today I'm taking you on a Thai street food tour of bangkok's famous chatu chak weekend market and it's pretty easy to get lost with in these narrow alleys but I'm going to show you exactly where to go to eat some of the best local Thai [Music] food they have a couple of literal almost jacuzzi sized walks filled with the broth oh yeah including a Thai street food stall that I never miss when I come to the market and this is the spot they do all sorts of stir fried dishes Seafood here tell boom one of the best in Bangkok that's happiness in a [Music] ball hey everyone hope you're having an amazing day it's Mark wans and welcome to bangkok's chatuchak weekend Market which is one of the biggest open air weekend markets in the entire world that attracts something like 200,000 shop ERS every weekend and people come here to buy everything from Ceramics to Vintage clothes to back scratchers but you name it somewhere within this Market you can find it whenever you have a lot of people in one place you will find a lot of food but to find the best Thai food in the market you need to know where to [Music] look I'm actually here before they officially open at 9:00 a.m. it's about 8:30 a.m. right now uh so all the Stalls are open but there's still some food that's open and just trying to navigate our way to the first spot from the main road here's the sign cang J this is the spot so you go down this alley here oh nice here's the first spot so I just made my choice got a plate of food uh they told me one of their signature dishes here is the lab but this place is so friendly and this is just a classic Tha C gang stall uh Kat gang which means rice and Curry all the dishes are prepared and so you just see what looks good and you choose whatever you want I mean especially in the morning you'll find that these stalls everything is freshly cooked and so that's one of the best times to try Tha rice and Curry I asked them what is the specialty and they said one of their Specialties is the labu so this is a minced pork salad there's some skin in here there's all the herbs there's usually lime juice chili flakes and let's test it out oh yeah oh that is tasty oh that's good to wake up to in the morning but it's really sour from the lime juice really actually what's standing out is the freshness of those herbs you taste the kantro in there which is the Sawtooth coriander you taste the the green onions and I think there's even some basil in there which is kind of brightening it up giving it some uh some freshness oh that is really good really tasty okay and then Additionally you have pieces of MCH pork in here but then you also have pieces of skin which give it a nice contrast of texture the skin just kind of has a little bit of a chewi to it uh but a nice textural mixup in your mouth and then the other dish I got is their genan with his uh green curry with chicken eggplants coconut milk oh man the egg mine just totally melt in your mouth got the rich of the coconut cream a little bit sweet a little bit salty really good really fa good you really taste the flavor of the M the lime leaves in there which give it that that boost of yeah kind of freshness citrusy at the same time I mean that's contrasting the richness of the coconut milk okay but we need to to season and they have a beautiful jug of uh Chili's fish sauce garlic so it is it's mango with garlic with mango with chilies with fish sauce cup okay oh yeah oh yeah I mean with that added uh saltiness of the fish sauce that sourness of the mango the garlic the chilies well that just bumps up the flavor that enhances everything we got some blood cubes man yeah great place to start your day rice and Curry I mean you can't go wrong with rice and Curry and they do a great job of making all of the dishes the variety and it doesn't get better than this like literally bar counter seating facing the food oh man yeah this is happiness for me all right oh that was a great way to get started but from here we are continuing we still I mean we're just getting started we have a lot more food to [Music] eat okay here we go we made it to the next place and this place is legendary uh they serve muang n which is grilled pork with honey and the stall is called me and this place if you come here later on it will be packed but you can already smell the aroma of the roasted pork uh which is grilling right on site really famous place I'm excited to try it you oh man that Aroma of the Smoky grill pork being grilled but then also that uh caramelization because it's marinated in Honey Honey grilled pork and he's putting on a fresh batch right now but you also smell maybe some soy sauce in the Marin maybe some garlic uh it's definitely a secret recipe that they have and they've done it well because it's extremely popular but he's just putting on a fresh batch now and that's going to slowly Grill over that Smoky fire one of the