shotguns and of course your football pads because guess what it's a gas shortage folks on may 7th hackers hacked into the colonial pipeline now why does this sound so familiar the colonial pipeline yeah that's because we covered it a while back it had been shut down after it leaked at least 1.2 million gallons of gasoline into a nature preserve in huntsville north carolina which also caused a gas shortage back in august now i remember so what happened this time so this time hacker shut down the pipeline to ransom five million dollars in cryptocurrency the pipeline was shut down for about six days but people took no time to look after numero uno hoarding and panic buying gasoline pumping it into anything they could find whoa whoa whoa wait wait what am i seeing here they're pumping into open containers just a quick psa folks don't do this um yes those red containers are you know what you're designed to put gasoline into but please do not put it into open-topped containers like just totes yeah because gas fumes are flammable they're flammable they're also not good to breathe in so for these people who are putting you know these open sloshy totes of gasoline in the back of their cars um you're probably gonna pass out while you're driving smash into something and oh wait that's already happened and and not only does you get in a car crash you get in a fiery car crash because now you have a car that's not only filled with gasoline in the way that it normally is it's filled with gasoline in totes and other things so yeah that actually has caused a couple of deaths already um because people were worried that they were going to run out of gas went to the place put tons of gas into stupid and then drove off and these two factors both the pipeline being shut down and these people who were hoarding it caused actual major gas shortages across the east coast the u.s but wait why did one pipeline going down lead to a huge gas shortage one pipeline zack it's the largest pipeline system for refined oil products in the united states two pipes stretching 5500 miles from texas to new york it supplies the east coast with 45 percent of its fuel that's kind of my point it seems like a kind of a big target and it's a huge point of failure whether the pipeline gets taken down by hackers or it just rusts itself a giant hole it's nearly 60 years old and over a hundred million people rely on it every single day now we've seen so many memes about snubby tesla owners and that they're just one power outage away from not being able to charge their cars but power can be generated on the roofs of our houses or you know if you live in an apartment building in solar fields or wind turbines that could be just down the street from us and you could store that energy in batteries that again could either be in your house or just down the street from you wouldn't we all feel a little bit better knowing that our livelihoods didn't rely on a 55 mile long tube buried in the ground or one canal or the stability of a foreign country yeah i can't believe that a 60 year old steel pipe is what we're all still relying on relying on practically with our lives i mean it got taken down for five days there are some places on the east coast where there was just no gas yeah so elon tweeted out on may 12th tesla has suspended vehicle purchases using bitcoin we are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for bitcoin mining and transactions especially coal which has the worst emissions of any fuel cryptocurrency is a good idea on many levels and we believe it has a promising future but this cannot come at great cost to the environment tesla will not be selling any bitcoin and we intend to use it for transactions as soon as mining transitions to more sustainable energy we are also looking at other cryptocurrencies that use less than one percent of bitcoin's energy per transaction but wait didn't tesla buy like over a billion dollars worth of bitcoin yeah and then they sold 10 of it so yeah they still own over a billion dollars with the bitcoin and now they're just gonna sit on it i mean elon was really gung-ho about bitcoin he changed his mind well he tweeted out this uh chart here which shows that the energy usage trend over the past few months is insane he says um and if you do the math here uh that would be about 500 terawatt hours annually to mine and transact bitcoin now for context the us uses about uh 3 600 terawatt hours per year why didn't he look into that before they bought the bitcoin we're going to talk about this on the investor club bonus story this week when we talk about doge but if you're wondering if elon's tweet did anything to bitcoin it dropped over two thousand dollars per coin or a hundred billion dollars in market cap in a matter of minutes but elon take it and then giveth uh he tweeted out working with doge developers to improve system transaction efficiency potentially promising and what do you think that did to doge prices i'm gonna guess it helped yeah it did uh market cap of doge went up 10 billion dollars after the tweet so the doge father says you're welcome just a quick thank you to all of you who hit the like button on our videos it really helped share those videos with people who might not have heard about tesla and it helps out the show a lot so just take one second hit the like button and let's move on so let's talk about the plaid elon had originally said that the new plaid deliveries of the model s would start in february but it's now may and so far we haven't heard word of anyone getting their model as plaid but the good news is that according to electrek some early refresh model s buyers are now getting updates from tesla that their plaids will be coming in early june so plat owners please send us videos we want to see the new ui the steering wheel the video games the acceleration everything please anything that you can point your phone out and show us we really want to see we also want to see this spoiler alert spoiler alert everybody if you haven't seen this new spoiler this is your alert a model s was spotted on laguna seca raceway with this crazy looking spoiler okay so a question is this gonna come with the plaid plus or is this just like an aftermarket thing like why are we seeing this we don't know we're pretty sure that this was tesla testing it so we don't think that anyone else this wasn't like a third party okay um but yeah the question is you know will this be just standard for plaid plus because if you go on the website right now and you look at plaid plus there is no spoiler like this could it be an option because again if you go on the website it's not there maybe they just threw it in they might throw it in i'm thinking maybe there's going to be like a race package where like if you're really serious like hey i do want to take this out on the track then you have to like ask for it why wouldn't it be on the website maybe tesla's quietly sending out emails as we speak or will in a couple weeks and say hey do you want the race package everyone's gonna want the race package well my guess is it'll be like an extra fifteen thousand dollars it'll have like upgraded brakes suspension this maybe better tires maybe even a body kit to make the you know back flare out a little bit i mean if you're getting the plaid plus you're gonna get the cake that's what i'm saying another question yeah if the plaid plus model s might get a spoiler would the roadster get a spoiler i mean i think we already saw it with a spoiler i don't know if it looked exactly like this um it could be that maybe this is just a roadster in disguise but maybe i don't know i mean you got to leave your comments down below because the truth probably will lie in some