Texas teen Hailey Hernandez is on to the 3m springboard semis | Tokyo Olympics | NBC Sports

in the final round of the women's three meter prelims the top eighteen advance to the semis three sets of five dives to determine battles of the individual competition eighteen year old Haley Hernandez from Southlake Texas graduated from high school in March went to the Olympic trials she said just for the experience and she ended up qualifying for the teams she was amazing at the trials she really didn't miss a dive and she just has that ability to fine vertical on every single day is it right or is it sonar I'm not sure but this is another one of those and she has lower degree of difficulty so the scores won't be quite as high in the total well she's been baptized her first Olympic dive what a pretty injury one night he said this is one that I sort of like to brush my brow afterwards and say really because it's a fairly new dive thanks she is consistent if nothing else and she has a lot more assets than just being consistent but she doesn't do the toughest dives this is one of our hardest dives even though it's not a highest degree of difficulty died three and a half somersault a lot for an eighteen year old she has is %HESITATION teammates cheer on she has the lowest degree of difficulty list of the twenty seven in this field but you see the scores that's our hope that's right you do it well so in the second round you could see the top China Canada Canada China and there's Haley Hernandez you know very good second round dive jumps her up into seventh Haley Hernandez told us this is this is the beginning of her career makes sense she's had very little international experience just this spring she won her fourth consecutive Texas state high school title on the one meter springboard it was the Olympic trials there's the maturity of this eighteen year old she got through the Olympic trials and made the Olympic team as a teenager with out her coach being there he had so many young diverse city was coaching getting ready for the national championships for the age group divers they couldn't leave hello first time Olympian Jordan Windle watching another good seven fives in each for Hernandez really good and I'm assuming very good at using more visual references seeing the water knowing how and when to unfold there she looks at the water underneath her before she kicks her legs and always stretches I think she is keeps her form just I would say close to a hundred percent of the time second highest score die for Hernandez in the spring the well remember this Haley Hernandez I just graduated from high school marching is openly said she simply had her eyes set on Paris she went to the Olympic trials for the experience ended up making the team and now one dive away from advancing to the semis from Southlake Texas makes it into the semi finals with room to spare the model of consistency never received the low seventies on anytime she did does it do the hardest died yet no she needs to increase your degree of difficulty but how great is this youngest diver in the contest for again just consistent enough to make it so Haley Hernandez continued for her first Olympic night to do which she did in the Olympic trials to earn the spot just consistent diving to find a very solid six place