things that I've noticed as he's grilling is that they keep a really low fire it's not a raging hot fire he really controls the heat really controls the flame because I mean that fatty pork if it starts juicing if it starts grilling too fast it will just go up in a Flames it will burn especially with the sugar with the fat so he really controls the heat doesn't try to cook it too [Music] fast okay Co that smells so good there's two different versions of the pork that you can order you can order the one with fat and one of the leaner pork so there's two different versions and you can IM immediately tell that the one with the fat is just glistening it's shining and then the the leaner one I guess that might be the healthier option but we decided to try both and then additionally what's really famous here is what they call the pork burger it's kind of like a well In tha it's called salapa which is a bow which is the Chinese steamed bun that's the that's the bun and then they take some of the lean pork they take a whole a whole steak of the lean pork put it directly into that fresh steamed bread all right oh that is tasty I mean this one is the lean pork and it's still delicious with the sweetness the sugars of the honey and the fire that just cakes onto the edges of the pork creates that Smoky glaze that just gives it so much flavor the bread because it's steamed it's so soft it's so fluffy you almost don't notice it's there it's more just like a handle okay but I'm really excited to try the fatty pork definitely want to get a piece and then just rehydrate it rejuice it in the the puddle at the bottom of the bag okay with the fat I mean you immediately notice the fat the juiciness of it the the Richer I mean fat just tastes fat is where the flavor is fat just tastes good yeah that's really tasty really Smokey again the the sweetness of the honey um and it is sweet but it does taste really good especially with that reaction from being grilled but immediately as you take that bite I'm craving sticky rice no combination like sticky rice perfect combination oh you could see the the the just a pool of juices accumulating at the bottom of the bag so juicy and then immediately taste with sticky rice really good now definitely the key here is that with every single bite you'll want to rejuice rehydrate it in that pool of juices that accumulates at the bottom of your bag oh man the juiciness grilled honey pork I mean that place is so famous and that was tasty but we have a lot more to eat we're continuing with this Tyre food tour we crossed over a few more of the main lanes and a few more Market alleys and I think I can smell what's coming next [Music] this is the aroma that's just filling the air filling the humidity in Bangkok boa or boat noodles and they have a couple of literal almost jacuzzi sized walks filled with the broth you see all those juices all the meat oils the blood within the soup um and so when you order you order a bowl of noodles you can get beef you can get pork you can get meatballs you can get a variety of different toppings and things that you want inside of your bowl of noodles uh they blanch up the noodles uh put them into your bowl and then he mixes up your sauces all your mixtures with garlic with some fresh blood that's going to curdle into the soup to make it rich and thick he adds in some chili a little bit of MSG a little bit of sugar and some other seasonings um and then just drops that onto your hot fresh blanched noodles what a process so I got my bowl boat noodles I got the beef uh got all a mix of everything so you can see there's some liver there's some stomach or some tripe looks like there might be a piece of rumin in there as well excellent smells delicious boat noodles are one of the most popular noodles in Thailand especially in Bangkok region and people love it and I love it as well or let's just try that soup broth first let me grab a a spoon [Music] oh yeah oh oh man the vinegar almost went to the back of my throat you taste the the sourness it already has a really nice balance of flavor sour sweet and a little bit spicy and then just the richness because he adds in that blood I one of the great things about boat noodles is that blood that's added to really thicken and enrich in the broth that's what gives it so much flavor oh that is good yeah we definitely need to season typic Al what I go for vinegar and then I definitely want to go for some some chili which is in a nice squeeze bottle dried chili in a squeeze bottle oh nice oh here we go now stir this it's actually already a bit [Music] spicy nice and sour spicy balanced with the sweetness tender meat delicious one more crucial step I almost forgot they serve you a little bowl of cabu this is crispy pork skins which you immediately have to add that is going to bump everything up oh you can already hear them turnar to crackle as they hit that liquid