of your ideas now a lot of news agencies are reporting that tesla's sales are dropping in china well that's funny because a lot of korean news agencies are reporting that tesla is stealing extra sales in korea yeah tesla's been importing several thousand vehicles to korea every quarter for the past few years but korea recently rolled out a huge seventeen thousand dollar limited ed incentive seventeen thousand dollars per car per car so consumers would essentially be getting seventeen thousand dollars off in ev under a certain price uh above a certain price they'd get half off and above another price they wouldn't get anything off but tesla does fall under this 17 000 limit so if you get like a model 3 standard range plus you're going to be getting 17 000 off the price of your car now this incentive appears to have been to support hyundai's ioniq 5 ev launch but tesla just sent over 10 000 cars that they produced in china to take advantage of the incentive and took nearly half the pie scoring over 176 million dollars in incentives yes i mean this took 10 000 teslas out of china deliveries for one month which dropped deliveries there from 35 478 which we saw in march to 25 845 cars in april and so the media is oh no tesla's losing in china maybe it's due to that crazy lady in china but what the media simply fails to mention is that tesla moved the cars to korea and that's where they sold the cars yeah i mean as a result hyundai only produced 2600 ionic fives which is a quarter of their goal right now that's partially due to the chip supply but tesla totally took advantage of it and totally crushed it and if you want to share this clip over on the clips channel look the whole reason we made the clips channel was because there's this guy i used to work with who would constantly post flood to the company slack about tesla and i wish i could just respond with like a little link to shut him up instead of some long typed out diatribe well now you can take my diatribes and put them in a little link and send them along to your co-worker or uncle or whoever not in a jerky way but in a now you know kind of way so head over to the clips channel hit subscribe and every week you'll get little clips of the show which you can send over to people to shut them up so tesla tweeted out this little tweet on their twitter account configurator now live in hungary and romania tesla has a pop-up store in budapest and one in bucharest there are seven superchargers in hungary and already two so far in romania now you may be wondering if hungary and romania are big car markets so you know what's the big deal so let's take a look uh hungary has about 4 million cars on the road with sales of about 158 000 vehicles in 2019. romania has about 7 million cars on the road and sold about 161 000 in 2019. so to give you some sense of scale these are very similar numbers to new york state which has about 4.9 million cars on the road or norway which sold 142 000 cars in 2019. so effectively tesla just added another new york state and another norway to their expanding car market so these are two new european countries the thing that i love here is that unlike the united states where you kind of have to cater to the whole united states maybe you ignore north dakota sorry north dakota with europe there's you just seem to keep going yeah you know you're just like okay well we did hungry now let's do romania and they are car markets and you might be saying no one in romania's gonna buy a tesla zach and jesse but maybe someone in germany france italy is going to be like oh i can finally go visit my cousin in romania hang on why is no one in hungary and romania going to buy a tesla of course they are of course they are that's what i'm saying that's they're saying that i didn't say that so ford has announced the date for the unveiling of the electric f-150 lightning pickup truck all right so when's it gonna be unveiled it'll be this wednesday may 19th at 9 30 p.m eastern daylight time nice uh this truck should be on sale in the second half of 2022 and ford ceo jim farley said that the lightning will have a range of over 300 miles and a faster zero to 60 than a v8 ford f-150 oh so how fast is that that should be faster than about five seconds zero to sixty so hang on a second um cyber truck already released what their projected 0-60 times are do you remember what those are yes uh so if the base model was uh i think faster than six and a half seconds uh for the dual motor it was going to be faster than uh 4.5 and the tri-motor was going to be faster than 2.9 seconds i mean good to know good to know the lightning should also have dual motors and that'll give it all-wheel drive we don't have any price announced so that's a big bummer but hopefully hopefully we'll be able to talk about it next week after the unveiling maybe they'll tell us the projected prices maybe we're going to have to figure out which price means what um we also got to see a picture of the light bar and the side profile and it looks very much like an f-150 with a light bar on the front of it but all right i mean i'll be staying tuned this wednesday so that's cool so speaking of ford uh powered by tesla tweeted this out last week jim what i don't understand is if ford which i am a shareholder of is truly committed to ev in the future why don't we have an ev option on the new product like the bronco jim farley said why do you think we don't wait is that how we said it or why do you think we don't or why do you think we don't well which way did he say well he didn't say it he tweeted it he just why do you think we don't i don't know okay wait wait so reflection's important it is i mean commas are important if you said why comma do you think we don't then that would mean we do have an electric ford bronco he could also say why do you think we don't we we might have one but you don't know about it yet or like why do you think we don't have one because obviously we don't have one right so what did he mean i don't know not a psychic look let's talk about the ford bronco for a second yeah they revived this brand that had you know afforded let die it was never a super popular brand to be honest it never sold a lot of numbers the highest it ever sold i think was 120 000 in a year and then it just kind of dipped so uh they revived it i think because ford is desperate they need brands they don't want to put time and money into you know decades long into building up a brand they just want to turn on a brand again so they turned on the bronco it looks pretty cool but it's a gas car and i think it would be super smart to make it electric and it would have been super smart in my mind to just make it only electric yeah but they probably weren't ready and there were probably a lot of guys at ford who loved the bronco yeah and were like the bronco man my granddad used to have a bronco so yeah i mean i think that's why we didn't see an eevee bronco today um but hey maybe we will or maybe we won't why was he thinking was he floating a balloon here so that we could like he could gauge what the people wanted it could be interesting to juxtapose jim farley's tweets with elon's tweets elon is typically pretty clear like that's one thing that i actually never realized he's usually very clear you usually either says like yes or smiley face he uses a lot of punctuation a lot of punctuation an emoji would have helped here right like a winky face yeah i would still probably be confused with the winky face but yeah not very clear i don't know what he means he could have said why do you think we don't coming soon or something and then in a lightning bolt right but he didn't right i jim i don't know but to continue on with ford ford has just