of our go-to for custom uh Billet CNC work and he did a really cool version of that same badge just with what we wanted to say so you know we kept the eight because it is still an eight CER but we put a little nice touch saying rm24 on it and we kind of paint matched it all we got rid of the 350 designation because we're not running that cubic inch displacement anymore should we just jump right into what we are running that way uh talk about let see I not okay and there is kind of a story behind the engine that's in here and kind of what our plans are going to be uh through the rest of the sweep sticks so right so we bought bought this truck and it has an LS engine in it um it was a vortek engine we were under the understanding that it was a 6 L engine it had 6 L covers on it and stuff um but we got into it and we realized this is not a 6 L this is a 5.3 um how could you tell so basically the way we were able to tell we were test driving it shaking down this truck trying to figure out ways to make it better um and the previous owner had installed a engine control system that just was enough to Snuff so right away we tapped our go-to fuel system uh you know our favorite our favorite partner to work with fitec uh we got one of their full ultimate LS kits on it and when we were starting to spec that out I started looking a little bit more at some of the engine details and we started taking stuff apart and we realized this is a 53 uh which is not a bad engine a 5.3 L engine is I mean it's carried it's carried a marican its back for a while I mean there's a lot of silver AOS doing a ton of work uh with that engine so it's no slouch but we had it stuck in our head that we wanted a 6 lit you know that's why we bought the truck cuz it had a 6 lit so we do have the ultimate LS kit on the 53 the engine runs great um especially with since we upgraded the FTE but we got it stuck in our hand we want a 6 lit so we do have a 6 lit that we're going to be swapping into this truck probably soon after we shoot this video uh but visually it's going to look the same you know those LS engines I you know visually on the outside they're all the same uh and we're going to be able to still use our ultimate LS kit on it uh we're just Chang some of the parameters uh that's the nice thing about the user friendliness of ftec you can swap an engine you know put your same system back in update it and you're good to go so we'll be doing that but yeah so that's what we got in the engine bay a good reliable LS a truck engine it's going to make plenty of torque it's going to move this thing down the road no problem um behind that we have a turbo 350 transmission that's been all gone through um so it's all beefed up it's up to the task of handling it uh the only thing that we talk about sometimes is adding overdrive but in this case with this truck with the gear setup we have and the tire size we have this thing cruises down the road no problem with the current setup and the three-speed transmission um and it's it's very strong it's a very Stout drivetrain uh although this truck doesn't weigh much you're not going to have any problems with reliability I mean this is a tried and truee package uh with an upgraded LS engine so we've seen you take it Offroad and through its Paces it really gets the job done yeah it uh it almost pained me to take something this nice through the dirt and the dust and a and a mud puddle that you'll see um there was a lot of cleaning that happened after that uh but we just wanted to demonstrate you know it's not just a trailer Queen if you are so inclined you want to take this off uh you know it's also not a rock crawler you know this thing's not a hardcore built off-road rig um those Vehicles end up being really one-dimensional this is just a really clean 4x4 truck with a lot of upgrades to make it more drivable and more usable and it does perform a little bit better than stock out there on the Trails um and going Offroad yeah I mean it's a symbol of true Americana these trucks have always done so much hard labor throughout their lives but this one has stood the test of time yeah yeah and that's one of the things why the short bed 4x4 configuration is pretty rare uh when these trucks were sold new the idea of buying a truck like this was that you needed to work this thing so ideally The Working Man wanted the 8ft bed you can fit a sheet of plywood in there um you can fit 2x4s in there just having more bed space was like a true working man's truck these were kind of seen when they were new as like kind of you know like little like show trucks you know what what was the use for a short bed really you know it to these days this is a normal configuration um things have changed a little bit um but it's a little bit rare to see it out of a ' 7s truck uh but I think it really looks cool and I think at this point this truck is so nice you're not going to be using this as an everyday work truck I mean you could I wouldn't recommend it it's it's so nice it's been like over restored I want to say to the point where this is better than new so uh with that being said that's kind of why uh the desirability and the Rarity of the short bed 4x4 configuration exists yeah you bring up a good point about not really wanting to take this thing rock crawling or really anywhere where it could get body damaged because the paint is just so nice it's so nice and we did add a little bit of a protective um it's like a paint protective film it's a real clear film but we did it up on the Rockers where the tires would kick up Rock chips and really chip up that black paint job we added a nice clear layer of that to just help preserve what this truck is um but yeah so speaking of it being a 4x4 and