oh man with the crispy pork skin I mean they start to absorb the broth so as soon as you bite down you get this crispiness but also this just juiciness that flows out from that broth okay let's try the meatball oh nice and bouncy oh yeah that's really good I kind of like you feel the I mean it's tender but it's so spring in your mouth and I absolutely love this seating here just again like just really small tables which are filled into this small stall and you have that constant Breeze the steam of the soup just filling the air this really sums up the flavor of Thailand and what Thai people love allinone Bowl sweet spicy sour salty everything and a little bit of richness metin with your noodles oh man I mean there's a lot of places where you can eat boat noodles with in chatu Market but this is one of the best but just so you know that stall is a28 through 29 and it's kind of off on the side you have to navigate your way into this area but definitely worth checking out when you come to this market and also while we're at it if you're enjoying this video if you could please remember to give this video a thumbs up and I'd also love to hear your comments in the description box below that would be awesome but yeah we're moving on and we have more to eat includ somebody come come uh we have more to eat including one might I mean the place that I absolutely can't miss when I come to Chach chak weekend Market actually we're kind of on the outskirts of the market and you'll find a huge food court with tons of street food a lot of fast food things that you can just grab on the go everything from grilled pork skewers to grilled squid eggs which is very popular something I usually eat is the grilled squid eggs I would highly recommend those but today I'm going to try the fried Lin which is the pork balls which have then been battered and deep fried and then she puts a sauce into them and it's like octane Orange orang in color neon orange these look like they would glow in the [Applause] dark oh it's kind of nice crispy kind of like you taste the batter which has a flavor in it maybe a hint of spice and then it has a sweet sauce all over it with a little pork meatballs on the center it's like dangerously addictive okay so next up on this tour L prong and he has a variety of fruits I mean it's a whole fruit store you can order whatever fruit you like but his most famous thing what people what ties come here to eat is his mang Nan which is mango with sweet shrimp paste and fish sauce so we're going to order one and see how he makes it right now but he already has I mean they're preparing for a lot of mango oh he already has big sack fulls of mangoes already uh we got here before the the big rush but they're definitely definitely ready for The Rush okay so the shrimp paste goes on okay and now he's going to put on the fish sauce sweet fish sauce whoa so sticky with shrimp in it oh nice okay oh man that smells so good you smell like caramel Aroma and more wow okay okay so here we go and you can see man he really loads up the toppings and he loads up so much of the the sweet fish sauce with shrimp but then he put two spoonfuls of the shrimp paste and it looks like it's been looks like it's very sugary as well sugary with shrimp paste the Green Mango all of that fish sauce oh man okay first of all I love his mango it's a in it's called a gal Camin it's known to be crispy it's sweet and it's sour all at the same time the texture and I mean it's not stringy at all the Mingo itself has a perfect texture to it it's sweet but it's also salty it has this Umami to it the fish sauce from the shrimp paste from the actual baby shrimp in there as well and then it has this complexity because of the fermentation because of all the I mean there's so many things that go into this so many different flavors and again this is one of the things that just totally encompasses what flavor profile ti lovees so much I consider this more of like a dessert snack uh but it's delicious and refreshing and then you've also got that syrupy fish sauce on the bottom so you've got two different sources of sweetness and fermentation it's really good and I mean if you have watched my previous videos you probably know that I don't love sweet that much but I think because of the fuess of this because of the the sourness that brings it together also that salty complexity to me this this is like premium dessert all just that balance of flavor and uncle is really generous with his toppings with his ingredients I mean this is something that's just so addictive once you start eating it you can't stop now we also ordered his namam which is Lan juice o yeah that's pretty sweet a little bit sweet uh but it is nice it's nice and fragrant you taste that longan you taste the the fragrance almost kind of has a like a caramelly caramelly fragrance to it and it is very refreshing it's starting to