announced some new features coming through their board power up platform yeah ford said ford power-up enhancements already have been sent to more than a hundred thousand 2021 f-150 and mustang mock e customers since late march new sketch for touch screen drawing and simple gaming coming to mock e soon ford is also working with amazon to add alexa hands-free experience offering complimentary access to key features for up to three years now they're adding a sketch pad and they're going to be adding simple games to the screen i wonder i wonder where they got this idea but i think it's a pretty easy thing to get ahead of tesla on because i'm sorry did you say get ahead of tesla on yeah what do you how are you going to get ahead of tesla they're starting years behind i mean look tesla didn't like have to develop a whole bunch of stuff to make these games that go in the car they basically just went to some mobile app developers and were like hey uh you have like a mobile app that i guess elon really likes um or you have like an arcade game that's easy to port um let's just put it in the car easy peasy lemon squeezy we're all done you know we'll get some interns to go work on that project and then we'll roll it out to the whole fleet when we're done and it'll be nice little update and since there's no competition when tesla did that it was like wow there's games in the car that's never happened before all ford has to do get some better games than tesla which i don't think is very hard get some candy crush in there okay slow down here okay bronco uh better games than tesla tesla has a crapload of games already first of all and we don't know how powerful this computer is the only way you're going to get better games in tesla is if this computer is better than tesla that's not true that's not true you do not need a more powerful computer to play better games oh so you're saying that the selection of games isn't that hot it's extraordinarily limited i mean do i really want to play backgammon in my car gotcha when back gaming came out cool now i can play backup no i wasn't able to even play back gaming i don't even have back game i agree i think tesla should have a vp of special operations which is in charge of thinking ahead of all the things that people would like and not just thinking what elon would like here's the thing though you add a little pinch a competition and now tesla could very easily get ahead of ford and then we could have well it already is ahead of ford yes but i mean like in this hypothetical reality where ford does a good job with the implementation of the games which i understand take that with a grain of salt but starting there i think that you know if ford comes out with like candy crush and farmville and a couple of other games i mean let's be honest uh tesla has uh you know fallout shelter an old game i would argue but you know an interesting one one that you can come back to time after time i think more interesting to me is actually the uh alexa integration i think that obviously tesla's not going to do alexa they're going to do google um because i don't know i don't know if they are going to do that i mean i i can't tell you the number of times where i'd go hey um would you uh you know i wanted to say like you know turn on the heat in my car because i can do that in my house i can say like set the temperature to 75 and it'll do that but it won't do it in my car i can do that in the car i can say boop set the temperature to you know 69 degrees and it'll do that but so so i mean i think some kind of integration uh would be smart for tesla to go after but it is a little tougher here because amazon has that connection to ford now uh because they both kind of invested in rivien right so currently in china tesla has catl supply its lfp or lithium iron phosphate batteries lfp batteries don't contain cobalt and they use iron in the cathode instead of nickel so they're a bit cheaper and less energy dense now according to reuters it appears that tesla is in talks with chinese battery maker eve energy to become a second supplier of lfp batteries reuters said tesla inc is in talks with chinese battery maker eve energy to add the firm to its shanghai factory supply chain for people familiar with the matter said as it seeks to boost procurement of lower cost batteries three of the sources said tesla has been working closely with eve to get its batteries to meet its requirements as it aims to bring in the supplier as what one of the sources called a check and balance against catl so eve energy is a 20 year old company with a market cap of 182 billion dollars i think it's very smart to have a little competition in the mix um so it's pretty smart for tesla to work with uh just another battery company so you can go oh really cattle you want to screw us on that deal well maybe we'll go somewhere else another thing just to think about it as tesla interweaves itself into the chinese economy it's going to be very hard for the chinese government to put any kibosh on tesla as these other car manufacturers like neo complain like it's not fair it's going to be like well they're using all these chinese suppliers we can't just shut them down right so here's a story about tesla corn and credits in 2005 under the bush administration a law was passed creating a renewable fuel credit that was designed to pay refiners a credit for mixing ethanol into their fuel and reduce the us dependency on foreign oil that credit would then trickle down to corn farmers from which ethanol is made what does this have to do with tesla well according to a story that came out in reuters last week tesla is seeking to enter the multi-billion dollar u.s renewable credit market hoping to profit from the bidet administration's march towards new zero emission goals two sources familiar with the matter set so what does this mean i mean how much money could tesla make well finding out how much is paid in these rin credits is not easy to find according to reuters which did a deep dive into the records of five refiners last august their reporting revealed that these five refiners paid about 268 million dollars in just the second quarter of 2020 for these compliance credits and that's just five refiners there are at least eight refiners that we know of that have applied this year to be a part of the program right so if we do some quick math we see that just the credits from these five refiners totals over a billion dollars a year reuters goes on to say however it is likely to anger some in the u.s refining industry who would need to buy the credits known as rans generated by tesla and other alternative fuel providers essentially subsidizing an electric car company that seeks to put petrochemical refiners out of business so this could be a serious source of income for tesla i mean much like the hundreds of millions of dollars in emission credits that they are now getting from other auto companies like uh honda and stalantis right and again this is the story that gets distorted in the mainstream fudd press all the time right their story is tesla couldn't be profitable without government credits and so if you walk away from the headline you're like yeah see these guys don't sell any cars uh whereas the true headline should be something like tesla jiu-jitsu's its competition and now oil companies by making them pay tesla yeah i think it's really powerful that you're using credits to actually hurt your competitor and so you know this this idea that like they're not profitable they'd be profitable anyway it's just why not take more from your competition in this case oil companies right so here's a video gmc just released of the hummer ev suv driving through the desert proving ground