Tesla’s Insane New Roadster

today we're talking about the most recent tesla news including cyber truck production and design updates from elon some insane roadster updates from elon the federal tax credit for tesla's tick tock being added to tesla's and more so let's get into it first up today tesla has released a new software update that adds a number of integrations including tick tock in china tesla released their new year update in china saying quote new year of the aux over-the-air upgrade brings a different entertainment experience in the new year tiktok officially landed on tesla vehicles qq music lyrics display function voice recognition function optimization there are more surprises waiting for you to discover new year something different the biggest of those updates mentioned is tick tock which you can see in this official video released by tesla scrolling tick tock in a tesla sounds pretty hilarious but it's growing in popularity every day so it's very possible we could see it soon in the us as well right now it's only on teslas in china but tesla has been known to add features in china before adding them in the us in the past so it's very possible we could get it in an update very soon i don't see why they wouldn't add it if they already have the software ready to go in china but time will tell speaking of tick tock i actually just joined tick tock so if you want some incredibly short tesla content you can follow me at ryanshot tech on tick tock next up evgo just announced that they will be expanding their integration of tesla connectors at their chargers in the united states currently most evgo charging stations include dc fast charging with ccs tesla has their own connector on their cars and has not made a ccs adapter yet meaning that if you're in a tesla and you go to an evgo charging station you'll either not be able to charge at all or you'll have to use level 2 charging which is very very slow on the road tesla has a huge advantage for their supercharger network but in certain areas where there are no superchargers or it's more convenient to use another charging network evgo will be a great option for tesla owners evgo announced that they are partnering with tesla to add their connectors to over 600 charging stations saying quote evgo will deploy more than 400 integrated tesla connectors at existing evgo stations with an additional 200 connectors reserved for new stations planned for 2021 in key cities including san francisco los angeles san diego seattle denver dallas austin washington dc salt lake city and miami the only thing is that apparently you'll still be limited to 50 kilowatt charging speeds which is one-fifth the speed of tesla's v3 superchargers so for the time being you'll be able to charge and won't need an adapter but your charging speeds at an evgo station will be slow it's the first step in the right direction for sure and adds to a long list of expanding charging options for tesla owners on the road but i'll be a lot more excited once those specs are at least a little bit faster than 50 kilowatts if you're looking to buy a tesla there may be good news coming up for ev incentives the current federal ev incentive program has phase out stages and limits the number of cars by a particular company that can use the incentive previously you could buy a tesla and get a 7 500 tax credit but since tesla has sold more electric cars than anyone they ran out first this has been somewhat of an advantage for other ev makers since a car like the mustang mach e qualifies for the 7 500 tax credit but none of tesla's cars do well a bill has officially been introduced called the growing renewable energy and efficiency now act conveniently abbreviated to green it will reform the federal ev tax incentive and is on track to pass what this new bill would do is reopen access for car makers who passed the previous cap of two hundred thousand vehicles to qualify for the federal incentive up to six hundred thousand vehicles the tax credit is slightly reduced coming in at seven thousand dollars but if it passes which it is likely to do four hundred thousand more tesla buyers will qualify we'll see how long this takes to pass because i know now that it's on the table many tesla buyers will want to wait until this credit is in place to buy their car it could affect tesla sales short term if we're waiting for this to be passed the funny thing is that tesla sold a half a million cars in 2020 and this year they should sell even more as they open up more factories and grow in popularity those 400 000 cars could be used up in just over a year or even less depending on how much tesla accelerates production this year definitely motivating for buyers to get in when it's there but it'll be gone before we know it and probably won't even be there by the time the cyber truck releases which we'll get into a little more in a bit currently tesla's cheapest car is the standard range plus model 3 and this incentive would technically bring the cost down to 30 990 dollars for that car elon musk was just interviewed on joe rogan's podcast and joe really does a great job getting some insider info out of elon elon reiterated a tweet where he talked about the tesla roadster timeline he said they are finishing the engineering this year we'll start shipping it in 2022 and they will be adding rocket technology to it that's something he has talked about in the past but has left it fairly open-ended in the past he had said things like quote it's going to have an option to have rocket thrusters from spacex and continuing that quote we are going to use ultra high pressure compressed air it's a cold gas thruster the main thruster will be like behind the license plate so for acceleration it drops the license plate and behind the license plate is a rocket thruster it's like full on james bond the craziest part of this new interview was that elon talked about the spacex package for the roadster and said quote i want it to hover i'm trying to figure out how to make this thing hover without you know killing people i thought maybe we could make it hover but not too high so maybe it could hover like a meter above the ground or something so if you plummet you blow out the suspension but you're not going to die maybe i don't know six feet if we put a height limit on it it will probably be fine when joe asked if it could travel when suspended in midair elon said yeah and that it could travel fast but be time limited since it would essentially be sitting on top of an ultra high pressure air bubble what i mean i know this is elon expressing his ideas and what he would love to do but the fact that he is even talking about it this much in detail means that he has given a great deal of thought to a hovering roadster currently the roadster specs have almost been matched by the model s plaid that tesla is releasing soon their website says march for the model s plaid but elon said it will be shipping this month on the podcast so it could be coming even sooner than previously mentioned we could be seeing a 0 to 60 in 1.99 seconds later this month absolutely insane on top of that he mentioned that the model s plaid 0-60 actually came in at 1.96 seconds in their latest testing up to the normal testing standards it wasn't clear if he was talking about the normal plaid model coming soon or the plaid plus model coming later this year but likely the plaid plus model since it's listed on tesla's website at under 1.99 seconds at the same time though i wouldn't be surprised if they beat all of those specs and he's talking about the plaid model that's coming in the next few weeks with all that said about the model s we can see that tesla is nearly beating the originally