warm up today uh starting to sweat so drinking something icy and cold always hits the spot L come here I mean he I mean his uhan is so good it's so addictive it's so tasty definitely and friendly yes thank you come to think of it it's almost like the equivalent of a caramel apple just the Thai version but mango with sweet fish sauce and shrimp paste the time has come we're on our way to go eat at one of my favorite places to eat at chatu chak weekend market and often times I mean I'll even come to the market I mean I won't even come to the market I'll just come to eat there and then leave without going to the market at all and it's actually right out side of the MRT station so you actually go out of the gates to the MRT Station comp pet MRT Station go down the steps to the other side of the of the fence and we'll be there so then you come around you round this corner and this is the spot welcome toam J and this is a legendary restaurant this place is so good I've been coming here for many years and the service the owners Auntie Uncle who cooks he is a master of cooking famous for their tum Kung which is shrimp tham but also River prawns they do all sorts of stir fried dishes Seafood here what a legendary restaurant stall I love this place he is an absolute master I mean they have a full menu they have salads they have every stir fry you can imagine they have different Tha soups but nobody comes here without getting their tomyam which is one of the most famous things to eat here which is something I can't miss when I'm here and he is an absolute Master at making Thum yum adding all his ingredients so he assembles it here he then lights it on the Roaring fire and just like tosses it up with that fire uh gives it a squirt of evaporated milk it's so creamy it's so good oh man I I love this place [Music] I oh y okay [Music] come so he's making AUM here with the shrimp oh so it's freshwater shrimp chilies salt and MSG goes in Sugar lime juice goes in fish sauce oh yeah chilies I think this one is for us Na and then yes so that's the manong that's the prized ingredients here which is manong which is the head butter juices of the prawn which makes it really thick and creamy and Rich I love how he mixes all the ingredients in the pot then throws it under the fire he uh blazes it up turns up that fire cranks up that heat and then he like doesn't actually really stir it until the end then he gives it a big stir and then directly into the balll oh this is the stir fried sunflower sprouts with crispy pork that we're also getting oh and this is for the the fried shrimp with garlic which has already been pre-cooked these are all freshwater shrimp and the next dish we've got G shrimp with garlic all the garlic goes in okay oh so there's crispy fried garlic and fresh garlic goes in a little bit of oyster sauce look at that Sizzle cou myy so right from the kitchen I think that completes our order I'm going to sit down nearest table to the kitchen yes and this is the definition of Fast and Furious food action just one after the other I mean they're just taking orders nonstop okay let's try the thong one of the best in Bangkok oh man so many goodies in here let's Stir It Up a little bit but you've got the freshwater shrimp you've got uh mushrooms in here you have one of the things that I love is that they put um coconut CHS uh coconut shs but let's just try that broth first and look how thick and Cru creamy it is oh oh wow oh yes oh it's so good oh man it's so creamy I mean he adds two sources of creaminess from the head of the shrimp as well as he adds a in a spray of evaporated milk which makes it creamy but then you've got the so much flavor it's like a condensed flavor of shrimp of pra I did have a bite of the coconut Sho in there which gives it a nice crunch it's sour from lime juice it has a sweetness from roasted Chili Pepper he adds in some sugar there's some msj to bring the flavors together it has an herbal Aroma you taste the the flavor of the the fragrance of the MCR lime leaves oh man that is so good oh man oh man that's happiness in a bow that is it's so just so good okay I'll just pick this up oh man that melts in your mouth oh and then you can bite the head and still you can see on your fingers it just oozes out with the shrimp juices with the shrimp butter juices oh man and he does it so like amazing how he lets that fire just roar but he doesn't overcook the shrimp yeah when I bit the head the first time it just like the the juice is just squeezed out of it all over my fingers another dish what we got is tan M so this is sunflower sprouts with Crispy crispy pork which he stir-fried just classic just good you tast the garlic the chilies the oyster sauce and again he cooks it so fast in a raging fire just for 30 seconds and it's done so you really taste the the smokiness of it as well and the sunflower sprouts are great I mean they