in yuma arizona and moab utah cool typical marketing video but uh you noticed that there wasn't any trim on that never never mind never mind yeah gm wanted to talk about their one pedal driving okay okay so they said one pedal driving offers a great feeling of control by optimizing the regenerative braking friction braking and drive motor torque all through the accelerator pedal drivers will quickly realize the benefits once they try it off road with terrain mode that same one pedal driving control is adapted with unique calibrations for speed limited off-road driving helping the driver to negotiate steep grades rock crawling and other challenging terrain without having to toggle between the accelerator and the brake pedal now we actually shared some of this video a couple weeks ago from a viewer who spotted one of these hummers doing a crab walk on the highway after obviously doing some of this uh off-roading now i want to get to the one pedal driving in a second but first i just want to talk about the no trim on this car yeah i mean if they had wrapped these hummers in this video with like camouflage then i'd be fine with the no trim but this just looks like a mistake i mean did it fall off did it break i don't know anything about off-roading so maybe you're gonna say like zac and jesse you idiots like obviously any time you go off-roading you take the trim off you take the trim off so it doesn't get damaged that could be i don't know i don't go i don't live in you know moab utah so i don't know so you can let us know what the heck's going on in the comments below i want to talk a little bit about the one pedal driving before we get into some of these off-roading stats they're talking about one pedal driving we're used to one pedal driving with tesla right you take your foot off the accelerator brings you to a stop but it what it does not do is a lot of brake blending it'll do some at the very end which brake blending again that's where they mix in the regen braking from the motors and actual physical you know brake pads some cars have done this in the past i believe when we tried the um the e-golf vw's e-golf it had brake blending so like if it was cold out it would always give you the same regen feel response even though sometimes if like the battery couldn't accept any regen it would just break blend and don't test this break blend at the very end when they come to a complete stop yeah it's just for that that final bit and then it'll hold he'll hold um you like that what they're talking about here i think is going to be a beefed up version of that so i mean if you're going up like a 45 degree slope as they show in the video what you don't want to do in a normal gas car is let off the gas let off the brake because you're just gonna roll backwards so what i think they're talking about is that with one pedal even if you're on a 45 degree slope you'd be able to smoothly transition up the slope which i think is actually pretty cool yeah and i think that a lot of uh off-roady people are going to be like oh ev's rock because of this feature yeah so for those of you who want some off-road specs here they are uh some cool talking here about their water forwarding depth or their max approach angles just to point out for the rest of us who may not be doing the off-road stuff the first edition starts at over a hundred thousand dollars but that is sold out the lowest price version should start at 80 000 and we'll have 250 miles of range and we'll start deliveries in the spring of 2024. that's um three years from now that's a long ways off so comment below why you think the trim was missing because i would like to know if it's just like a normal thing you do or maybe someone knows that gmc is working on some new trim on terrafactory texas video on friday he caught this on camera while doing his stellar drone work yeah that's the gigafactory in texas no no no look closer zoom enhance wait what what is that on the second floor uh that is the cyber truck so they're making the cyber truck in the factory already uh oh my god this is big news why don't this is our first time i don't think that they made that cyber truck at the gigafactory in austin so why is it there i think the bigger clue is um that there is this stage scaffolding in front of it so might we be planning an event tesla oh wait that's that's a stage looks like a stage to me so maybe when once they're done building the building or maybe it'll happen next week for all we know tesla might do a little bit of an unveiling a little bit of a release yeah maybe this is going to be the event where he talks about the newly designed cyber truck yeah i mean he's kind of walked back a couple of the things that he said i mean i think that they are going to slightly tweak the design but not in any kind of noticeable way where if it's on a stage like that you'd be like oh of course wait but do you think that's the cyber truck that was in new york last week almost certainly i think i think that there is one driving cyber truck in the world right now it is a prototype it's the one that we saw in new york we're gonna probably see more pictures of it later in the show um i think it's that one and i think that they just moved it down to texas again and they're gonna leave it in there until whenever or maybe they needed it for planning i think this is going to happen soon because i don't think you'd want to leave the cyber truck in the factory like this because i mean like that means every worker is going to want to walk by and take a picture with it another idea that i just thought of could it be that that scaffolding is not a stage it was just to get the cyber truck into the factory on the second level so that way you could get some marketing shots of it driving through a cyber punk looking environment oh maybe i mean a a uncomplete factory is pretty cyberpunk-looking that's true and all you need is a couple of the workers to dress up in leather jackets and it's gonna be pretty blade runner in there oh i see so that would be a landing platform for your crane to put it on without any chance there is a crane in that shot so i'm saying this all right comment below what you guys think and tesla time news is sponsored by cybertruck owners club there you'll find a crowdsource reservation tracker that you can update and find your place in line check out their website for cyber truck news discussions like this and community for cyber truck enthusiasts and future owners i mean that would be the place to talk about this yes all right so there are those out there that say we will never have autonomous driverless cars well to that i say uh we already have them we've reported on auto x before this is the chinese company that has a fleet of over a hundred fully driverless and i mean no safety driver anywhere in the car autonomous robo taxis yeah they launched in january and it's now been a hundred days of continuous operations for the company in shenzhen china professor zhang zhang xiao the founder and ceo of auto x said the first 100 days have been a huge step forward for us and for the entire industry in china we have learned so much from the feedback from our passengers about how to continuously improve our service and make the driverless journeys and fantastic experience shenzhen is the first chinese city to allow fully autonomous cars beijing and guangzhou on the other hand only allow autonomous vehicles if there is a safety driver present now i hear what many of you might be saying how do we know how well these cars actually did well we have two hours of non-stop footage of one of their cars driving around shenzhen it encounters all kinds of things construction double parked vehicles bicycles mopeds motorcycles