all that let's jump right into the suspension the wheels tires brakes that whole part of the truck yeah let's take a look so whoever wins this truck is probably going to want to know what kind of suspension wheel and tire package they're getting on this thing if they maybe plan to do some off-roading so what are we looking at here as Fara yeah we'll talk about some of the components so that you can formulate your own opinion of how capable this thing is um in my opinion if you really needed to this thing would be dang near Unstoppable um but I probably wouldn't push it that hard just because of how nice and how valuable these trucks are now but that being said the suspension has all been upgraded uh We've replaced all the leaf springs with lift leaf springs these trucks were never This Tall this has a 6-in lift uh so we're able to get a bigger tire in there um to complement the leaf springs it's all polyurethane bushings and Rancho Shocks uh We've added a steering stabilizer uh and then these tires these are Goodyear territory MTS really cool Tire um it's kind of a a middle of the road Tire as far as drivability but then the off-road capability is really there um these are 3157017 so in American measurements uh that's roughly a 35 in Tire I think technically they measure out to like a 34.8 or something like that yeah um but that's the way they designate the tire size so for all intents and purposes it's ring on 35 in good years um those are mounted to one of my favorite parts of the build really was uh we get to pick wheels and tires and it's such a personalized thing that you can be all over the map and you're never going to please everyone uh but I really liked how these trucks look with a Timeless Wheel and Tire combo um especially with off-road stuff as soon as you put a modern wheel on there you know it's going to kind of date the build um so we went with something that will never go out of style but in a modern size so these are black steel wheels like you would have seen probably originally on the truck but they're in a modern 17 by8 and that opens up availability of tires um and that's why we were able to go with the Goodyear Tire um but what we did is we did trim rings on it and then center caps and because these car these trucks I'm sorry have a locking uh hub assembly you need to be able to expose that and have access to it because it's a manual locking hub you get out uh you switch the Hub uh so when we were looking at center cap options most of the center caps even the original ones they have a Chevy logo right in the middle uh so once you cut that out to put the uh to put the cap over the locking hub well then you just have a plain cap in the front uh I'm kind of a tri five guy I have a 55 so right off the top of my head I thought okay well those those cars have the Chevy logos all around the outside and nothing in the middle so we went with a tri five Chevy Center Hub Cap uh and we cut out the center to accommodate the hubs um and that way you don't lose your bow tie on your hubc cap but you get a good classic look I think it ended up looking killer on this truck it fits well it's kind of a cool little unique touch that we added to the outside of the truck like I said we didn't go too extreme with changing anything we wanted it to look classic uh we just did a few little touches like that to bring it up um and then continuing on with the suspension same treatment in the rear Rancho Shocks lifted leaf springs um the axles are Dana 44 front axle uh and then the Chevy 10 bolt rear so these are rebuilt axles but what would have originally came with this truck um so a tried and truee package super reliable I know there's a lot of people out there that probably beaten the crap out of this combo and had good luck with it um so whatever you're going to do with this truck you know you're going to have a reliable drivetrain combo and the suspension um gets you a little bit higher up in the air gets you clearance for those 35s uh and I think it just looks cool I think it just looks right yeah it looks fantastic and it's basically a daily driveable lifted truck I mean it's got modern touches that make it a modern Road worthy vehicle but it's got the classic look so you have this awesome Chevy K10 that will get looks anywhere it goes 35s look right at home here uh it's easy to go to extreme and get a a lifted truck on 40-in tires you really sacrifice a lot of drivability at that point it's hard to get in and out of it it's hard to to park it you can't see anything it's hard to work on it I think we found a happy medium with the 35 and the 6-in lift it's kind of just a classic look um so that's what we went with and and it turned out good so you just mentioned that we installed fitec on this K10 which means there's some pretty big changes that happened to the fuel tank uh so take us through what you guys did here okay so yeah so this is the remnants of the old fuel system which had the tank in the cab with you uh behind the the seat basically it was just gas slashing around right by your butt um so a real popular thing is to get that out of there you know most trucks were like that back in the day there's better Solutions um so we went a tank Inc tank to move it back under the bed back towards the back of the truck and we used a f intank pump as well um and that really helps with the fuel injection uh and getting the the tank out of there is just a must on these trucks but what it left us with was a hole here for the original filler neck um so what we decided to do was we had a horn button from a steer steering wheel that was kind of the same shape and it actually matches the horn button that we have in there um so we decided to just make a bracket and plug