hi everyone Tay here at LIF AR Studios and I'm here today with Rick Sharon Brock from Miller who are you for Miller I'm the district manager for uh the state of Virginia and Rick has brought us the new Miller Dynasty 300 it's a ACDC TIG welding machine that's good up to 600 volts input it's an industrial machine as as you called it I have experience with the old Miller uh 210 DX Dynasty ran one at black dog for a while both the simplified version with just the single knob which is the n DX that's where I'm coming from as far as the last Miller TIG machine that I used and I've obviously dabbled in lots of other several medium grade machines since then I'm super curious about this machine so why don't you give me the high level sort of cuz this is new it's got a screen on it from the first time for the first time I can see this is the new Dynasty 300 so we make this in a ACDC stick TIG model we also make it in a multiprocess model that has CV output sort of designed for the shipyards to run flux core wire with voltage sensing wire feeder okay but uh the Dynasty series itself has been around since the original Dynasty 300 in the early '90s yeah the technology has been there the inverter technology Miller was one of the first manufacturers to have an inverter AC TIG machine without continuous high frequency that was a big deal back in the day to get away from that right and through history our Dynasty Series has always had a ton of feature sets where you could adjust wave shapes and balance controls and frequency controls but they were a lot of times in background menus that were hard to access or like secret button comos secret combinations to get into a menu and even when you got into that menu you had a limited screen that would show you an eight segment display and you could only show certain letters or numbers on it right so this new display is a very user uh smartphone type active interface sure so when you adjust stuff it's going to show you a picture of the AR and what it's actually doing to that Arc so if you're adjusting frequency it's going to show the arc getting narrower and wider that's cool if you're adjusting balance control on AC TIG you're going to see the etching get wider or if you do it too small it's going to get black pepper on top of your give you an idea what's happening you're also going to see your tungsten getting a ball on the end so and an illustration on the screen an illustration on the scre obviously in real life too but yes so it kind of gives you an idea of what you're adjusting and what that's going to control in your art that's extremely helpful because obviously those are all things that traditionally you have to learn in the hard way either by just messing with settings for a day or two correct so there are some new features on this system not only do we have four uh wave shapes sine wave soft Square wave Advanced Square wave and triangle but we can adjust them independently on positive and negative half Cycles yes I'm starting to L stuff that you can do with that heat control we have a feature or we have a program where we're um we're trying to make uh customers that are using a lot of helium gas argon helium mixes helium gas is is used on thick aluminum because it uh it's more resistive and it gives you more amperage gives you more heat free heat okay but the problem with the helium is it's very expensive and it's a very resistive gas and it gives you poor Arc starts so if we can do the same thing with argon that we're doing with argon helium it save the customer a ton of money plus plus for the operator it's more user friendly on Arc starts and all that good stuff right so by changing a advanced Square wave to the negative half cycle for penetration and triangular wave form for for the cleaning action we can get get into conditions where we don't even need a helium which yeah I've never run helium and and I know most people R for a lot of people 8 in to qu inch don't it's if you get into real thick stuff or if you get into thick to thin right so all the features are in here that were in the previous 280 this is the Big Brother of the 280 the 300 so where does this sorry if they interrupt where does this stack up in the range of in the Dynasty series we have the 210 which is our smallest model that runs on 110 to 463 phase okay that's its claim the fame as it can run on a 110 circuit up to about 100 amps of welding this one will run uh the 300 is the second size up this will run singlephase or three-phase 200 to 600 volts with auto line very useful for uh construction sites or uh when you're using a generator where you might have fluctuating power it really works good for that step up from this would be the dynasty 400 uh which is a 350 amp 60% machine this is a 250 amp 60% and then we have the big Dynasty 800 which is a 500 amp 100% Duty machine good Lord and they all have these same feature sets that we're going to go through from the AC so you know here at lift AR we do obviously a lot of car mostly carbon but getting into more Automotive fabrication we're doing a lot of aluminum and then stainless and I'd like to move into titanium y so having a high quality system to do all of those sensitive or non you know Ferris non feris everything thing but mild is the brunt of it which is obviously the easy the easiest thing for a TIG welder to do mhm but that doesn't mean it can't get easier you know or better correct so you've got a standard Cup on here with a 33 seconds tungsten I'm intimately familiar with Miller's uh 17 series torch this Flex head rigid head no it's that's not a flex head you you can Flex once or twice yeah you can bend it a couple times it'll bend a couple times but it's always I've always liked the like sort of comfy grip and everything but so when it comes to setting up for most normal situations like in this case we've got some E8 in steel 1/4in steel you kind of run through the settings I I don't know maybe you start with amperage and then work just go left or right on the machine at the top here we have a home button which gets us back to this home screen so anything we're doing down in one of these soft keys here if I get into process I can go around I get I want to get out of this mode I just go back to home it's kind of like my back button nice so if I get into process before I even get into process I can see what the current settings are on