crossing illegally in front of it unprotected left turns oversized trucks squeezing into its lane narrow streets pedestrians and bad drivers but i will say the streets as you can see here are pretty quiet and the footage has been sped up 4x so it looks like the car is going fast but by our estimation once we slowed it down to normal speed it looks like the car is not topping more than 30 miles an hour and there are no customers in this footage so it looks like a pre-planned pre-mapped route now these vehicles appear to be chrysler pacificas uh these are the same vehicles used by waymo and they're not all electric and obviously auto x has chosen to go with lidar but it's still exciting to see autonomous driving happening on this scale let us know what you think in the comments below yeah i mean i'm pretty excited because this is a big skit you know 100 cars 100 days and they're getting tons and tons of good data so i'm like more power to them great write them in the comments down below zach i'm sorry listen to directions so on last week's patreon bonus stories we told our patrons about this guy who had been driving or rather been driven by his tesla while he sat in the back seat he had been flaunting his non-driving to other drivers all over the bay area of california we and others had urged that he be caught because this is illegal well as it turns out 24 hours later 25 year old param sharma was arrested by the california highway patrol while he was again in the back seat of his tesla on the i-80 in oakland on two counts of reckless driving and disobeying a police officer he's due in court on july 6 and prom says he'll continue driving this way now we have more to talk about on the patreon bonus stories about this uh so yeah we'll talk to you about that there now we're a bit hesitant to report on things related to fisker yeah i mean fisker has a record of making bold claims and then backtracking for instance fisker claimed that they had a solid state battery breakthrough and would have cars with 500 miles of range and one minute charging back in 2017. so when fisker announced a new partnership with foxconn back in february we hung back to see if it was real and to wait for more concrete details now fisker and foxconn have announced some more details about their partnership codenamed project pair or personal electric automotive revolution so it appears that the plan is to first release the fisker ocean suv that we've talked about before on the show that'll come out in q4 of 2022 in europe then this new vehicle which no one has seen yet but which they claim has achieved an exterior design freeze will be unveiled at the la auto show in november and will start production in q4 of 2023. yeah they said that they'll be building this new model in the us first even though they haven't picked the manufacturing location yet which seems highly unlikely to me that they can reach that goal in such a short amount of time but here's the interesting part they say that project pair will have a starting price of less than thirty thousand dollars before incentives yeah a couple weird things here for me number one why aren't they building this in china that's where foxconn's strength lies i mean i've got to believe that they can get manufacturing up and running in china way faster than they can here in the us number two fisker has only delivered one production vehicle since he started in 2007 and he only made 2 500 of those so again i take everything that henrik fisker says with a big grain of salt and then number three starting price under 30 000 that's uh amazing i mean we haven't seen the specs so maybe it has no range and no power but i mean yeah there are evs that have prices under 30 000 but the specs usually are not you know a typical car category it's usually like oh and it has a range of 60 miles and you go okay that's usable in some circumstances but not all circumstances yeah my guess is that there'll be some starting model with a low price that doesn't have much in terms of never come out your never comes out right and then you know it'll move up from there mercedes-benz has unveiled the new concept vehicle last week the eqt basically mercedes wants to get into the minivan market it looks like now it seems a little bit late to me uh weren't minivans big like 20 years ago 30 years ago but maybe minivans are becoming a thing in europe uh european viewers please comment below and let us know i mean is this like a new thing anyway mercedes will be launching the seven seat t-class minivan as a gas vehicle first in 2022 and then hints at an electric or eqt version following later but no timeline has been released also no specs have been released other than these images and some sizes including the length width and height two interesting tidbits though uh there will be a sliding door on each side so you know the kids can get in and they can access the middle row where there will be enough room for three car seats so for obviously families who have a lot of kids so yeah we're just gonna have to wait on the details for the electric version i mean are they trying to make minivans like cool now by making it a mercedes you're like willing because remember that what kind of killed the minivan for most people was like i'm never driving a minivan it was like you know a soccer mom car are they trying to go for like oh well now it's cool well keep in mind in europe soccer is a lot more popular so that's track could be their their their angle all right it's time for going green sponsored by ecoware we now plant 10 trees for every order thanks to our friends at the eden restoration projects and um i'm wearing one of our new products oh is that a v-neck that is a v-neck yeah uh thank you to our european viewers who finally let us know that uh you know this typical american t-shirt style was not popular in europe and that you much prefer v-necks hey whatever floats your boat i don't know anything so you got to tell us pretty much anything i will say for clipping on a lav mic these are way better yeah fits right there anyway we've got new designs uploaded every week we carbon offset the manufacturing the shipping and the life cycle of your purchase we plant 10 trees for every order then we help cap a well so if you want to help the planet and help the show head on over to ecoware [Music] so even though the us currently has 156 offshore wind projects in the pipeline it sadly only has two tiny offshore wind farms built and operating so one here in block island and one here off the coast of virginia wait so that's it that's all the offshore wind that we have in the u.s i mean what's that blue area you had circled well that's the good news that's the vineyard wind project a joint venture of spain's ibra darola and copenhagen infrastructure partners they'll have 84 12 megawatt ge heliad x turbines and will generate 800 megawatts of energy uh for those of you are like i don't know what that means that's enough to power 400 000 homes but we've been hearing about this vineyard wind project for years hasn't it been blocked yeah the last administration did block it and that's why it was delayed for years but the biden administration just announced last week that it has received the green light and should be built and producing by 2024. the secretary of commerce gina raimondo announced that the us's goal is to have 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030. okay but i need some perspective i mean 30 gigawatts sounds like a lot i mean i think i can go back in time with that much power um but is it a lot of power well let's look at what's been built globally so far as of data from the end of 2020 there was 35.3 gigawatts of total worldwide offshore wind