have a little bit of a tun them a fresh Crunch and then paired with that crispy pork Bell excellent okay next up for thead so this is uh shrimp stir fried with garlic basically caramelized with garlic I'm going to go for one at the bottom there look how much garlic there is so he added in there's already fried garlic but then also we had it in fresh garlic and stir-fried with with this with oyster sauce open up that head squeeze out the ju yeah can you see the juices in there actually you might be able to eat the whole head because it's fried but those juices the head butter get that out of there with the shrimp all of that garlic caramelized garlic oh yeah that's like garlic on top of garlic with the caramelized oyster sauce oh man oh that's so tasty that's comforting again the shrimp are cooked perfectly and he actually even fries the shrimp pretty ahead of time so that it's really a quick fast process when you stir fries them that's so much flavor oh man salty a little bit sweet and just multiple dimensions of garlic all in your mouth at once that's so good I need to pick one up pick one up load it up with that garlic okay there we go oh wow oh man that is delicious doesn't flavor overdose in your mouth and you got the the sweetness of the shrimp the silky texture of the body of the shrimp and then just that really juicy creammy inside of the head all together oh you can't miss it when you come here next up or lastly got the yamak cette this is water Mimosa salad with all sorts of minced pork chilies garlic there's squid in here there's shrimp in here there is muscles nice and refreshing just sour from the lime juice taste the flavor of the seafood all the blanch Seafood the squid there's even Y which are the the coconut shs in here as well it's spicy good excellent that's like a I mean you have some of the other dishes which are really rich especially the the T and the the fried shrimp but this is more refreshing lighter has that uh kind of like refreshing citrusy lime juice flavor to it that is the definition of caramelized garlic oh [Music] man oh man what a meal I mean this is one of the tops I mean this is as good as it gets up oh man what a what a meal I mean this is the meal that I come sometimes I don't really actually come to the market I just come to this restaurant to eat at it's a restaurant I wouldn't miss when you come to chat chak weekend Market oh while we're walking around we might as well just try this is something that's extremely iconic here at chatu chak Market I guess it's called like num King lot Frozen ice in a straw like popsicle formation but it's really iconic the way they make it and they have Coca-Cola which is Frozen all a variety of juices simple small oh yeah that's straight Coca-Cola frozen into icicle something very popular something iconic at Chach Market maybe one of the most famous sweet snacks to eat when you come to chachu chak Market is I MAA which is coconut ice cream traditional style Thai coconut ice cream uh so we we found an uncle who's selling coconut ice cream he dishes it out into a coconut shell and there should be the meat down below there as well uh but then you got the ice cream made from coconut milk you adds on some of the NEPA Palm fruits I think they're called luk Jack and in Thai and it is the nippa palm fruit and then also some uh sticky rice some green sticky rice which is flavored with pandan I believe and then also some peanuts on top I mean this is Classic this is traditional one of the classics of Thai sweets so try some of that coconut ice cream first peanuts sticky rice great combination M oh uncle has some good ice cream oh nice it's sweet you taste the flavor of the coconut and it also has the saltiness to bring out the flavor to bring out the sweetness we'll try one of the luk jaac the NEPA Palm jellies oh that's cold on the teeth yeah the jellies are they're like really kind of starchy thick and dense and then have a jelly texture to them at the same time definitely when you come to Chacha weekend Market you don't want to miss uh coconut ice cream oh nice okay as you dig down you I did find find a scraped coconut oh that's my favorite part of the whole ice cream experience mhm oh man really nice young coconut so the meat the flesh are just totally melts in your mouth I mean it is the texture of jelly as well it just just totally kind like almost like coconut milk except salt but jelly yeah just melts in your mouth it's midafternoon now the market is now packed but I'm happy I'm full I'll have all the restaurants that we ate at in the description box below I do also want to mention that this video I mean we're just barely scratching the surface of the amount of Thai food that's available I mean if you get lost within the market if you get into the aisles you'll find so many good Thai street food options that I mean if you see something that looks good you should