AC TIG HF start 330 second tungsten if I get into process that's where I can select any of my processes H DC tig with high freak start lift dark start stick and any of them that I want to go to I just hit this button to enter it so we'll go back up to DC tig with HS start move over to the trigger the trigger we are using a fingertip control instead of a foot pedal we can also use push buttons there's a full sequencer on this machine that'll run through pre flow ramp up um ramp down crater fill all that good stuff I up slope and down slope I've come to love mhm you know for pulser you can get into pulse you can turn pulse on and off so get in there and turn that on and then you can go down into advanced features where either you can just adjust frequency right which a lot of Fe a lot of your machines that have pulse that's all they offer right is you can adjust the frequency and you can see what happens to the bead when I do that the beat starts getting narrower and right here it's showing you the auto set what Miller recommends as the preset feature side and so that line is is where we recommend it as I get small you can see all the beads getting wider Isn't that cool so it gives you a visual of what you're actually trying to do with this thing that's a great you know you most people may have learned that at one point but it's easy to forget so it's if you don't know there's a pro set button and that's going to put it right back to where you should be Peak background and then pulse wave shape so here's another thing on DC TIG we always had a true Square wave output and it would go pop po pop pop pop yeah well the shipyard did not like that feature and they had older machines that were much softer and quieter so Miller found out that if we change the wave shape on our DC pulse from a square wave to a soft Square wave there those hard edges that work great we can put it on 120 HZ or 60 htz and normally you'll hear it going Bur and when we put it on soft pulse you won't hear nothing absolutely silent so that's something that we gathered from some of our customers that were asking about why did it do this and how can we change that yeah just a nice quality of life so that's where even on DC TIG which we are right now we can go down to that pulse wave shape and change it from Square to sign quiet pulse quiet pulse oh that's a nice new feature so it's something we always had uh available we just didn't have it at that feature active right now out something front and center that we have customers that really appreciate that yeah cool so if we get into the AC wave shape side AC high freak start we're going to use that same trigger right we're going to use that same fingertip control but now if I go over to this AC wave setting here's where we can adjust frequency so this is again where it's going to show you the bait the bead getting smaller and wider with the frequency control I go back and deeper more heat input I like showing this one on balance if I go up on balance see how it starts getting dark and not cleaning and watch the etching if I start I gets real wide and etching see my tungsten how it's getting all around people don't understand that a lot of times what's going on you know so that's a good good feature to have there it took me a long time to put all the dots together the hard way you know correct which I'm glad I know that now but it's great to have you might have off days or you got to put someone else on it it's nice to have that you can put on sine wave which is going to be the the hottest most molten puddle that's like an old old old time machine right the uh triangular wave is good for thin sheet aluminum it does not Keyhole but it tra very fast travel speed nice the soft Square wave is the uh the default setting that's just your middle of the road uh soft Arc and then you got Advanced Square wave which was like all the older machines and that's a little bit more abrupt wave shape to it well I mean we can play around with it pretty simple yeah sit down and I'll I'll set you up on some pulsing some uh steel and the pulsing I yeah I'd love to play with that that'd be very cool I'm a foot pedal guy actually me too well I've got some 8 in gussets and some plate and I believe this is quarter so we can kind of mess with not either end of the spectrum we'll put her on DC TIG first I've also got some aluminum uh piping that would be fun to try sure I don't do a whole lot with DC TIG well I do so I'm excited to try it is that working yeah that's without that's 100 HZ without so this is quiet add that's without oh wow that's the difference that's 100 H Hertz 120 HZ or 100 yeah right there but it's like a softer Square yep so did that reduce heat heat input here's here's quiet triangle that's quieter yet and even less heat input yes yeah yep D you need to weld some razor blades together with that can is probably super quiet too it's round you yeah you don't even hear it and that's 100 pulses per second yep the only one you really hear is uh it is uh Advanced Square yeah and this is what we used to only thing we had cool go ahead and play around with it I'll dial you in if you want to try different things speed about right yeah so want slow down it could be a little faster actually cuz I'm getting going pretty hot gotcha there slower yeah yeah that's good that's good okay that's one and A2 dang it's nice to have someone to change settings for you mid weld yeah see I'm already panicking about how to shut it off I hate that but that felt great that feels nice of course that's a pretty easy joint but that feels really good here we go probably started a little cold it's rolling now so another thing you can do is you can use that fingertip control as just an onoff switch and use a sequencer oh that's probably what I would do check that out huh make fun of me now internet they will they'll find way they'll find a way this is great this is exactly what I expected this is very simple the AC is where predictability is so important cuz it's so sensitive and sometimes the parts of welding are so expensive and like a radiator or a bung or something you know- 16 fitting from vibrant that cost 30 bucks a piece like right you want to know what you're getting and sometimes I don't it's made to be used with a push button but that Swit that on off on the switch at the beginning will do the same thing as a push button well