capacity built and as you can see from this chart it's going up fast uh the number one country is the uk with 29 of the world's offshore wind so a little over 10 gigawatts so to answer your question yes 30 gigawatts is a lot if we can get 30 gigawatts of generation up and running by 2030 that would not be a bad goal at all and i mean looking at this map of annual global offshore wind speeds where red is heavy wind speeds and blue is light winds i mean the us has what looks like a fantastic amount of windy shoreline yeah according to nrel the us has more than 2 000 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity that's enough to generate 7 200 terawatt hours per year that's about twice what the us used in 2020. wait so you could what you could do you could put offshore wind along just the coasts just the coast and they're way offshore too right they don't see them it's not on the beach right we're talking you kids you don't even see them you look out from the beach most times you don't see them and then you could take every single power plant the hoover dam every coal burning peaker plant solar power on every roof you could throw it away throw it all away as long as you had some batteries you're good to go and you'd be able to power the entire us actually two u.s two us's okay yeah all right our buddy eli is here again with the starman report spacex is planning its very first orbital starship flight and this is going to be exciting so spacex plans to launch a prototype starship vehicle from its usual location near boca chica texas and then do a round-the-world uncrewed flight that will splash down off the coast of hawaii an official launch date has not yet been announced but elon has said via twitter that he plans to conduct an orbital starship flight this year with the flight spacex plans to land the super heavy booster 20 miles off the coast in the gulf of mexico and then fly starship into orbit and back down for a powered targeted landing about 62 miles off the coast of kauai it's going to be interesting to see what kind of video footage we have or spacex is going to have boats out there in the near landing area to record it i think that would be really exciting if they do so we could watch this starship kind of just let itself down softly and tip over into the ocean but we'll have to see once that official launch gets closer this mission is an important data collection project for spacex so they can learn more about the entry dynamics of starship because the fight profile is extremely difficult to accurately predict computationally in a computer simulation i know it's 2021 and a lot of people think that by now we should be able to simulate everything but some of orbital dynamics and experimental ships and ships with new designs we just don't have the type of data to run as effective of a model as you can get by doing a test flight this is also why i and a number of others in the space community are so critical of blue origin because their entire test model doesn't allow for failure which means it takes you a lot longer to make the same level of development and innovation as somebody who's willing to let a rocket explode just to find out what the data is going to say we also have some news coming from the red planet as china just successfully landed its first rover on mars becoming only the second nation in history to accomplish this task after circling the red planet for more than three months the tn1 lander with a rover attached separated from the orbiter and began its plunge towards the surface after surviving the seven minute atmospheric entry challenge it was confirmed on twitter that the landing was successful there was some consternation in the space community about how the release was handled because the chinese national space administration has not yet officially confirmed the success of the landing but it was announced on social media by a state-run china global television network that the landing was a success the world is watching to see more details as they're released but it's exciting to see a new resident join the surface of mars thank you so much for watching this segment of the star man report and back to you zach and jesse thank you so much eli please check out eli's channel the starman report for great space news and you can get his really cool starman suit and the adventures of starman graphic novels at starmangifts.com alright it's time for into the future so subaru has just announced the subaru saltera suv an all-electric suv that will go on sale in 2022 in the u.s the term soltera hang on hang on this segment is called into the future it's supposed to be about futuristic technologies well for subaru who has never had a bev before this is futuristic so subaru says the name soltera was created using the latin words for sun and earth to represent subaru's commitment to deliver traditional suv capabilities in an environmentally responsible package so you're telling me that subaru has developed their own drivetrain and battery systems and they'll have a car ready by 2022 that's not long no subaru has partnered with toyota in a joint venture to develop a dedicated all-electric platform named the e-subaru global platform or the scoop they say the joint venture combines subaru's expertise in all-wheel drive technology with toyota's vehicle electrification technology which i'm sorry i know it takes a lot of work to make a gas car uh have four-wheel drive slip differentials and all that kind of stuff but uh you don't need that for electric well none of that technology applies when you're going to electric because i mean it's a whole new you have to think from a whole new way so like what is subaru bringing to the table i think they're bringing nothing to the table i think they're no they're bringing their brand to the table okay they're brand new everyone loves subaru whatever the heck their slogan is and lots of people swear by subarus and they they drive them and well but as your point about the 2022 that's when they say it will go on sale oh i see so it'll probably go on sale like december 2022 and then they won't actually start deliveries until mid 2023 right that's my guess which is pretty pathetic considering that you're already taking another company's powertrain technology but but hey subaru i mean this is big news subaru's actually going electric i i mean this is big news for vermont because subaru is like the most popular car in vermont and now you could finally like drive an electric subaru which i just think is so much more on brand for vermont right um yeah at least for like burlington vermont i know all right it's time for sunspots so our buddy kevin in colorado sent us this story it's about two of our favorite things solar and legos this uh 375 piece lego solar farm has pollinator friendly ground cover honeybee hives grazing sheep inverter control box and engineer site manager grazer so if 10 000 people with a free lego ideas account vote for this idea then lego will consider making it in a real world kit you can go to this link down below we'll put it um and it's already received two thousand votes so we just need another eight thousand let's do this it took me like 30 seconds to sign up for this i voted for it um and then if lego starts having this in their stores maybe kids and people start thinking about like whoa let's do aggro voltaics uh playing yeah i totally love this idea it's a very cute little set and i mean this is what i like about lego they've kind of democratized lego so yeah i mean uh if you took a look at the view number of the video if you do this we can do it and it didn't take long to set up you don't have to like verify with your phone number and all that it really was