something I get asked all the time is how I create my artwork and what the program I use on my iPad is there's so many awesome features so user friendly one time $10 it's amazing there are so many options for brushes feels like you are drawing on paper or painting on a canvas it's totally different it makes me feel more like a true artist overall procreate is my life my true love sorry tan it's genuinely [Music] amazing I'm here to tell you that I could not recommend more procreate let me see what I can I'm trying to keep the confidential stuff a secret but whatever okay so this is procreate with all of my random things on it right now this is how I draw all of my artwork um I think traditionally a lot of like graphic design is done in Adobe Illustrator and I am pretty close to a literate when it comes to illustrator like I can draw a line or two procreate is so user friendly it took a while to catch on to but once I got it it just makes perfect sense to me basically you can create a canvas of any size it only creates raster art which means that it has pixels versus illustrator which you can make Vector art which is just kind of like a series of math problems so with Vector art you can blow up the design to any size that you want but the way that I get around sort of that issue with doing pixelized art or Raper art is I just start with a really big canvas size and people ask me all the time like what canvas size I use I generally do 5,000 by 5000 is pixels and I've gotten that printed pretty large and there's been no issues so super recommend doing all of your art on a very big canvas size in procreate you can choose your canvas size when you go to create a new piece of art with this little plus sign in the corner and then it saves all of your different canvas sizes so I have like a million you can do all kinds of different like size units too so you can do pixels which is what I do 5,000 x 5,000 is but you can also if you need to you can do like 11 by 14 in um so that way you know that's what that size will print to look like something to know is that as far as I'm aware procreate is only compatible with Apple products there's a pocket version that I have on my phone that I use for little things but the full version is available for iPad it's also amazing because it's only $10 they also have like a digital video animation Creator they just came out with and that one is I think like $20 but it's that's amazing because illustrator or Adobe suite is a monthly subscription and you just like can't have it unless you're paying monthly which is a huge bummer procreate one time $10 it's amazing like I cannot believe this amazing app is 10 bucks whatever it's awesome another huge advantage to procreate or just pixelized ART versus Adobe Illustrator is there are so many options for brushes so you can get a lot of different texture I would argue that the native brushes in illustrator are not as good they're not as realistic as they are for procreate but also pixelized art just gives you the option to use so much texture that you're never going to get with Vector so or at least currently as the technology stands so that's another huge plug for procreate but the biggest thing to me is that with procreate you just draw like you are drawing on a piece of paper it's like so easy um apple pencil huge fan I've had this one for years and years and it's amazing um whereas with illustrator it's like clicking clicking point to point and they have like the drawing tool and you can get like Wacom tablets where you can kind of draw um as if like you were drawing almost like a trackpad and then have that display on illustrator but it's not the same experience drawing on procreate feels like you are drawing on paper or painting on a canvas it's totally different like it's genuinely amazing there's so many awesome featur features of procrete like I would say the most significant bummer especially when compared to illustrator is that you can't draw like off of the canvas area so like when I draw this line it stops at the edge of the canvas versus on illustrator like this line would just continue but if you were to save the file it would just be the four corners of the canvas so that does make it hard and kind of you have to like play with it to make a repeating pattern on procreate which I have another video on if you want a tutorial but the nice thing is that you can use the edge of the canvas sort of as like a chopping tool so if you want to just like cut an image you can just use the edge which I do all the time so you get used to it um and it just it makes sense to me since I'm used to like physical art and this is a really good translation of that as I've mentioned procreate has so many features that you don't get with physical art obviously I'll mention a few of them one of the biggest ones is streamline which you'll see like my pen lags a little bit when I draw these like curvy lines um and that's not because the apple pencil is lagging the apple pencil is incredibly responsive it's because I have streamline on which basically Smooths out the line um and if I turn it down I'll show you what that looks like so it just keeps it from looking like really Jagged and weird it's really nice because if you are a '90s kid and you are familiar with Microsoft Paint you know you would draw a line and it would look all kinds of crazy wobbly and weird and streamline helps fix that it just really Smooths it out it does make it look more like a line that's in illustrator so you can choose whether or not you want a really organic look that's more shaky I've done that with my art before but most of the time especially with like lettering and