that's nice you don't have to buy two different things you get the same 20 amp just run some on plate and get used to it and see what you like or see looks like so that's 20 okay no this 2T so it stays there for a little while yeah 7 and then it ramps up right yeah you were describing 4T it's on 2T so uh there's even less I have to do you just hit it once on and it doesn't S and then you're offing that's right yeah that's how I would do it but with this mode here you just lose the current control capability you know what I mean the roller you don't have have any controler roll yeah but you know if I don't have a foot pedal I'm going to find I know and but you're only like a millimeter away from shutting it off too right so you can bring it down real quick if you right I just got to remember which way is off there it is well I'll tell you that plate is welded to that plate it's not coming off of there is it yeah you know and I would have probably gone a little hotter so it wet in a little bit but the control wise was nice so was very cool so what we're going to do here is hit the process button again and then we can look at our AC wave shape right now we're at 120 HZ do you mind if I walk through the setup so I would do that first that's right trigger we're going to leave it on fingertips and and that's where you can do for pulse no for now 120 so we might as well give it a a fair shot let me Scotch bright it and aceton in my [Music] filler [Music] very clean Try A Little Less this is my preference here I like about 90 [Music] Herz boy this hand control is tough on this episode of lift Arc builds Tay welds the dirtiest piece of aluminum known to man so you've got 55 Peak up slope that's all you're going to get at Max that was about what you needed I thought to so as long as so I might have to if this were cold I'd have to linger a little bit to establish the puddle but that's okay just see see if it's any good or if I got to dial it down for you little more I don't mind it it's actually fine it's a little on the cold side yeah there you go there you go 70 amps that's good ran out of angle but yeah that that felt good in the middle there 65 7 you said 70 right yeah that's nice so instead of just our normal mode uh I just went down to um under trigger okay to push button and then when you hit it again allows you to go through and set your sequencer nice just set this to what you need you know when you're running maybe a little more that was more than 55 I think I had it at 61 at the end or 65 but you can change weld aage later yeah when you were welding we were we were sitting like right here and just showed the amps and the bolts and I was adjusting your amps up on the fly yeah [Music] nice I always forget which way is off that's that's my bet you know that's worth like just having to really uh p push button would be nice yeah sounds good and I'm not deforming the inside at all so that would have been a great setting for that well cool so um thank you for bringing it by where can people go to find out more about it and then purchase it if they're looking to get one if you look on our website millerwelds.com you can uh search for the Dynasty series and uh see all the literature on it there uh you can also get a hold of any of our local distributors in the area AR3 gases and Rono and then go go up there who I'm with today yeah obviously I'd recommend you go to arc3 gases and you guys have a fancy new e-commerce section of the website now absolutely you can uh you can you can uh go on our website you can register your account you can shop online and have stuff you place your order it prints at the store they pull it ship it it's seamless just like Amazon F hey so with everything you brought today was this everything that would come with it if you bought like the base what is I basically brought the machine which the only thing that comes with the machine is a couple extra dense connectors for making up a ground clamp and a and a stick lead and a what's called a contractor's kit which is the regulator gas uh hose torch and then you can get it with a fingertip control or a foot pedal and we we got the fingertip control with this system here so with the contractor package what does this run here retail this is probably about a uh $10,000 package so this is uh this is your industrial top of the line take system exactly right the last one you'll ever need to buy I would hope well thank you for bringing it down here for us the demo we're going to be using it a lot and uh coming up I don't know if you keep this part in but we're going to be putting it up against a fronius and an HTTP machine just for fun just for fun you don't look worried at all so how what could possibly go wrong uh thank you Rick I really appreciate it it's been great to get to know you and uh onward and upward go to all the places we mentioned thank you for watching like And subscribe follow Miller obviously you guys have a social media pre presence and YouTube and follow arc3 gasses and thank you for watching see you on the next one uh where we do some more [Music] tigging okay fine let's see this would be more beneficial just run some on the aluminum plate or what just to see how clear it is cuz everybody says they got the clearest helmet but proofs in the P yeah it's it's a it's a it's a contest that I tend to not care everyone's all like we have the clearest and I'm just so like condition when you get on one that is really clear no I I'm in trouble I sense it he already likes it before he start yeah going to figure this roller out one day did you see all the colors I yeah it looked like it it looked like it does now that's crazy this would actually be wild to film welding with on the camera side didn't even do a weld which way is off so cold uh yeah that's wild it's nice and clear isn't yeah is there a science behind that that you can explain like what's not really just like something in the glass and the prisms and the all that I don't really understand the theory behind here let me pop this out you can just hold it in front of you let's go like this ow ow what that's why yeah cool it looks more green when you're not welding yeah that's it yeah I agree yeah it's like it cleared up yeah you guys did that on purpose yeah yeah okay all right you got me as long as it lasts it'll last me another 10 years like this one did I'm on [Music] board