easy it was free and easy to do and don't forget we did this once before with the spacex kit right uh and that worked too so wow let's just do it and if you want to put real solar panels on your real house uh you can head over to energypal these are the guys who know everything about solar on houses and they will help answer your questions for free all you have to do is click the link down below and let them know that zach and jesse sent you i wonder if they'd also help you with your lego kit too if you'd be like do i use a four piece or an eight piece i've talked with lincoln i feel like he's that kind of guy you know all right it's time for video contributor stories we got two this week jesse our first one is a video from our friends at tesla owners club arkansas about six new level two chargers the toca member chris flores got installed in lonoke arkansas [Music] [Music] so supporting evs is not just supporting the technology it's supporting cleaner air cleaner water a safer transportation less noise pollution and also just a more convenient lifestyle so i and many of the other people here want to see our local and state governments uh start taking the initiative and start passing pro ev legislation here in arkansas he is actually right now uh he's like a little kid in a toy store i get to drive this uh tesla back here with him and he's pushing all the bells and whistles but right now he's actually really seeing uh his vision play out uh in front of him and that's really cool and he is literally the poster child of what you can do as a citizen if you get informed and you get engaged [Music] and speaking of tesla owners club arkansas you can now find their branded gear on ecoware yeah and if you belong to other tesla owners clubs and would like to have your gear available on ecoware so that we can take care of the printing and the shipping and the carbon off setting and planting 10 trees for every order then reach out to bobby at boston oceancompany.com and we'll get you set up and now our second video contributor story what do we got we've got our buddy tony you might recognize him from an earlier video contributor story he went to go visit an electric tractor zach and jesse big big hello from from down south we're at this beautiful peak family farm uh beautiful ranch and we're doing a monarch tractor demo we're talking about how we can make hemp production renewable and sustainable regenerative yeah with monarch tractor so getting rid of fossil fuel farming and going right into the uh you know maybe into the grid but maybe over to renewable renewable farming agri-voltaics baby yeah totally sun-powered farming yeah awesome we had a really good time at the demo really impressed with the technology really excited for the future and you learned about uh monarch tractor through their show yeah through zach and jesse's show now you know well i guess i guess that's it now you know now you know wait so that was the chief farming officer of monarch tractor with our friend tony and thank you tony for going to actually visit the track because i mean it's cove but we couldn't go out to california and visit and see if the tractor actually worked tony couldn't show us any footage of the tractor itself but he said that it was actually driving around autonomously yeah and if you don't know what we're talking about uh go check out we'll put the link up here of our interview with monarch tractor so you can check that out it's an electric tractor all right it's time for the patreon bonus stories we're gonna be talking about all sorts of cool things including the guy that we said should be arrested and then i guess we got him arrested [Music] hey everybody we're back from the patreon bonus stories it's time for the shout outs uh who do we got this week jess we've got brighton m sergio ruiz william brown elliot safar bob lefetan glenn hiller timothy lewis chris lemetico matthew pendergraft ryan gonzalez robbie oliver groenenberg nikolai marius ionas kevin whitley ronnie ward elst shanks coulomb ferdi joe and francie thank you so much for supporting this channel we cannot do it without you all right it's time for elon's tweets of the week and elon said wario was my fave eva cyberfox said elon great respect to you for openly admitting that you have asperger's syndrome it means a lot you have shown that regardless of any inherent or acquired difficulty people should not perceive it as an obstacle to achieving their goals elon said absolutely and i just want to point out that the opening monologue elon's opening monologue for snl got way more views than almost any opening monologue in the history of snl the only one that got more was dave chappelle yeah um and that should tell you a lot also if you go to google trends and you type in asperger's you have a huge huge spike um on saturday night uh because that is when a lot of people were starting to look it up i think that it's really gonna be so impactful for so many people around the world um who have autism and you have this guy who is one of the richest people in the world who openly admitted on public television that he has asperger's syndrome yeah it's estimated that over one in a hundred boys has asperger's so i think that it's going to be very impactful i don't think that we're going to see any news stories about it we're only going to see complaints about like he wasn't technically the only person who had aspergers and who hosted saturday night live if you look at dan aykroyd and yeah yeah yeah there's all that stuff and well he shouldn't have said aspergers you should have said on autism it's like yes all of this is technically true but i think for a lot of people it's going to be very impactful we're not going to see necessarily the reverberations of that until way later on down the road elon musk said spacex launching satellite doge one to the moon next year uh he said mission paid for by doge the first crypto in space and the first meme in space to the moon is it really gonna be the first meme in space i don't know paige bailey said i've experienced more peer pressure to buy crypto than to do drugs to be honest elon said tim kulpin said dogecoin is democratizing the hustle elon said exactly blockfolio said elon musk we shall harvest the energy from the sphere of hot plasma in the sky radiating electromagnetic waves this planet's largest turbulent bodies of water and even the force of wind itself investors what will we do with all this power elon musk mind dogecoin and elon just laughed at this tweet he just again it's humor people he's laughing at it flying dollars said elon is choosing doge because dogecoin is better than bitcoin in many fundamental ways dogecoin has faster transaction speeds lower fees and less environmental impact than bitcoin doge is affordable for regular folks because of its high supply people's crypto elon musk elon said ideally doge speeds up block time 10 times increases block size 10 times and drops fee 100 times then it wins hands down so a lot of improvements that need to be made uh in the dogecoin la shan said 10 megabyte blocks every six seconds with fees so low that anyone can spam attack the network with very little spent on fees elon said for those bad at math this guy a hundred times higher transaction volume with 100 times lower fees means total fees earned stay same low fees and high volume are needed to become currency of earth long elon said why not just make a crypto from scratch that does everything you want technically and has a lot of dev support and doesn't have high concentration of ownership at least initially elon said only if doge can't do it big pain in the neck to create another one prenate said elon how would you solve the major concentration