writing I have the Streamline all the way up to 100% that's another thing is you can really customize the brushes on appropriate super easily so I have like for example you can see I have model line one model line one one and then I have um like three more versions of it as like a double line brush so I've just customized and created a lot of brushes for myself for whatever I need so that makes it super easy to get exactly the effect that you want with your brushes and I just love that another thing that that I am obsessed with with procrete that has broken my brain forever and ever is as I've been doing the undo tool so I draw a line I don't like it double tap it's gone triple tap it's back amazing obsessed to the point where I will literally be writing with a pen and pencil and I'll be just you know tapping the paper undo it's actually like a little bit awful like I feel like I'm an iPad kid which I am just I'm an iPad kid what can I say but um it's amazing it makes like the process of drawing so fast on procreate so um really it's just awesome and I love it whereas like on illustrator if you want to undo something you have to like keyboard shortcut it and you have to be you know doing something with your mouse hand and then it just doesn't feel like drawing at all so I'm not a fan so the other thing that I just couldn't live without in Pro create are the layers and this is something that is very much borrowed from Adobe Illustrator Photoshop all of that and you would never get on physical art but if you you know you're probably familiar but if you draw a line here and you want to draw another line but not have them actually intersect you can just create a new layer and then if I were to erase my red line it doesn't erase the black one because they're on separate layers separate planes of existence and then if you want you can merge all of your layers at the end and that just makes everything super easy I'll show you an example I recently Drew this Bakery flatlay and I have a ton of different layers going on here so I have a layer for my cinnamon bun and my strawberries so the cinnamon bun overlaps the strawberries and then I have a layer for my plates the decorations on my plates the Shadows on my plates and then underneath that I have the Shadows that go underneath the plates so really I would not be able to draw without these layers and the more I use procreate the more Reliant I become on layers because it makes the process so easy if you want to tweak something on one layer it does not affect anything else overall procreate is my life my true love sorry tan um I'm obsessed with it I'm the biggest proponent of it I have tried adob illustrator it's fine I get the hype procreate is so much better in my opinion and I think it makes me feel more like a true artist um and not that you're not an artist I just think it's more of kind of a graphic design tool to use Adobe or um illustrator or photoshop but with this I feel like I'm drawing and it's really great cuz I kind of grew up painting canvases and I'd have to haul all of my paint supplies everywhere and it was just awful um to clean up but now I can take my iPad anywhere I want and I can draw for 5 minutes and it's super fun and it's super convenient and then I can just put it down and there's no cleanup so overall I am an iPad kid and I love procreate so something else I have used procreate for is just like a full range of different types of art so I have done full illustrations that look more like digital art I've done all of my repeating patterns that have more of a watercolor look and this kind of goes back to the texture that you can get in procreate I was talking about but a lot of my recent artwork has a watercolor effect and that's something you would not get in Vector artwork being able to do like very different pieces of Art and have repeating patterns or just illustrations is really fun you can totally see like how much of a range procreate has you know I have my just standard sticker designs again with a little bit of like a watercolor texture even way back in the day when I was sort of just starting out I used procreate to digitize my artwork so this was originally a canvas painting that I had in my living room and I basically just cut out all of the background space that was solid gray canvas um there's a lot of shadowing on the canvas texture that I wanted to take out so I cut out all of that with procreate and then I popped in just a solid gray background to make it like a more polished finished look and so really this is just a very flexible program you can still kind of see here there's a lot of the original texture that was on the original painting but I was able to tweak the background to be super even and nice looking in my opinion so I think that there's just a lot of flexibility and a huge range of possibilities of what can be done on procreate I've seen artists do a amazing incredible work that's incredibly diverse it looks so different it actually astounds me how how many different types of artwork can be made in this program and I know I've been raving about it but this is not sponsored I'm just obsessed I literally depend on this program like for my personal enjoyment and for my business so such a huge fan and if you liked this video and you want to hear more about procreate leave your questions in the comments I'm happy to do tutorials and all that and don't forget to like comment and subscribe okay we got to ask of all that scrolling you just did what's your weirdest craziest design that you have right now oh sayess I'd love to take you mean it's weird enough that it could be print that on everything yeah really [Music]