it up with that so nice little touch um Chevy Chevy part and it cleaned up the look without having to you know get into some serious Bodywork of cutting and repainting and stuff uh this truck was already painted when we made that modification so this was a nice way to clean it up and it still retains the Vintage Vibe you know every time you get into one of these old trucks you would always see this uh so it's still there it's just uh it's cleaned up it's a design feature now um and back by that tank basically we moved it back here under the bed um and so it's a brand new tank back there and that feeds the fuel system all the way to the LS engine so we're back here in the rear we just talked about the uh gas tank got Rec relocated back here this bed is immaculate yeah so it's a brand new bed floor uh and it looks brand new it's all painted just as nice as the outside of the truck it's gloss black So Pro to protect that we put in a nice thick rubber floor mat um and that'll help you when you actually want to use the bed you're not going to scratch up the paint uh but it's still really nice and glossy under there um and then getting into the bed on the tailgate you have all the original Deluxe trim but it's all been replaced with brand new stuff so it just looks brand new um Factory style rear bumper but a brand new one uh same with the tail lights we didn't change like anything about how they look except the functionality of them now they are LEDs and they have uh sequential function to really get people's attention when you're signaling or you're on the brakes uh this a good safety feature and it looks kind of cool too yeah even the uh these ones here too right yeah even your reverse lights all LED now the one part we haven't talked about yet is the interior this truck has a bright red interior it looks good on the black uh so let's jump in there and talk about it yeah all right so a quick jump up in this thing close the door um so really there's a lot of little things on the inside of this truck as well it retains a lot of factory look but there's a lot of little upgraded things so right off the bat you'll notice this interior is bright red it's got this really cool hounds tooth inserts uh we added this classic console just for to have a nice armrest a cup holder it's something that you can take out really easily if you want to load more than two people in here uh but it's a really nice feature when you're driving it uh nice place to just rest your arm um the door panels are the deluxe door panels with with the filigree in them so it's just a knee original touch um all the glass that you look out of has been replaced in this truck brand new quarter windows so they function like really nice and tight with the seal uh everything's clear no scratches same thing with the windows brand new Regulators brand new glass um what else did we do so we did a chrome ashtray this has a classic auto sound stereo so you can connect to your Bluetooth but it still has a classic look to it um old Air Products AC so this is their whole control system this thing has really good AC and heat to keep you comfortable in here um right away the Driving Experience is added by this Momo California wheel uh this was like kind of a vintage looking wheel but it got a smaller size which makes the truck more comfortable uh the original wheel is really big uh since we have power steering you didn't need that big of a wheel uh and it's a nice classic looking wheel it's black leather with the stitching um through that steering wheel you're going to be looking at Dakota Digital RTX series gauges so this is one of their top-of-the-line gauges with a ton of neat features they're fully digital they're integrated into the ftec system um so you're getting real accurate engine measurements from everything uh but with a classic look and a lot of added features they have little screens that uh you can add like um warning lights shift points all kinds of neat stuff too uh where the factory cigarette lighter used to be um is now the dimmer knob for the gauges so kind of a neat feature there you can really like brighten up the gauges or turn them down if you want uh and we don't want anybody smoking in this truck anyway so we put it where the original cigarette lighter was um same thing moving on down brand new fresh red carpet uh and then we throw a nice set of floor mats in almost every vehicle we do makes it easier to keep everything clean we did a nice embroidered red uh Chevy logo uh the pedals are like deluxe trim pedals from this era of truck with the chrome trim um and this brake pedal you're basically this is tied into a power brake booster a willwood master cylinder and that's activating um the disc brakes on the front and the drum brakes on the rear um and then safety stuff we got the three-point belts so that's kind of a must these days three-point belts really help uh everything else has just been replaced so that it's like fresh and brand new as far as the visors the brackets the mirror um Everything You Touch as far as knobs column shifter it's all been replaced and then you have you know what makes it a 4x4 you have the stick shift to engage that MP 205 transfer case so although it's a very simple looking interior um a lot of thought went into some of the little stuff to keep it classic looking um but to make everything match to uh when we first got the truck everything was red there was no black accents on it so we wanted to tone it down a little bit and have a nice balance of the red and the black um so this is what we ended up with hope you like it okay so that about wraps it up we went through all the details of this truck tip to tail um so now you guys are real familiar with it uh and