problem of dogecoin and then he put up this chart showing that a few people own a lot of it elon said my understanding is that the big accounts are exchanges would be good to confirm though i'm told the biggest one is robin hood and then elon put out a poll do you want tesla to accept doge and uh 78 of people said yes yeah that's almost four million people responding now we're going to talk a little bit more about dogecoin over on our investor club bonus story if you want to check that out you can head over to patreon.com now you know sign up for the 10 level and you'll get access to the investor club slack channel lots and lots of uh live streams that we do from time to time and uh yeah interviews with the ceos and so forth so uh yeah head over to patreon check it out and we'll be right back continuing on with the tweets there was this one from board elon musk and we we're not sure if this is actually his account or not uh he tweeted out oh the gas shortages around the country that's a shame too bad there isn't a car company that might be able to help you with that gary black said now how about that fsd version 9 beta expansion and subscription launch that's what we're all waiting for elon elon said we had to focus on removing radar and confirming safety that release goes out next week to us production then a week or two to polish pure vision full self-driving and version 9 beta will release difference between version 8 and version 9 is gigantic so reading between the lines i think we're seeing version 9 in three weeks now that's elon time who knows but elon did say in this next tweet subscription rolls out in about a month so i i have to think that those are happening around the same time i don't know if that means that we're all going to get access to version 9 full self driving well we got some more information here neural net neil says any details on the version 9 beta expansion is it still going to be people selected by tesla who have applied elon said i think we're maybe a month or two away from wide beta but these things are hard to predict accurately the work we had to do for pure vision driving was needed for full self-driving so much more progress has been made than it would seem and leo williams said very exciting will purevision eliminate the phantom breaking with bridges and overpasses elon said yes oh that would be nice and viv said any update regarding smart summon functionality in europe fingers crossed elon said end of the year along with full self-driving provided we get regulatory approval smart summon is just a subset of full self-driving whole mars catalog said the magic of elon time is taking something that used to seem impossible and far off in the future and making it feel like it's actually late and then eric berger tweeted out question do you think it's important to do end-to-end integrated avionics and software testing elon said yes hardware in the loop testing of software is essential and by the way eric berger is the author of liftoff which is our next now you know book club book so you can join our book club over on patreon where we have a monthly live stream virtual book club meeting to discuss a variety of books and elon tweeted out live feed of starlink mission so i just want you guys to know that you can go to spacex.com launches and watch all of their launches it's super fun all right we had a poll last week what do we ask we asked does tesla need a pr department and this of course was in reference to our in-depth uh a couple weeks ago most people said that they wanted something whether it was called a pr department or not they definitely wanted some kind of department that would right the wrongs uh done by most media which was funny although quite a few people said that it doesn't really matter it's kind of interesting all right it's time for community mail time an electric investor wrote to us and said tesla is a sleeping giant make no mistake and yes a long list of profoundly important people had aspergers and alexander got some great photos of the cyber truck in the meat packing district of new york city last week including this photo of the side view camera hidden in the wheel skirt and this camera here hidden under the front bumper never saw those before and our buddy daniel also got some great pictures of the cyber truck i really like this one looks really cool so nice to uh have the public be able to see the cyber truck i think it's uh it's gonna sell itself so does the vw id3 make the best student driver car well maybe not you see it's got so much torque that if your student hits the accelerator instead of the brake well this could happen luckily nobody was hurt last week when a student in utrecht netherlands was learning to drive they were cornering and hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal and ended up on top of this parked convertible thank you to michael who sent us this story michael says they now have ev schools in the netherlands and has seen two id3s being used for these schools in his neighborhood now i would argue that you could get in there with the firmware um have student driver mode that'd be great and then oh i slammed on the accelerator it should go like just put the car in park and say hi there looks like you just slammed on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake here is a little simulation to show what would have happened we got this message from our friends at tesla owners club san joaquin valley uh they said they made a little tesla fans birthday ludacris so when tesla owners club sjv president joe received a last-minute inquiry from the aunt of little annabelle wondering if it would be possible for a couple teslas to drive by for her birthday party because she's a huge fan he put out the call to their members and they answered back with only three days notice they had 15 cars from all over the valley from fairfield to fresno the family and the tesla owners club members had smiles from ear to ear engaging with the community and inspiring a sustainable future is what tesla owner clubs are all about how awesome is that that's so nice and one of our viewers made an egg in a hole with that uh cookie cutter that we were talking about from our friends at mockup oh right these are the uh cookie cutters that you can make those cool tesla car cookies with yeah and uh yeah you don't just have to make cookies apparently also if you know i'm hungry if you don't know what i'm talking about egg in a hole um magic one-eyed sandwich egg in a basket uh put down in the comments below what you call it it's like where you just take a slice of bread and you put a hole in it and you put the egg in the hole so what are we gonna call it now if it's not egg and a hole is it like tesla and a t egg and a tea no we could still call it egg tesla everyone calls it something different that's the point i know but can't we have a new name because of the tea sure put put your comments down below whatever you think anyway you can get these cookie cutters or egg and a hole cutters for yourself we'll put the link down below um really cool our friend ally was just visiting the las vegas convention center and got this footage of model wise going into the tunnel and i think we have a breaking story here if you look very carefully at the driver of the white model y you see that they're not using their hands so i think that we might have the first footage of the cars driving autonomously in the las vegas loop yeah ali says that the boring company has about 80 model wise and should be opening to the public in july thank you ali so if anyone's going to las vegas in july you know what you have to do remember to shoot it in landscape all right it's time for supercharger
