Testing the Polish ATE-1 Rebreather

oh so I'm gonna be doing a video I didn't think I'd really do any point I've got part behind the camera because if anything goes wrong he can step in so we're going to actually be testing a rebreather unit so this is the Polish a te one rebreather and it uses the same time two rebreather cannister in here as the IP five retrievers use it's just a modern one so I wouldn't really trust an old Soviet technology Iran to do it so what we're going to do is see if we can get this working when the goggles are on the only way I can breathe is through my mouth and when I'm breathing through my mouth that will be through here so sexy if I'm going to connect the oxygen bladder to the tank and then we're gonna see if this all works properly so I've never done this before and I could find any sort of manuals online that easily explained it so let's see what happens so can I first of all get this bit I'm done I think I'd have to break the seals on here we might as well do it on camera so it's obviously proof I'm using this but let's see can I get like one undone it I don't know it's not like a grenade pin don't get much cleavage on me unless I have to crush it in does this yeah there we go see it you just twist those so there's that bit off and I'm gonna safely upon I assume a boat twist the same way so what we have to do first I guess is open these bits up which and they and then the seals just snap as you do so what I'll just show you that how I don't know how well it will show on the camera but you can actually see some of the scrubber unit inside so you can see some mesh on one side and not the other so is that willing frame but yeah would you like me to use my torch yeah if you just wanna quickly flick it on so you can see just what the inside looks like yes you see a bit of mesh down that side and then the other side you can't really see anything so anyway let's connect in the next test which will be next to the bladder on the rebreather up to here so these should just screw into these ports I imagine that's that one locked in and then there's this one here I can get up there we go he's like slightly bayonet cycle fittings to basically think it's like both Boehner and the screw if I can get lips I don't know if you're actually meant to do is to get off the metal beams on you in a normal you just try to get me a hand the second cause oh yeah and then I'm also proving that your existing here so what doing this toy myself horribly wrong so obviously just needs to push it and then I it's hard to say it should that be all the one think that's I think that's fine cuz it's like that oh yeah that's right nice up that bit and all that bar get back between a camera so now there's two different things there's this bit in here which I think somehow Auto inflates this thing so I'm just gonna see what happens if I pull this out and put that in so I think what will happen is this work a bit like a co2 canister where this pin will push into this bit of the satchel then inflate it so let's do this in real time mm-hm I suppose like normally have a slimline wet suit on under this rather than the big jacket so right easily so love to squeeze up back in there oh yeah so I think this will probably connect to their let's get like in yeah now can I puncture that into there there we go right I don't know if that will actually do anything oh there we go yep so online my now push down on this I guess and that inflates like that not interesting smell good that's good because I thought it might be a one sort of use things so there's that I guess that allows me to put more air into the system if I need to as and when I'm using it so now here comes the exciting part we're going to pull a scrubber pimp and hope I don't explode because this rebreather canister was all wrapped up at least properly before I start using it so I guess this fit just pulls up does it the actual hearing bits sort of pulling apart as I'm doing it or does this twist off somehow matrices it's just a level it leads up I'll pull this keyring off anyway and then that's the out the way that's you and then let's see can we figure out how to open this bit up anybody about twisting if you reckon all right yeah there's another seal up there which I yeah I think that's what it is it just takes a lot of leverage yeah you probably force it then it might be a bit easier for you to do everything no high stuff to get a crowbar in a moment alright tell you what just pause the video we'll get at all and then we'll resume right so we're going to try and use an allen key to force this open oh I can take off if you want we can try it on the ground no yeah maybe actually get a better angle on it yep let's learn let's undo this don't right so what we've done now Bart's help me leave that off so it looks now like I can put that flap down there there we go and pull it up okay let's hold up is anything happening what is it twist no it's on like that I don't know normally you've probably noticed some sort of chemical reaction happening assume you do these see is there anything else we need to do does that very custard or is that actually probably - I'm trying to look at the mechanism underneath to see if it's some like it's something you twist once that's anyway because it might be get too many twists like this doesn't work on as you see it looks like there's another sort of security seal type thing under there now so yeah that has to come up obviously and then is that something oh hang on all right you turn what we might want disconnect these a second until we've got this bit working so now that's off let's see we do that and then does it twist in the direction there we go right start the video talking about those still recording right I guess so where's that connector there it is say that was a bit dramatic but hey go help me get these in them [Applause] [Applause] he's in yes right those what isn't I see yeah I don't know right so hopefully this is now last time off again even do this one there we go that's probably you don't know right so what we can't happen was a big chemical reaction noise and hopefully we've not wasted the canister by not having it attached to the thing now let's see hopefully not so that's that let's pump this full of air and see if I can use a rebreather unit I'm hoping we can all just tighten this up and that's the flat back over here that should be over there but it's come loose so yeah like all these things if you're not trained to use know the operation you're just gonna it up probably which I'm doing now so let's get that bit on man back in there alright hopefully up secure let's pump some more oxygen in using that which I assume is oxygen thanks looking because I can't see it doing much there we go so that's filling up now as you can see my neck thing's crinkling open that sounds like it's as full as it's gonna go so now for the moment of truth can I breathe through this and will it work not like that I can't let's try twisting this is [Music] this thing I can breathe normally obviously I can't breathe now for my nose because the goggles make your hair tight now but with this on [Applause] so with less it doesn't feel all that that we can breathing normally once you get used to breathe it tastes a bit like petrol like whole petrol smells it tastes a bit like that when you're going through that I assume the rebreather scrubber unit is working as it made the initial noise I don't forget feels very hot Felicity's got really hot when they weren't gonna go does it feel like one maybe in places it does but why should it still working so not suffocating anything yeah basically what's happening is I'm breathing in and out through this back when you breathe out it's obviously pushing air through the scrubber unit one way from the bladder and then it's pulling the air in the other way and you've got a bit more oxygen obviously from where this has inflated it to begin with [Music] [Music] okay now this was sent to me by beef soft over video on hopefully you've seen it actually works there we link to his ebay thing below I wouldn't have done a retriever video unless Bart was there because the problem is in rebreathers if something goes wrong and you start suffocating you openness so he realized at least this you can just spit this out which is a bit safer than the full face rebreathers where you're essentially got an anti fit on your head well it's a bit like a gas mask yeah it all seems to work I mean obviously these are not the easiest things to put on if you've got no training of them we probably did a load of things in totally in a roll order it's probably easiest wire all this up to the rebreather unit before putting it on I'd imagine but you know we learn from experience doing these and yeah you just simply breathe in and out of your mouth so you put that in [Music] well I imagine the big scrubbing unit like this one plays a couple of hours of actually breathing you some some see compared to a gas mask the rebreather you networks in areas where there's absolutely no oxygen or it's totally poisonous so you can't filter the air so yeah seems to work all right quite an interesting thing but also make sure if you would getting into rebreathers you're going to know what we're doing there are lovely lists associated them with gas masks there we go you