announced specs for the roadster when the roadster finally comes in 2022 as elon said it will need some crazy features to make it stand out above the plaid plus model s which is probably where all of these crazy ideas about a hovering roadster come into play my first response to a spacex hovering roadster is to doubt it but this is the guy in charge of companies that are regularly breaking the rules and doing things people would never imagine so who knows 2022 for a hover roadster probably not but even a much worse version of what elon described on that podcast would be incredible he talked about that hover idea a bunch but he also reiterated what he said on jay leno's show stating that at a minimum the spacex version of the roadster will have the ability for the license plate to flip down james bond style and give you three tons of thrust for acceleration on the ground the normal roadster would have two rows of seating but this version would only have two front seats with a pressure vessel and thrusters replacing the back seat again insane but it makes sense for tesla to want to go the extra mile to make this car even more insane than the new plaid model s elon talked in detail about the ability to make a hovering roadster and do so in somewhat of a safe manner but do you think it's truly possible leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts moving on to the cyber truck elon talked some new details about the cyber truck on this podcast confirming some things he had previously talked against first elon reiterated what he said on the q4 earnings call which is that they are hoping for limited production of cyber truck by the end of this year out of their new gigafactory texas and that volume production will take place in 2022 a fun aside is that joe asked if a customer could pick up their cyber truck from the factory in austin and elon said yes especially when it first releases if this is truly an option i imagine tons of cyber truck customers flying out to their new factory to pick up their new cyber truck in person if that's an option i will 100 percent do that when elon showed off the cyber truck to jay leno he said that they would be reducing the dimensions of the cyber truck by about five percent so that it can fit in a standard garage right after that show released however he tweeted about it saying quote reviewed design with franz last night even three percent is too small will be pretty much this size we'll probably do a small tight world truck at some point he also replied to a tweet in january of this year to say quote cybertruck doesn't need a garage so clearly he has been back and forth on this but according to elon on joe rogan's podcast which is his most recent interview the look of the cyber truck is pretty much finalized but they did end up adjusting the dimensions around three percent this is different than his previous tweet but he referenced the fact that in that show with jay leno they went through the boring tunnel and it barely fit for that reason in particular and his future vision of the boring company they made the dimensions a tad smaller for the final version of the cyber truck another interesting part of the podcast that concerned tesla was the possibility of a future tesla van back in 2018 elon tweeted about the possibility of a tesla van saying quote may be interesting to work with mercedes on an electric sprinter that's a great van we will inquire later on the q4 2020 earnings call elon said quote i think tesla is definitely going to make an electric van at some point they talked about that a bit on the podcast and specifically talked about the idea of solar being an option for a tesla van he said that solar is always about surface area so the top of a van is a perfect place for solar to be when it's stationary you could fold awnings out give yourself some shade and triple the amount of solar coverage to give you something like 30 miles of charge a day that doesn't sound like a lot of charge but it can work well when camping and elon said that solar can't really get more efficient than that so normal solar cars are probably not very realistic moving on to model y info we have been waiting for tesla to update the center console in the model y for a while now the model 3 in the us got a new refresh center console a few months ago the model 3 and y in china got the new console but the us has yet to see it on the model y a photo posted on the tesla motors club forum shows a recently built model y and that model wise are finally starting to be built with this updated center console this one was built on february 9th with a vin in the 122 thousands so it's likely that tesla will be shifting to this console very soon i hesitate to say that you are guaranteed to get this new console until tesla actually updates it on their website but it appears they are currently in the process of updating a few different things on the model y i've seen a number of customers take model y deliveries in the united states that came with a heated steering wheel this is still a feature that has not been listed on tesla's website additionally the model y has been delivering with updated headlights and now this updated center console i think that tesla probably updates these features as soon as they can but ultimately doesn't announce them by updating their website until they have cleared all of the inventory and you are absolutely guaranteed to receive these new features when you take delivery right now you're likely to get these three features but soon tesla should be confirming them the one feature they added to the model y in china that we still have yet to see in the us is the hepa filter which enables bio-weapon defense mode and it's possible that this feature could be exclusive to china due to their higher levels of pollution however tesla typically streamlines all of their products and parts sourcing so i'm still hoping for it in the us but we don't have any indications of it actually coming here yet i talked earlier about the cyber truck size and the boring tunnel but we don't really hear much about the boring company these days well there have been some recent updates including a photo that elon musk posted of himself and his kids inside the las vegas boring tunnel currently under construction it looks very awesome and now they are moving forward with a new loop project for a boring tunnel that uses tesla's near los angeles the project is east of los angeles in san bernardino county will cost 85 million dollars and will link the airport to a station in rancho cucamonga quote the ontario airport loop project represents an innovative cost-effective and sustainable approach in meeting the mobility needs of one of the most robust population and economic centers in the united states an interesting aspect about this is that an official talking about this project back in june said that quote the company is working with tesla to develop electric vans that can seat up to 12 people and their luggage enlarging the capacity to 1200 people per day or 10 million plus per year it will be extremely interesting to see what comes of this but elon's companies are all very related we talked about the tesla roadster spacex package and here tesla will be making electric vehicles for the boring tunnel maybe these will end up being modified cyber trucks or model x's but a 12 passenger electric van is something unlike anything tesla has made before we talked earlier about elon's comments regarding a future electric tesla van and these could absolutely be connected it's amazing how much innovating tesla and elon musk are doing and just how much news there is to report throughout the week i'm super excited for the future and to
